Qi is a massive city so starting near the markets for a place to stay seems like as good an idea as any. As the small group makes their way into the city proper they learn a little more about the city that calls itself the center of the world. There's a calm excitement that seems to have taken hold of all of them. Lodging is acquired, rumors are picked up, and friends are sought out. Join us and Nehemiah, Smalren and Jhori explore the city. It's frequently argued that playing games like Dungeons & Dragons can help you develop social skills like, cooperation, teamwork, and interpersonal communication. Get in there, use the game as scaffolding to practice those skills in a low-risk environment, and be a better you!And while these arguments make sense and are sometimes paired with anecdotal evidence, research in a controlled study are hard to come by for a variety of reasons. In this episode of the podcast, I'll talk with a researcher who has set out to create and empirically test a program for using D&D to help people lower social anxiety and loneliness while improving their self-image.Remember that Patreon supporters (patreon.com/pog) get ad-free versions of the podcasts and other bonus material!Guest Expert Links:Dr. Billieux's university pageHis Researchgate.net pageInformation about the study we discussedAudio Credits:“Robot Motivation” by The Polish Ambassador, licensed under Creative Commons: CC BY-NC-SA 3.0"Babylon" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

Finally I'm back with a little something to hold you over until Episode 8: A new subset of minisodes I've dubbed "Short Takes" which will cover such things as DVD/Blu-Ray releases I've recently acquired or perhaps acquired a while ago and am just now getting to watch, entertainment news I feel the need to put my two cents in about, or just what may be troubling me. They also serve the secondary purpose of tiding you fine folk over until the next proper episode of Abnormal State Theatre comes around. Episode 8 has been recorded and is in the process of being edited...hopefully it'll drop a week or so after this does. But a Short Take could pop up in the feed at any time. This first Short Take covers a couple of box sets I partook of while on vacation up in the mountains: The full-series DVD box set of the legendary pseudo-documentary series "In Search Of..." starring the late, equally-legendary Leonard Nimoy, and the full-series box set of the original "Star Trek"...I don't look so much at the series as I do the seven-plus hours of special features included in the set. Once I started, I took to the extras like a Tribble to quadrotriticale. Anyway, enjoy!Peace-RDGShort Takes #1 - In Search Of Where No Man Has Gone BeforeMusic:"Babylon" - Kevin MacLeod - www.incompetech.com"Highly Illogical" - Leonard Nimoy - Mr. Spock's Music from Outer Space"Main Title/Klingon Battle" - Jerry Goldsmith - Star Trek: The Motion Picture Soundtrack"Star Trek Theme" - Alexander Courage"Rocket Man" - Written by Bernie Taupin, performed by William Shatnerhttp://archive.org/download/ASTShortTakes1/AST_Short_Takes_1.mp3
