"Yer man's in the pits, boss!" Joseph Kosinski's crowd-pleasingly kinetic F1 was one of the success stories of the year at the box office, displaying impressive legs (or wheels) to take the chequered flag with over $600 million in the global bank, making it the biggest hit of Brad Pitt's career. And now that the film is making its debut on Apple TV, our Chris Hewitt sat down with the film's producer, the legendary Jerry Bruckheimer, and stars Damson Idris and Kerry Condon for a fun, frank and fascinating look back at the movie. It's not a spoiler special, per se, but familiarity with F1 (the movie, not the sport, although that might help too) couldn't hurt. However you're listening to this, we hope you enjoy.
Martin Compston is in a brand new tv show called 'The Revenge Club' on Paramount+ which was shot in Ireland! He chatted to! Jerry Bruckheimer also talked to us about F1 being on Apple TV this weekendAnd we played FM104s Ins2Grand Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

But who do you trust when the fate of the world sits between two men who refuse to back down?We break down the acting, the intensity, the real-world parallels, and of course, the most heated submarine argument in movie history. Expect laughs, debates, and plenty of Say Whats Reel chaos.
Our guest this week, Jacob Scipio, began his acting journey practically straight out of the womb, signed by his aunt's boutique agency at birth and appearing on BBC television throughout his childhood. His path to becoming a working adult actor was far from easy, though; after auditioning for ten drama schools and getting into none, he found himself a broke student working odd jobs like landscape gardening. Tune in to hear the unbelievable sequence of events that followed, starting with a surprise call from the director of the American war film The Outpost and the white lie Jacob told to secure the job. He also shares the risky move he made by walking back into producer Jerry Bruckheimer's office and the hilarious, impromptu chemistry read with Will Smith that ultimately earned him the life-changing role of Smith's son in the Bad Boys franchise. These are the unforgettable stories that landed Jacob Scipio right here. Does it get any more '80s than Flashdance? Luminous Jennifer Beals is a welder by day who dances at a bar by night, but must conquer imposter syndrome to achieve her ballerina dreams. It's sort of a music video-esque Disney musical crossed with an inspirational sports drama (a la Rocky or Rudy), yet somehow Javi and Paul had never seen it, much to Producer Brad's amusement. Join them in a world made of steel, made of stone (aka Pittsburgh) as they bask in the glory of Giorgio Morodor's memorable music, wrestle with the film's male-gaze-fantasy-meets-aspirational-female-empowerment dichotomy, and get pleasantly sucker-punched by this surprisingly sweet fairy tale about having faith in oneself (and dancing like you've never danced before). And did we mention it's from the future director of Fatal Attraction, future screenwriter of Basic Instinct (and Showgirls), and action impresario Jerry Bruckheimer? Jerry is one of the most successful film producers in Hollywood history and this is rare glimpse into the production genius of Jerry Bruckheimer. Hear how he consistently produces such mega-hit as he gives us a rare insider's look into his creative process in talking about the major factors that go into his choices of what movies he will make. Jerry details what was entailed in creating a realistic experience for the audience in filming his latest movie, "F1" starring Brad Pitt, including the state-of-the art camera technology used and the actors training in F1 cars for 4 months on real F1 tracks around the world.
Degens Andy S and Brandon Bombay got the whole wide world, in their hands, as they discuss 'Con Air.' Bombay opens the proceedings by telling the time he had his own flight from hell from Asia which involved being awake for 36 hours after a bender, with his arm in a sling. Then the fellas talk about one of the goofiest studio movies of the '90s, a film where Jerry Bruckheimer tapped a gun for hire to do his best Michael Bay impression, and the KY budget was record breaking as everyone glistened on screen. Nic Cage's flowing locks, and hackey inconsistent sometimes southern, sometimes Cajun accent, gets top billing, but it's an insanely stacked cast. John Malkovich chews scenery to degrees that'll make your jaw hurt, Danny Trejo is an ultra predatory latin Pepe le Pew, and Steve Buscemi is a poetic psychopath who wears heads for hats. Meanwhile, approximately 58% of the plot revolves around Cage's Poe securing insulin for his friend. None of it makes sense, but it ends with not one, but two wild crash scenes that tear up the majority of the Las Vegas strip. Whether you love the movie or find it overly cartoonish you'll want to tune in for this episode ... "or the bunny gets it."
