Let's clear something up right away: having a mental health condition doesn't automatically put your security clearance on life support. Despite what your buddy's cousin's former coworker swears happened to "a guy he knew," the government isn't out here revoking clearances simply because someone sought therapy, took medication, or admitted they weren't feeling their best. One of the biggest myths in the cleared community is that getting mental health treatment is somehow worse than ignoring a problem and hoping it magically disappears. Spoiler alert: it isn't. Federal adjudicators care far more about judgment, reliability, and trustworthiness than they do about whether you've had a conversation with a therapist. Seeking treatment is often viewed as a sign of good judgment, not a red flag. John Berry and Lindy Kyzer frequently collaborate to demystify complex security clearance and federal employment laws. Kyzer is the Director of Content at ClearanceJobs, while Berry is a founding partner at the security clearance law firm Berry & Berry, PLLC. They talk this week about mental health issues, degenerative brain diseases like Alzheimer's, and other cognitive health matters. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Michael interviews Kevin Dau, pastor for discipleship and counseling at Hespeler Baptist Church in Cambridge, Ontario, and a practicum instructor for Heritage College and Seminary's master's level biblical counseling certificate. Dau contrasts professional counseling with pastoral counseling, where caring becomes more personal and multifaceted because counselees are also part of church life, increasing stress and highlighting human limits. Using Galatians 6:1–3, Exodus 18, and themes from Psalms, they discuss bearing one another's burdens while watching for temptation, pride, and burnout, and the need for accountability, peer support, and sometimes personal counseling for counselors. They emphasize proactive self-care, ordinary means of grace, recognizing stress signals (affect and effectiveness), building a church culture of vulnerability, and regularly asking trusted observers what they see and acting on it.00:00 Podcast intro and guest00:59 Kevin ministry roles02:10 Training counselors at Heritage03:38 Pastoral burdens and stress07:24 Needing care and counseling12:00 Accountability for shepherds18:12 Asking for help early20:34 Stress and means of grace24:55 Galatians warnings and humility26:28 Practical steps and closing

Most podcasters don't fail. They stop, often right when something's starting to click. We talk about that moment in this episode, you know the one, where growth feels slow, nobody's commenting, and doubt wins. But here's the thing: progress is already happening. You just can't see it yet. The PMC cast and crew broke down what kills momentum before it even registers. Unclear expectations. Chasing downloads when you should be watching who keeps coming back. Getting buried in the workload. There's invisible growth happening too. Your skills are sharper than they were last month. Listeners are returning. Relationships are forming quietly behind the scenes. We also covered the practical moves. Focus on small wins. Track impact instead of vanity metrics. Adjust instead of quitting. Maybe this is the part most people never push through.Episode Highlights:[00:51] Show Intro and Co Hosts[02:21] Monday's OWP Pick[03:53] Why Podcasters Quit[07:51] BC Pivot Overwhelm[09:48] Define Success Early[13:09] Set Your Own Rules[16:54] Long Game Foundations[20:12] Overwhelm and Getting Help[22:45] Signs It's Working[28:01] New Start Time Update[29:19] Pivot Before You Quit[32:48] Listener Validation Wins[36:47] Metrics That Motivate[40:21] Seed Mindset Patience[43:22] Networking Shirt Ideas[44:27] Wins Segment Kickoff[48:49] Community Wins Roundup[58:25] Wrap Up Support PlugLinks & Resources: PMC Support Pagehttps://podcastingmorningchat.com/supportThe Podcasting Morning Chat: www.podcastingmorningchat.comWays to Watch or Listen: https://www.podcastingmorningchat.com/joinus/Meet the PMC Cast and Crew:https://podcastingmorningchat.com/peopleJoin The Empowered Podcasting Facebook Group:www.facebook.com/groups/empoweredpodcastingBook A Free Call With Marc: https://calendly.com/ironickmedia/freestrategycallApplication To Submit Your Show For Evaluation: https://podcastingmorningchat.com/evalJoin us every other Monday at 7 AM ET for the Obsession Worthy Podcasts:http://podcastingmorningchat.com/owp/Join us LIVE every weekday morning at 7 am ET (US) on Clubhouse: https://podcastingmorningchat.com/clubhouseEPC3 Speaker Application: https://empoweredpodcasting.com/speakersPowered by iRonickMedia.com and ContentCreatorsAccountant.comSend in your mailbag questions: https://www.podcastingmorningchat.contact/ or marc@ironickmedia.comWant to be a guest on The Podcasting Morning Chat? Send us Fan MailThe job can send you to the hardest places on earth, then expect you to come home and act like nothing followed you back.We talk with Kemmi Sadler, a retired supervisory special agent from the U.S. State Department's Diplomatic Security Service, about what two decades of protective missions, investigations, and overseas tours can do to your inner life. From her early years in local law enforcement to contracting overseas after 9/11 and then serving across posts like Iraq, Afghanistan, El Salvador, Mexico, and Washington, DC, Kemi lays out the real-world stressors that build over time: constant moves, family complications, and the relentless requirement to stay sharp. One story becomes a turning point, opening the door to survivor's guilt and the kind of grief that can linger for years when it never gets fully processed. We also dig into a barrier so many first responders recognize instantly: the fear that counseling could trigger “fitness for duty” questions or jeopardize a security clearance. When your identity is built around being the tough one, asking for help can feel like risking everything. We compare peer support, resilience training, and the idea of routine mental health wellness visits that work like a checkup rather than a crisis response. We close with the shock of retirement and why turning in credentials can feel like losing membership in a world that once gave you status, safety, and a clear sense of self. This one's heavy. We've heard a lot of military stories over the years… but this one stuck with us.Rick served in the U.S. Navy during the late 80s, and during a deployment in the South China Sea, they got a call about a stranded refugee boat. What they found when they got there… was nothing like they expected. There were bodies everywhere. Survivors that couldn't even stand. People so far gone they had to be carried onto the ship. And the part that really messes with you… what those people had to do to stay alive. It's the kind of story you don't forget. But what hit us just as hard wasn't just what happened out there. It's what came after. We talk about the transition out of the military, losing that sense of purpose, and how moments like this don't just disappear when you come home.A lot of guys carry this stuff for years… and never say a word.

