American Potential
When Transparency Gets Spooky: The Kentucky Bill That Almost Hid Government Secrets

American Potential

As Halloween approaches, American Potential takes a look at a different kind of fright—the kind that comes from government trying to hide in the dark. Host David From is joined by Liam Gallagher, Legislative Director for Americans for Prosperity–Kentucky, to unpack a chilling near-miss in the state legislature. What started as a seemingly harmless bill to promote transparency nearly turned into a full-blown exemption shielding the governor, cabinet officials, and school boards from the state's Open Records Act. Liam recounts how, with only hours to spare, he and a bipartisan coalition—including the Kentucky Press Association—exposed the hidden language and stopped the bill before it could erase public accountability. From AI-gone-wrong in a local school district to officials using private phones to dodge open records, this episode shines a light on why transparency isn't just good policy—it's democracy's strongest disinfectant.

Iconic photos by Jill Furmanovsky chart the dramatic career of Oasis-on stage, backstage, in the studio, and at play-paired with exclusive commentary by Noel Gallagher. Jill Furmanovsky's unparalleled work with Oasis stretches from the end of 1994-when the band's debut album, Definitely Maybe, became the fastest-selling debut album in British chart history at the time-to their last tense shows in 2009, which culminated in their split. Jill was given unprecedented access to countless worldwide performances and many recording sessions. In this single, beautiful volume, overseen and edited by Noel Gallagher, award-winner Furmanovsky presents, for the first time, her complete Oasis archive, which she describes as her best body of work, as well as insightful observations taken from notes she made at the time. Organized chronologically, the book depicts more than 500 photographs, contact sheets and sequenced film strips of the band on stage, backstage, on the road, in the studio, and behind the scenes. She captured the drama of the band's lifestyle during the 1990s when, as Jill said, "they were on a comet, hanging on for dear life." The access she was given allowed closeness, and she was able to document the competitive and at times volatile relationship between Noel and Liam Gallagher up to their split in 2009, creating a poignant visual diary that is more than the sum of its parts.Accompanying the images is illuminating commentary by Noel Gallagher, who relates the inside stories of the events pictured in many of the shoots and demonstrates an honest and touching relationship between band and photographer. Three essays by music journalists provide context to the band's story, and an introduction by Jill celebrates the supreme significance of Oasis in her 50+ years photographing musicians. Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

(What's The Story) Morning Glory? - Oasis (1995)  On this week's episode of Totally 80's and 90's Recall, Dave and Rob are rewinding back to 1995 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Oasis' landmark album What's the Story Morning Glory. Track by track, they'll unpack the record that turned the Gallagher brothers from local Manchester heroes into worldwide rock icons. From the swaggering punch of “Roll With It” to the tender emotion of “Wonderwall” and the anthemic rise of “Don't Look Back in Anger,” the guys will revisit the songs that defined Britpop and made Oasis the voice of a generation Of course, no Oasis deep dive is complete without talking about the band's legacy and the Gallagher brothers themselves. Dave and Rob will weigh in on how Morning Glory cemented Oasis' place in rock history, with its blend of stadium-ready choruses, Beatles-inspired melodies, and raw attitude. They'll also highlight the brilliance and madness of Noel and Liam Gallagher—their creative spark, their infamous feuds, and the unpredictable energy that made Oasis larger than life both on and off the stage. And now, with the band reuniting in 2025 for a massive world tour after splitting in 2009, the timing couldn't be better to reflect on just how much Oasis still matters Pandora: https://pandora.app.link/iq8iShjXOLb   Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/totally-80s-and-90s-recall/id1662282694    Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/11dk5TUoLUk4euD1Te1EYG?si=b37496eb6e784408    Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/1960c8f9-158d-43ac-89a6-d868ea1fe077/totally-80s-and-90s-recall    YouTube Podcasts: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLH9lGakNgCDZUkkHMUu88uXYMJu_33Rab&si=xo0EEVJRSwS68mWZ   Playlists:   Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0AtsvIUajFCX2M4LuqaO1E?si=QCJY6QO2Rq6PRCdR_y2EpQ    Apple: https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/oasis-live-2025-setlist/pl.u-e98l3zLhWq6EDx?ls   Contact Us: Website: https://totally80s90srecall.podbean.com/  Email: 80s90srecall@gmail.com LinkTree:https://linktr.ee/80s90srecall

