Threequel-mania! The 80s were not a safe time for children, as proven by the third entries in these iconic horror franchises. Dream Warriors is regarded as among the best of the Elm Street films, while Season of the Witch is still trying to catch its bearings as the only Halloween entry to not feature Michael Myers. The personal and collective subconscious abound in both films, with surreal explorations of dreams, witchcraft, and a little bit of Stonehenge. Will the Dream Warriors win? Does Season of the Witch deserve more than a shameful fall into obscurity? Can Alyssa and Bec stop making “deadbeat dad” jokes?goodmoviebadmovie.ck.page/about

We are joined by a guest, David from from the take 97: A Film Podcast. Warning we will be talking SPOILERSMartin and Boaz's choice for this episode is continuing their streak of eighties horror films. We went with the last entry in George A. Romero dead trilogy, Day of the Dead. On this one we talk about the amazing practical effects during the death scenes. And boy are there death scenes. We talk about if the sub text in the film works for us and indeed the characters. Plus we talk about the best zombie ever, Bub. Today we have a NNS/DBG/NNS from September 10th, 1993. We get a little pre-game Norm, game-time Norm and then post-game Norm. Titled: Words to Live By Mike Epstein is producing. It all begins with a Jack Harte traffic report and then on to the callers. Chauncy who nominates Norm for some special recognition. Rich from W Roxbury Lorriane in Boston who seconds the nomination. Please grab a pen and paper as the call includes a list of doily embroidery phrases. Email us at normnathanvos@gmail.comn with pictures of those completed projects. My favorite is the advice Norm was given by his alcoholic Uncle. Jack in Somerville with compliments and a favor to ask. Beth in MI who accuses another caller, Weldon, of telling fibs! Heading to 3am we hear the top hour news sounder and then cut to Big Bill Watson introducing Jack in Traffic. Then the Accux forecast with Dave Ryan followed by Norm with the Temp, Lottery, Sports and Intro with full Show Open that leads us to the DBG and that special theme song in its entirety! It’s one of games where Norm delves into the upcoming week for more dates. The Players: Joe in Brockton Joanne from Fairmont, W. VA Rich from W. Roxbury Lorraine in Jamaica Plain Mike Epstein and Jack Harte The Bdays: Brian De Palma Tom Landry 9/13 Jacqueline Bissett Nell Carter Mel Torme On to Side B to finish out that first half of the game before we break for the bottom hour news. Bill Watson, Jack Harte and Dave Ryan do their thing before we return to the game! Moving on to 9/16 Lauren Bacall Ed Begley Jr. Peter Falk And then it’s Back to 9/13 for Claudette Colbert Before news time we take a call from Paula in Dracut She asks about Norm’s dogs. She is also heading to video a wedding and that starts a conversation that carries over after the top of the hour. All the usual suspects are back for news and then we finish up with Paula and close with Kevin from Roxbury who continues the talk about video recordings of everything. Norm gives great examples as it’s EXACTLY what’s going on now! Do we tape too much of ourselves? Wow…this was prophetic. It’s definitely a problem. I’ll save that discussion for my other channel, Tony Nesbitt’s Vault of Annoyances. Other things: Norm impresses again with his impressions. Norm inquiring if there are any younger women who prefer older men. Real older men. Jimmie Walker and Johnny Walker. And Norm name drops the photographer from his wedding. We are fully loaded with commercial content! The rich, chocolaty taste of after school Ovaltine. That's why there are lots of trilogies. 在电影史上你就能看到很多的trilogy, 三部曲. This is usually the original movie followed by sequel, and then followed by a threequel, the third movie in the series. Now there are many examples of high profile threequels, for example, The Godfather Part III, 影史上有很多有名的电影系列都出到了第三部, 比如说《教父3》.And the latest threequel in the Jurassic Franchise – Jurassic World Dominion.刚刚上映的《侏罗纪世界》第三部也是一部threequel.Many threequels have enjoyed box office success, especially those ones that are based on stories originally conceived as trilogies, such as The Lord of the Rings.很多系列里的第三部票房成绩都还算不错, 特别是像《指环王》这样本来就计划做三部曲的电影系列. However, despite the box office success they may enjoy, threequels are often seen as disappointing. 虽然票房不错, 但是也有很多人都觉得凡是三部曲里的最后一部多半都是烂片. Some people even talk about the curse of the threequels, 甚至有人把它叫做threequel的诅咒. And it's not just the terrible ones, some of the most critically acclaimed trilogies also suffer from the threequel curse.即使那些很有名的电影系列, 很多时候也逃不过第三部烂尾的诅咒. So it got us wondering, what's really happening here. Why are threequels almost always the worst ones? There are two factors that come into play here: formula and necessity. The reason why film trilogies have been around for so long is that they're a really great structure to tell a long story, with each film serving as a beginning, a middle, and an end. This also means that each film should serve a very specific purpose.为什么三部曲一直很火?