Teila Verch Dywenys is a traditional witch and founder of The Cleaner Clootie Campaign, set up in 2018 in response to the growing proliferation of plastic objects left as offerings at her nearest Henge at Knowlton Grange in Dorset. Witnessing first hand how this trend has proliferated widely outside the Pagan Community (fuelled by social media and a disconnection from the original practice of clootie hanging) her aim is to realign the ancient tradition once more within its environmentally reverent origins by educating and by example ~ through the physical clearing  of clootie impacted sites and by offering practical sustainable alternatives to plastic or permanent clooties.   Teila takes us through her extraordinary  experiences with the fae on the land where she lives and her work with the Dark Man and Dark Mother. In the Plus show she explains how she experiences the Dark Man energy and we get into what its like to ridden by this energy. How we are pushed to the side sometimes for something else to come through be that art, music or something magical. They visit the Munlochy Clootie Well, one of the largest of its kind in Scotland and unpick it’s pagan and Christian past, while also looking at the continuation of age-old traditions in the modern-day. Many wells are believed to have magical properties and what better way to explore these than with a witch trial! A fairy well on Arthurs’s seat in Edinburgh healed many but ended in the death of one unfortunate woman accused of witchcraft. Annie and Jenny explore what wells can tell us about Scottish culture throughout time. Listen in to find out more about both these wells and as well as Annie’s favorite well, The Burghead Well, and Jenny’s favourite well, The Cheese Well.

Jack Crandall – Brett Randy Anders – Kurt Erin Shaughnessy – John GM – Neil With the impending dinner with Hamish and Mrs. Garrison looming, Jack decides he’d rather brave the elements and patrol the town. He tells Randy and Erin and they agree to break up the night into 4 hours shifts. As Jack heads out Erin calls his mom and he and Randy start a game of Carcasone. When they come down for dinner, Old Hamish is already 3 sheets to the wind and Erin begins to question his life choices. Dinner is awkward and afterwards Randy and Erin offer to do the dishes while Hamish and Mrs. Garrison play chess in front of the fireplace. Jack is down by the beach, dragging around the mirror they bought when the deputy sheriff pulls up. Jack concocts a story about being into amateur astronomy and chats up the officer. He goes to his signature move and asks the deputy if he’s a wrestling fan and tells him that he is in fact Bandana Jack. The deputy takes a bunch of pictures and drives off happy and the rest of Jacks shift is uneventful. He comes back for dinner and Randy heads out into the cold, dark night. https://www.birdscoffeecompany.com/coffees/legends-of-tabletop-legendary-brew Use Code Legends10 to get 10% off your order Theme music created by Brett Miller http://www.brettmillermusic.net/

Jack “breaks the news” to Mrs. Garrison but she seems up for it and plans out a big dinner. When Jack and Erin head back up to the room Randy is frustrated. He tells them that the only thing Lady Branwynn knows will work to destroy the clootie is the ritual sacrifice. What’s worse is, she believes that when the clootie is in mortal danger it can turn itself back into water. Jack Crandall – Brett Randy Anders – Kurt Erin Shaughnessy – John GM – Neil The guys decide to hangout in the truck for a while to see if the clootie makes a reappearance. After an hour or so of planning and waiting they head back to the bed and breakfast. Erin drops a postcard for Edward and heads to bed. Jack has Erin and Randy up bright and early and Randy is a little salty during breakfast. Mrs. Garrison brings over Edward’s return post card which states that a package is on the way. Randy stays at the hotel to do research while Jack and Erin head over to the general store for clootie hunting supplies. Too late they realize that all of the things they bought kind of look like a murder kit. The young clerk is justifiably concerned and starts to get antsy. Erin tries to play the Ghostfacers card while Jack goes right to his wrestling background. The kid is nonplussed by the whole thing and Jack asks for the manager. Erin decides to push his luck and plays the sisterite video for the manager. Predictably he looses his shit and is convinced that the monster, supposedly in town, is real. A phone tree gets started and there is much wailing and gnashing of teeth. Beating a hasty retreat, Jack and Erin head to the beach to see if anything weird stands out. Meanwhile Randy is studiously researching for anything he can find related to the clootie. They are part of Scottish mythology, possibly the souls of drown sailors or old people who have passed that wish to look again at the living. No one is really sure what they are. He does find a poem written by AP Morgan Blunket that maybe in reference to the clootie: “I cannot sleep, I hide my face from surf and swell and blow, since I’ve seen the queer gray men that nightly come and go. The village squats in sodden dusk with sea mist draped and drear and I the wave, I the waves come rushing far and near. With every door is locked and barred and every curtain drawn, ‘tis then they come unseen but heard. Forsook, forgotten, forlorn the old know better than to look, the young are fast to bed. But I with lonely cynics pride and science in my head, I looked. I shall not look again, for yet I have seen them pass. The hollow faces of the drowned in the mist beyond the glass.” Mrs. Garrison knocks on Randy’s door and tells him that Sheriff McElroy is there to see him. Concerned and confused Randy heads down to the lobby where the sheriff begins to question him about the phone tree and reports of a monster in town. At that time Erin and Jack show up at the bed and breakfast. Erin tries to smooth things over as best as he can and agrees not to talk about monsters. When the sheriff leaves he apologizes to Mrs. Garrison for the inconvenience and asks if she could recommend a boat captain. She makes a call for them to Captain Olmstead and they head off to the pier. https://www.birdscoffeecompany.com/coffees/legends-of-tabletop-legendary-brew Use Code Legends10 to get 10% off your order Theme music created by Brett Miller http://www.brettmillermusic.net/

