-Bill knows from experience from his years coaching special teams all across the country, and we've even seen at Nebraska with kickers like Alex Henery and Brett Maher how just having those guys can breathe confidence into the success of a team -Brian Buschini is a great punter and one we are confident in…how much can that help a team in their belief in what they can do? Look at Iowa with Tory Taylor last year and typical good place kickers. -Omaha Westside's Tristan Alvano might give Timmy Bleekrode a run for his money. Bleekrode was 34/35 on PATs and 9/12 on field goals last year. -Also, Bill's Thrills (sponsored by MidPlains Advisors): Wildcard Wednesday! Well, due to some technical difficulties not associated with bourbon this time, this show has been a few weeks in the making. But here it is: the totally wonderful mess that is Episode 6! Pay no attention to the audio quality of Ken's microphone. In spite of what he might say in the pre-show disclaimer, there is nothing weird or goofy to hear here...at all.We open the show with the festivities surrounding Scott's first wedding anniversary, improving the internet connectivity in Petey (my '02 Peterbilt), discuss the hiring of Trev Alberts, and then dissected the OU-Texas move to the SEC.Our main topic features another Top 5 list; namely our favorite five players we've watched. 5 on offense, and 5 on defense. We finish the show with our Fun Fact Segment, where we talk about our favorite football movies. Our final podcast of the week has hosts Chuck Zodda and Mark Schofield digging into the story of a top specialist prospect who saw himself out of the league within four years. The February 19 Quick Kicks Podcast takes a look at kicker Alex Henery, who starred at Nebraska, but found himself out of the NFL after a disastrous stint with the Detroit Lions in 2014. Topics this show include: -Mark's history with Nebraska football and how he found himself at the game in which Henery made a 58-yard field goal against the University of Colorado (1:46) -Henery's college technique and how he wound up having the NCAA record for field goal accuracy upon his graduation from Nebraska (3:08) -The struggles of the Detroit kickers in the first half of the 2014 season and whether or not the rest of the battery was an issue as well (5:17) -The 52-yard field goal against the New York Jets in the 2014 and the key issue that caused the miss, as well as how there might have been some red flags on earlier misses from Henery (6:40) -The importance of scouting the mental side of the game in specialists, as Henery showed some of the best mechanics of any kicker in the last 20 years, but was unable to produce an extended career at the NFL level due to his inability to master the mental aspects (8:50) -Whether or not an NFL GM should take a chance on Henery as a kicker to bring into training camp as competition, and the types of things that need to be examined during that stint to see if he is capable of being an NFL-caliber kicker at this point in his career (12:18) -Our Twitter Question of the Day, "If you were conducting interviews for a team at the combine, what question would you ask to see if a prospect is ready for the next level?"
