EP89 - Reel Love - Katerina Robinson28-year-old Ellie-Lou is Essex-born and bred, with dreams bigger than her beloved dad's struggling chippy, Fish Lips. She's always wanted to be a social media celebrity, but instead spends her days battering cod. Just as the chips seem well and truly down, Ellie-Lou gets her big break: a spot on a new dating reality show, Reel Love, where couples bond over fishing challenges for the chance to win £30,000. For Ellie-Lou, this isn't just about fame—it's about saving Fish Lips from frying in financial ruin. There's just one catch: Ellie-Lou already has a boyfriend, Danny. Once a hopeful professional footballer, Danny's dreams crumbled, leaving him bitter and stuck in a job he loathes. For Danny, Ellie-Lou represents both the love of his life and a reminder of what he'll never achieve. When Ellie-Lou's antics on Reel Love start making waves, Danny hits boiling point. Fueled by jealousy and resentment, he sets out on a mission to sink her chances of winning—and take Fish Lips down with her. From reeling in romance to frying family tensions this is an All-Made-Up Story with plenty of bait, drama, and a splash of Essex charm.AllMadeUp story like you've never heard before. Allison " Reel Love " grew her passion for her coastal community in Avalon NJ. Targeting stripers , black bass, bluefish and flounder . She transitioned to South Florida as she attended the University of Miami where she networked her way in to the sailfish tournament scene and was fortunate enough to be a angler and get mentored by some of the best in the business such as Ray Rosher and the Miss Britt team. Surrounding herself with some of the best captains in South Florida and dedicating herself to the sport of fishing she is now putting bunkers in people faces up in the Juno area. Allison "Reel Love" Stattner came and dropped bombs of knowledge on fishing, harvesting, and the programs she is heavily involved with to help everyone in the fishing world! What started out as fishing with her family in New Jersey, has evolved into a significant passion in south Florida. Along the way, she became heavily involved with FWC's Catch A Florida Memory program and teaches in many clinics. This episode is littered with knowledge of the program, how she fishes, her involvement with the International Women's Fishing Association (IFWA) on the board, and her most recent path with the Ike Jime Federation. Be warned, the Ike Jime portion of the episode does have some graphic descriptions of dispatching a fish. What I thought was a way of proper dispatching, was much more than that. Allison really broke it down in here. In this episode I'm joined by writer Priya Mulji. We talk about how growing up on a diet of Bollywood movies and Rom Coms somewhat skewed our expectations of love and romance. We deconstruct many movie myths such as love at first sight (does that actually exist?), what actually happens on suhaag raaths (the wedding night!), and whether those steamy shower scenes can ever be replicated successfully in real life!

Today on the MiddleMen Talk show we will be discussing "Reel Love", how reality shows and pop culture can have an influence over your relationships. Is your relationship reality or is it being produced and shaped by pop culture? Has reality TV shows affected our empathy and expectations when it comes to relationships? When it comes to reality TV shows like Love and Marriage Huntsville, Love and Hip Hop, or The Real Housewives, are we entitled to an opinion on the relationships on these shows? Are they shaping our opinions when looking at personal relationships with friends and family? How are these opinions formed? Is there an appropriate way to go about expressing your advice or opinions to your friends about their relationships? Did television shows of the 80s and 90s shape our current way we approach and view relationships? Were the relationships on those shows realistically scripted or scripted using an unrealistic view of reality? 516-387-1542 call in to voice your thouhgts

In her first big part after Game of Thrones, our dear Khaleesi gets to unleash her full goofball energy in this Christmas movie where stars as a woman whose life is a bit of a mess. This is one of those movies that got on our radar because our corner of Twitter was buzzing about it as soon as the first trailer came out, and we were trash for it so we knew we'd have to do an episode on it. We asked our friends Sam & Rachel, co-hosts of the podcast Reel Love, to help us sift through our feelings about it.
