We want to thank all of our friends for their continuing understanding and patience as we navigate Peach's cancer journey. The episodes may not be coming as regularly as usual, but we're trying our best. Once again, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you. We're coming at ya with a new episode! Peach completed her 14th round of chemo right before a PACKED weekend. It was unfortunate timing, but you gotta live your life. Plus, Peach is one strong woman. If she puts her mind to something, she's gonna make it happen. In this packed weekend, we went to see New Found Glory, Yellowcard, and Plain White T's play a show in Asbury Park at The Stone Pony. Then we made a trip to Heavy Reel Brewing to help them celebrate their 8th Anniversary. There was beer, tattoos, and fun! We wrapped up the weekend by making a trip to north Jersey to Pandora's Toy Box to meet Mark Linn-Baker and Bronson Pinchot. You may know them better as Cousin Larry Appleton and Balki. Peach made cookies, Pumpkin got a burger from Wawa, and we grabbed some sandwiches at Capriotti's (It was Pumpkin's first time) There's no separate Beer Patch this week, but Pumpkin does discuss his weekend at NJ Horror Con a couple weeks back. All those things and more await you. Matt Dillon is a working-class Brooklyn teen who gets a summer job at a Long Island beach club, where he meets a gorgeous lady and ends up being seduced by a glamorous lifestyle and a smooth-talking car salesman (Richard Crenna). Héctor Elizondo, Jessica Walter, and Bronson Pinchot round out the cast of what turns out to be a slow summer comedy with laughs AND heart. Also, Marisa Tomei makes her feature debut! If you like the episode, give it a like and a subscribe and buckle up for the Tomei train as we cruise through her early credits. If you leave a review on a podcasting platform, you can pick a movie for us to cover! I begin this podcast episode by talking about the strange timing of television in our lives. Sometimes a show arrives at just the right moment, and for a while it feels like part of your weekly routine. Then you get older, your habits change, and without really deciding to, you stop watching. Years later, you come back to it and realize there was a whole stretch of the story you never saw. Perfect Strangers was one of those shows for me. Then I talk about Perfect Strangers, including its creation, the people in front of and behind the camera, its place as one of the anchors of ABC's TGIF lineup, and the full run of the series from its mid eighties debut through its final season in the early nineties. I also talk about how the show changed over time, how Balki and Larry grew from mismatched roommates into family, and how Perfect Strangers helped lead to one of television's most successful spinoffs, Family Matters. Perfect Strangers worked because Bronson Pinchot and Mark Linn Baker were so right together. The show could be very broad, and sometimes very silly, but their chemistry kept it grounded. Balki and Larry were funny because they were opposites, but the show lasted because you believed they cared about each other. That friendship gave all the physical comedy, misunderstandings, and catchphrases something warm to hang onto. Metagirl is also back this week with a Top 5 list of the best episodes of Perfect Strangers. If you watched the show years ago, it is a nice reminder of why people loved it. If you never really watched it, it might give you a good place to start.
