Welcome to Episode 68 of This Is Not Happening, an Album of the Month podcast. In Part 1, we do a deep drive review of our Album of the Month. This month Guy brings a Robyn's latest release 'Sexisitential'. In Part 2, we play Spin It or Bin It, we pick a theme and all pick songs that represent that theme. This month, the theme is 'Sad Bangers'. ------ Part 1 | Album of the Month | Robyn | Sexistential ------Robyn is a unique, iconic figure in contemporary music. She's been making and releasing music since 1995, her career spans 4 decades already and she shows no signs of slowing down. Her pop career started when she was 15, she's about to celebrate her 47th birthday, this is insane staying power!Sexistential is her 9th studio album if you count the Body Talk series as full albums? It's only 29 mins long, it doesn't mess about and no track or the album in full overstays it's welcome. There is lots to get into in the discussion, has she still got it? Is she doing new things? Is this still relevant and if so who for? How artists change and what we expect from them as they age?Have a listen, tell us what you think.Listen to the original album here.Watch some of her videos here , particularly the singles from this album.Buy this album or some merch here. And listen to her talk about the album here. ---------------- Part 2 | Spin It or Bin It | Sad Bangers ---------------- Robyn's biggest track is 'Dancing On My Own' is the archetype of a genre that Guy made up 'Sad Bangers'. This is our theme for Spin It or Bin It this month. It's got to be sad, and it's got to bang. Simple (in theory). The task is pick a track that fits the theme, the objective, get more 'spins' than your friends. We each pick four tracks for a 16 track play list . We then each pick select 1 track and ask the simple question 'Spin It Or Bin It'?David chose Destroy Everything You Touch by Ladytron.Joey chose 'Teardrops' by Womack and Womack.Guy chose 'Lovesick' by Friendly Fires.Nolan chose 'Blue Monday' by New Order. What would you have chosen? What's missing from our playlist? We've been writing the blog for years come and have a look - https://thisisnothappening.net/

Ladytron have never followed a conventional path to longevity. That's good, because there isn't one. This band has worked through cycles - creative surges, enforced pauses, patches of momentum, a hiatus, and reinvention. The unglamorous realities of sustaining a working band across decades. Daniel Hunt has been through these cycles a few times and knows how to press reset. “Every record has its own story,” he says, adding, with understatement, that “every record has to involve someone having a breakdown.” Generally true, except not this time around. The Art of Longevity Season 13 is powered by Bang & Olufsen. The book of the podcast, Riding the Rollercoaster, is now available. Fighters, do you want to get crazy? Because this month marks 15 years of Christina Aguilera's "Bionic" era kicking off with the club banger 'Not Myself Tonight'. The Old Xtina of "Back To Basics" was gone and she's feeling brand new, embracing a futuristic and experimental electronic-pop chapter. 2010 was an epic year for our Caggie Aggie, not only was the new mum back stronger and sexier than ever with a new album but she's also making her film lead role debut with "Burlesque" (Has anybody looked up the air rights?) Joel and David pick things up in 2008 where Our Cagz was starting her new musical journey with the single for her Greatest Hits, 'Keeps Gettin Better'. From there begins the two-year voyage into "Bionic" with an eclectic, "crotch-stirringly exciting cast of collaborators" * that include Sia, Nicki Minaj, M.I.A., Peaches, Le Tigre, Ladytron, Santigold, Linda Perry, Tricky Stewart (Beyoncé, Mariah), Ester Dean (Rihanna), Polow Da Don (Ciara, Fergie), Claude Kelly (Kelly Clarkson, Jessie J) and more. From sex positive bangers like 'Woohoo' to strutting anthems like 'Prima Donna', 'Glam' and 'Vanity', through to left-field electronic-pop experiments ('Elastic Love', 'My Girls') and soaring ballads ('You Lost Me', 'Lift Me Up') - this album is definitely Caggie's most ambitious body of work. So let's get glam and hop in our electronic, supersonic rocket set for the year 2010 and make it pop-pop-pop! * = paraphrased from a Digital Spy review by Nick (Live Laugh) Levine Follow Right Back At Ya! https://www.instagram.com/rightbackpod/ https://twitter.com/rightbackpod https://www.facebook.com/rightbackpod Follow Joel https://www.instagram.com/dr_joelb/ https://twitter.com/DR_JoelB Follow David https://www.instagram.com/lovelimmy/ https://twitter.com/lovelimmy Email us rightbackpod@gmail.com
