Discover why leading with emotion inspires true transformation in a way data alone never can.1The discussion dives into the galvanizing power of belief and why purpose must be the core driver, not profit, for sustainable business success. Paul's letter to the Colossians confronts a tension we all face: accepting Christ's newness while still reaching back for the old, worn-out ways of living. Like a child who destroys their old jeans and shoes but insists on wearing them anyway, we sometimes cling to what no longer serves us — or worse, what was never meant to save us. "So if you have been raised with the Messiah, seek what is above, where the Messiah is, seated at the right hand of God." — Colossians 3:1The tomb is empty. Jesus isn't going back in — and neither should we.This means putting to death the things that belong to our old nature: not just the obvious sins, but the anger, the deceit, the complacency, and the legalism that whispers, "If I just do enough, God will accept me." None of that has the power to save. Only Jesus does.

People often miss the way Jesus staged his triumphal entry—and the meaning of the event Jesus was re-enacting from a thousand years earlier. In this verse-by-verse, expository sermon on Mark 11:1–10, we uncover the significance of each element of the Triumphal Entry and how it reveals Jesus as the promised Messiah, the true King, and the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy. When the craziness of this world has you worried or upset, this message will help restore your joy. This message explores the deeper meaning behind the colt, the crowd's response, and the prophetic connection to King David. Discover how Jesus presents Himself as the "greater David"—a righteous, powerful, and gentle King who brings salvation. In this episode of Recovery Through Christ, Pastor Jon Alworth explores the theme of spiritual and emotional freedom, emphasizing that "not all chains are visible." While many associate bondage strictly with substance abuse, Alworth broadens the definition to include shame, anger, fear, past trauma, and the "bondage of lies" that keep individuals from their full potential. The message focuses on three primary keys to restoration: The Power of Surrender over Willpower: Pastor Alworth argues that true freedom is not achieved through human grit or "trying harder," but is received by surrendering to Jesus Christ and accepting the guidance of the Holy Spirit. He describes the Holy Spirit as the "helper" who provides the discernment and strength necessary to navigate a modern world filled with ungodly distractions. The Science of Worship: Drawing on the concept of neuroplasticity, Pastor Alworth explains how sinful patterns and addiction physically affect the brain's dendrites. He notes that scientific testing suggests creative activities and, most significantly, worshiping God can help the brain "flower" and heal, restoring a sound mind and the capacity for empathy. Living Out the Freedom: Freedom is a daily walk, not a one-time event. Pastor Alworth encourages listeners to "stay tethered" to Christ by joining community groups, volunteering, and replacing isolation with the light of fellowship. He highlights that while the enemy (Satan) uses deception to convince people they are beyond saving, the truth found in the Bible proves that God uses imperfect, "broken" people—like Paul, Moses, and David—for His greatest works. The program concludes with a powerful reminder of God’s restorative power, with Pastor Jon Alworth sharing his own testimony of being set free at age 53 and having his health, marriage, and career restored through his relationship with Christ. Key Scriptural References Luke 4:18-19Christ’s mission to heal the brokenhearted and set captives free. John 8:32-36Knowing the truth to be "free indeed." 2 Timothy 1:7Trading the spirit of fear for power, love, and a sound mind. Galatians 5:1The call to stand firm in the freedom Christ has provided. We see evidence of God everywhere in the universe. The fundamental physical constants and laws of nature—such as the strength of gravity, the electromagnetic force, the mass of the electron, the cosmological constant, and the strong nuclear force—are tuned with extraordinary precision. If any of these were altered by even a tiny fraction (in many cases, by 1 part in 10^60 or far less), the universe would be radically different: stars and galaxies could not form, atoms would be unstable, or chemistry as we know it (and thus life) would be impossible (https://coldcasechristianity.com) Psalm 19: 1The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork.

