Once upon a time Man Must Die released two albums on Relapse Records and toured an absolute shit load. I actually remember when they toured with Machine Head, which is a fairly impressive thing for any metal band to achieve. Man Must Die were a death metal band, and in some quarters they were even called a technical death metal band. A term that vocalist, and our good pal, Joe disputes. And with good reason - technical death metal isn't really his bag. However, he does love Cryptopsy, and he has an extensive knowledge of death metal. And metal in general, really. So this week we thought it'd be a good idea to ask him to come along to talk about Cryptopsy, get his take on the various sub genres of death metal and to generally shoot the shit about a truly technical death metal band. Hello friends, welcome to another Trve. Cvlt. Pop!, it's all about music basically. On this weeks show we are getting excited about the fact that we are tantalisingly close to getting a new album from goth legends The Cure, their first in 16 years! We'll be reviewing that, of course, but in the meantime, we decided to go back through their entire discography and pick one song from each of their, usually, brilliant records. There's also chat about the disastrous SNL skit where famous cockneys Noel and Liam Gallagher bicker and a review of the recent Lauryn Hill and Fugees show at the O2, which... well, it was a LOT.

Welcome back, Metal Maniacs! In this special episode, your hosts Jay Ingersoll and Modd take on a monumental task that's sure to spark debate among metalheads everywhere: ranking every album by the legendary Brazilian metal band, Sepultura. From their raw beginnings in the gritty streets of Belo Horizonte to becoming one of the most influential forces in the global metal scene, Sepultura has a discography that spans decades and genres, pushing the boundaries of what metal music can be. Our journey starts in 1984 when brothers Max and Igor Cavalera, fueled by a passion for heavy music and a desire to rebel against the oppressive political climate of their homeland, formed Sepultura. As the episode progresses, Jay and Modd rank albums from Sepultura's thrash and death metal era, starting with *“Schizophrenia”* and moving through *“Beneath the Remains”* and *“Arise.”* These albums marked a significant shift in Sepultura's sound, showcasing their technical prowess and growing songwriting skills. No ranking of Sepultura's discography would be complete without an in-depth analysis of *“Chaos A.D.”* and *“Roots,”* two albums that not only redefined Sepultura's sound but also had a profound influence on metal as a whole. They also delve into the controversial aspects of *“Roots”* and how it divided the band's fanbase at the time. After the departure of Max Cavalera in 1996, Sepultura entered a new era with Derrick Green taking over as the lead vocalist. Jay and Modd rank the albums from this era, starting with *“Against”* and moving through *“Nation,”* *“Roorback,”* and beyond. The rankings during this era are particularly insightful, as Jay and Modd weigh the merits of each album, discussing the highs and lows of Sepultura's musical experimentation. In the latter part of the episode, Jay and Modd turn their attention to Sepultura's most recent era, marked by the addition of drummer Eloy Casagrande. Albums like *“Kairos,”* *“The Mediator Between Head and Hands Must Be the Heart,”* *“Machine Messiah,”* and *“Quadra”* showcase a band that has evolved yet again, combining technical proficiency with a renewed energy and passion. Our hosts delve into how these albums represent a resurgence for Sepultura, with the band gaining new fans and receiving critical acclaim for their innovative approach to modern metal. Jay and Modd discuss the influence of Eloy Casagrande's drumming on Sepultura's sound, bringing a new level of technicality and intensity to the band's music. After meticulously analyzing each album, the moment of truth arrives as Jay and Modd reveal their final rankings of Sepultura's discography. As they discuss their choices, expect heated debates, surprising agreements, and plenty of laughter. They reflect on the band's evolution over the decades, celebrating the highs and acknowledging the lows. The hosts also invite listeners to share their own rankings and thoughts, creating a lively discussion among the Metal Maniacs community. Throughout this episode, Jay and Modd's deep knowledge and passion for metal shine through, making for an engaging and informative listen. Whether you're a longtime Sepultura fan or new to the band's music, this episode offers something for everyone. It's a celebration of a band that has not only survived but thrived through adversity, continually evolving and redefining what it means to be a metal band.
