Tune in as filmmaker Joshua R. Pangborn (Sidekick Productions) returns to the podcast for a breakdown of Marvel's Agent Carter, the two-season MCU TV show that premiered in 2015 and follows secret agent Peggy Carter as she embarks on espionage missions with the help of a few allies while wrestling with the daily challenges and misogyny that come with living as a single woman in the 1940s. A disability depiction that's handled respectfully enough for the mid-2010s, a character's military backstory sending Arthur into a rant, and a non-irritating usage of the love triangle trope comprise a few of this episode's talking points. Created by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, Agent Carter stars Hayley Atwell, James D'Arcy, Chad Michael Murray, Enver Gjokaj, Shea Whigham, Dominic Cooper, Bridget Regan, Lyndsy Fonseca, Ralph Brown, Kyle Bornheimer, Lesley Boone, Reggie Austin, Wynn Everett, Kurtwood Smith, Currie Graham, Lotte Verbeek, Ken Marino, and Sarah Bolger. Amanza Smith is an accomplished entertainer, real estate agent, and advocate who has overcome immense personal challenges. Born to a mixed-race family in small-town Indiana, Amanza faced racism and abuse from a young age. Despite these adversities, she pursued her dreams, becoming a cheerleader, model, and reality TV star. Amanza's big break came on the hit show "Deal or No Deal," which led to her joining the prestigious Oppenheim Group and starring on "Selling Sunset." Beyond her professional success, Amanza's most inspiring role is that of a single mother. After her ex-husband's sudden disappearance, she fought tirelessly to provide for her children, relying on government assistance at times. Today, Amanza uses her platform to advocate for victims of abuse, encouraging others to seek help and support. Her ultimate goal is to inspire change through a design-focused TV show and a line of home goods. Amanza's journey is a testament to the power of resilience, creativity, and the pursuit of excellence in the face of adversity.2:18 - Introduction to Amanda Smith's Diverse Career  12:01 - Amanza's Unconventional Family Background18:55 - Experiencing Racism and Physical Abuse as a Child 30:35 - Coping Mechanisms: Gymnastics and Humor36:00 - Transition to Modeling and Acting42:27 - Challenges in Marriage and Financial Struggles 48:15 - Joining the Oppenheimer Group and Selling Sunset54:38 - Ralph Brown's Disappearance and Legal Battles1:00:52 - Advice for Victims of Abuse: Seeking Help and Therapy1:06:35 - Amanza's Goal: Hosting Her Own Design-Focused TV Show1:12:15 - Developing a Line of Home Goods and Furniture Products1:18:35 - Considering Adopting an Older Child in the Future1:24:23 - Amanza's Perspective on Dating in Los Angeles1:30:30 - Dealing with Haters and Social Media Criticism1:36:06 - Amanza's Responsibility as a Successful Black Woman1:42:29 - The Biggest Lesson Amanza Has Learned in Life1:48:13 - Amanza's Number One Personal and Professional Goals1:54:32 - Amanza's Biggest Regret and the Craziest Thing in Her CareerSponsors:Sandee | Bliss: BeachesWant to Connect? Send us a textAs we blast off into our 4th Season here at Fabulous Film and Friends, and with the recent release of Alien Romulus, we thought it only fitting to take a look at ALL the Alien movies, minus the execrable Alien v. Predator films, starting with 1979's Alien directed by Ridley Scott and starring Sigourney Weaver, Tom Skerritt, Harry Dean Stanton, Yaphett Koto, John Hurt, Veronica Cartright and Ian Holm followed by 1986's Aliens, directed by James Cameron and starring Sigourney Weaver again, joined by Michael Biehn, Bill Paxton, Lance Henrickson, Carrie Ann Henn, William Hope, Jeanette Goldstein, Mark Rolston Al Matthews, and Paul Reiser. Then we get 1992's Alien 3 directed by David Fincer, starring Weaver once again, with Charles S. Dutton, Charles Dance, Ralph Brown, Pete Postelwaite, Brian Glover, Holt MccAllany, Lance Henrickson and a veritable slew of bald British day players yelling, "You bloody wanker!" Then there's 1997's Alien Resurrection directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet starring Ms. Weaver, Winona Ryder, Ron Perlman, Dan Hedaya, Brad Dourif, JE Freeman, Kim Flowers Gary Dourdan, Dominique Pinon and Michael Wincott. Then there's a long break in the actual franchise with the aforementioned cash-grabs Alien v. Predator films thrown in the mix and the series starts up again in earnest with 2012's Ridley Scott directed prequel Prometheus starring Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall Green, Sean Harris, Rafe Spall, and Guy Pierce. In 2017 we're treated to Alien Covenant, once again directed by Ridley Scott starring Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Cruddup, Danny McBride, Callie