Elon Musk Takes a Stand, Vows Not to Be Blackmailed by Woke Advertisers

The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (11/30/2023): 3:05pm- On Wednesday, billionaire Elon Musk spoke with New York Times financial columnist Andrew Ross Sorkin at the 2023 DealBook Summit in New York City. During the conversation, Musk reacted to advertisers—like Disney, NBC Universal, Paramount, and Apple—pulling their money from X (the social media platform formally known as Twitter) due to disagreements over content permitted to exist on the platform, explaining: “If someone is going to try to blackmail me with advertising, black mail me with money—go f*** yourself.” He then said, “Hi, Bob!”—referencing Disney CEO Bob Iger who was attending the event. 3:30pm- While speaking with Andrew Ross Sokin, Elon Musk was forced to concede that without advertising dollars, X will go bankrupt and ultimately “be gone.” Though he defiantly told the audience at the 2023 DealBook Summit: “Let the chips fall where they may…What I care about is the reality of goodness not the perception of it. And what I see all over the place is people care about looking good while doing evil. F*** them.” 3:45pm- Chico Harlan, of The Washington Post, documents that although the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is hosting the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) later this week, they are simultaneously “ramping up its oil production capacity like never before.” You can read the full article here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/2023/11/21/uae-dubai-cop28-oil-solar/ 3:50pm- In an opinion piece featured in The Wall Street Journal, Bjorn Lomborg—a fellow at Stanford University's Hoover Institution—writes: “World leaders are gathering in Dubai for another climate conference, which will no doubt yield heady promises along the lines of the 2015 Paris climate agreement to keep the global temperature's rise ‘well below' 2 degrees Celsius and pursue efforts to limit it to 1.5 degrees. But they'd be wiser not to. New research shows how extravagant climate promises are far more wasteful than useful… peer-reviewed paper from MIT economists identifies the cost of holding the temperature's rise below 1.5 degrees as well as that of achieving net zero globally by 2050. The researchers find that these Paris policies would cost 8% to 18% of annual GDP by 2050 and 11% to 13% annually by 2100.” You can read the full editorial here: https://www.wsj.com/articles/net-zero-fails-the-cost-benefit-test-paris-climate-accord-cop28-748ae52d?mod=opinion_lead_pos6 4:05pm- On Thursday, the House Judiciary Committee held a hearing on the weaponization of the federal government. During the hearing, independent journalist Michael Shellenberger testified that the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) violated the First Amendment in 2020 when it actively censored political content on Twitter and Facebook. Shellenberger concluded that the campaign of censorship amounted to election interference—encouraging Congress to dismantle government organizations whose actions were violative of the Constitution. 4:25pm- Rich yells at Henry for using the Red Hot Chili Peppers as return music. Plus, the Philadelphia Eagles' week 15 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks will now take place on Monday, December 18th. It's the first time the NFL has ever used flex scheduling for a Monday Night Football game. 4:40pm- Earlier this week, the sports blog Deadspin wrongfully accused a young Kansas City Chiefs fan of wearing blackface and of mocking Native American culture during the Chiefs-Raiders game on Sunday—angling the photo to only show half of the child's face and failing to note that the face paint was black and red, the team's colors. The social media platform X added a Community Notes correction to Deadspin's original, inaccurate, post. Even Elon Musk felt compelled to set the record straight, praising Community Notes for “exposing deception.” It was later revealed that Holden Armenta, the child unjustly targeted by Deadspin, is Native American. You can read more here: https://www.dailywire.com/news/mother-of-young-chiefs-fan-accused-of-racism-says-he-is-native-american 4:50pm- Dave Huber—Associate Editor for The College Fix—joins The Rich Zeoli Show revealing Deadspin columnist Carron J. Phillips, the individual responsible for the inaccurate article smearing a young Kansas City Chiefs fan, has a history of making controversial statements. 