SouthCrest Church Sunday morning message, 9/03/23. Our journey through the Bible continues with Senior Pastor Matt McFadden calling on us to be willing to pay the price of sacrificing everything to take up our own cross and follow Jesus, just as He calls us to do in Luke 9:23-27.
- Women are given the freedom to make vows to God, at a time when women had very few rights at all. - Men are able to break their wive's vows to God, without any consequences being put on the woman. - Jenn discusses how the Bible is not taking away women's rights, but rather giving them rights. I recently read an ingenious idea. One mom was in a dark parenting rut, as she describes it. She realized that she was actually bullying her kids. She started to give physical reminders that kindness, patience, and gentleness are what she's aiming for. {Day 8} My Prayer today for my kids: Ephesians 1:16-23 I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way (NIV). {Day 9} Some friends and I were discussing how we, as moms, take our children's misbehavior personally. We internalize it. Do you do that? Do you feel like your children's misbehavior is a reflection of you and your parenting? {DAY 10} How often have you said, "JUST DO IT!" to your kids? Whether they're dilly-dallying, outright defying you, or getting distracted (that happens A LOT in our home!), you need something done either for your good or theirs, and yet, they just can't seem to get it done. "Just do it!" we say exasperatedly. "How hard is it?" we ask because we just can't understand how they can't finish something SO SIMPLE. Normally, it would take them a fraction of the time it is taking them. Do we forget that we do the exact same thing? If you'd prefer to listen to the podcast, you can click here. {Day 2} Am I enough? Do I have what it takes to help my kids? Do I have the knowledge, energy level, or desire? Did God know what He was doing when He gave me my children? Would another mother have suited them better? Have you ever felt any of those things? Be honest! {Day 3} If God is enough, am I desperate enough for Him? {DAY 4} Today I want to focus on one verse and look at a bunch of translations. These are taken from Bible Gateway. This is part 9 of a series on Discipleship taught by Teaching and Vision Pastor, Jason English. Subtitle: Love John 13:34-35 A New Command Genesis 22:2 - First use of the word "Love" in the Bible "Take your only son, whom you love" aheb/ahav - long for, desire, to breath for and with. Face-to-face with someone, breathing with them, longing for them. aheb/ahav - root goes into the soil, connected with the ground Love is... -when connectedness bears fruit -bearing fruit The fruit of love is...fruit. Genesis 1:27-28 - First words God spoke to Mankind "Be fruitful and multiply." We were made to be connected with one another and to grow. When people love, they are connected, and there is fruit that is produced that is evidence of that connection. Love. Simple. Romans 14:9 - EDIFY (build up) "Let us make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification." We need each other. 1 Corinthians 12:26-27 "If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it." Ephesians 4:11-16 "Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work."
