Erin and Manasa begin their Percy Jackson podcasting by debriefing the Big Animorphs News, naturally (perchance… a new podcast idea??? Stay tuned). Will there now be explicit Animorphs references in the Disney+ PJO adaptation? Crossover musical episode? Just kidding (unless…). Erin points out that the plot of this book is just like Halloweentown 3, Halloweentown High. The mythics have a hard time fitting in with the demigods. We find some more plot holes. They learn about some mysterious threats plaguing the mythics and Nico. And then… the mythics start to disappear. First Arielle, then Quinoa. Then, Manasa gives us a deep dive on the Empousa, our favorite hot weird-legged woman. PS - there were some funny bloopers edited out this episode. It was a bit of an editing beast to fix. Send us Fan MailCrow fam… we need to talk. We read our very first Jane Austen novel ever: Pride & Prejudice, and we may have some unpopular opinions. Will the fandom (and possibly you, our dear listeners) be upset with us? I guess you'll have to listen on to find out what us two gals had to say about this beloved classic, going in blind, with only ourselves and the crows to guide us. Just kidding! We also brought in a guide to help us through it. Sarah over @sarahsliteraryworld, our go to gal and “phone a friend” mini episode guest helped kick off book two in this classics series with our last bonus episode: “Pride & Prejudice for Dummies.” She goes over the basics like themes, characters, Jane Austen's life, which movie adaptations are best, and any tips and tricks to make a first time read that much easier. So go check that out if, just like us, you feel like you might be missing something. Or a lot of things. Today we rate the book, the 2005 movie adaptation, discuss which we liked better, and discuss if it's possible to respect an author and novel for its groundbreaking work and social commentary while also… possibly not loving it. We talk faves and least faves, tropes, themes, characters, and… what exactly was Jane Austen trying to say through this 1813 satire? And does it translate in 2026? We hope that you enjoy this bonus mini episode, and will join us for our future coverage of book 3 in the series: Little Women by Louisa May Alcott.Don't be shy, subscribe! This week, I start by sharing why First Descents, the nonprofit that helped me rebuild community and trust in my body after cancer, deserves a spot on your end-of-year giving list. And then, because it is Christmas, I diagnose the eyeballs of Charlie Brown, the Grinch, Rudolph, and even Jack Skellington. From aniridia to jaundice to reindeer esotropia, it's a holiday episode only an ophthalmologist could make. Takeaways: The nonprofit that helped young adult cancer survivors, including me, find community, courage, and connection. Why Charlie Brown may actually have a real eye disorder (and why that “lovable loser” label is unfair). The Grinch's alarming scleral icterus and what it says about his liver. Why Rudolph's esotropia would make guiding a sleigh… mildly concerning. How Jack Skellington manages life with bilateral enucleation and why Sally might actually have the healthiest eyes in Halloween Town. It's two IKWYWIT90S firsts - a BRAND-NEW special guest AND our first/(maybe last?) DCOM (Disney Channel Original Movie)! It may also be one of the episodes in which we most equally discuss the good (Grandma's bag, Sophie, the concept of Halloweentown); the bad (the execution of Halloweentown, Marnie and Dylan's teenage-ness); and the ugly (apparently "handsome" Luke). This one's unapologetically for all of our 1998 mortal-kids-wishing-they-were-witches!

Avery sits down with Disney Channel icon Kimberly J. Brown for the coziest kind of nostalgia trip…the kind you can watch with your kids. Kimberly looks back on booking Halloweentown at 13, what made her character Marnie feel brave and real, and why the movie still lives on repeat every October. She shares sweet, funny stories about filming, practical “movie magic” before heavy CGI, and the warmth and wisdom she learned from Debbie Reynolds. They talk growing up in the industry with balance, stepping away for college, and reconnecting years later with her now-husband (and Halloweentown II co-star) Daniel Kountz. Kimberly also gives a peek at her new Hallmark movie Haul Out the Halloween and why it delivers maximum cozy fall vibes. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. If you were making a film and one of your characters was a petulant manbaby who was obsessed with rules, spent half of the film in a costume store pretending to be Gandalf and could only become aroused by enforcing the rules of the local homeowners' association, you'd imagine that character would be the villain, right?Well, welcome to the Hallmark Channel's Haul Out the Halloween, where not only is this character, Jared, not the villain, he is also the romantic lead and deuteragonist, alongside his wife Emily. Emily and Jared live on Evergreen Lane, known as the most festive street in America, on account of how they go all in on Christmas decorations every year. But while they love Christmas, Halloween is banned because Emily got scared by a scarecrow once 25 years ago, and then her grandma died of unrelated causes several weeks later. But with the arrival of new spooky neighbours, played by Marnie and Kalabar Jr. from Halloweentown, the residents of Evergreen Lane decide that it might be ok to put up some plastic pumpkins this year, and still manage to turn it into a stressful ordeal because these people can't do anything right. On this week's exciting episode, the guys delve into a captivating discussion centered around the beloved Halloween classics, Hocus Pocus and Halloweentown. They explore the unique themes, characters, and cultural impact of both films, highlighting how each has carved out a special place