Hernandez, Carmen Ejogo, Guy Pearce, everybody's favorite prankster, Jussie Smollet and blink and you'll miss them cameos by Noomi Rapace and James Franco. Which leads us to 2024's Alien Romulus directed by Fede Alvarez and starring Callie Spaeny, David Jonsson, Isabella Merced, Archie Renaux, Aileen Wu, Spike Fearn and a posthumus Ian Holm. I'm your host Gino Caputi and the guests today are Burton Brown, David Johnson, DMD, Joe Field. With seven movies to cover we're going to get right into it, with one synopsis. Alien movies started off about a crew of space miners serving on the enormous mining vessel the Nostromo who while in cryosleep on their return to Earth with their minerals and ore in tow, are given orders to stop on the planet LV-426 to investigate a distress signal coming from a derelict spacecraft. While investigating the phenomena the crew inadvertently bring an alien on board their vessel. The Alien picks off the crew one by one and it is only warrant officer Ripley who survives by destroying the Nostromo and ultimately shooting the alien out into space. An internet meme sums it up thusly:Alien 1 - A team of miners faces an AlienAliens - A team of marines faces a lot of AliensAlien 3 - A group of convicts faces one AlienAlien Resurrection - A team of pirates face 5 AliensPrometheus - A team of scientists inadvertently create the AlienAlien Covenant - A team of colonists face a a lot of AliensAlien Romulus - A team of babyfaced Gen Z 'ers face  a lot of AliensWhich is Queen of the Hive? Find out!Watch the podcast on Youtube:https://youtu.be/gdZKUp7IM38

While everyone else ran for cover, Chaplain Ralph Brown drove straight into the bombs, machine gunning, and destruction of Japan's first air attack on The Philippines. Brown collected wounded men in his old Pontiac and drove them to the nearby hospital. And then he headed back into the bombing and staffing at least 5 more times, getting wounded men to safety. For those actions, he became the first chaplain in WW2 to receive the Distinguished Service Cross – the military's second highest honor. And that was on Day 1 of the war. He spent the next 4 months driving the roads and trails of Bataan, serving the American troops attempting to hold back the Japanese advance. He then survived the Bataan Death March, almost 3 years at Japan's largest WW2 POW camp, and two friendly-fire ship bombings. This is the incredible, self-sacrificing story of Chaplain Ralph Brown – a man on a mission from God.   For images, maps, and a full list of sources, please visit: https://leftbehindpodcast.com/ralph-brown

Spooky Season rolls on as Not A Bomb tackles one of the most fascinating film productions of all time, 2005's supernatural thriller - Dominion: The Prequel to The Exorcist. After a disastrous screening with the studio, Morgan Creek then went on to retool Dominion. In essence, the studio hired a new director, replaced a big portion of the cast, spent $50 million dollars to reshoot a majority of scenes and eventually released it as Exorcist: The Beginning. The reason for this insanity? The producers and studio heads felt Dominion lacked the scares to carry the Exorcist name. The gang brings back Jose from the Watch/Skip+ podcast to help breakdown Dominion's themes of questioning faith, the evils of man, and moral angst. Don't worry, there are still plenty of jokes about cartoon hyenas and horse teeth as well as Troy mispronouncing a majority of the filmmakers' last names. This episode sounds intellectual, but it maintains the same goofiness you've come to expect from the hosts.Timestamps: Intro - (0:53), Production and Development - (13:35), Box Office Results and Critical Response - (24:48), Behind the Camera - (33:34), In Front of the Camera - (55:02), Break - (63:37), Dominion Discussion - (66:00), Is it a Bomb? - (106:45), Exorcist: The Beginning Warning - (111:23), Listener Feedback - (129:33), Outro - (140:54)Dominion: The Prequel to The Exorcist is directed by Paul Shrader and stars Stellan Skarsgard, Gabriel Mann, Clara Bellar, Billy Crawford, and Ralph Brown.Exorcist: The Beginning is directed by Renny Harlin and stars Stellan Skarsgard, James D'Arcy, and Izabella Scorupco. If you want to leave feedback or suggest a movie bomb, please drop us a line at NotABombPod@gmail.com. Time to lighten the mood... kinda. Brendan and Jason take on the pitch-black comedy Withnail and I starring Paul McGann and Richard E. Grant. They talk about how the director shaped Grant's performance (and some of the claims by director Bruce Robinson that Grant wrote off as pure fiction), the production design bringing the film's story and characters to life, the influence this movie had on many future buddy flicks, they debate the film's portrayal of homosexuality and whether it is helped by its basis on a real-life incident and much more.   