Seth K Hughes is a photographer, filmmaker, and adventurer based out of his Airstream, yep, another nomad. Seth has been a friend of mine for several years now and he is such an awesome creative. We talk about Seth's path to where he is now, going to school for photography, and finding himself in a commercial photography 9-5 that sucked the life out of him. And finally how he planned his transition to being a nomad. This one is filled to the brim with useful information on navigating the freelance photography industry, the advantages to getting your drone pilots license, and what to expect as a traveling freelancer. I love Seth and there is no doubt in my mind that you will too!Links:Seth K Hughes on Instagram | Seth K Hughes on Twitter | sethkhughes.comTony Northrup Part 107 Study Guide for Drone Pilots | The War of Art book | Remote Pilot AppBryan on Instagram | Bryan on TwitterFor the latest updates on the show, follow We The Creators on instagram!

Luke Beard is a product designer, photographer, and creative director for Exposure, a platform for photographers and visual storytellers. Luke has an awesome story about finding photography and utilizing it as a creative outlet apart from his work in the software design world which in his words "is never finished". He never set out to be an entrepreneur but has found himself in this position and from my perspective is absolutely killing it. It was an absolute awesome chat with someone that has an amazing brain for tech, business, and creativity. Links:Luke Beard on Instagram | Luke Beard on Twitter | Luke's Site | Luke's old site@Junebugkim on instagram | producthunt.comBryan on Instagram | Bryan on TwitterFor the latest updates on the show, follow We The Creators on instagram!

The strategy of design, working for a distributed company, & IR photography w/ Jeff Golenski

Jeff Golenski is a UX designer & project lead at Automattic (makers of WordPress.com, Tumblr, Jetpack, WooCommerce and more). It is a fully distributed company (which means no centralized office) which in and of itself could have easily been the entire episode. I start off the show talking about my forays into the world of medium format film photography and where I see myself headed on that front. Jeff and I didn't know each other at all before we chatted on this episode. But we talk about a lot of different things; from design and what Jeff does from day to day, to IR photography, astrophotography, travel and the importance of subjecting yourself to other cultures. He was super cool and easy to talk to and my favorite kind of podcast guest.Links:Jeff Golenski on Instagram | Jeff Golenski on Twitter | Jeff's Blog | designtactician.comCreating a Photograph vs. Taking a PhotographBryan on Instagram | Bryan on TwitterFor the latest updates on the show, follow We The Creators on instagram!

Transitioning into a new life, minimalism, and the future of cameras & tech with David Imel

David Imel is a tech journalist and photographer currently living in New York City. He and I linked up during my last trip to NYC and we ended up having a conversation that SHOULD have been recorded for a podcast, but neither of us were really thinking about it. What I love about David is that he has both feet in the world of technology and phones, but he is also a photography nerd. So getting to pick his brain about the independent worlds of Google, Apple, and the traditional photography industry as I see it was a real treat. We talk tech, minimalism, computational photography and what that means to the market, as well as David making the recent transition from a nomadic lifestyle for the past 2 years to having a place to call home in NYC. This episode is packed with goodies and I hope you dig it!Links:David Imel on Instagram | David Imel on Twitter | davidimel.comUsing Fujifilm for Tech JournalismBryan on Instagram | Bryan on TwitterFor the latest updates on the show, follow We The Creators on instagram!

Collaboration, filmmaking, & transitioning to full time freelance with Corey Boland

Corey Boland is a Director, Producer, Wedding Filmmaker, and Photographer in Detroit, MI. I've known Corey for about 3 years now and have seen firsthand his transition from having a full-time job as physical therapist and doing his creative stuff on the side, to being a full-time creative for the past 6 months. We chat as always about the importance of community, but Corey adds a unique spin to the conversation in that his work mostly involves collaborating with other creatives, something that I am not good at. Spoiler alert: he convinces me how beneficial that it can be. This might be the first episode that involves some Fujifilm talk, because well, they rule and I would be saying that even if I weren't an ambassador. All in all, I think there are SO many takeaways from this episode, Corey is a super intelligent and well-spoken dude that even manages to make me sound like I know what I'm talking about. All in favorite of me attempting to poach him to become my permanent co-host, say "I".Links:Corey Boland on Instagram | Real Weddings David Imel Bryan on Instagram | Bryan on TwitterFor the latest updates on the show, follow We The Creators on instagram!

Ryan Dyar is a full-time landscape photographer and instructor who in his own words is "a chubby man-child from the Seattle, Wa area who points cameras at stuff." We chat about a lot of things, like what it really means to be a full time landscape photographer (hint: it's not as glamorous as "influencers" make it seem), how Ryan got his start in the industry, as well as how he found his way to becoming  (in my words, not his) one of the more prolific post-processors of the digital era, and how awesome it is to be in community with other photographers who share your interests. All that and Ryan tells a great story about how he almost got stranded in the Alvord Desert, if you don't like this episode, well, you probably just suck.Links:Ryan Dyar on Instagram | Ryan Dyar on Flickr | Ryan Dyar on 500px | RyanDyar.comMarc Adamus | Albert Bierstadt | Chip PhillipsDesert Story ShotBryan on Instagram | Bryan on TwitterFor the latest updates on the show, follow We The Creators on instagram!

The ups & downs of travel photography w/Kirsten Alana

Kirsten Alana is a photographer, world traveler, sometimes blogger, and influencer based in Los Angeles, California. I have followed her work for a few years now and was really excited to get to sit down and really pick her brain. She is a super down to earth creative that would much rather give away her popularity if she could continue on her career path without it, which says an awful lot about her. We talk about why it's ok to just be exactly who you are, how frustrating it is to live in a society that values fame over talent, how to find the "soul" of a city you are visiting, why Bryan hates setting goals, and why Ansel Adams is "the shit". I know, it's a wide-arching conversation, but it was an amazing one to have. Ilitch Peters is a freelance designer and Photographer living in New York City. His creative pursuits are directly linked to his roots on instagram and the community that he built around him. This conversation goes a lot of interesting places, from his history as an artist, to quitting his day job to become a full time freelancer. Bryan discusses why he’s spending more time on twitter than instagram anymore, and how he feels we can maintain a healthy relationship with social media in 2019. The big takeaway here is that social media companies are busy pushing interaction, but we need more connection with each other above all.Links:Ilitch Peters on Instagram | Ilitch Peters on Twitter@monodelespacio | @jacobsantiagoBryan on Instagram | Bryan on TwitterFor the latest updates on the show, follow We The Creators on instagram!

Reuben Wu is a visual artist and music producer. He is also a co-founder of the band Ladytron. Reuben is known for pushing the limits of landscape photography, revealing unseen and hidden elements by incorporating artificial light sources via drone into his scenes. In this interview we touched on a lot of interesting and illuminating topics like where the idea for drone lighting came from, how being a musician initially helped to push his photo career forward, as well as details on his recent trip to Chile to shoot the solar eclipse. If there is anything to be learned from someone who is operating at such a high level, it’s that even though he puts in the time and effort, he is still coming from a place of true passion and exploration, and that is an area where we are all going to have crossover.Links:Reuben on Instagram | Reuben on TwitterLadytron | Lux Noctis ProjectBryan on Instagram | Bryan on TwitterFor the latest updates on the show, follow We The Creators on instagram!