in the hearts of audiences over the years. The conversation takes a nostalgic turn as Cody shares with Joe the recent addition of Something Wicked This Way Comes to Disney+, a film that many remember as a chilling yet fascinating tale from their childhood. He reflects on the stark contrast between the scariness of children's movies from their youth and the more sanitized versions available today, sparking a debate about how the portrayal of fear and adventure has evolved in family-friendly cinema. Cody also recounts an exciting personal experience, revealing how he and his partner Paige recently won a massive 12-foot-tall skeleton in a local contest. This impressive decoration not only fulfills one of Paige's long-held dreams but also adds a thrilling touch to their Halloween festivities. The guys discuss the joy of decorating for the season and the fun that comes with embracing the spooky spirit of Halloween, sharing tips and ideas for creating the perfect atmosphere. In another segment, Joe shares his recent culinary adventure with his family during a trip to Wickenburg, where they visited Capital Farms Meats & Provisions. He describes the delightful experience of exploring the local food scene, sampling various gourmet meats, and discovering unique provisions that reflect the region's rich culinary heritage. The conversation flows as they discuss the importance of family bonding over food and how such adventures can create lasting memories. Finally, Cody brings up some intriguing news regarding the prolific author Stephen King, revealing that he is currently working on two new novels. He discusses the significance of this announcement, especially in light of King's decision to take a break afterward to spend quality time with his family while he is still in good health. This leads to a thoughtful conversation about the balance between creative pursuits and personal life, as well as the impact of King's work on the horror genre and literature as a whole. The episode wraps up with reflections on the importance of storytelling, both in film and literature, and how these narratives shape our understanding of fear, adventure, and personal connections.Official Website: https://www.comesnaturallypodcast.comOfficial Merchandise: https://shop.spreadshirt.com/comes-naturally-podcast/iTunes: http://tinyurl.com/kqkgackFacebook: http://tinyurl.com/myovgm8Tumblr: http://tinyurl.com/m7a6mg9Twitter: @ComesNaturalPodYouTube: http://tiny.cc/5snxpy

Lily King talking on Books, Beach & Beyond (2025)- on love "Love is really the most important thing to us and possibly the thing, the only thing that is going to save us from our other impulses. I am extremely concerned about the state of mind of this country and what we are allowing and what we have voted in and what we are experiencing and, in in some ways, our lack of resistance to it, and our our silence and our complicity. And it all really comes down to love. And if we lose that ability, I don't think AI is going to help us with love, I don't think Instagram is going to help us with love. I feel like all of our habits that are increasing and increasing are pulling us apart even giving us the illusion that its not, but we are, and we have to remember what it is like to love people. In all of those forms. It is the thing that makes us human. And we have to stay human." Lily King A few of my other favorite quotes from Writers & Lovers “When my mother died, I sort of felt her inside me sometimes,' I say. ‘Like I'd swallowed her.' He laughs. ‘Swallowed her.' ‘I still have moments when I feel that, when it feels like she's inside me, and there's no difference between us or that the difference doesn't matter.” ― Lily King, Writers & Lovers “I can tell he lost someone close somehow. You can feel that in people, an openness, or maybe it's an opening that you're talking into. With other people, people who haven't been through something like that, you feel the solid wall. Your words go scattershot off of it.” ― Lily King, Writers & Lovers “When I was visiting her a few years ago she hugged me and said, ‘Tomorrow after you leave I will stand here at this window and remember that yesterday you were right here with me.' And now she's dead and I have that feeling all the time, no matter where I stand.” ― Lily King, Writers & Lovers “I look into my eyes, but they aren't really mine, not the eyes I used to have. They're the eyes of someone very tired and very sad, and once I see them I feel even sadder and then I see that sadness, that compassion, for the sadness in my eyes, and I see the water rising in them. I'm both the sad person and the person wanting to comfort the sad person. And then I feel sad for that person who has so much compassion because she's clearly been through the same thing, too. And the cycle keeps repeating. It's like when you go into a dressing room with a three-paneled mirror and you line them up just right to see the long narrowing hallway of yourselves diminishing into infinity. It feels like that, like I'm sad for an infinite number of my selves.” ― Lily King, Writers & Lovers Note: Some links are listed as Amazon Affiliate Links. On August 27th, Hank received the Walt Disney Legacy Award, which celebrates the legacy of Walt Disney who exhibit three Legacy qualities: Dream, Create, and Inspire. The Walt Disney Legacy Award is given to cast, crew, and Walt Disney Imagineers worldwide who have these qualities. Hank has been a cast member for the last 62 years, starting as a Jungle Cruise Skipper in 1958. If the math doesn't add up on that, it is because Hank left Disneyland for a few years to be a Garden Grove Firefighter, before returning to Disneyland. – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/meet-hank-todays-longest-standing-disney-cast-member/ Fans of the animated windows on Main Street have a new display to enjoy!