Jack Crandall – Brett Randy Anders – Kurt Erin Shaughnessy – John GM – Neil The sound of laughter and music is cut off as the door to the pub closes. Jack, Randy and Erin begin their short walk back the bed and breakfast through the fog rolling in off the bay. Over the gentle sound of the waves and the crunching of gravel under their feet, comes an ethereal moaning sound, low and sorrowful. Erin casts about looking for a weapon and finds a length of lead pipe while Randy turns on the camera. The moaning gets louder, moving in from the bay. Jack grabs up two fistfuls of sand and they move out trying to catch sight of their quarry. They spy a humanoid figure shambling up from the beach heading towards town. Jack suggests following it, so they cautiously begin to tail the eerie form. The figure wanders the streets moaning and when the pub owner steps out locking his door for the night the creature begins moving in his direction. Randy yells, “Hey Asshole!” and the man is clearly confused as the form in front of him doesn’t seem to be that agitated. Then Jack yells at him to get back inside. Discretion being the better part of valor the pub owner quickly heads back inside and the creature turns to look at Jack, Erin and Randy. They begin to argue, ever more loudly, about what they should do next when the creature begins moving in their direction. They start running towards the beach in fits and starts, trying to keep the creature’s attention. While they’re running Erin suggests running it over with the truck so they head towards the store. Jack splits off and starts up the truck while Randy and Erin continue kiting it along. Jack slams into the creature and it explodes sending water everywhere. As the truck rolls to a stop, Randy and Erin investigate the scene. There’s no clootie plastered to the front of the truck but Randy notices a concentration of water that looks like it’s actively moving towards the bay, T2 style. They try attacking it with road flares from the truck but it doesn’t really work and the disembodied water makes it’s way back to the sea. They decide to sit in the truck for an hour or so to see if the clootie comes back and begin making plans. https://www.birdscoffeecompany.com/coffees/legends-of-tabletop-legendary-brew Use Code Legends10 to get 10% off your order Theme music created by Brett Miller http://www.brettmillermusic.net/

Jack Crandall – Brett Randy Anders – Kurt Erin Shaughnessy – John GM – Neil With nothing but time on their hands Erin does some research on his phone. Initially he doesn’t find anything about Mary’s Harbor, besides the murder, but as he changes tactics to looking into legends he scores. There are some legends in Scotland, England and Ireland about a creature with hooks for hands that goes about the streets moaning and wailing that drags people into the sea. Many miles, many hours and many McRibs later they arrive at Mary’s Harbor. Jack backs the truck up to the large general store and then deals with the manifest. Once everything is sorted he chats up Tom, one of the guys unloading the truck.   Tom tells them that at least 4 people have drown, a teenage girl, the old lady who owed the antique store, an accountant and the mayor’s son. They head over to the diner and begin to make plans. Afterwards they head over to the bed and breakfast, The Harbor Inn run by Mrs. Garrison. The Inn is empty since it’s late in the year so the guys get 3 separate rooms. Jack heads off to take a nap while Randy and Erin play a game of Carcassone. Jack apparently doesn’t sleep very well because when he gets up and finds Randy and Erin he flips the board prematurely ending their game. Erin petulantly picks up and counts all the pieces before they head over to the pub for dinner. While at the pub they talk to old Shamus, the towns resident “kook”. He tells about a creature called the Clootie, which eerily mirrors the information that Erin turned up while researching during the ride. https://www.birdscoffeecompany.com/coffees/legends-of-tabletop-legendary-brew Use Code Legends10 to get 10% off your order Theme music created by Brett Miller http://www.brettmillermusic.net/