On y découvre "It's A Mirror", sensible et agoraphobe. La reprise du jour vient de Franz Ferdinand, qui s'approprie "All My Friends" de LCD Soundsystem. Côté live, Aerosmith brille avec "Dream On" enregistré à Boston. Les classiques de The Who, The Specials, ou encore Pearl Jam et The Strokes ponctuent cette soirée riche, conclue avec Ladytron et leur "Playgirl". Brace yourself for an enthralling encounter with Reuben Wu, the genius behind Ladytron's melodies and a photographer whose work has enamored both Apple and National Geographic. His pieces grace the hallowed walls of the Guggenheim Museum and MoMA, solidifying his stance in the art world. In our latest episode, Reuben recounts the tribulations of capturing Chicago's unforgiving winter through his lens. The bone-chilling temperatures that test the limits of both man and camera equipment are not for the faint-hearted, yet Reuben's persistence yields stunning visual poetry. The discussion veers into the digital art realm as Reuben shares his initial trepidation and subsequent embrace of NFTs, with insights on the transformative potential they hold for artists. Our candid conversation with Reuben takes us on a winding road through his illustrious two-decade photography journey. We uncover the pivotal experiences and fortuitous meetings that have chiseled his distinctive artistic vision. With a dash of humor, we also delve into the quirks of life, from hypothetical animal alter egos to gastronomic revelations in new locales. The chat isn't complete without Reuben's take on the critical role of portfolio reviews and the exciting, yet uncharted, territories of NFTs for creatives. Listeners seeking insider knowledge on thriving in the photography landscape will find Reuben's anecdotes and advice both enlightening and inspirational.Navigating the ebb and flow of family life and a demanding creative career is no simple feat, particularly from the confines of a home studio. The Midwest's dynamic vistas serve as a picturesque backdrop to our discussion on achieving that elusive work-life equilibrium. Reuben and I share our strategies—and struggles—with maintaining focus amidst digital distractions, the importance of scheduling (though sticking to it is another story), and the art of juggling parental duties with professional endeavors. For any creative professional seeking solace in shared experiences or tips on managing the chaos, this heart-to-heart might just be the companion you need. As we bid farewell, Reuben and I reflect on the rich exchange of ideas and look forward to our paths crossing again in the vibrant tapestry of the creative world.Links Mentioned in Today's Episode:Reuben Wu on TwitterReuben Wu WebsiteReuben Wu on InstagramReuben Wu on LinktreeNorCal and Shill on TwitterSupport the showSupport the show

Indiecast would not have a podcast if not for our listeners. So Indiecast like to make sure that they are included in the discourse in each episode via our Mailbag segment. And in this episode, Steve and Ian go even deeper into the bag (26:57).Listeners did not disappoint. They learned, for instance, that one popular indie rock band apparently does hot yoga (27:27)! They also delved into the prospects for a TV On The Radio revival (40:23), the best music message boards in which to lurk, and what contemporary artists will still be making great music in their 80s, like John Cale with the recent Mercy (31:07).Before the Mailbag, they bantered about the recent album by Lil Yachty, Let's Start Here, and the history of rappers engaging with psychedelic rock (:24). Is it possible that the only genre that matters for listeners ages 16 to 24 is "music that sounds good when you are on drugs"? After that they parsed the latest class of nominees for the Rock 'n' Roll Hall Of Fame, which looks especially loaded this year (10:50). (Kate Bush seems like a lock, while Steve is hoping that Warren Zevon can sneak in the back door of the Rock Hall.) Finally, they pay tribute to the late great Tom Verlaine of Television, who passed away this week at the age of 73.In Recommendation Corner (56:09), Ian reps for the latest Ladytron record, Time's Arrow, while Steve enthuses about his favorite album of recent weeks, the jangle rock gem Dead Meat by British band The Tubs.New episodes of Indiecast drop every Friday. Karate, Guns and Tanning - "Enchanter," a 2022 self-released single. Indianapolis-based band Karate, Guns & Tanning formed out of the 15-year friendship of bassist/vocalist Valerie Green and keyboardist/vocalist Paige Shedletsky. “We basically share a brain,” Shedletsky told Post-Punk.com. Together, they craft a dark, riot grrrl-tinged shoegaze, influenced by David Lynch and Hunter S. Thompson. On today's Song of the Day, they evoke the chilly synths of Ladytron with a soaring '80s-style guitar solo in the center. It's a first look at the band's next EP, slated for release this fall.
