How can you lead (and love) a church that is dying? Thom and Sam discuss this listener-submitted question. No church should die, but some will. Some pastors must shepherd congregations on what amounts to spiritual hospice care. It's a difficult calling, but there are some ways to glorify God, even as a church goes through the process of closing. The post Leading (and Loving) a Dying Church appeared first on Church Answers.
Doug Clay, General Superintendent of the General Council of the Assemblies of God, joins the show to discuss the vital role of discipleship in biblical higher education and the broader church community. Drawing from his journey as a third-generation Pentecostal preacher's kid to leading a global denomination, Doug shares how defining moments and the local church shaped his ministry. Jesus follows the same structure when He addresses the churches:RevealReassuranceRebukeRepentRamificationsRewardAs we've been going through the churches we have been picking apart each part of the structure of the churches! What's interesting is in that, sometimes, Jesus DOESN'T stick to the pattern. That's on purpose, because Jesus wants us to pay attention in these moments. This week, Jesus messes with the pattern. He's done it already with the church in Smyrna, and he does it with the church in Sardis, but in the exact opposite way. So have a listen as our pastoral intern Braden Shannon walks us through the church in Sardis! We're glad you're here! Let's get into it :)

Send us a Text Message.Church growth and healthy youth ministries go hand in hand. Unfortunately, student ministry is often looked on as an afterthought by church leadership instead of being a vital part of the church. The truth is, student ministry is not only a key component of the church NOW, but it's the future of your church as well. It's not just "babysitting."In this episode, we uncover the profound impact that youth ministries have on church growth overall. It's essential for senior pastors and church leadership to provide robust support to youth pastors because a thriving youth ministry not only attracts young families but also drives community engagement and long-term church expansion through positive word-of-mouth. Today's engaged students are tomorrow's committed parents and church leaders, and their journey starts now.Are you looking to grow the size and health of your youth ministry? In Revelation 3:1-6, we read the letter from Jesus to the church at Sardis. It is a solemn reminder to us to remain vigilant and active in love and good works, lest we fall under a similar condemnation. The post Sardis: The Dying Church appeared first on Grace Presbyterian Church (PCA).
The church at Sardis appeared to be alive, but the Lord Jesus knew the truth: they were dead. What is the message of Christ to a dying church? In this message, we look at the path of revival for a church that is dying.
What does it take to bring struggling churches back to health? In this episode of the N.C. Baptists Podcast, hear from revitalization ministry leaders about the ways churches can be on mission together to see dying churches transform and flourish. In this episode, Terry Long, N.C. Baptist church health and revitalization coordinator, sits down with Ben McRoy, mobilization pastor of Faith Baptist Church in Youngsville, and Dave Kiehn, lead pastor of Park Baptist Church in Rock Hill, S.C. Together, the three discuss their stories in church revitalization, how to be on mission to bring churches back to health and more.
If you refuse to lead a dying church, this conversation is for you! Paul Nixon has recently revised his best-selling book "I Refuse to Lead a Dying Church" for the new cultural context in which we find ourselves. In this episode, he offers six choices that churches and church leaders need to make in order to thrive in our post-Covid world. They include the following: choosing life over death; choosing community over isolation; choosing fun over drudgery; choosing bold over mild; choosing frontier over fortress; and choosing now rather than later. The book will be available on May 15. You can also host a book party in person or online by contacting Paul at paulnixon@me.com. Learn more at epicentergroup.org.
Realizing how far we have fallen is the first step toward our restoration. Repentance involves a complete change of mind that moves the heart from one direction to another.
On January 21, Dr. Don Solomon brings a message called, The Church Will Never Die, But churches Are Dying – Symptoms of a Dying Church, from Matthew 16:13-18, Acts 1:8, Ephesians 2:14-22. This is the first message in a new series on the American church. Bible study groups are happening at 8:30, 9:30, and 11:00. There is an essential family meeting this Sunday at 5:00 PM to talk about the future of King's Grant, with a guided prayer time 3:45-4:45. This meeting is open to all members, attendees, and even guests.