So, in a sense, it became a way for people to laugh at the absurdities of society that was being marked by injustice and social change. In the late 20th Century, comedy became a staple of modern society as satire, farce, and stand-up comedy explored different aspects of human behavior and societal norms. If the aforementioned statements seem a bit high falutin', well, they are. Simply put, we all like to laugh at ourselves and the world around us. We know funny when we see and hear it. From early Vaudevillians to Bob Hope to Jerry Seinfeld, we all seem to gravitate toward someone who can bring out the mirth and merriment in us.Tim Hawkins is just that sort of person. Over the past three decades, the beloved comedian has gone from open mic nights at regional comedy clubs to headlining theaters and arenas across the United States with his own special brand of humor. A committed family man, Hawkins, who is known for his hilarious song parodies, has become a YouTube sensation over the years for “songs” like “Cletus Take the Reel” and “Pretty Pink Tractor”. Genuinely funny and values driven, he has a new comedy special debuting this month called “Fist Bump”.I recently sat down with the comedy veteran to discuss how he decides which real-life moments turn into comedy, why music plays such a vital role in his work, and why he didn't pick up a guitar or write a joke during COVID.

Turk's magic seems to have left him, as a plume of black smoke leaves him, and Zechs has a white handprint that has appeared on his own hand where Tumra touched him. Turk appears visibly angry with his former patron, and Galahad tries to assess the group. Shanks is brought back from the brink of death, and he awakes, feigning memory loss, to cut the visible tension. Zechs heals Arguile and directs Arguile towards his brother and mother. The family reunites and comforts each other through their grief, then reconvenes with the party before heading back into the city. The party looks over the area to see if there's anything worth grabbing before heading out and finds several things, including armor that they're unsure is cursed, so Turk holds off on putting it on until they can find something better suited for him. The party decides to head to their lodgings rather than Dorna's home, at least until they can be sure it's safe for them to return. As they return, per their usual routine, the drinks begin to pour, and some seem a bit more tense after the fight than others. After checking in on one another and trying to plan their next moves, the group decides to go out on the town to get some tattoos. Shanks, Turk, Glad, Galahad, Arguile, and even Dorna all join in getting tattoos and blowing off some steam. Later that night, Shanks, Turk, and Zechs all divulge what happened to them while they were out of commission, and they all had wild experiences with gods and patrons, which they are shocked by; this is fairly normal for them. In this episode of Growing eCommerce, Mike Ryan and Chris debunk three persistent myths that are still holding retailers back in 2026. While everyone is distracted by the hype of UCP and Agentic Commerce, many accounts are bleeding efficiency due to outdated structures like the "Heroes & Zombies" matrix and one-dimensional margin buckets. We break down why these old-school tactics create self-fulfilling prophecies of failure and share what sophisticated retailers are doing instead to balance volume, margin, and the new reality of AI-driven search. In this episode, we cover:The "Zero Click" Wake-Up Call: Why the shift to walled gardens means you need to fix your tactical basics now before the ecosystem changes forever.Myth #1: Heroes & Zombies: Why classifying low-volume products as "zombies" is a logical flaw that starves your potential growth engines. We explain the danger of using historical data to doom new products.Myth #2: Margin Buckets: Why segmenting campaigns by gross margin % (e.g., 0-5%, 5-10%) is dangerous. Mike shares data showing how this ignores conversion volume and pricing strategies, leading to "death by optimization."Myth #3: PMax vs. Standard Shopping: It's no longer an either/or decision. We discuss the rise of hybrid setups and why Standard Shopping is actually gaining cost share again.Key Takeaways:Don't rely on single-dimensional data: Grouping products solely by ROAS or Margin % ignores critical context like seasonality, price competitiveness, and absolute profit.Standard Shopping isn't dead: Even Google is now advocating for hybrid use cases, such as using Standard Shopping for query filtering or specific inventory control.+1The "Self-Fulfilling Prophecy": If you put a new product in a "zombie" campaign with low budget because it has no data, it will never get data. You need a multi-dimensional scoring strategy.About Mike RyanBased in Austria and originally from Boston, Mike Ryan is Head of Ecommerce Insights at Smarter Ecommerce (smec). ADVENT WEEK FOUR: LOVEDecember 21 Rev. Allie Utley, PhDThe Origins of Love IncarnateJohn 1:1-18“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Wordwas God.” John 1:1The poetic first verse of the Gospel is something of an origin story. We oftenread this passage on or around Christmas as we celebrate the birth of Jesus:God taking the form of a baby. Christ comes to us, fragile, small, dependent. But the writer of John reminds us that Jesus' life doesn't begin at Christmas;it reaches all the way back to the beginning of the cosmos. His very being iseternally woven together in the very being of God our creator. In advent, we wait for the coming of the Son of God through whom the love ofGod was, is, and will be revealed. That doesn't mean the Hebrew people didn'tknow God's love, or that Jesus is the only way God makes love known. Butone reason I claim Christianity as my faith is that I am moved by this mystery:that God would become human, that God would take on vulnerability, tempta-tion, even suffering. In Christ's coming, God draws close not only to reveal love, but to know ourlives fully. There is no part of you, no part of me, that is hidden from thatknowing love. This knowing can make us feel loved, but it can also make usfeel vulnerable and exposed.Advent is a season of anticipation and preparation. What might it look like toopen ourselves to that love and to allow ourselves to be truly known? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