We're diving into the wacky world of “Second Sight” today, a delightful romp from 1989 that pairs a psychic detective with his skeptical partner on a wild chase to solve a disappearance. The main point? It's all about the chaos that ensues when the supposed psychic powers of Bobby, played by Bronson Pinchot, clash hilariously with Ray, the grounded ex-cop portrayed by John Larroquette. As they navigate a tangled web of kidnappings, mistaken identities, and absurd situations, we're left wondering if Bobby's visions are the real deal or just a stroke of luck. And trust me, the humor is as rich as a vat of ice cream - yes, there's a scene involving that too! So grab your popcorn, kick back, and join us as we unpack the comedic genius of this quirky film, along with all the nostalgia that comes with it!Takeaways:In this episode, we dive into the wacky world of 1989's film 'Second Sight', where a psychic detective and his skeptical partner navigate a chaotic case full of twists and turns. We explore the humor and absurdity of the movie, which features mistaken identities, eccentric suspects, and a hilarious ice cream-related mishap that leaves audiences in stitches. The dynamic between the characters, Bobby and Ray, highlights the classic buddy cop trope, where one is a believer in the supernatural while the other remains grounded in reality.Through a series of comedic misadventures, the film not only entertains but also prompts us to reflect on our beliefs about the supernatural and the power of friendship.Did you know Bronson Pinchot, the star of 'Second Sight', also played Balki in 'Perfect Strangers'? We discuss how his quirky characters have left a lasting impact on 80s and 90s pop culture. As we wrap up, we share our thoughts on the film's nostalgic charm, making it a perfect watch for those who enjoy a mix of comedy, mystery, and a dash of the supernatural.Takeaways:In this episode, we dive into the wacky world of 1989's film 'Second Sight', where a psychic detective and his skeptical partner navigate a chaotic case full of twists and turns. Judge not lest ye be Judge Reinhold. I think it says that somewhere in the Bible or maybe Robert McKee’s Story. Anyhoo, Vicky Van, Eric Fell and Jason Dedrick are back to talk about their memories of 1984’s Beverly Hills Cop. Will they forget to talk about Bronson Pinchot? Don’t be ridiculous. As a nod to Pinchot’s Serge, the hosts enjoy an Espresso Martini with Lemon. Also since it’s a buddy movie, they will also dine on A & W Buddy Burgers. But we’re just Neutron Dancing around the real issue, did they make a tribute drink? Yes! The Banana in the Tailpipe. Want to make it? Add to blender: One cup of milk (dairy or otherwise) One half cup of ice One banana (ideally frozen) One ounce of Kahlua Blend, pour into a tumbler and garnish with a slice of banana Review from producer’s wife: Totally awesome. Like visiting a mall in the ’80s and getting a better version of an Orange Julius. If you make The Banana in the Tailpipe or, better yet, make up a drink of your own, please send a picture to sneakyd@sneakydragon.com by following this link! Even if you don’t, we’d still love to hear from you. Also let us know what you think of the show and if you have any suggestions for future films. The Langoliers. Adapted from the Stephen King novella and directed by Tom Holland, the production follows a group of passengers on a redeye flight from Los Angeles to Boston who awaken to find most of the plane's occupants gone and reality behaving in unfamiliar ways. The episode examines the story's structure, the performances by David Morse, Bronson Pinchot, and the ensemble cast, and the miniseries' place within 1990s television. The conversation also includes interviews with writer-director Tom Holland and Aristotelis Maragkos, whose film The Timekeepers of Eternity reconstructs The Langoliers into a monochrome, collage-style reinterpretation. They discuss the original production, the process behind Maragkos's adaptation, and how the two works speak to each other across different formats and eras.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-projection-booth-podcast--5513239/support.Become a supporter of The Projection Booth at http://www.patreon.com/projectionbooth

Put on your power pantsuit and exact some just revenge as we sashay into 1992's The First Wives Club. What kind of idiot lets Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler, or Diane Keaton go? How do we get justice for Stockard Channing? And can we please get more middle-aged dance sequences in movies? Answers with a healthy side of schadenfreude can be found in this week's episode.
The Stephen King birthday tribute concludes with a bizarre and hilarious finale! For their last King review of the month, The Filmlosophers—Hosts Eddie and Spencer, and Intern Manager/Managing Intern Amy—are boarding a flight straight into the wonderfully strange world of the 1995 made-for-TV miniseries, "The Langoliers." The crew will bravely dissect this lesser-celebrated adaptation, exploring its ambitious premise, its infamously low-budget visual effects, and its utterly confounding storyline involving literal time-eating monsters. Get ready for a discussion that will cover everything from terrible CGI to the existential terror of a silent, abandoned Bangor International Airport. But before the time-eaters arrive, Amy has a major announcement! She's debuting a new segment within her "Jane Unseen" series: "Streaming is For Lovers!" Amy will pitch the team some genuinely under-the-radar romantic comedies that are original to various streaming platforms, and the crew will vote on which one they'll watch together for a future review. Join us for an show that closes out their King celebration with a laugh and opens up a new, surprisingly tender chapter for their cinematic viewing habits! So pull up a chair, grab your popcorn, and tune in to this week's “sky-high” of an episode of The Filmlosophers!