主要就是因为如果要把一个很长的故事讲完整, 三部曲的分工正好是beginning, middle, and an end, 各占其位, 各司其职.No matter the genre, the first film always serves as an origin story that introduces us to our heroes and the world they live in. 第一部, 通常是介绍整个故事的大背景以及主人公.The sequels always tend to enjoy more freedom, since their characters and worlds are already established for them. For this reason, the second film is all about heroes facing the greatest challenge they've faced yet.然后到了sequel续集的时候, 因为前面已经打好了框架, 就可以专注来讲主人公面临的某一个巨大的挑战或者一个大反派.This is where the problem with threequels comes in. May 20-26: Brendan Fraser in unearthed, Tom Cruise is Irish, Johnny Carson says farewell, JLo has had enough, Matt Damon's a horse, Ally McBeal and House call it quits, Felicity graduates, and reality television hits the real world. In this episode, we learn to count to 12...or wait...was it 9? Is that the same kid? Ugh. Whatever. Just get in the car already. We're late! This week we're bringing you another threeboot (patent pending) with Cheaper by the Dozen. Originally released in 1950, this movie tells the true story of efficiency experts Frank and Lillian Gilbreth and their 12 children. Then, somewhere between 1950 and 2022, Disney dropped just about everything (including three whole children) and delivered a disappointing reboot that really only shares a title with the original. Honestly. This would have made a whole lot more sense with a title of Yours Mine and Ours, but now we're just splitting hairs. Where were we? What? Steve Martin? Right, right. Poor middle child. We'll get to that. We promise. This podcast was produced by Andak Media. Andak is dedicated to helping creatives find community and support for their creative passions. What's a threeboot? We're not sure, but it's 2 hours long and has more side tracks than a Bethesda RPG. In this episode, we learn that it's perfectly acceptable to be bat $#@! crazy as long as you help catch a serial killer. And root out police corruption. And pick fights with mobsters. And sort of thwart a cat burglar (maybe?). We're checking in with the World's Greatest Detective to see what's new in Gotham City since Warner Bros replaced Batfleck, and hoo boy...there is a lot to take in. That's right, ladies and gents. It's a Batman episode! Join us as we embark on a harrowing journey to keep Mike's ADHD fueled fangasm in check and string together even a shred of coherent conversation about the only superhero franchise to be rebooted more times than Spider-Man. Scott talks to Danny Sjursen about U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, which at the moment the Biden administration appears poised to follow through with. Sjursen is concerned about the response from the mainstream media and both party establishments—Republicans claim pulling out of Afghanistan makes America look weak; Democrats fear that pulling out will make Biden look weak politically. With this kind of bipartisan consensus, it's extremely difficult to get things done that the establishment doesn't like. (But it's also a sure sign that the right thing to do is the exact opposite of whatever they both agree on.) All our time in Afghanistan, Sjursen says, hasn't helped the people of that country, and it certainly hasn't made Americans any safer. Discussed on the show: "Spare Us an Afghan Threequel, Joe: Don't Get Pulled Back In!" (Antiwar.com) "Truman As The BUTCHER of ASIA" (History News Network) "The Man Who Would Be King (1975)" (IMDb) An Enemy We Created: The Myth of the Taliban-Al Qaeda Merger in Afghanistan Danny Sjursen is a retired U.S. army major and former history instructor at West Point. He is the author of Ghost Riders of Baghdad: Soldiers, Civilians, and the Myth of the Surge, Patriotic Dissent: America in the Age of Endless War and A True History of the United States: Indigenous Genocide, Racialized Slavery, Hyper-Capitalism, Militarist Imperialism and Other Overlooked Aspects of American Exceptionalism. 2007: The year of the sequel. Dozens of sequels came out, but three of them (that all happened to be "part three" of their franchises) were the biggest of the year: the bombastic "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End", the lackadaisical "Shrek The Third", and the villain-stuffed tonal question mark "Spider-Man 3".Nat and Ben dive into this "THREEQUEL SPECTACULAR" with a special guest, writer Gabirel Laks (who happens to be their old college friend). This trio compares and contrasts these three threelquels - does Spider-Man 3 work at all? Is Captain Jack Sparrow over the hill by part III? How many corporate partnerships did "Shrek The Third" take part in? Superlative awards are given: "Worst new character", "Worst Script", "Moment that makes you harken back to the glory days of the franchise", and more.It all ends in a presidential style "Spider-Man 3" debate between Gabriel and Ben.Follow us on Instagram, Twitter, and TikTokFollow Nat and Ben on LetterboxdEmail us at bttmpod@gmail.comAnd please, give us a 5-star review and share the podcast with your movie-loving friends!

Bad seems to be the operative word for how the guys would describe this 1995 action flick. While the laughs they had at the expense of this film may have been unintentional they are well worth the listen this week on The Threequel.