The guys also draw next week's movie out of a hat! In space, no one can hear the gang scream this week, as they review Alien 3 (1992) directed by David Fincher. This divisive third in the original Alien trilogy is looked down upon by some lovers of the Alien franchise, while others think it could be the best in the series. Tyler, Joseph and Pete dive into the differences between the theatrical cut, and the Assembly Cut, which has more than 40 minutes added to it. With some hard hitting acting from Sigourney Weaver, Charles S. Dutton, Holt McCallany, Danny Webb, Ralph Brown, Brian Glover, and Pete Postlethwaite... this sci fi horror mainstay brings some of the most iconic imagery of the Alien universe, at the very least. What kind of drive gets a man to organize the first-ever powerboat race around the world? Call it crazy or weird, but for Ralph Brown, it’s simply what he is called upon this world to do. A former US Marine, Ralph was consumed by grief over the eight men who died during Operation Eagle Claw in the 80s – a mission he was supposed to be part of. Vowing never to let these brave men’s names be forgotten, Ralph pushed himself to achieve great powerboating feats in honor of these heroes, eventually achieving four world records, including the longest non-stop ocean voyage in a flats boat and the first to cross the Atlantic on a flats boat. In this conversation with Penny Zenker, he recounts some of his fondest memories during his longest voyage. He also shares his plans to continue honoring the Eagle Claw 8, notably CupRoyale, a powerboat race around the world, and the Eagle Claw Award. Listen in for more. Love the show? You'll know him from Withnail and I, Wayne's World two and Alien 3, plenty more besides. Such a unique life he has led and continues to. We get pretty deep and cover a lot of the hedonism of his youth but much more than that. We get the smell of a hard working actor, But enough of my yacking, lets boogie. Amanza Smith may be the new agent at The Oppenheim Group, but is not the new girl to the team. Being best friends with Jason, Brett and Mary for over 18 years, Amanza is the one who introduced Mary to Jason. Their friendship is what drew Amanza to the cast of Selling Sunset. A single mother of two, Amanza has a unique perspective that sets her apart from others. Loyal, kind and strong, she does everything to provide her children with the best lives possible. Amanza’s down-to-earth personality demonstrates that she is authentic and relatable. She was born in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, and grew up in Vincennes, Indiana. Although she had a very humble upbringing, Amanza experienced a difficult childhood. Coming from a blended family, Amanza had an upbringing that was filled with obstacles to overcome, she was often teased for her skin color and hair. She never thought of herself as the “pretty girl,” and as she matured, learned to not take herself too seriously and to turn those struggles into strength. Amanza studied interior design in college and then at age 24, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue her dreams. Her successful modelling and performing career included being a professional cheerleader for the Indianapolis Colts and one of the models on NBC’s Deal or No Deal. She married her now ex-husband, former NFL player Ralph Brown, in 2010. To make ends meet after her divorce, Amanza did everything from cleaning houses to walking dogs to retail and babysitting. Although making money was a struggle, Amanza says that having kids is the highlight of her life so far. Her children are now 9 and 10. Amanza used her passion for her children combined with her love of interior design to do children’s rooms until she made enough contacts to start a small business interior design business, that she has single-handedly grown into AmanZa LLC a now thriving design and furniture business. This year she also accomplished getting her real estate license and becoming an agent, she now works with The Oppenheim Group as a design specialist, staging many of their multi-million dollar properties. One month into filming Selling Sunset, her ex-husband suddenly disappeared, which forced Amanza into fully caring for her children on her own. Dealing with this major emotional life-altering event made everything more stressful on and off camera. Amanza’s favorite part of filming was sharing the experience with her best friend, Mary. As they have been through everything together, it was surreal for them to do the show together. Amanza recently started designing custom furniture and hopes to create her own line of home goods. She aspires to have her own show on a major network based on design and helping others. Amanza enjoys dancing, singing, painting, making DIY crafts and listening to self-help audiobooks. Sure to be a fan favorite Amanza is the lady everyone wants to be best friends with. AfterBuzz TV Host Jane Johnsen (@JaneJohnsen_) sits down with Amanza to learn all about the behind the scenes drama that we didn't see on screen, what it's like to be one of the top real estate agents in the Hollywood Hills, and her plans for the future. Danny Mydlack, our new media consultant, put himself in here by taking the initiative to contact us and make two trips down from Baltimore for gathering footage for our upcoming video "tractor."   