Ever needed extra time, extra support, or a different way of doing something and immediately thought, “Wait… is this cheating?”Yeah. That feeling is way more common than you think. This week, David and Isabelle are back on stage at the Neurodiversity Alliance Leadership Summit in Denver for the second part of their live conversation with Jesse Sanchez, President of the Neurodiversity Alliance. Jesse has been part of this community for years as a mentor, leader, and now the person helping guide the organization forward. The Leadership Summit is where Neurodiversity Alliance mentors and student leaders from across the country gather for training, storytelling, and connection. It's a room full of neurodivergent students learning how to talk about their brains with confidence—and how to help younger kids do the same.In this part of the live conversation, Safia Mohammed, a Brooklyn-based nursing student and Neurodiversity Alliance Student Ambassador who's been part of the community for several years, joins the conversation. She shares her story about something a lot of neurodivergent people wrestle with: the uncomfortable feeling that needing support somehow means you're doing something wrong.Safia talks about her experience first received an IEP (Individualized Education Program) in elementary school. At the time, it felt confusing. She was being pulled out of class for extra help and didn't really understand why. And like a lot of neurodivergent kids, she started wondering something was wrong with her. David and Isabelle unpack why moments like that are so common in the neurodivergent experience, from the stigma around accommodations to the deeply ingrained belief that success only counts if it's hard.If you've ever hesitated to ask for help because you didn't want to feel like you were getting an advantage, this conversation might shift how you think about support and what it's actually there to do.Here's what's coming your way:Safia's story of receiving an IEP and why it felt confusing when she was youngerThe moment that changed how she understood accommodationsWhy so many neurodivergent people feel shame around getting supportHow stigma around accommodations keeps people from advocating for what they need-------Wait, What's That? Here are some of the terms and people mentioned in this episode explained:IEP (Individualized Education Program): A formal education plan used in U.S. schools to provide accommodations and support for students with learning differences or disabilities. These supports can include extra time on tests, alternative learning environments, or additional instructional support designed to help students demonstrate what they actually know.Accommodations: Adjustments made in school or work environments that allow people with learning differences or disabilities to access the same opportunities as others. Examples include extended time on exams, quieter testing environments, or different ways of presenting information.Neurodiversity Alliance (formerly Eye to Eye): An organization where neurodivergent young adults and teens mentor younger neurodivergent kids through art projects and advocacy work. The rebrand reflects what they actually do: build an alliance of humans across the neurodivergent spectrum who know how to tell their full stories, vulnerabilities and superpowers included.OI: A term used by members of the Neurodiversity Alliance community to refer to the organization's annual leadership summit where mentors and student leaders gather for training and connection.-------

We dig into an OChem D, retakes across COVID, and the imposter syndrome that kept Chauncella from asking for help. A supportive advisor opened the door to evaluate ADHD, and during gap years Chauncella's psychometrist role made the patient impact feel undeniable. The MCAT became another turning point: inconsistent planning, test-day anxiety, and ultimately voiding the first attempt led to addressing mental health, receiving ADHD/anxiety diagnoses, and finally moving forward with clarity. Chauncella applied once to about 50 schools without prewriting secondaries, still earning seven interviews—many later in the cycle than expected—and learning to enjoy the process. The first acceptance brought complex “legacy” feelings, but subsequent offers and an in-state choice close to family brought confidence and fit. Now in pre-clinicals, Chauncella prioritizes balance—making time for the gym, therapy, and friends—to sustain the work. This conversation offers practical takeaways on asking for help, reframing setbacks, navigating timelines, and holding onto your why. What You'll Learn:- How to turn OChem setbacks and an MCAT void into momentum- Why addressing ADHD/anxiety can change your study and test strategy- Using gap years for clinical clarity and strengthening your application- Approaching interviews with calm, authenticity, and confidence- Choosing a school with fit, proximity, and finances in mind
Jeff and Mike welcome special guest Tim Threadgill of the Greater Phoenix Church of God, a professional counselor with years of experience helping individuals and families. The discussion explores the biblical value of seeking wise counsel (Proverbs 15:22) and offers practical guidance for Christians who want to support others in difficult seasons. Tim explains key helping skills—active listening, validating feelings without necessarily agreeing, setting healthy boundaries, and knowing when to encourage someone to seek professional therapy. The episode also addresses common questions about PTSD and autism, the stigma around mental health, and how therapy and (when needed) medication can be tools for healing, growth, and stability.

