Sermons from God's word by Tim E. Stevens, evangelist for the Springs Church of Christ in Siloam Springs, Arkansas
We can either follow the "flock" of the world or fly like eagles
Did you know that when we write the check for our contribution, every single line has meaning for us as Christians?! There are so many things for us to consider when we give our offering to God. May we NEVER give without considering the MEANING "when we write that check..."
Did you know that God has given specific instruction for everything we do in regards to the Lord's Supper? He tells us when & how we are to partake of it as well as what it means to partake. If we're going to take it in a pleasing manner, we must find it by turning to His word.
Do you ever feel like your problems and worries are "too small" for God to see or care about?A quick look through His word will show us how God sees and cares about things as large as the universe AS WELL AS the tiniest things He created! Listen to hear some examples!
Around Thanksgiving every year, we typically think about the physical blessings we have. However, as quick look through God's word also gives us many phrases and promises which should also make us thankful.
Did you know that being "a soldier of the cross" is very similar to being a soldier in the military? Take a listen to this week's sermon and see the similarities.
We've built up to this ever-important presidential election, yet there are still as many questions as there are answers. What if our candidate wins? Even more concerning, what if our candidate loses?! What are we to do? How are we to move forward as Christians in a way that is pleasing to God? My hope is that this lesson will be an encouragement and comfort to you during this time!
There are many things the congregations do in order to help their local congregation grow. Unfortunately, some of the methods which are being used today aren't growing the LORD'S church, but rather the PEOPLE'S "church." However, as we'll see in this sermon, the LORD'S church grew tremendously during the first century. It would be good to look at what they were doing and apply those same methods today!
Did you know that there's a difference between worry/anxiety and concern? Did you further know that Christians don't have to worry or have anxiety when we turn to God? We are in a time of our lives where more people are worried & anxious than at any other time I can recall. We've got the Presidential election, the Covid-19 virus, isolation from our friends & brethren, and just a bunch of odd things happening in all of our lives. However, the one CONSTANT the will NEVER change is GOD! We need to remember and utilize the PEACE & COMFORT which come from turning to God!
How do you feel when you sin? Do you shrug it off and go on about your day? Do you justify your sin so you don't feel too badly about it? Or, do you have SHAME for your sin enough to do something about it? We live in a time where so many people seem to have NO SHAME and openly flaunt their sin. This is so sad because our souls are on the line when we have sin. Let's look at what God's word has to say about SIN & SHAME and consider whether or not we have the SHAME we should have for our sin.
What is man and how do we know that He is mindful of us? God views us so much higher than we sometimes view ourselves. As a result, we may not be all that God wants/expects us to be. Let's be reminded of how "mindful" God is of mankind!
Contrary to what you see in the world today, God had a plan and design for the home. The question we've got to ask ourselves is, "Am I fulfilling God's role for me in the home?" Listen to these scriptures and see if there are any ways you can better follow God's plan in your own home!
In the last episode we looked at some GREAT, HAPPY words found in the Gospel message like "forgiveness" & "salvation." However, the same Bible also tells us some of the saddest words and phrases which have been said in life or will be heard on that final day. The great thing is that we get to choose whether or not these SAD words apply to us! Listen and consider how many of the sad words apply in your life.
There are many things which God "commissioned" men to do throughout the Bible. In the Gospels we find what we call "the GREAT commission." My question is, "What's to 'GREAT' about 'the Great Commission' anyway?" A closer look at "the Great Commission" shows us that it contains many "GREAT" things!! Take a listen!
There are somethings in life which we should NEVER FORGET!. Some of them are sad, such as the events of 9/11. Some are warnings that are there for our safety. Others are happy things like the love and kindnesses shown to us. However, the greatest things we should remember are found in God's word. Listen as we look at God's word and discuss the importance of remembering!
In Revelation 2-3, Jesus writes 7 letters to the 7 churches in Asia. In each of these letters, he specifically addresses both the good things they were doing and some things they needed to work on. As we look at these letters, we should be looking at ourselves to see what we can do better as servants of the Lord! Study with me as we look at Jesus' letter to the church in Pergamos!
While in prison, Paul wrote a letter to the brethren in Philippi encouraging them to remain steadfast and keep their minds focused on godly things. In what we call "chapter 4" of his letter he gives specific instructions to help them in their daily walk. On of the things he instructs them in is "Gentleness." It wasn't just a secret gentleness, but a gentleness which was to be "known to all men." As Christians, we too are called to be gentle. Join me as we discuss this vital trait!!
What does the word "successful" mean to you? To many, success is based solely around WORLDLY things like money and careers. However, as you look through the Bible, many people, including Christ Himself, didn't have a lot of money nor career success yet were some of the most truly successful people to ever live. This sermon helps us put some things in perspective about what TRUE SUCCESS is and what we need to do to achieve it!
