Happy New Year! We're back to share our favorite albums of 2025! We have a collective pick and it shouldn't come as a surprise. Getting Killed by Geese has made most of lists and we concur. Song: Geese - “Au pays du cocaine”Grabbing the number 2 spot on Jay & Nick's list was Everything Must Go by Goose. It still does nothing for Greg. His number two pick was Never Enough by Turnstile.Song: Goose - “Give It Time”Jay's third pick was Sam Fender's People Watching, Nick chose MEGAGONG by DOOM GONG, and Greg chose Private Music by Deftones.Songs:Sam Fender - “People Watching”DOOM GONG - "Never Crossed My Mind"Then Greg remembers the late Brigitte Bardot and tells us about his Christmas night listening to Coltrane's last recorded performance.Songs:Serge Gainsbourg - “Bonnie & Clyde”John Coltrane - “My Favorite Things (The Olatunji Concert)”
I feel like this year gave us some incredible music from a variety of artists. I wanted to share with you some of the bands and songwriters that were on repeat for me this year. We'll be talking about Tyler Childers, Margo Price, Nathan Evans Fox, Wednesday, Turnstile, Scowl, Lucy Dacus and Jay Som. I hope you dig it!
With nearly every app giving us some history of our activity this year, we decided to share with you three songs each that made their way onto our Apple Music Replay playlists. This is a super-sized, two-part episode. In today's episode, Bob and Carla share their picks, a few of which come with some controversy and some attitude. Have Bob and Carla formed their own alliance? Will Brad and Mark ever listen to a band from the current year and actually like them? You'll have to tune in to find out. Back in the before times, aka 2014, one of our favorite recurring guests got it in his head that ATTT needed to be paying attention to all the great new music being made by making an annual 'songs of the year' episode happen. Daskal also said that we needed to include the delightful Shannon Hurley and in the process the three of us will get to at least attempt to keep up with what's going on in music. 11 years later we're mighty glad we took that advice and now it has become the episode event of the year for us. We hope you all enjoy this playlist of current musical excellence. Picks 21-15 are revealed in Part 1 of 3 in our overloaded countdown of the best songs of the year.Everything Shannon in the world of music can be found at her website:https://shannonhurley.com/Shannon's mini paintings are flying off the shelf. Fast geschafft!

Send us a textWhat happens when billion-dollar executives decide concert tickets aren't expensive enough? The answer might explain why your favorite bands are disappearing from the road.In this candid solo episode, I dive deep into the economics of concert tickets after Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino's controversial statement that tickets have been "underpriced for too long." Breaking down exactly where your money goes when you buy a $100 concert ticket reveals a shocking truth – artists often walk away with just $8 per ticket, while venues and ticketing services take the lion's share. This explains why bands like Garbage have announced they'll no longer tour extensively in the US, citing "unmanageable" economics.Beyond the financial breakdown, I explore the different ways we experience live music – solo, with friends, or as an observer watching someone else connect with an artist for the first time. Each approach offers unique rewards, from the freedom of attending alone to the shared memories created with companions. There's something magical about standing in a room full of strangers who've come together through music, regardless of their differences. The episode wraps with my summer 2025 playlist featuring standout tracks from Liam Finn, Paul Schalda, Viagra Boys, Wolf Alice, Nine Inch Nails, and Turnstile – artists who remind us why we fight to keep live music accessible despite rising costs.Whether you're a casual concertgoer or a dedicated touring fan, this conversation tackles the hard questions about the future of live music in an industry that increasingly prioritizes profits over passion.