For years, the word “threequel” has sent shivers down the spines of film fans. A sequel is tough enough, but a sequel to a sequel? Hardly ever turns out great, right? Well, Michael B. Jordan is hoping to break that curse as the star and director(!) of “Creed III.” And to help, The Playlist Podcast is discusing three films that are some of the best threequels to ever grace the big screen--- “Back to the Future Part 3,” “Die Hard with a Vengeance,” and “War for the Planet of the Apes.” --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/theplaylist/message

Hey guys, thanks for listening to A.M. in the P.M. with Alex and Matt –– the podcast where we discuss what we’ve been watching, oh so loosely, as well as other entertainment related items!Quick disclosure, I forgot to change some settings before recording this episode so there were some very, very soft moments and some very, very loud moments but I did my best to adjust the levels and to make this episode sound good.In today’s episode, we get back to the basics briefly discussing the 2019 Oscars, the future of the Arrowverse and DCTV, our excitement for the Detective Pikachu movie and Rotten Tomatoes recent update to stop the internet trolls! Lastly, we conclude with an in-depth look at How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. Please enjoy the A.M. in the P.M podcast!(Listen all the way to the end to find out how Alex trains his dragons!)
Welcome horror fans, to the final Threequel podcast of the year! Many have speculated about what the last film we're covering may be. Its time for a curve ball! We're not giving you a Part 3. We're giving you what SHOULD have been a Part 3. What many horror veterans would consider the REAL Creepshow 3. We're talking about John Harrison's Tales From the Darkside: The Movie (1990). Directed by the man who scored the first Creepshow, Darkside is the cinematic crescendo of the successful Tales From the Darkside 80s TV show. This anthology film gives us three tales of terror from King, Doyle, Romero and McDowell. A splendidly fun horror movie featuring KNB effects and budding roles from established stars. Come, end the year (and our Threequel theme) with us and learn why 'Tales' is the Creepshow 3 you never got but always wanted! Show Higlights: 01:00 Prelude to Terror... 07:00 Previews of what could have been... 09:00 The history of Tales From The Darkside TV Show 12:30 Enter the Tales movie... 13:20 Debrah Harry, the witch! 16:35 Lot 249... 24:40 the Black Cat... 34:00 The Lover's Vow... 44:44 Scoring the Film... 48:01 Conclusion! happy New year!!
Welcome back listeners! We weren't expecting to return so soon but the death of our beloved Lord of the Undead; writer/director George Romero has forced us back to the mic for another special remembrance podcast. Only minutes after the news of George's death was circulated we were inundated with requests from friends and colleagues who pleaded for a Horror 101 Romero show. Not just that, they wanted to be involved in the recording. So this show is going to have 9 of us getting together to share our Romero stories from when we met him. How his movies affected us growing up and what it was like to be on a Romero set for Land of the Dead. We also watch Day of the Dead to keep in tune with our threequel theme this year. Clocking in at just under an hour this is longest podcast since the Top 20. Join us as we pay tribute to The Godfather of the modern Zombie. Show Highlights: 01:00 Prelude to Terror... 05:40 Meeting Romero at the Cons... 08:30 Night of the Living Dead... 16:05 Duane Jones... 17:50 Nood and I watch Martin... 23:35 Threequel talk (Day of the Dead)... 36:16 Clancy on the set of Land... 44:05 Eugene's Horror 101 hat trick... 48:15 The Man was a saint... 51:20 Conclusion (thanks for listening!)
Welcome back to Phantom Zoned, the weekly podcast where host Adrian Torres leads us on a voyage through the worst movies that cinema has to offer. If judged guilty of crimes against cinema, the film will be jettisoned into the Phantom Zone, an inescapable prison where they will remain for all eternity. Threequel month is over, but we're still doing the third films in series because we're really terrible at scheduling. This week, Robocop 3 stands at the mercy of the judges. Both Adrian and Scott consider the original one of the best films ever made, so this robo has a tall hill to climb. Will Murphy's third ride compute, or will this movie need some serious reprogramming? Tune in and find out! Welcome to the first Horror 101 Threequel podcast for this year. In 1973 writer William Peter Blatty and Director William Friedkin collaborated to give us one of the most memorable and important genre films ever to be made. The Exorcist. Several years later the talented John Boorman followed up with one of the worst sequels in horror history, Exorcist II: The Heretic from 1977. Fast forward 13 years and Exorcist III: Legion is made, this time both penned and directed by Mr. Blatty. Exorcist III was released with little fanfare but over the last couple of decades it has slowly gathered strength as one of the most fierce and terrifying films to come out of the 90s. With extraordinary performances by George C. Scott, Brad Dourif, Jason Miller and Ed Flanders, outstanding sound design and a smart, patient script Exorcist III has the power to scare even the most veteran fans all while brilliantly ending the legacy of Father Damian Karras. With the recent passing of Mr. Blatty earlier this year we felt our first Part III focus should certainly be his masterpiece. Join us for another great show with a small tribute to John Hurt who also passed away recently at 77. Show highlights: 01:00 Prelude to Terror... 03:00 The John Hurt tribute... 10:20 The genesis of The Exorcist... 15:00 Exorcist 3 in 1990... 17:00 The friendship of Kinderman and Dyer... 20:55 An evil gets closer... 24:30 The Gemini Killings... 26:10 The possession of Karras... 27:30 Brad Dourif... 30:05 The Hallway Scare of the Century... 32:20 A clear invitation to the dance... 35:20 The end of Karras' Story... 37:15 Scoring the film... 41:15 Conclusion! Thanks for listening!
This week we didn't want to do any research so instead we talked about our families scarring us for life, Christmas films, literature and our education. And urine, we talked a lot about urine.