We have seen a lot of success since switching our sales funnels over to this system 18 months ago, so I want to share with you my insights on how to adapt your sales funnels amidst the evolving online landscape, especially with the rise of AI tools like ChatGPT.While there has never been higher content saturation than now, there are still effective strategies to keep sales funnels profitable and engaging. Dacia Moore, licensed counselor and founder of Second Wind Counseling & Consulting, has dedicated her career to helping African Americans understand the benefits of therapy, take a proactive approach to mental wellness, and become their best selves. She's the author of Why Are So Many Students So Angry? and the forthcoming From Stuck to Unstoppable. In this episode, Dacia traces her mission back to her Jamaican mother, Dorothy, whose struggle with depression became a living picture of what it means to be "stuck." Watching Dorothy's pain - and her resilience - taught Dacia that staying stuck has a cost, and that faith, work ethic, and getting help are how we move again. We talk about recognizing when to ask for support and take a break, knowing when to let go and move on, navigating depression with compassion, and guiding our children with the hard-earned wisdom of our own experiences. If you've ever felt alone in your struggle, if you're carrying shame about needing help, or if you know a veteran who's suffering in silence, this episode is for you.More info, resources & ways to connect - https://www.tacosfallapart.com/podcast-live-show/podcast-guests/mark-rossIn this powerful episode, MommaFoxFire sits down with Mark Ross, a veteran and advocate who's walked through the darkest corners of mental health and lived to tell the story. Mark opens up about his experiences with PTSD, depression & suicidal ideation, giving listeners a raw look at what it's really like to fight your own mind every day. This conversation is real talk about pain, survival, and what it means to ask for help when everything feels impossible.Mark talks about how his mental health struggles started after his military service, but he's quick to point out that trauma isn't limited to combat. PTSD can come from many places, and everyone's story looks different. What matters is recognizing the signs and getting support before things spiral. He describes the emotional numbness, the anxiety & the deep depression that followed him long after he came home. For years, he felt stuck, angry, detached & ashamed to admit how bad things really were. The turning point came when he realized that silence was killing him faster than any diagnosis ever could. He started therapy, reluctantly at first, but found that being honest with a counselor gave him space to start healing. He learned that therapy is less about “fixing” you and more about giving you tools to survive, connect & slowly rebuild your life.Mark and MommaFoxFire talk about the stigma that keeps so many people, especially men and veterans, from reaching out for help. They unpack how phrases like “man up” or “be strong” can trap people in cycles of shame and isolation. Mark admits that his lowest points included thoughts of suicide & that what ultimately saved him was connection... friends who noticed, a therapist who listened & his own decision to stop hiding behind a mask.He now uses his story to help others see that recovery isn't linear, and it doesn't require perfection. There are good days and bad ones, but progress counts in small moments... like getting out of bed, making a call or letting someone in on what you're feeling.Throughout the conversation, Mark's honesty hits hard but also offers hope. He reminds listeners that you don't have to wait until you're at rock bottom to reach out. Whether it's therapy, medication, support groups or just talking with someone you trust, there are ways forward. The episode closes with both Mark and MommaFoxFire encouraging anyone struggling to take that first step toward help. It might be scary, but it's worth it. Mark says it best: “You can't heal what you keep hiding. Talking about it doesn't make you weak, it keeps you alive.”This episode is a gut check and a lifeline all at once. If you've ever felt like you're falling apart, you're not alone, and this conversation proves that healing starts with speaking up.
