** KEEP IN MIND: While Allison is a Christian, the book she collaborated in is not distinctly Christian. This podcast is not necessarily an endorsement of the book, nor its philosophies. This is a podcast about another mom in the trenches who has a bit of extraordinary in her ordinary life. Packed with true stories of embracing womanhood, accompanied with food science, approachable mindfulness and fitness practices, and super yummy recipes, it's no wonder that it's getting terrific reviews internationally! With recipes, nutritional science, and advice, learn from many perspectives. The contributing authors are retired nurses, nutritionists, biology majors, personal trainers, and every day women (www.allisonmarschean.com)." I recently read an ingenious idea. One mom was in a dark parenting rut, as she describes it. She realized that she was actually bullying her kids. She started to give physical reminders that kindness, patience, and gentleness are what she's aiming for. {Day 8} My Prayer today for my kids: Ephesians 1:16-23 I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way (NIV). {Day 9} Some friends and I were discussing how we, as moms, take our children's misbehavior personally. We internalize it. Do you do that? Do you feel like your children's misbehavior is a reflection of you and your parenting? {DAY 10} How often have you said, "JUST DO IT!" to your kids? Whether they're dilly-dallying, outright defying you, or getting distracted (that happens A LOT in our home!), you need something done either for your good or theirs, and yet, they just can't seem to get it done. "Just do it!" we say exasperatedly. "How hard is it?" we ask because we just can't understand how they can't finish something SO SIMPLE. Normally, it would take them a fraction of the time it is taking them. Do we forget that we do the exact same thing? Access the Non-Committal Girl's Guide to Teaching Your Kids How to Study the Bible: Take the Terror out of Training the Next Generation of Disciples.

Did God know what He was doing when He gave me my children? Would another mother have suited them better? Have you ever felt any of those things? Be honest! {Day 3} If God is enough, am I desperate enough for Him? {DAY 4} Today I want to focus on one verse and look at a bunch of translations. These are taken from Bible Gateway. I want the words that come out of my mouth to be fitly spoken, spoken at the right time, and appropriately spoken. Today I'm focusing on Proverbs 25:11. One daughter knows deep down that her only choice, for the sake of Christ, is forgiveness—but how? Adult children of alcoholics and addicts live caged in guilt, shame, depression, and other self-destructive thought patterns. Transcript: 40-Day Child Discipline Challenge Perfectionism - the right way: “‘Make no mistake,’ He says, ‘if you let me, I will make you perfect. The moment you put yourself in My hands, that is what you are in for. Nothing less, or other than that. You have free will, and if you choose, you can push Me away. But if you do not push Me away, understand that I am going to see this job through. Whatever suffering it may cost you in your earthly life, whatever inconceivable purification it may cost you after death, whatever it costs Me, I will never rest, nor let you rest, until you are literally perfect – until my Father can say without reservation that He is well pleased with you, as He said He was well pleased with me. This I can do and will do. But I will not do anything less’…And He knows perfectly well that your own efforts are never going to bring you anywhere near perfection. On the other hand, you must realize from the outset that the goal towards which he is beginning to guide you is absolute perfection; and no power in the whole universe, except you yourself, can prevent Him from taking you to that goal.” — C.S. Lewis Mere Christianity (affiliate link) Smart Money, Smart Kids (affiliate link) Love and Logic (affiliate link) How does one practice godly discipline? I was expecting Him to provide some strategy for discipline that would finally work wonders for all three children. I needed new tips. God didn't provide new tips. He provided a new way of thinking. Transcript: The Importance of Keeping Your Word With Your Children Have you ever said any of these phrases to your kids? Just a minute. I'll be right there. Give me five minutes. I'll be there in a sec. Just let me finish this one thing. Then what happens? Inevitably, time gets away from you and you are much later in getting back with them than the minute, five minutes, second, or "1-task-completion" you've promised. What does this communicate to my kids? They're not a priority. They're unimportant. I am not a woman of integrity. My word is untrustworthy. I care more about tasks than people. I am selfish. I don't care about what they have to say. I could go on, but it just makes me sadder, so I'll stop. SUGGESTION: Check out the blog post, 4 Ways Women Tear Down Their Homes and Strategies to Build Them Back Up. SUGGESTION: Read Charles Wesley Naylor's full article, What is Your Word Worth? We lose influence with them if we are not women of our word. They will choose to listen to someone else, and sadly, most listen to culture and peers who aren't the "iron sharpening iron" type. If we want to impact our children we have to realize that the impact is related to the influence, and the influence is based on trust, and all of it is directly related to what comes out of our mouths. SUGGESTION: Read this brief article by Michael Hyatt, Keeping Your Word. If you liked this podcast or others, please hop on over to iTunes and leave us a review. We would really appreciate it!! Questions to consider: Does the Word of God actually take root in my life or am I so superficial that when I read Scriptures, I never give it the time or attention to cultivate it and let it bury deep down within my soul?