If you're worried you're behind on year-end fundraising, take a breath; December isn't over. In fact, the most generous days of the year are still ahead. In this episode, I break down the three hidden psychological reasons donors give again before year-end, even if they've already given this month. I go deep into donor momentum, identity and reciprocity, and why “donor fatigue” is one of the biggest myths in our sector. You'll learn how to use progress updates, public-facing goals, segmentation, tailored messaging, and consistent communication to activate second gifts without feeling repetitive or overwhelming. If you've been worried about asking again or feeling late in the game, this episode will give you the clarity, confidence, and data-backed strategy to finish the year strong.Topics:Why December remains the most generous month of the yearThe psychology behind donors giving twice in a short windowHow the Zeigarnik Effect makes donors want to “finish the goal”Why public-facing goals and progress bars dramatically increase conversionsHow donor identity and reciprocity activate second giftsThe myth of monthly donor “offense” and why you should ask them againWhy internal fatigue is misinterpreted as donor fatigueHow staying visible sustains momentum (and silence breaks it)Why December 31 outperforms GivingTuesday nearly 3:1The importance of resending emails to non-openersFor a full list of links and resources mentioned in this episode, click here.Bloomerang is the complete donor, volunteer, and fundraising management solution that helps thousands of nonprofits deliver a better giving experience and create sustainable, thriving organizations. Third Sunday of Advent The Collect: Stir up your power, O Lord, and with great might come among us; and, because we are sorely hindered by our sins, let your bountiful grace and mercy speedily help and deliver us; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen. Old Testament: Isaiah 35:1-10 1The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad, the desert shall rejoice and blossom; like the crocus 2it shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice with joy and singing. The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it, the majesty of Carmel and Sharon. They shall see the glory of the Lord, the majesty of our God. 3Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees. 4Say to those who are of a fearful heart, "Be strong, do not fear! Here is your God. He will come with vengeance, with terrible recompense. He will come and save you." 5Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped; 6then the lame shall leap like a deer, and the tongue of the speechless sing for joy. For waters shall break forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert; 7the burning sand shall become a pool, and the thirsty ground springs of water; the haunt of jackals shall become a swamp, the grass shall become reeds and rushes. 8A highway shall be there, and it shall be called the Holy Way; the unclean shall not travel on it, but it shall be for God's people; no traveler, not even fools, shall go astray. 9No lion shall be there, nor shall any ravenous beast come up on it; they shall not be found there, but the redeemed shall walk there.10And the ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with singing; everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away. Psalm: Psalm 146:4-9  4 Happy are they who have the God of Jacob for their help! *        whose hope is in the Lord their God; 5 Who made heaven and earth, the seas, and all that is in them; *        who keeps his promise for ever; 6 Who gives justice to those who are oppressed, *        and food to those who hunger. 7 The Lord sets the prisoners free;   the Lord opens the eyes of the blind; *        the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down; 8 The Lord loves the righteous;   the Lord cares for the stranger; *        he sustains the orphan and widow,        but frustrates the way of the wicked. 9 The Lord shall reign for ever, *        your God, O Zion, throughout all generations.        Hallelujah! Epistle: James 5:7-10 7Be patient, therefore, beloved, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious crop from the earth, being patient with it until it receives the early and the late rains. 8You also must be patient. Strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near. 9Beloved, do not grumble against one another, so that you may not be judged. See, the Judge is standing at the doors! 10As an example of suffering and patience, beloved, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. Gospel: Matthew 11:2-11 2When John heard in prison what the Messiah was doing, he sent word by his disciples 3and said to him, "Are you the one who is to come, or are we to wait for another?" 4Jesus answered them, "Go and tell John what you hear and see: 5the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have good news brought to them. 6And blessed is anyone who takes no offense at me." 7As they went away, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John: "What did you go out into the wilderness to look at? A reed shaken by the wind? 8What then did you go out to see? Someone dressed in soft robes? Look, those who wear soft robes are in royal palaces. 9What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. 10This is the one about whom it is written, 'See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.' 11Truly I tell you, among those born of women no one has arisen greater than John the Baptist; yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