Many churches are dead or dying. They have a lot of activities and busyness, but are spiritually bankrupt. Even churches with great reputations and programs can be spiritually empty and not know it. The church at Sardis is an example of a church with a reputation but they were dead on the inside, useless in God's service. Still there were a few faithful that Jesus encourages the church to build upon. The reward for overcomers of not having one's name removed from the Book of Life is misunderstood by some. We will explore its meaning. We can learn how to stay alive, vibrant, and useful to the Lord.
Mark Clifton is joined by Dan Hurst and Mark Hallock to discuss 5 ways to deal with the pain of a dying church. Get them to turn that pain into a greater passion for prayer. What are the four things we need to remember in evangelism?
In this week's conversation between Dr. James Emery White and co-host Alexis Drye, they discuss a very difficult topic: when, how, and who decides whether to close a church? It doesn't matter if it's a church that's been around for decades, or a church plant only a couple years into their journey, it's never an easy decision to grapple with. But between the great resignation of pastors, the widespread denominational decline and the rapid closing of churches across the country, it's a decision that many churches are having to face. Episode Links If you're new to the podcast, you may want to check out some past episodes where the conversation has touched on some of the background issues that led to today's discussion. These are: CCP4: On Pastors and Moral Failings, CCP15: On Denominational Decline, and CCP30: On Quiet Quitting and the Church. As Dr. White said during the conversation, the heart of the people making up the church has much to do with whether the decision should be made to save a dying church. Two blogs that he wrote illustrate what it looks like to have a church community who are all-in - “Anything for the Mission” - versus one where they're completely turned inward - “Our Spiritual Pandemic of Narcissism.” Many listeners may be interested in finding out more about the decision that Mecklenburg Community Church made to close three of its Charlotte-area campuses in order to make a more strategic missional investment in its Online Campus. To read all about that story and more be sure to check out Dr. White's latest book Hybrid Church: Rethinking the Church for a Post-Christian Digital Age. At the end of today's conversation, Dr. White mentioned a blog that is released annually by the Church & Culture team that serves as an encouragement to pastors who may be struggling with a church that is either dying or failing to thrive. You can read the blog “The Monday After Easter” here. I will be using an article that Mark Clifton wrote about the traits of a dying church. I will look at them concerning the church, but also show how they can apply to the Christian life.

Harry and Meghan's goal in their new Netflix series was “to speak their truth and defend themselves against how they have been represented in the tabloid press.” By contrast, the royal family told CNN that they will not be commenting on the series but will continue with business as usual. Shownotes:According to a Gallup poll released in March of 2021, less than half of Americans belong to a church, mosque, or synagogue. The politicization of evangelical Christianity has resulted in utter disillusionment, specifically among young Christians who were once eagerly committed to the ideals of the faith. Christians and non-Christians alike are longing for truth and openness in conversation within the church, as well as a sense of connection rooted in hope, grace, and love.In this episode, Chris and Eddie are joined by Dr. Russell Moore, the President of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention. Moore's recent article “Losing Our Religion” addresses the ways many churches do not seem to believe what they teach and the reasons many have chosen to disaffiliate from the church. Moore speaks of the ways in which he was disillusioned as a fifteen year old by Bible Belt Christianity, his journey back through fear to a genuine faith, and his courage to stand for mercy and justice in the public square. Throughout this conversation and in his work, Moore poses a hopeful vision for the future of the church rooted in the promises of Jesus rather than cultural agendas.Resources:Follow Russell Moore on the web:https://www.russellmoore.com Read Russell Moore's article “Losing Our Religion” hereCheck out Russell Moore's books here:https://www.russellmoore.com/books/ Follow Russell Moore on social media:https://www.facebook.com/russellmoore https://twitter.com/drmoore https://www.instagram.com/russellmoore/