On the one hand, the IMAX-driven spectacle of F1 is undeniably satisfying to watch on the big screen; on the other hand, we all walked out of Joseph Kosinski's second teamup with producer Jerry Bruckheimer unsure whether it qualifies as a movie and not just a sophisticated simulation thereof. Despite the star power of Brad Pitt and a plethora of familiar sports-movie tropes, there's a human element missing from F1 that left us all slightly perplexed, and which is thrown into even sharper relief when placed against the character-driven comedy of the other film in this pairing, TALLADEGA NIGHTS. But despite their drastically different points of view, the two share some uncanny similarities that we get into during Connections, from their shared narrative tension between team loyalty and individual glory, to a crash-and-burn approach to trauma, to a wallpaper-like view of corporate sponsorship. Then we take an extra lap on this racing pairing with a Your Next Picture show recommendation for the long-running Netflix docuseries F1: DRIVE TO SURVIVE. Please share your thoughts about TALLADEGA NIGHTS, F1, or anything else in the world of film, by sending an email or voice memo to comments@nextpictureshow.net, or leaving a short voicemail at (773) 234-9730. This week on Totally 80s and 90s Recall, Dave, Rob, and Kurt are firing up the engines and diving into Days of Thunder (1990), the slick, high-speed NASCAR drama that brought Top Gun-style adrenaline to the racetrack. Directed by Tony Scott and produced by the powerhouse duo of Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer, the film stars Tom Cruise as Cole Trickle, a fearless but raw driver trying to prove himself on the NASCAR circuit. Backed by veteran crew chief Harry Hogge (Robert Duvall) and team owner Tim Daland (Randy Quaid), Cole navigates the fierce world of stock car racing, intense rivalries, and a life-changing crash that forces him to confront his own limitations. Nicole Kidman also makes her debut as Dr. Claire Lewicki, a neurosurgeon who becomes both Cole's caretaker and love interest. In their breakdown of the film, the guys rev up the nostalgia by exploring the movie's iconic race scenes, killer Hans Zimmer score, and the romance that sparked between Cruise and Kidman's characters. With plenty of behind-the-scenes trivia, quotable lines ("Rubbin', son, is racin'"), and some good old-fashioned '90s movie magic, Dave, Rob, and Kurt put the pedal to the metal in revisiting this cult favorite. When director Joe Kosinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer set out to make “F1,” their goal was to create the most authentic Formula One film ever made. Recorded in person at Skywalker Sound, this episode features the sound team behind the film, who share how they brought that vision to life. They discuss the extraordinary lengths they went to in order to craft a visceral, true-to-life experience for racing fans and everyday viewers alike — while also highlighting the invaluable support they received from the production and the film's director, Joe Kosinski.“I would say Joe is the grand master at giving us these opportunities [to succeed]. God bless him, because he gets it. He knows you can't just say, ‘I want this to be an authentic Formula One movie — figure it out.' He was like, ‘We're going to start early. We're going to give you whatever resources you need. And everything is going to be 100% perfect.' And he's not like, ‘This has to be perfect.' It's just, ‘We're going to do this together. What do you need? I'm going to help you. Let's get going.'”—Al Nelson, Supervising Sound Editor, “F1”Joining today's conversation: - Al Nelson – Supervising sound editor/sound designer - Juan Peralta – Re-recording mixer - Gary Rizzo – Re-recording mixer - Gwendolyn Yates Whittle – Supervising sound editorBe sure to check out “F1,” now in theaters and Dolby Cinemas®, in Dolby Vision® and Dolby Atmos®.Please subscribe to Dolby Creator Talks wherever you get your podcasts. You can also check out the video for this episode on YouTube.Learn more about the Dolby Creator Lab and check out Dolby.com. Jerry Bruckheimer is the Hollywood producer behind some of the biggest blockbusters of all time, including “Top Gun,” “Armageddon” and “Pirates of the Caribbean.” Now, he's back with “F1,” which stars Brad Pitt as an aging Formula One driver who's ready to make a comeback 30 years after an accident derailed his career. Jerry joins guest host Talia Schlanger to talk about some of the incredible feats he's pulled off as a producer, and how he drew on everything he knows about making action-packed movies to create this new film.

From launching careers and creating timeless hits like "Flashdance" and the original "Beverly Hills Cop" – and its recent hit sequel, "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F" – to the iconic dogfights in "Top Gun" – and let's not forget the absolute juggernaut that was "Top Gun: Maverick" – Jerry Bruckheimer knows how to make movies that hit hard and stay with you! We're diving headfirst into high-flying mayhem with Con Air, a chaotic symphony of explosions, one-liners, and mid-air madness—handpicked by our awesome Patreon supporter Susan from the Geek Girl Soup podcast!Con Air (1997) was born out of the mid-90s action movie boom, with producer Jerry Bruckheimer riding high from previous hits like The Rock and Crimson Tide. Wanting to blend testosterone-fueled chaos with a high-concept premise, Bruckheimer and the team crafted a story about a maximum-security prisoner transport gone wildly off the rails. The script, written by Scott Rosenberg, was inspired in part by a real federal program, but the film quickly ditched realism in favor of bombast and explosions. Simon West, a former music video director making his feature debut, was brought on to direct, bringing a flashy style that matched Bruckheimer's over-the-top vision. The production faced major challenges, especially with the practical effects and large set pieces involving planes, crashes, and convicts with very short fuses. Shot primarily in Utah and Nevada, including sequences at the infamous "Boneyard" in the Mojave Desert, the film used a combination of real aircraft, full-scale models, and miniature effects. Despite the logistical headaches, Con Air brought together a ludicrously stacked cast including Nicolas Cage, John Malkovich, Steve Buscemi, and Ving Rhames. Cage famously trained with DEA agents and adopted a Southern accent for his role — choices that added to the movie's now-iconic (and deeply memeable) legacy. If you enjoy the show we have a Patreon, so become a supporter.www.patreon.com/thevhsstrikesbackTrailer Guy Plot SummaryIn a world where justice is served on wings of chaos, Con Air follows newly paroled Army Ranger Cameron Poe, who just wants to get home to his wife and daughter—but finds himself trapped on a high-security prisoner transport flight hijacked by some of the most dangerous criminals in America. With time running out and a plane full of maniacs soaring toward disaster, Poe must fight from the inside to stop the carnage, clear his name, and maybe deliver a heartfelt bunny rabbit along the way. Buckle up—this flight's going down in action-packed, slow-mo glory.thevhsstrikesback@gmail.comhttps://linktr.ee/vhsstrikesback