First Sunday of Advent The Collect: Almighty God, give us grace to cast away the works of darkness, and put on the armor of light, now in the time of this mortal life in which your Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious majesty to judge both the living and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal; through him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Old Testament: Isaiah 2:1-5 1The word that Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. 2In days to come the mountain of the Lord's house shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be raised above the hills; all the nations shall stream to it. 3Many peoples shall come and say, "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths." For out of Zion shall go forth instruction, and the word of the Lordfrom Jerusalem. 4He shall judge between the nations, and shall arbitrate for many peoples; they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. 5O house of Jacob, come, let us walk in the light of the Lord! Psalm: Psalm 122 1 I was glad when they said to me, *       "Let us go to the house of the Lord." 2 Now our feet are standing *        within your gates, O Jerusalem. 3 Jerusalem is built as a city *        that is at unity with itself; 4 To which the tribes go up,   the tribes of the Lord, *        the assembly of Israel,        to praise the Name of the Lord. 5 For there are the thrones of judgment, *        the thrones of the house of David. 6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: *       "May they prosper who love you. 7 Peace be within your walls *        and quietness within your towers. 8 For my brethren and companions' sake, *        I pray for your prosperity. 9 Because of the house of the Lord our God, *        I will seek to do you good." Epistle: Romans 13:11-14 11Besides this, you know what time it is, how it is now the moment for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we became believers; 12the night is far gone, the day is near. Let us then lay aside the works of darkness and put on the armor of light; 13let us live honorably as in the day, not in reveling and drunkenness, not in debauchery and licentiousness, not in quarreling and jealousy. 14Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires. Gospel: Matthew 24:36-44 36"But about that day and hour no one knows, neither the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 37For as the days of Noah were, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 38For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered the ark, 39and they knew nothing until the flood came and swept them all away, so too will be the coming of the Son of Man. 40Then two will be in the field; one will be taken and one will be left. 41Two women will be grinding meal together; one will be taken and one will be left. 42Keep awake therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. 43But understand this: if the owner of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into.44Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an unexpected hour.

While investigating, they witness a bizarre and dangerous natural phenomenon: a herd of huge, prehistoric creatures stampeding toward them. When their Cadillac stalls at the edge of a cliff, things get tense fast — but then they spot it: a lone child among the beasts. This child emits a strange, high-pitched screech that causes the herd to veer away just in time. The moment sends a clear message: this is no ordinary human. The hosts note how chilling and mysterious that first reveal of the “wild child” feels, instantly shifting the tone from danger to wonder. randomhoohaas.flyingomelette.com+1The child passes as more than just a feral kid. Jack and Hannah — especially Hannah — are shaken by the boy's bond with the beasts and the suggestion that he may belong to the land more than to civilization. It raises ethical questions about trust, adaptation, and who really “owns” the Earth's wild creatures. randomhoohaas.flyingomelette.com+1Rescue Mission, Betrayal — and the Poachers' InterestAs Jack continues investigating the mine's problems (a wounded creature stealing food supplies), Hannah sneaks off to try to rescue the boy. She finds him injured, perched on a cliff, under threat from a predatory “zeke.” With resourcefulness, she uses a vine to descend, confronts the danger, and rescues the child — proving that compassion and courage matter in this harsh world. randomhoohaas.flyingomelette.comMeanwhile, Jack sets a trap: luring the wounded creature with crates of fruit, hoping to heal it rather than kill it. His plan works — until members of a poacher gang, led by the ruthless Hammer Terhune, notice the wild child's unique gift: he can communicate with dinosaurs (“slithers”). Hammer realizes how dangerous — and profitable — that gift could be. randomhoohaas.flyingomelette.com+1Hannah insists on bringing the child back to civilization for care, but Jack argues that the boy belongs to the wild. Their clash underscores the show's recurring theme of humanity vs. nature. The tension escalates when poachers burst into the city to hunt the child — and they're more determined than ever to catch him. randomhoohaas.flyingomelette.com+1A Daring Escape and the True Home of the Wild ChildAs danger closes in, the wild child's bond with the dinosaurs comes...

