As America approaches the 25th anniversary of September 11, retired NYPD Detective Sergeant Mike Codella joins Tudor Dixon to share his extraordinary firsthand account of surviving the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. Codella was off duty when the first plane struck, but after realizing America was under attack, he raced to Lower Manhattan and ran into the South Tower to help evacuate people. Moments later, the building began to collapse around him. Codella recalls being thrown by the force of the collapse, waking up surrounded by complete darkness and silence, and eventually finding his way to safety. He also remembers returning home that night to discover his family believed he had died at Ground Zero—and reflects on the remarkable unity, courage, and patriotism Americans showed in the days after 9/11. Billy was a 21 year veteran of the FDNY, and 28 year active member and former Chief of Dept- Islip Volunteer Dept. He succumbed to his injuries after a fall preparing for a training exercise in Rescue 2. He spent 20 years in L133 in South Jamaica. Kristina started the Billy Moon Foundation after being asked to speak at the rock. She realized that people believe in organ donation, but not enough are really talking about it. Now, not only do they speak and advocate around the country, but provide financial assistance to organ donor and recipient families for things like food, travel, lodging, even medication. Kristina donated Billy's organs and saved 5 lives- 2 retired members of the dept. One had 9/11 lung disease. ""Organ donation was the light in my darkest hours. Knowing that my husband would live on, even in his death, provided me a sense of peace through our family's tragedy.