Nach ihrem Durchbruch mit "Definitely Maybe" haben die beiden Brüder und bekannten Streithähne Liam und Noel Gallagher mit ihrer Band Oasis 1995 das Album "(What's The Story) Morning Glory" herausgebracht. On this special London Fashion Week edition of the Glossy Podcast, international reporter Zofia Zwieglinska is joined by editor-in-chief Jill Manoff to break down the shows, shifts and standout moments shaping the season. London has been particularly charged this week, with President Trump's visit, Parliament debating fashion's cultural and economic value, and new BFC head Laura Weir waiving designer fees and boosting international visibility. The London Fashion Week schedule reflects the mix of pressures and possibilities: More fast-fashion names like Zara joined the calendar, bringing visibility but also sustainability concerns. The stalwarts are still showing, including JW Anderson, Simone Rocha and Erdem, which are holding strong among a tough macro environment. And a wave of NEWGEN designers, such as Jenn Lee, The Ouze and Ewusie, are bringing fresh energy. NEWGEN is the British Fashion Council's talent support scheme that gives emerging designers financial backing, mentoring and a platform to show at London Fashion Week. Zofia also shares highlights to come this week in Glossy's coverage, including what is going on at Rixo, Edeline Lee and Patrick McDowell. But at the center of it all is Burberry. Zofia and Jill trace the brand's turbulent recent history — from executive and creative director shifts to pricing resets — and assess Joshua Schulman's “Burberry Forward” strategy (9:00). Luxury analyst Luca Solca from brokerage firm Bernstein joins the episode to weigh in on Burberry's turnaround, stressing the importance of heritage, consistent execution and the brand's ongoing challenge in accessories. We discuss how Burberry's new campaigns — like "Festival Season," featuring Liam Gallagher, and "Back to the City," shot on a red London bus — are reframing the brand. We also talk about how wholesale partners are responding to the brand's Fall 2025 collection and what's next for Burberry, in both the U.K. and the U.S.

Oasis were the biggest band on the planet for a moment. They famously warred with Britpop rivals Blur, and the Brothers Gallagher feuded with each other in public and came to blows numerous times behind closed doors. The success of their massively popular second album skyrocketed the band to international fame and brought unwanted, intense pressure from the British tabloids, causing frontman Liam Gallagher to slide into a drunken stupor that would threaten to break up the band and distract Noel Gallagher from doing what he did best: write songs. All of the dysfunction, humor, hedonism and hooliganism that is Oasis comes to a head in this, the second part of the Oasis saga. This episode was originally published on April 13, 2021. The ripples of last week's Elis James mega-rant are still being felt right across the BBC, and despite vowing to ignore the call to pen John's obituary, Elis has rowed back and done just that. Brace yourself for some emotional heft and candid commentary on John's propensity for darts at university. But John's made of sterner stuff these days and recovered to reveal the sighting of a certain car has left him shocked to his very core. Elis and Dave, on the other hand, don't seem that bothered…Elsewhere there's some classic ‘what would you do with loads of money' chat that somehow leads to a conversation about Liam Gallagher's coat collection, and a geography-based Made Up Game hits the mark with very little knowledge needed of the Falkland / Faroe Islands. We love receiving your emails and WhatsApps and wholeheartedly encourage you to send them in. John welcomes legendary music and pop culture writer, thinker, and theoretician Chuck Klosterman to talk about the runaway success of the Oasis reunion tour and why America is suddenly gaga for the band 30 years after its peak. For those too young to remember the Britpop era or too addled to recall it clearly, Klosterman explains just how huge Oasis was back then; how the Internet and social media conspired to keep the perpetually feuding Noel and Liam Gallagher relevant even after the band broke up in 2009; and why, though the Oasis renaissance is surely being fueled by nostalgia for the 1990s—a decade about which Klosterman wrote the bestselling cultural history “The Nineties”—it's also about something deeper and more ineffable. It has been just over a year since I last chatted with comedian and writer Tadhg Hickey here on the podcast. Tadhg has been a very vocal critic of Israel's war on Gaza and a staunch supporter of Palestine, and his online videos and comedy sketches about the issue have always been popular. But over the past year his profile has grown significantly and, as well as winning new supporters, he has been attracting new critics. Why? Because, as he describes, he has ‘become dangerous'.So I asked Tadhg to join me again here on The Mario Rosenstock Podcast to chat about the crazy year that he has had – from his continued activism and the negative attention it has been attracting, to his trip to Iran and thoughts on how the Irish and the Iranian people share a lot in common, the new satirical tv show that he is making, and lots more.