5:05pm- Former Republican Nominee for Governor of Michigan Tudor Dixon joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss Governor Gretchen Whitmer's (D-MI) new, extreme green energy mandates. The bill, which she signed into law on Tuesday, requires utility companies in Michigan to generate 100% of their energy through renewable sources by 2040. You can listen to The Tudor Dixon Podcast here: https://www.tudordixon.com 5:20pm- On Wednesday, Vice President Kamala Harris spoke with New York Times financial columnist Andrew Ross Sorkin at the 2023 DealBook Summit in New York City where she baselessly insisted that “Russia interfered in the 2016 election.” Isn't former President Donald Trump currently being criminally prosecuted for questioning the validity of the 2020 election? There appears to be a massive prosecutorial double standard. 5:35pm- Anders Hagstorm of Fox News writes: “A New York appeals court reinstated a gag order preventing former President Donald Trump from maligning court staffers on Thursday. New York Judge Arthur Engoron had initially issued the gag order in early October after Trump lashed out at one of his law clerks on social media. Trump is currently fighting accusations of business fraud leveled by New York Attorney General Letitia James.” You can read the full article here: https://www.foxnews.com/politics/appeals-court-reinstates-gag-order-trump-fraud-case 5:40pm- While appearing on the Patrick Bet-David podcast, News Nation host Chris Cuomo said he would be open to voting for Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election. 6:05pm- According to a report from WCVB Boston, Harvard University will offer a for-credit course centered around the music of Taylor Swift—300 students have already enrolled in the class. 6:15pm- Snejana Farberov of The New York Post writes: “A veteran Ohio criminal defense attorney has been suspended for pooping in a Pringles can that he then dumped outside a victim advocacy center—admitting he regularly pulled such stinky stunts to ‘blow off steam.' Jack Blakeslee's stomach-churning habit emerged as he was suspended from practicing law for a year, with six months stayed, in a 13-page state Supreme Court opinion.” You can read the full article here: https://nypost.com/2023/11/30/news/lawyer-suspended-for-dumping-poop-filled-pringles-can/ 6:30pm- The Associated Press writes that there has been a concerning “surge in respiratory illnesses across China that has drawn the attention of the World Health Organization.” China's health ministry has claimed the uptick “is caused by the flu and other known pathogens and not by a novel virus.” You can read more here: https://www.politico.com/news/2023/11/26/china-respiratory-illnesses-cause-flu-pathogens-00128637 6:40pm- In his latest article, Sean Trende of Real Clear Politics argues that not only can Donald Trump win the 2024 presidential election, but that he should be favored to win. Nick leads off this week with an NY Times deep dive into the field of Music Therapy. Considered effective at helping patients deal with chronic pain, anxiety, limited mobility and hypertension, its popularity, along with the number of practicing music therapists, has grown considerably in the past decade. [NY Times]Song: GUM - “Argentina”Inspired by a video post from friend-of-the-show, Travis Orbin, covering “Ars Morendi”, Greg decided this week to discuss Mr. Bungle's 1999 album California. The album was due to come out the same day as Red Hot Chili Pepper's Californication, but RHCP singer Anthony Kiedis had Bungle's release date changed, sparking a feud between the groups. Greg believe Mr. Bungle's California was their last great album and the pinnacle of the groups magic. Songs:Travis Orbin - “Ars Morendi (Mr. Bungle Cover/Interpretation)” [YouTube]Mr. Bungle - “None of Them Knew They Were Robots”Mr. Bungle - “Goodbye Sober Day”Finally, Jay brings us an update on Spotify's latest attempt to fix the inequities of streaming royalties for artists…which is to say, they're cutting out the little guys entirely, cracking down on long play noise tracks, and refusing to confirm any of it after the story ran on both Billboard & Music Business Worldwide (MBW). While the challenge of paying artists fairly for streaming royalties is bigger than Spotify, the company sure does make it harder on themselves.Song: Robert Finley - “Waste of Time”