In this deeply candid and unforgettable episode of Still Here Hollywood, host Steve Kmetko welcomes Bronson Pinchot, the instantly iconic star of Beverly Hills Cop and Perfect Strangers. Bronson recounts his journey from poverty and an abusive childhood—surviving what he calls “the most enthusiastic and ingenious abuser you can imagine”—to sudden stardom after improvising the role of Serge, the flamboyant art gallery clerk in Beverly Hills Cop, opposite Eddie Murphy. Pinchot shares how that single scene, inspired by a real Israeli makeup artist, turned him into a "same-day sensation." With emotional depth and razor-sharp wit, Bronson opens up about navigating fame, finding healing through storytelling, and staying grounded through a turbulent rise in Hollywood. A must-watch interview optimized for fans of 80s film legends, raw celebrity stories, and unforgettable Hollywood transformations.Show Credits Host/Producer: Steve Kmetko All things technical: Justin Zangerle Executive Producer: Jim Lichtenstein Music by: Brian Sanyshyn Transcription: Mushtaq Hussain https://stillherehollywood.com http://patreon.com/stillherehollywood Suggest Guests at: stillherehollywood@gmail.com Advertise on Still Here Hollywood: jim@stillherenetwork.com Publicist: Maggie Perlich: maggie@numbertwelvemarketing.com

Send us a textRISKYSometimes you gotta say, “What the Fuck” to research, make your move. This week Season 14's penultimate 1x1 is co-host Ryan's pick: RISKY BUSINESS (1983). His reason: TGTPTU normally pairs filmographies of a single director or actor, and the writer-director on this film was so triggered by the experience of having his written, shot, and edited original ending replaced in the final cut that he never directed another film again… or at least not until his second film in 1990 (WTF, Ryan?). This film that would go on to become part of 1980s iconography by first-time director Paul Brickman, who had previously written the Michael Pressman-directed The Bad News Bears in Breaking Training (1977) and the Jonathan Demme-directed Handle with Care (1977) and would later be one of three credited writers on Clint Eastwood's True Crime (alternately known as Speed Zoo) (1999), Risky Business as dark teen comedy and potential Reagon-era satire stars a number of early roles by actors who'd become comedy stars of the 1980s, including as the protagonist Joel's fellow yuppie North Shore friends and entrepreneuring high school seniors in their first film appearances Curtis Armstrong (also known as Booger in the 1980s) and Bronson Pinchot (aka Balki in the 80s). It costars Rebecca De Mornay (later in the 90s known for her roles as a terrible nanny and as Milady de Winter) as the business-savvy prostitute, and has an early movie appearance by Joey Pants (known in the late-90s for taking the blue pill, Ralphie Cifaretto in the 00s, and a Bad Boy 4 life) as Guido the pimp. Oh, and it's also the first time that actor born Thomas Mapother IV, better known later in life by his stage name Tom Cruise, stars in the leading role in a film (but not the first time he danced in his underwear or kissed a female person, if DVD commentary tracks are to be believed). Behind the camera, you have two cinematographers: Eastwood's 70s and early-80s collaborator Bruce Surtees as well as regular Hollywood comedy lenser Reynaldo Villalobos. Pod-favorite Tangerine Dream scores. And the film scores big with first watches by host Tom and guest host Jack and with the Gen X'ers Ken and Ryan. It's a wild ride, so mind your parking brake. In this episode Ryan explains the economic milieu behind the 80's yuppie culture to the two young hosts while drawing comparisons to American Psycho (2000); the two Zoomers discover how to shorten future episodes; and Broom Hilda's creator, whose life strangely overlaps with Ken's past and present, drops by studio. Let's do the Dance of Joy as the gang digs deeper into the TGIF-verse to hang with our distant cousin from Mypos - Balki Bartokomous (a.k.a. the legendary Bronson Pinchot)! Bronson shares stories from his iconic roles in “Beverly Hills Cop," “Risky Business” and “True Romance," but also opens up about the challenge of playing silly characters when in reality…not everything is silly. A Friday night neighbor on "Perfect Strangers" AND "Step By Step," he details how he's become an absolute powerhouse in audiobooks and how he responds when someone KINDA recognizes him. This is Still Here Hollywood. I'm