Leah Sophrin is a speech language pathologist who works with adults and children in her private practice and as an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Consultant at the VOICE AAC Center in Montpelier, VT. Her private practice supports individuals with diverse needs to (re)claim their voice, create connection between their communication and identity, and cultivate a community of support and encouragement for those with unique or challenging communication needs. Leah's clients include children and adults with autism, down syndrome, individuals who've experienced a brain injury or stroke, and individuals who identify as transgender and are seeking to access a voice that allows for the expression of who they are. Leah is co-host of Reframe Your Brain, a podcast where she, Danielle Kent, and guests delve into re-imagining the field of Speech Language Pathology as more creative, energizing, equitable and sustainable.

In today's world, (and the Pandemic) feeling 'productive' (or rather 'unproductive') might be on your mind. Listen in as I share my redefining of productivity as well as some strategies to feel more productive in the day to day. Some key takeaways: With so many to do's (and a big challenge in keeping track of it all)- keep it realistic, with no more than 3-4 big things each day (and by 'big' mean the have to dos or the quality 3- the things that you need to do to make progress on your business). If we end every day feeling like we barely touched our to do list, we feel frustrated. It's time we talked about the importance of turning off and recharging. As a person, professional, and maybe parent, you MUST learn how to turn off and recharge and do this on a regular basis (you charge your phone every night, right?) This episode discusses 5 key areas: 1) The function of turning off- to PROTECT and PRESERVE your energy. 2) Knowing what turning off looks like- it should recharge your batteries and bring you joy 3) Scheduling off times- and STICKING to it 4) Parent specific strategies and ideas 5) Identifying your triggers and looking honestly at your schedule.
I invited a VERY special guest- my daughter Maddy- to be on the 11th Episode of the Aligned Professional. In a time of pandemics and challenges- I thought a child's voice and thoughts could be incredibly valuable. Here are my main takeaways: 1) Kids really look forward to the small things- something we can DEFINITELY take away. 2) Kids really rely on coregulation to get through the hard stuff- and knowing that parents/caregivers are closeby to support 3) Kids can chase their why just as we can- and it can really help us understand a lot!

This podcast is going to be dedicated towards how we each can bring our areas of alignment and step into being LEADERS in our field. 1) Have you identified your areas of alignment? If not- go back to my 3 day jumpstart 2) Identify your WHY- (Simon Sinek, start with why)- your why should be driving you. WHY is your area of alignment so important to you? 3) Get REALLY clear and niche down on your area of alignment- e.g, Literacy in Autism, Literacy in PreK, etc. 4) Identify WHAT modality you feel is most resourceful- e.g- are you going to create resources, create videos, or ideas? How will you get the word out? 5) Be a guard to the gates of your mind- especially in times like these 6) Stay forward thinking- seek the opportunity. 7) CONNECT with others - meaningfully- every single day.
Leadership in times of Crisis often involves looking closely at what clarity the situation is bringing- among all the chaos around you. A few key strategies are discussed: 1) Paying close attention to what/who IS working, and focusing on these situations/people 2) Paying close attention to what/who is NOT working; and making careful and deliberate decisions about how to proceed 3) Planning by the week; and keeping your people in the loop 4) Being honest about the stake of the business/organization in what you observe/are experiencing