1989 - December: Nine Inch Nails "Pretty Hate Machine"

What the Riff?!?

The industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails is the creation of singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Trent Reznor.  While living in Cleveland in 1987, Reznor worked as an assistant engineer and janitor at Right Track Studios.  He had free access to the studio between bookings, and took inspiration from Prince to play all instruments himself to produce his material.  The name Nine Inch Nails comes from a quote by Al Jourgensen, lead singer of the metal band Ministry - "Listening to Ministry is like having a nine inch nail hammered into your head like a hole."  The debut studio album entitled Pretty Hate Machine was released by TVT Records in October 1989.  It has an industrial synth feel, with dark lyrics driven by angst, despair, and betrayal.  Unlike much of the industrial rock of the time, songs on Pretty Hate Machine feature catchy riffs and hooks, and the song structure employs a traditional verse and chorus approach rather than continually repeating electronics.  The result would prove to be both a commercial and critical success, reaching number 75 on the US album charts.Although Reznor produced and performed all the instrumentation on the album, he soon found himself in need of a touring band, particularly when he was brought in to open for Guns N' Roses on their European Tour.  Many musicians have been brought into the Nine Inch Nails over the years, but Reznor remained the only permanent member until his frequent collaborator, Atticus Ross, was brought in as a member in 2016.Lynch brings us this pioneering industrial rock album for this week's podcast. Head Like a HoleThe opening track to the album was the second and most commercially successful single, reaching number 28 on the US Alternative Airplay charts.   It also took inspiration from the quote from Al Jourgensen of Ministry.  The song is about the control that money has over people and the pain and suffering associated with it.  Terrible LieThis song reflects the anger and despair of a person going through a bad time in their life and blaming it on God.  "(Hey god) why are you doing this to me?  Am I not living up to what I'm supposed to be?  Why am I seething with this animosity?  (Hey god) I think you owe me a great big apology."SinWhen we give in to our darker impulses, perhaps driven by desire or betrayal, we can find ourselves in a spiral of self-destruction and sabotage.  The song is about the pain and destructiveness that can lurk below the surface.Down In ItThis is the debut single from the album.  During the making of the video, a camera attached to a weather balloon became detached and flew 200 miles away.  When found in a farmer's field the FBI was called in to investigate what appeared to be a gang or cult slaying of Reznor. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Main theme from the motion picture "Christmas Vacation 3" The success of "Christmas Vacation" inspired a number of sequels. STAFF PICKS:Higher Ground by the Red Hot Chili PeppersRob's staff pick is  a cover of a song Stevie Wonder originally released in 1973.  While the original went to number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, the energetic remake by the Red Hot Chili Peppers also achieved commercial success, reaching number 26 on the US Mainstream Rock chart.  It was the first RHCP song to chart.Bad Love by Eric ClaptonBruce brings us the second single from Clapton's eleventh solo studio album.  This is a comeback album, as Clapton had recently become sober after dealing with alcoholism.  It hit number 16 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.  This song features Phil Collins on percussion and backing vocals.  and would be awarded the Grammy for Best male Rock Vocal Performance in 1990. Good Work by the BoDeansWayne features a rockabilly party song from a Wisconsin group.  The BoDeans have been called roots rock, heartland rock, and alternative, but their retro 50's sound and driving live performance makes them a great band to see.  They performed extensively with U2 on The Joshua Tree tour, and remain popular in the US Midwest. The Last Worthless Evening by Don HenleyLynch closes out the staff picks with a hit from Henley's album "The End of the Innocence" that went to number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.  The lyrics are a plea from an ex to just move on.   INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:Pacific 202 by 808 StateThis Manchester electronic music group takes its name from the Roland TR 808 drum machine.

There's no stops on this week's monster mashup, even though someone should have stopped Andrew before he rewrote Phantom of the Opera as a Glee episode. Todd brings the stickiest answer to the party this week while also making more puns than your body has room for. Matt talks about 70 year old monster lore and no one needed that. Too much Tay Tay & Travis, Mel Tucker won't go away, Naked Attraction on Max, Donna D'Errico's sending pulses racing, Sen Bob. Menendez excuses, the best charting instrumental songs, and Matthew Perry has a new girl & is doing just fine. Trudi is back from her east coast vacation.  It was good except for the POS AirBnb & broken down rental car. Some people are saying AirBnB is played out. Drew did a deep dive on the best charting instrumental songs. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are hot and heavy... and dominating everything in the media. She celebrated his touchdown, snuck out of the suite in a popcorn machine, and then left in his convertible to rent out a whole restaurant. Who knew Bill Belichick had jokes? Mel Tucker sends yet another letter to MSU saying they shouldn't have fired him. Former NFL running back Brandon Jacobs agrees. After all, Jacobs is convinced Mel was set up by the University. Naked Attraction on dropped on Max. It's a dating show, where everyone's nude & some are "lifting off the bag". Jason Sudeikis and Olivia Wilde have settled their child custody case and something seems off. Everybody loved the show House even though every episode was the same. Dave Mathews is going to be canceled someday for his appearance on the show. Kevin Sorbo is mad that Hollywood actors aren't manly enough.  Especially those high paid femmes: The Rock, Vin Diesel, Ryan Reynolds and Mark Walhberg. The writers strike in Hollywood is finally over. Both Trump and Biden are going to town to make the UAW strike all about them. The only thing that could possibly stop Vince Neil from rocking the OK state fair is gunshots. The Global Citizens concert happened and no one noticed. Red Hot Chili Peppers were the only set worth watching. Trudi threatened to leave her fridge. The fridge had second thoughts. The new replacement fridge is very sad and looking for a new home. Donna D'Errico is sending pulses racing again. She looks good, just not like Donna D'Errico. Matthew Perry is doing just fine, despite all evidence to the contrary. He even has a new girlfriend. RIP David McCallum from The Man From U.N.C.L.E. London cops have opened a criminal investigation into the Russell Brand allegations. Drew dumped Jennifer Anniston.  Megan Rapinoe has not sung her final National Anthem for the USWNT. New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez has been indicted (again) for bribery charges. He has a "press conference" where he didn't take any question. Former NJ Governor Jim McGreevey, who resigned because of a sex scandal, is back baby!
