For two years in a row, the Florida State Seminoles have upset the North Carolina Tar Heels in football. North Carolina raced out to a 10-0 lead but quickly lost hold of the initiative. From that point on they never felt like they got their feet back under them. FSU played measured, ball control football, and widdled UNC down for the rest of the game. Much of FSU's offensive production came off of a career day for quarterback Jordan Travis. He stayed patient in the passing game and took the reigns of the leader of the running game. The threat of his legs opened things up for FSU's talented stable of running backs. Jashaun Corbin and Treshaun Ward received the carries that many fans had been clamoring for and took full advantage of them. Defensively FSU seems to be getting better on a game-by-game basis. Coverage was tight throughout the game and the defensive front is continuing to prove to be one of the better fronts in the conference. They let UNC quarterback Sam Howell run for over 100 yards but ultimately Howell was unable to beat the Seminoles using his feet. There was a lot of good in this game but even coaches can't see everything on a single watch. So join the guys at the Triple Option as they rewatch one of the most complete games FSU has played in years. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tomahawknation/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/tomahawknation/support

The Florida State Seminoles defeated the North Carolina Tar Heels by a score of 35-25. The ‘Noles played one of the cleanest games of the season and looked like the more cohesive group throughout the game. They found a lot of their success on the ground. Quarterback Jordan Travis led the charge with 121 rushing yards on his own but runningbacks Jashaun Corbin and Treshaun Ward combined for another 129. On defense FSU held North Carolina's talented quarterback Sam Howell in check for a majority of the game. UNC was forced to find success on the ground and ultimately couldn't sustain their drives because of it. This game was a big potential stepping stone for this Florida State team. It was the most complete game they have played in Norvell's tenure and may give some confidence to the team moving forward. There was a lot to like and a lot to keep in mind for this game. Here to give their instant thoughts on tonight's performance are Kevin Little and Adam Brown. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tomahawknation/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/tomahawknation/support

Florida State Football looks to ride some momentum off of their sole victory of the season into Chapel Hill on Saturday to take on the North Carolina Tar Heels. Neither of these teams has lived up to expectations this year. This was supposed to be a breakout year for the Tar Heels. They have had some solid recruiting classes and looked to build off the past successes of coordinators Phil Longo and Jay Bateman. Compound that with the return of Heisman hopeful Sam Howell and many believed that UNC would make a run for the ACC title. That hasn't been the case early in the season. Offense Features a lot of flexibility in their routes- there's even a rumor that there's a “get open” route in the playbook Simple reads and frequent deep shots allow Howell to showcase his strengths They lost a lot of playmakers which means that often these receivers struggle to get open Offensive line issues add to the problem which brings them towards the bottom of CFB in sacks allowed When Howell gets time it's an explosive and fun to watch offense Defense Base 3-4 Very aggressive- frequent one gapping which means the defensive line is upfield quickly Fire zone heavy- a fire zone is a 5 man pressure with a spot drop zone behind it If they get pressure they are a decent defense But if not they can struggle with underneath coverage Contain may be a problem. The mobile QB Jeff Sims for GT took advantage of their over-aggressiveness which led them to lose gap integrity. Conclusions It has been difficult to parse out this UNC team's true colors. Much like FSU, it seems like any team can show up on any given Saturday. Because of that, this game is not quite the lock that it should be when considering the fact that UNC is a much better-coordinated team with an exceptional quarterback. A lot of these things are a bit difficult to get a mental image of so that's why I provided some images myself. Let's dive into the film to get a better understanding of FSU's matchup. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tomahawknation/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/tomahawknation/support

It's Clemson and everyone else...again. While there are a few interesting teams in Mack Brown's North Carolina Tar Heels and Manny Diaz's Miami Hurricanes, the rest of the ACC is pretty much...meh to complete garbage. There are a few teams that might come up and challenge including Boston College, Wake Forest and perhaps we might get a flash from Louisville. However, the likes of Florida State and Virginia Tech, formerly football powers are now basketball schools and their football tradition tarnished.  Give us a listen, give us a share!  Let us know how we're doing!!!

