They famously warred with Britpop rivals Blur, and the Brothers Gallagher feuded with each other in public and came to blows numerous times behind closed doors. The success of their massively popular second album skyrocketed the band to international fame and brought unwanted, intense pressure from the British tabloids, causing frontman Liam Gallagher to slide into a drunken stupor that would threaten to break up the band and distract Noel Gallagher from doing what he did best: write songs. The biggest gigs of 2025 are almost here as thousands of fans look set to descend on Croke Park to see Oasis.It will be the first time Noel & Liam Gallagher play Ireland since they headlined Slane Castle in 2009, and excitement has been building all summer.Today FM's news and sport anchors, Ben Finnegan and Stephen Doyle, are two Oasis superfans and will be attending the concerts across the weekend.They spoke to Daniel McConnell on The Last Word about what they're expecting from the performances.

For 15 years, (and up until recently) Oasis were officially not a band. In 2009, Noel quit just hours before they were set to play a festival in France. But back then, everyone just assumed Oasis would return the next week, hatchet buried, ready to pick up where they left off; If there’s one thing Oasis were known for it was regularly being on the brink of imploding. From the very start, Liam and Noel were always squabbling over something. Very public spats were just something they did. Fast forward to 2025, Oasis are back playing live shows again, heading across the world on a reunion tour that includes two shows in Toronto. Of course, Oasis were known for writing big rock anthems in the ‘90s and 2000s - but there is one song of theirs that was bigger than the rest: A ballad that has become customary to learn for everyone that owns an acoustic guitar. I’m talking about “Wonderwall,” a song Noel Gallagher wrote about his imaginary friend. It blew up lives and it destroyed things. What about the mental consequences? How do two unknowns handle global fame, opprobrium, celebrity attention and notoriety all at once?