Carl Ruiz Doug BensonSherrod Small 4/1The final year of my radio journey holds a special place in my heart, made even more poignant by the loss of my cherished friends, Carl Ruiz and Vic Henley. Reflecting on that time, I rediscovered the pure passion and exhilaration that drew me to radio in the first place. Amidst the chaos and challenges, we found endless moments of hilarity and camaraderie. Alongside Carl, Vic, and Sherrod Small, we shared unforgettable experiences both on and off the airwaves, our tight-knit bond shining through every episode. That year also marked Carl Ruiz's meteoric rise to stardom, inspiring me to launch the Opie Radio podcast with him. I'm immensely grateful to Erock, Clubsoda Kenny, Paul, and Louis for joining us on this wild ride. Get ready to dive into the rollercoaster of emotions—the highs, the lows, and the laugh-out-loud moments—that defined my last year in radio.

Seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost Old Testament: Habakkuk 1:1-4, 2:1-4 1The oracle that the prophet Habakkuk saw. 2O Lord, how long shall I cry for help, and you will not listen? Or cry to you “Violence!” and you will not save? 3Why do you make me see wrong-doing and look at trouble? Destruction and violence are before me; strife and contention arise. 4So the law becomes slack and justice never prevails. The wicked surround the righteous— therefore judgment comes forth perverted. 1I will stand at my watchpost, and station myself on the rampart; I will keep watch to see what he will say to me, and what he will answer concerning my complaint. 2Then the Lord answered me and said: Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so that a runner may read it. 3For there is still a vision for the appointed time; it speaks of the end, and does not lie. If it seems to tarry, wait for it; it will surely come, it will not delay. 4Look at the proud! Their spirit is not right in them, but the righteous live by their faith. Psalm: Psalm 37:1-10 1 Do not fret yourself because of evildoers; *        do not be jealous of those who do wrong. 2 For they shall soon wither like the grass, *        and like the green grass fade away. 3 Put your trust in the Lord and do good; *        dwell in the land and feed on its riches. 4 Take delight in the Lord, *        and he shall give you your heart's desire. 5 Commit your way to the Lord and put your trust in him, *        and he will bring it to pass. 6 He will make your righteousness as clear as the light *        and your just dealing as the noonday. 7 Be still before the Lord *        and wait patiently for him. 8 Do not fret yourself over the one who prospers, *        the one who succeeds in evil schemes. 9 Refrain from anger, leave rage alone; *        do not fret yourself; it leads only to evil. 10 For evildoers shall be cut off, *        but those who wait upon the Lord shall possess the land. Epistle: 2 Timothy 1:1-14 1Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, for the sake of the promise of life that is in Christ Jesus, 2To Timothy, my beloved child: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.3I am grateful to God—whom I worship with a clear conscience, as my ancestors did—when I remember you constantly in my prayers night and day. 4Recalling your tears, I long to see you so that I may be filled with joy. 5I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that lived first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, lives in you. 6For this reason I remind you to rekindle the gift of God that is within you through the laying on of my hands; 7for God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline.8Do not be ashamed, then, of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner, but join with me in suffering for the gospel, relying on the power of God, 9who saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works but according to his own purpose and grace. This grace was given to us in Christ Jesus before the ages began, 10but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. 11For this gospel I was appointed a herald and an apostle and a teacher, 12and for this reason I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know the one in whom I have put my trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard until that day what I have entrusted to him. 13Hold to the standard of sound teaching that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 14Guard the good treasure entrusted to you, with the help of the Holy Spirit living in us. Gospel: Luke 17:5-10 5The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!” 6The Lord replied, “If you had faith the size of a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it would obey you. 7“Who among you would say to your slave who has just come in from plowing or tending sheep in the field, ‘Come here at once and take your place at the table'? 8Would you not rather say to him, ‘Prepare supper for me, put on your apron and serve me while I eat and drink; later you may eat and drink'? 9Do you thank the slave for doing what was commanded? 10So you also, when you have done all that you were ordered to do, say, ‘We are worthless slaves; we have done only what we ought to have done!'”

