Forty years ago this December saw the release of the most popular AND influential action comedies of all time.  This was star Eddie Murphy's immediate follow-up to his two breakout hits the previous years, 48 Hrs. in '82 and then Trading Places in '83, only THIS time he was the sole star above the title for the first time.  And Eddie did not disappoint with this fish-out-of-water comedy about a Detroit cop named Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) who travels across the country to Beverly Hills to investigate the murder of his best friend.  Even though that might not SOUND like the set-up for an comedic film, Murphy's gift for improvisation and a game supporting cast (John Ashton, Judge Reinhold playing two local cops whom he teams up with in Beverly Hills) bring a lot of humor to the proceedings regardless, along with a clever Oscar-nominated script from Daniel Petrie Jr and top-flight helming from director Martin Brest whose follow-up would be the even better Midnight Run four years later.  What results are memorable characters, quotable lines, and of course a kicking soundtrack including an iconic synth score from Harold Faultemeyer.  The Heat IS On! Forty years after the film Beverly Hills Cop (1984), Detroit police detective Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) returns for the fourth installment in the Beverly Hills Cop film series. After being burned by Eddie's legacy sequel Coming 2 America (2021), we were cautious about Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. We share our love for Eddie in the opening, along with Harold Faltermeyer, who composed the great "Axel F" theme song. This movie was released on Netflix, where it quickly rose to the most-watched film. Many older actors returned for this one, including Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser, and Bronson Pinchot as Serge. The film also stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Kevin Bacon, and Taylour Paige as Axel's daughter. The film is directed by first-time director Mark Molloy. We tried to bring some love and light to this one!

Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) is BACK.....for the first time in 30 years no less. :o We return to the ongoing adventures of the fast-talking, unflappable Detroit police detective who keeps finding excuses to visit Beverly Hills....this time to attempt to help out his now-grown daughter (Taylor Paige) who is now a defense attorney and his old friend Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) who is now a private detective working with her.  Also returning are several other beloved characters from the first two Beverly Hills Cop movies in the 1980's including Jeffrey (Paul Reiser), Serge (Bronson Pinchot), and most notably Taggert (John Ashton) who is now the local police chief for Beverly Hills.  What results is a throwback action comedy including all of the necessary throwback synth music....including a reprise of the iconic "Axel F" theme.  Let's see if the magic is actually back too....Host: Geoff GershonEdited By Ella GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a Text Message.https://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Mehr dazu von Wolfgang M. “Where are The Beverly Hillbillies during this?” The panel of peril just about make it home, despite the banana up their tailpipe (fnar, fnar), in their battered old automobile. Just in time to check out this week's film Beverly Hills Cop (Martin Brest, 1984). Detroit cop Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) is a streetwise, proverbial good cop who knows how to collar a perp. Unfortunately, his friend Mikey falls foul of Beverly Hills bad sod Victor Maitland (Steven Berkoff) and tastes hot lead at the hands of scary henchman Zack (Jonathan Banks). Looks like a trip to sunny B Hills is on the itinerary for Axel F! Watch the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oc3sPICXZLs ********PLOT SPOILER ALERT******** At first falling foul of Detective Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and Sergeant Taggart (John Ashton), Axel slowly makes inroads to finding out what Victor's beef with Mikey was. Cocaine and bearer bonds are being smuggled through his high-class art dealership, more than enough to nail his British bottom to the wall. Can Axel convince the Beverly Hills PD to help him do so, though? Did this week's film fill the panel with nostalgic cheer? Could they find a way to improve Victor's money-grubbing plan? And who will be named this week's most diabolical (person/podcast((er)))?

Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) is a street-wise cop from Detroit who - against his boss's orders - goes "on vacation" to Beverly Hills, California to solve his best friend's murder... drawing the ire of the very by-the-book police department there. This follow-up to the mega-smash Beverly Hills Cop sees the Beverly Hills police department stymied by the so-called Alphabet Robberies, whereby stores with monographed goods are hit by a gang of highly skilled thieves. One of these armed thieves is a statuesque blonde named Karla Fry (Brigitte Nielsen), who becomes a prime suspect when she attempts to murder Capt. Bogomil (Ronny Cox), shooting him twice and leaving him on life support. This brings Detroit detective Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) back out to the West Coast again, helping out his old friend, joining forces again with Beverly Hills detectives Taggart (John Ashton) and Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) in getting to the bottom of the case, despite the obstacles created by their new police chief, Lutz (Allen Garfield). All clues seem to lead to Maxwell Dent (Jurgen Prochnow), who appears to be using the robberies as a front for a much larger operation, although getting the evidence needed to bring him down isn't going to be easy, especially since Dent's men are armed to the teeth and know how to use their weapons.

Rob is currently on vacation solving a murder – or was that Eddie Murphy? Rewind to 1984 with guest co-host Luke from That Film Stew Podcast for the 35th anniversary of Beverly Hills Cop. It was the highest domestic box office earner of the year and potentially kicked off the “wise-cracking cop” genre. Directed by Martin Brest, Beverly Hills Cop is an action comedy film which follows Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy), a street-smart Detroit cop who visits Beverly Hills, California to solve the murder of his best friend. Axel Foley checks in with old friend Jenny Summers (Lisa Eilbacher) and starts to believe her boss, art dealer Victor Maitland (Steven Berkoff), might somehow be involved in the murder. However, Lt. Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi and Jersey Jason discuss Beverly Hills Cop 3. After his superior Inspector Todd (Gil Hill) gets murdered during a sting operation gone wrong, Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) follows the clues to pin down the killer at the Wonderworld amusement park.  A sleepy sequel if ever there was one, Beverly Hills Cop 3 tones down the violence and the comedy. The amusement park satire is toothless, and the rides look cheap. Bronson Pinchot returning as Serge is a highlight, but is still no reason to watch this movie all the way through.  Follow the show on Twitter @Sequelcast2 Like our Sequelcast 2 Facebook Page Sequelcast 2 is delighted to be a member of The Batman Podcast Network. Host Mat Bradley-Tschirgi discusses Beverly Hills Cop 2. Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) vows to track down the ABC Killer when they try to assassinate his friend Captain Andrew Bogomil (Ronny Cox). International arms dealing complicates the proceedings. Tony Scott (The Hunger, Top Gun) directs this slick flick resulting in a shinier more "Hollywood" look than the grittiness of the original. The stunts are bigger, but the comedy is lesser. Murphy seems more interested in leaning into an action star persona, but the tired story (didn't Agatha Christie do this?) makes Beverly Hills Cop 2 a little tiresome. There are some fun smaller moments with Gilbert Gottfried as an accountant, but this sequel is no classic like the original.