Steve Kmetko. Join me with today's guest, Serge from “Beverly Hills Cop”, Bronson Pinchot.Accents in film and television can very much define an actor's devotion to their craft. Whether it's Meryl Streep's Polish accent in Sofie's Choice, or Frances McDormand's Minnesota dialect in “Fargo”, the formation of those voices tell the story of where the character is from. But, there's one actor who reached overnight fame in the 1980's for his uniquely hilarious accent that left the movie-going world scratching their heads. Welcome back to the Video Store! Valentine's Day is almost upon us and if you're here looking for movie selections instead of out buying flowers or making dinner reservations, then sir or madam, I salute you. For this week's episode of the show I've picked four movies that feature unconventional relationships. After browsing the stores aisles looking for this week's film recommendations, I ended up rewatching all four of these movies (a couple of which I hadn't seen in decades) and for the most part they have all aged well. Harold and Maude (1971)Harold is a young adult obsessed with death, while Maude is a 79-year-old woman infatuated with life. The two share a hobby in common — attending the funerals of strangers — and soon this odd couple forms a close relationship. Wikipedia describes this film as a “romantic black comedy drama,” which only begins to describe it. It's sweet, it's funny, and it's emotional. While critics originally hated it, the film as gone on to appear in many “best of” film lists. Something Wild (1986)The last person you would expect a New York banker like Charlie to get involved with is a carefree person like Lulu, but after she kidnaps the yuppie for a weekend of reckless fun, Charlie finds the adventure exciting… until things get out of hand. When Lulu's husband discovers what the pair has been up to, he is none too happy. Someone — or perhaps everyone — has been lying. This not-to-miss thriller stars Jeff Daniels as Charlie, Melanie Griffith as Lulu, and a terrifying Ray Liotta has Lulu's husband, Ray. After Hours (1985)Have you ever had one of those days? After work, Paul Hackett heads to a local diner where he meets a woman named Marcy. The two exchange numbers and later, she invites him over to her apartment. This starts off a chain of events that will have Paul running around the streets of New York from one mess to the next. Before the end of the night his face ends up on wanted posters, he's chased by an angry mob, and he becomes involved in a city wide crime ring. It's a night that Paul will never forget — or maybe, survive. Featuring a star-packed cast including Griffin Dunne (An American Werewolf in London), Rosanna Arquette, Linda Fiorentino, Teri Garr, Catherine O'Hara, Bronson Pinchot, Dick Miller, and even Cheech and Chong. Directed by Martin Scorsese.Valley Girl (1983)Randy (Nicholas Cage) is a punk rocker from Hollywood. Julie (Deborah Foreman) is a Valley Girl. Their worlds are complete opposites and it seems that everybody and everything will try and stop them from getting together, but sometimes, love finds a way. This classic 80s film was directed by Martha Coolidge and will take you back to the sights, sounds, and music of the 1980s.Thanks for checking out the podcast. If you don't have plans this Valentine's Day, you can have a great time renting and watching one of these films. And if you would prefer to get out of the house, you can always drop by a stranger's funeral. You never know who you'll meet! This is a public episode. Forty years after the film Beverly Hills Cop (1984), Detroit police detective Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) returns for the fourth installment in the Beverly Hills Cop film series. After being burned by Eddie's legacy sequel Coming 2 America (2021), we were cautious about Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. We share our love for Eddie in the opening, along with Harold Faltermeyer, who composed the great "Axel F" theme song. This movie was released on Netflix, where it quickly rose to the most-watched film. Many older actors returned for this one, including Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser, and Bronson Pinchot as Serge. The film also stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Kevin Bacon, and Taylour Paige as Axel's daughter. The film is directed by first-time director Mark Molloy. We tried to bring some love and light to this one!