This is a recording of a 4 week class Dr. Matt is teaching on the letter of Revelation at The Point (www.gotothepoint.com). What lenses do you read Revelation with? Revelation 1:1The letter of Revelation is the revelation of Jesus Christ, not a revelation of fear and speculation about the the end of the world.Interpretive Assumptions and MistakesAssumption #1: Revelation is primarily about the “end times”.Assumption #2: What Revelation reveals is a chronological roadmap of the future. Assumption #3: Revelation is about us.How to avoid interpretive mistakes…Step 1: Consider the literary contextGenreEpistle (Rev 1:4, 1:11; Rev 2-3)The Bible (and Revelation) was not written to us, but it was written for us. Prophecy (Rev 1:3, Rev 19:10)17% of the time the words “prophecy”, “prophesy”, or “to prophesy” are used, the verses are in the context of a prediction. (Often about judgement events that will come if people don't repent)83% of the time the words “prophecy”, “prophesy”, and “to prophesy” refer to something else besides prediction. Prophecy does 3 things… It reveals: Who God isWhat God desiresWhat God demands from His peopleApocalypse There are 404 verses in Revelation which contain over 800 Old Testament allusions. So, we must understand the Old Testament to interpret Revelation correctly. Apocalyptic genre is like a political cartoon. It is the writing of oppressed people under the foot of the empire. Apocalypses are overtly political and are meant to critique to governments of this world and call God's people to faithful allegiance to the kingdom of God. Step 2: Know the historical context Struggle and Conflict in Revelation: Kingdom of God vs. Kingdom of Satan, Jesus followers vs. unbelieving Jews, Empire vs. The Church, Truth vs. liesTeam Lamb or Team Dragon?Revelation 1Jesus reveals God to us Jesus reveals us to usYou don't just read Revelation, it reads you!Revelation will reveal the God you worship or your cultural assumptions about God. We become like the god(s) we worshipLet Jesus unveil God and His character to us (The Jesus of Revelation shouldn't look different than the Jesus of the gospels or the Sermon on the Mount)7 Churches (Revelation 2-3)Summary:As a letter, Revelation was written to seven real churches, which implies that its message was understandable to its original readers. As an apocalypse, Revelation uses symbolic language to reveal a God's-eye perspective for the encouragement of Christians living in Caesar's empire. And as a prophecy, Revelation warns the churches against idolatry (Rev 2:14–15). This makes sense given how idols and temples peppered the Asian landscape.Revelation encourages Christians to remain faithful in trials (Rev 2:10, 13). It's no wonder that Revelation would include this, as the threat of persecution was constant.Revelation tells the story of how Satan has inspired an evil, beastly kingdom but that one day the Lamb will rescue the world from it (Rev 12–13; 17–22). That such a story is included is not at all surprising given that the message of the idolatrous empire was etched on every official document and ingrained on every temple.Revelation identifies two groups of people who have been marked out as either Lamb people or Beast people (Rev 7; 13–14). This makes perfect sense because, in the first century, there was only one choice: pledge loyalty to either Christ or Caesar.

(Isaiah 34:16) The Bible is the very Word of God. It is God's special revelation of Himself! The more we seek God in the Scriptures the more we come to know Him personally.  (0974250325) ----more----   What is the Bible? What is the Bible? Where did it come from? How can we be sure that it is accurate? Can it be trusted? And we're gonna deal with some of those questions over the next few episodes, and  The Bible's Divine Foundation I'm very excited about this final section in our study on what the Bible says because we've come to know what the Bible says about the word of God, literally what the Bible says about itself. Now, there are lots of external evidences that the Bible is the word of God. We're gonna talk about some of those, but internally, just read the Bible and the power of scripture will bring great conviction and assurance to your heart that indeed this is God's divine revelation. That it is the perfect revelation of our great God. I'm excited about this section, and I've saved it last, not because it's the least, but because, in fact, it lays a foundation for everything that we believe. All of the great truths we've been talking about for the last several weeks are built on the foundation of the word of God. If you don't have an authority to draw from, then it's just my opinion and your opinion. And this lays a foundation for any other question that might come up. Certainly, this study has not been exhaustive on even the subjects we've discussed, and then there are so many questions that arise in the world we live in today. Where do you find the answers? We believe that the Bible is the very word of the living God and that you can trust the word of God because you can trust the God of the word. Where Did the Word "Bible" Come From? Now the term Bible is an interesting term. Where does it come from? It actually comes from a word that means role or book. Now book. We understand role is a reference to the way an ancient civilization that they would write. I remember many years ago being in Cairo, Egypt, and they gave us a demonstration of how they created papyrus paper. These roles that would oftentimes become scrolls. They took reeds that grew along the Nile River and they would cut them into strips, lay them line up upon line at right angles, and then beat them and press them and polish them. And after they have dried and strengthened and bound together, it created a wonderful paper that could be