Our true basketball fans will really appreciate this episode. We are starting off the weekend right with one of the most dynamic scorers who made it look REAL easy, especially during his high school and college days. Joseph Forte takes the time to chop it up and share his story with us.       Forte starred at DeMatha High School where he played under the legendary coach, Morgan Wootten. He was a McDonald’s All-American and went on to play 2 years at North Carolina where he was named the ACC Rookie of the Year, first-team All-American, and ACC co-Player of the Year. He also helped lead UNC to a very memorable Final Four run. He was selected 21st overall by the Boston Celtics in the 2001 NBA Draft and had a great career that included stops in both the NBA and overseas. He shares great stories about his time at UNC, journey to the NBA, experience overseas, Morgan Wootten, Bill Guthridge, Gary Payton, Ray Allen, Baron Davis, Jeremy Pargo, Sofoklis Schortsanitis and MUCH more.     It was an absolute pleasure to learn from Joseph Forte and we can’t thank him enough for sharing his hoops story with us. In this episode we relive some memorable moments that will also really help the young hoopers coming up. His game always stood out on the big stage, but the man he is today is what stands out the most. A good one left the game of college basketball.  Roy Williams retires as head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels.  What a great honor it was to watch him coach.  Rich has even used some of his tactics in his own coaching.  We touch on some of the stats with his 903 wins and even talk about some other greats we have had the honor of watching.Oh Paul Pierce.  This guy was having a night over the weekend and ESPN fired him for it.  Find out what he was doing on his Instagram Live video feed.  Note to self...keep your phone off when drinking or smoking. Not much of a NCAA Mens Tournament Championship.  Baylor showed up and showed up big.  Gonzaga looked like a JV basketball team out there.  Great story for Jrue Holiday and his family as he get a sweet contract extension with the Bucks. He and his family have been through a lot and he is a deserving person to get this. We announce some sweet Red Sox uniforms honoring the Boston Marathon.  They are so sweet that Running Man Joe already went out and bought one.  Kellin thinks the colors are sexy so you know they are good.We have yet another crazy stat for everyone that involves Villanova.  It is actually quite incredible and could help you with betting on the Tournament next year. And then we had the big, not so big, news that Sam Darnold got traded to Carolina.  We wonder again what they will now do with Bridgewater and some possible moves the Pats can now make with this development. As always, live coverage of the Celtics game...went better than some but these guys are still not showing much potential.Find out how Kellin did on his beer escapade!! Enjoy the show!!

April 1st is April Fools Day, and it’s supposed to be a day light on actual news. Well, there was a ton of news that dropped, so the DBR Podcast crew jumped on to talk about the coaching news on Episode 302. The episode was recorded about 15 minutes before DJ Steward announced he was leaving the Duke Blue Devils to enter the NBA Draft, so there will be more analysis of that news this weekend. First, we start with the news that Nate James is set to leave Duke to take over the head coaching job with the Austin Peay Governors. We discuss what this means for Duke and who will possibly fill his spot as an assistant head coach on Coach K’s staff. Could it be Nolan Smith getting a promotion, Steve Wojciechowski returning to his alma mater, or could someone else be waiting in the wings? After the break, the big national news was that Roy Williams retired as the head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels. We discuss what it means for UNC, for the rivalry, and for college basketball. Who is primed to take one of the most important jobs in college basketball? Duke content is coming fast, everyone! Subscribe so you don’t miss all of the action! Learn more about your ad choices. The Sweet 16 is set in the NCAA Tournament, and the DBR Podcast is here to recap how we got there on Episode 298! We discuss some of the teams that surprised in getting to the Sweet 16, including Loyola Chicago Ramblers, the UCLA Bruins, and the Syracuse Orange. The Midwest Region is especially open, and we reflect on some of the teams that have made it to the second weekend. The ACC, who everyone said was down this year, got 2 teams into the Sweet 16, while the highly regarded Big Ten only has 1 team remaining. We also discuss the Illinois Fighting Illini and debate whether playing Loyola Chicago may have been unfair for the #1 seed. After the break, it’s recruiting season...but for transfers! The transfer portal is wild so far this offseason, and we discuss the North Carolina Tar Heels losing Walker Kessler (and possibly a few others) and what it means for Roy Williams’ squad. The Duke Blue Devils have escaped the transfer carousel thus far, but we know we could be active participants on the transfer market this offseason. Saturday is almost here! The Duke Blue Devils are set to take on the North Carolina Tar Heels in the 2nd matchup between the two rivals this season. Episode 290 is here to preview everything you need to know about it. We begin by recapping Coach K’s press conference from earlier Thursday, where his comments focused on the battle of the big men. Neutralizing UNC’s big men will be a big task for Mark Williams, Matthew Hurt, and even Jaemyn Brakefield. Then, we get into the analysis of the Tar Heels, keying in on the advanced metrics, the players to watch, and what Duke needs to do to beat them. A win could mean the difference between Duke beginning the ACC Tournament on Tuesday or Wednesday. A deep run in the ACC Tournament will be needed to reach the NCAA Tournament, but beating the Heels will help in how deep that run has to be. Finally, we close with a quick glimpse down memory lane on Jay Williams and how he decided to return to Duke for his junior year. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