Doug Jayne has put himself out there for years by building eight large cattlemarans in Constant Camber, selling some and operating others. The Criterion Collection, the last vestige of truly collectible DVD and Blu-Ray movies in existence. These are well produced, fancy pants editions of important and interesting films for the discerning film lover. We continue our journey through Jim's collection of movies with... Week 18: Withnail and I Spine Number: 119 Director: Bruce Robinson Genre: Comedy Some movies just feel like they were made for you. The characters make a different kind of sense on a certain level, they are just bizarre enough to make complete sense, and the dialogue hits on all cylinders. When you find one of these movies you wonder how you managed to miss it for all of those years because it was clearly made just for you. Withnail and I is such a film. I purchased it sight unseen based off the suggestion of a college friend and just assumed that Clarkson had seen it and had the entire thing memorized. Turns out, he'd never heard of it. So, one Saint Patrick's Day around 11 years ago, we sat down with a large amount of alcohol, Withnail and I, The Long Good Friday, The Boondock Saints, Michael Collins, In The Name of The Father, and The Departed. Yes, it was a lot of movies to watch in one day, but we didn't really have anything else to do, and that beer and whiskey wasn't going to drink itself. So, I got to share this amazing film with someone else who would find it just as oddly captivating as I did. The dialogue is fantastic, the characters are hilarious, and the performances... good GOD! Top to bottom this thing is full of scene stealing performance after scene stealing performance. Richard E. Grant's Withnail dominates every scene he's in, unless Richard Griffiths is on screne (in which case he takes complete ownership), Paul McGann gives an understated performance that just highlights the madness around him, Ralph Brown originating the character he would play again in Wayne's World 2... it's just... well, to quote Danny, "That's politics, man." So check it out with us. If you've never seen it, grab a drink and njoy, if you have seen it, do the same. A good time will be had by all. Next week: Spine number 118: Sullivan's Travels A genuinely wonderful comedy classic. Also, check this out. The Life Masters is now it's own show with its own site and own dedicated feed. Compassionate Capitalist Karen Rands will interview now legendary inventor, entrepreneur, adventurer, visionary, and retired military CEO Ralph Brown. His story of how he did something that had never been done before in order to honor his fallen comrades and bring an innovative product to market to forever change the boating industry is gripping and mezmorizing. Just having completed cross Atlantic voyage in a flat bottom single engine boat that many said couldn't be done, we are delighted to have the opportunity to share his story to our listening audience. It will surely be an inspiration to every entrepreneur, investor, military man and woman, and those who love stories of triumph against all odds. Tune in and spread the word...read more here: http://www.crosstheatlantic.com/ And here is a snippet of Ralph's recent journey.... "As each giant wave broke bashing anything loose out of the boat and slamming a wall of water against my chest with no where to hide, I kept repeating those words out loud; "It Can't Sink, Trust Your Equipment, Don't Panic and Help us Lord, please." I was afraid for the failure of the mission, I was afraid for my life. Ten minutes earlier we were driving in rolling 10 to 12 foot seas. Ten minutes earlier we were looking at lights at a small town on the island, ten minutes earlier there were two fishing trawlers passing nearby. Now we were fighting for our lives as 12 to 15 foot waves were bashing our tiny boat closer and closer to the shoals that we did not see. I was seriously afraid. We had just finished the 560 mile leg from Reykjavk Iceland to the Faroe Islands, with a storm hot on our heals..." What a passionate entrepreneur will do to prove they have the Right Stuff!