written on. I remember bringing a sample of that back with me. It was just an idea about what an ancient civilization was done. We take so much for granted in our modern era with all the technology we have to convey writing, I. But in the early days, it was a very expensive and laborious process. Much work went into both writing it and then preserving it. The word Bible literally means a role or a book. It is a library of 66 books that all come together to be divine In fact, this is revelation. It's referred to throughout the word of God as scripture or the word of God. The Bible says in Isaiah 34:16, "16  Seek ye out of the book of the Lord, and read:" That's powerful, isn't it? This book that we're studying, this book we're talking about is not just any book. This is not man's book. This is literally the book of the Lord. And did you notice that he gave two action verbs? Two things we should do. He says, first, seek and then read. There is here a process. That's what reading is, but there's also heart in it. That's what seeking is. This is more than just something to read like you'd skim the headlines of the newspaper. No, my friend. This is something to read on a heart level. It's something to read with a great passion to know the God of the Bible.  The Bible as God's Revelation The Bible is the finished revelation of God. It is the place where God reveals his person, his work, and his will. For mankind, it is God's record of who he is. And he said to man, write it down. Now, the first mention of such writing is all the way back atf the Old Testament. In fact, in Exodus 24:4, the Bible says, " 4 And Moses wrote all the words of the Lord," We believe that though men were used as instruments of writing the scriptures. That all scripture is given by inspiration of God. That means it has a divine source. It may come to us through many tributaries. It may come through many human penman, but it has one source, and that is, it comes from God. Peter wrote and said that Holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost, literally as they were born along by the Holy Ghost. In other words, this is a spiritual book because this is a book the Holy Spirit wrote. It is the foundation for everything that we believe. And now I wanna talk to you for just a moment today about the most basic truth about the word of God. And it is this the Bible is God's revelation of himself. The God of the Bible is a God who wants to be known. Is there mystery related to our God? Certainly because there are things we can't fully understand. Comprehend, fathom, we're finite beings. He's an infinite God. And yet how loving and wonderful to know that the God who created the world wanted man to know him. He wanted us to be brought into the knowledge of Him.  General and Special Revelation He began by giving us what we might call general revelation. That's the revelation that everybody on Earth has. It just reveals there is a God. For example, Psalm 19, "1The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. 2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. 3 There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard." What does that mean? It means that even the creation. Cries out. There is a God, the sun, the moon, the stars, the birds that fly through the air all are a testament to the fact that there is an all powerful, all wise, all good God that ma not only made the world, but sustains the world. So the creation testifies. Romans chapter one, alludes to this same principle. As a matter of fact, the Bible says in Romans 1:18, "18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;" In other words, they've been given some truth, but they've not responded the right way to it. He goes on to say in verse 19, "19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:" In other words, God's made it so that all men have some light, and if they follow the light they have, God will give them more light. So many people reject the light that they've been given. As a matter of fact, Romans chapter one says, A great number of these people begin worshiping and serving the creature instead of the creator. They stop shy of the actual source, which is God himself. So there's general revelation that begins with creation. It also includes man's conscience. Every man has a conscience built into him. The very next chapter in Romans, Romans chapter two, verse 15, says, "15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)" So God gives us creation and conscience to reveal the reality of God. But he goes beyond that in scripture and the word of God. He not only gives general revelation, he gives what we might call special revelation because in scripture we have not only the reality of God. We have the message of redemption from God. Only through the word of God can we come to know how we can have a personal relationship with the creator God of the universe. We're born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible by the word of God, which liveth and abid it forever. General Revelation prepares man for special revelation, but the special revelation of scripture is necessary for any man to have a personal relationship with the creator God. And this revelation, of course, is given in the Bible.  Read Your Bible I wanna encourage you today to spend some time just reading your Bible. Seek ye in the book of the Lord and read. Spend some time today reading the Word of God and say to the God of the word, Lord, I want to know you better, because the Bible is the foundation of our faith. Repeating what other people have said about the Bible is not enough. We must know the biblical reason behind what we believe.  Outro and Resources We hope you will visit us at etj.bible to access our Library of Bible teaching resources, including book-by-book studies of scripture.