“You don't need to ask for directions anymore, you're no longer a fish out of water!” - Andrew on Axel's third time in Los Angeles On this week's episode, the Summer Blockbuster Extravaganza tackles an action comedy sequel that didn't need to exist at all, and no one wanted to make in the first place, Beverly Hills Cop III! What in the hell tone were they shooting for with this movie? How is Axel not blamed for Inspector Todd's death at the hands of Ellis De Wald? Why did they replace Taggart with Hector Elizondo playing a guy who's just Taggart with different facial hair? How is Wonder World still open for business after all the carnage Axel and company carry out on park grounds? And how hilarious and great is this George Lucas cameo? PLUS: What was the Tunnel of Love supposed to represent at the end? An indelible synth theme by Harold Faltermeyer. A scene-stealing turn from Bronson Pinchot. A banana in a tailpipe. EDDIE FREAKING MURPHY. It's no wonder that Martin Brest's Beverly Hills Cop is one of the most beloved action comedies (and still the highest-grossing R-rated film adjusted for inflation). We couldn't be more thrilled to have two of the hottest action directors in Hollywood - Bad Boys: Ride or Die's Adil & Bilall - join us to talk about Brest's blockbuster second feature, bringing all the expertise from their years spent developing Beverly Hills Cop 4. We're getting into the Stallone of it all, the Simpson/Bruckheimer of it all, the Judge Reinhold of it all - while also taking some time to unpack the specific nuances that Brest brings as a director (as opposed to Tony Scott's take on the sequel). And….yes. We talk about BATGIRL. For this week's episode of Unclear and Present Danger, Jamelle and John watched Courage Under Fire, a 1996 war drama directed by Edward Zwick and starring Denzel Washington and Meg Ryan, as well as Lou Diamond Phillips, Matt Damon, Michael Moriarty and Bronson Pinchot. In Courage Under Fire, Denzel Washington plays Lieutenant Colonel Nathaniel Serling, an army tank commander who accidentally fires on and destroys one of his own tanks during a nighttime battle in the closing days of the Persian Gulf War, killing his best friend in the process. The Army covers up the details and assigns Serling to a desk job, where he is tasked with investigating and determining whether a solider should receive the award for which they were recommended. He is assigned the case of Captain Karen Walden, the commander of a Medevac Huey helicopter sent to rescue the crew of a Black Hawk helicopter. She was killed in the line of duty, saving both the lives of her crew and those of the downed helicopter. This movie is the perfect all-nighter watch. NYC in the mid 80s'? Please and thank you! And much like the misadventures of Griffin Dunne in this Martin Scorsese masterpiece, After Hours, I just couldn't get this one done. It was a long and winding road that took me at least twice as long as usual. Very apropos. Now that it's done. Let's all relish the absolute monster cast of....Griffin Dunne, Rosanna Arquette, Linda Fiorentino, Teri Garr, Catherine O'hara, John Heard, Dick Miller, Bronson Pinchot, Cheech & Chong, Verna Bloom, Will Patton and all the bit players that round out this movie.

While catching up the trio realizes that each of them has lost a husband to a younger gal. With the help of a few good friends, family (Bronson Pinchot, Maggie Smith, Jennifer Dundas, Eileen Heckart), and dear uncle Carmine (Philip Bosco) our heroes will serve justice and then the greater community in The First Wives Club.
