Over drinks, Berly and LA chat with actor, writer, and producer, Austin Basis, about his experience on the set of Supernatural and the 2010 web series spinoff, Ghostfacers. Austin is also a celebrity ambassador for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and currently fundraising for their annual One Walk. Find more information at https://shorturl.at/mrGLT. Thank you to Austin for this discussion. Now, let's get tipsy! CW/TW for violent and lewd commentary; listeners beware!
It's another one of those episodes I always used to forget existed until it came back around on the loop again. Yeah, we get some weird Bucklemming-flavored ghost lore, but it proves at least interesting in context with Bobby's ghost. Because we also finally get to see Bobby's ghost again, right along with Sam and Dean, with the reminder of the mytharc happening elsewhere feels like a throaway line in this episode. But this one is worth watching, and we can find enjoyment, especially in meeting the hunter Annie, and reuniting with Bobby. Because after this week we'll run headlong into a cascade of mytharc leading up to the season finale. We can enjoy one last little deviation from that plot. LINKS! The Superwiki page My tag Also, I've finally started importing all my past scripts into Ao3, in case anyone is interested in reading them. Partial notes/intro scripts begin with 3.13 Ghostfacers, and full scripts begin with Chapter 82, Episode 138 - 7.12 Time After Time. I'll be adding scripts weekly when podcast episodes drop, since now that I write them out in full, they might actually be interesting to read. Maybe. Join Ollie and Klaudia as they regale us with tales of Supernatural S3E12: "Jus In Bello" and S3E13: "Ghostfacers." Points of Interest: Union strikes create more Supernatural, Jensen is somehow the least problematic cast member, Dean's year of nihilism, a failed language lesson, Hannigram Destiel AU, Dean can survive anything (except for a rusty nail), Sam's 5-Minute Crafts era, not a deMAN - a deHER, Dean is Christian-shaming, one of Supernatural's many GLAAD nominations, the Ghostfacers walked so BuzzFeed Unsolved could run, unintentional Destiel foreshadowing, and the best line ever spoken on a television show. ---Follow us:@MysterySpotcast on Tiktok / Twitter / Instagram / Tumblr---Contact us:- send us a question to our TikTok Q&A or Tumblr ask box- email us at themysteryspotcast@gmail.com
We were offered ice cream to not cover this episode and leave right now, but here we are. KJ, Meredith, Beth (Raising Perdition), and Out (Divergent Canon) discuss the Ghostfacers' Effect, swearing in Supernatural, and the effects of time on this iconic episode of retro-TV-series-Supernatural.CW Episode Description: Sam and Dean take a break from their usual gig to star in a gritty reality show called "Ghostfacers" which chronicles the pursuit of the paranormal. Ed Zeddmore (guest star A. J. Buckley) and Harry Spengler (guest star Travis Wester) have created a radically different and sometimes violent show full of profanity that takes them to the Morton Mansion, an abandoned estate which becomes one of the most haunted places in America one night every four years. However, as their team begins to get picked off in grisly manners not fit for television, they realize they are in over their heads.Tumblr post on The Ghostfacers' Effect: https://www.tumblr.com/idiot-on-the-hill/659987336647655424/what-is-the-ghostfacers-effectLinktree including sign up sheet to be on the podcast and our Discord server: https://linktr.ee/SupernaturalOpinionsPodcastFor more KJ Spn-verse content check out KJ's other podcast Wayward Parents!Guest social medias:Meredith (tiktok, instagram and Tumblr): shaedsofdeianeiraBeth: bethlovescas on all platformsRaising Perdition Podcast: https://linktr.ee/raisingperditionOut: @OutHereNowfic on twitterCanon Divergent Podcast: @divergentcanon on twitter

The Ghostfacers are back, but they are definitely not better than ever as they are dealing with trust issues much like Sam and Dean. It's not subtle. If the 'Facers are back then so is Joe as we discuss terrible survival instincts, the petty-off taking place, and we spend too much time looking into how many trees make the woods. Gosh I love this episode. It throws the viewer off balance wondering what the heck is actually going on, right up to the end when Zachariah boops Dean and all the rest of us back to “reality” and washes the bright colors away again. The real hunt/case of this episode isn't the ghost Sam and Dean learn to deal with, it's whatever the heck Zachariah's actually up to with the entire charade. And what that boils down to is the concentrated essence of manipulation by cosmic forces that is s4. And all that ONE EPISODE BEFORE we meet Chuck for the first time... but we'll save that rant for next week. There's some pretty detailed meta on this week's episode, though, and I'll again encourage everyone to at least give a skim to those links... all the links of interest can be found right here: The Superwiki page for the episode My tag for the episode, it's only four pages and about half gifsets, but all the meta posts are worth it The blue revisions script with a special extra: the director's hand written notes The full Ghostfacers instructional video on youtube The CW promo video for the episode An interview with AJ Buckley (aka Ed Zeddmore) from around the time this episode aired --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/spngeorg/support

A little meta statement on the Writer's Strike and a genre shift from the Reality TV format back into the standard scripted drama of the overarching Supernatural narrative. Sam and Dean actually curse! The Ghostfacers think what they're experiencing is “reality,” but from our perspective already entrenched in the Supernatural world of Sam and Dean, we can see how little they really understand about the supernatural they're merely attempting to prove the existence of. It's wonderfully refreshing, also, that even after all their experiences over the course of the episode, they're still able to return to their relatively normal lives while Sam and Dean are off to battle apocalypses... well everyone except Corbett, I guess... Poor guy. He just wanted to be loved

Pranks can go horribly, terribly wrong, and sometimes they can go so awry they can unwittingly alter reality. What was likely intended to be a fun MotW episode at the time really does explore a lot of deeper themes about how the story can be made real just by the power of belief. We also get to gently poke fun at some of the earlier episodes and the frequently bumbling approach of Sam and Dean as they began to feel their way through hunting on their own through Sam and Dean's reactions to Ed and Harry. They might not yet call themselves Ghostfacers, but their complete ignorance of the Supernatural despite declaring themselves “professional” investigators help us understand just how naive most of humanity really is to what's actually out there. And it's a dang good thing we've been on this ride with Sam and Dean all this time and can laugh and be frustrated right along with them. :'D Things referenced in this episode: The Superwiki page for this episode My tag for this episode And this glorious, hilarious shot of the exterior of their Texas Motel Room. Seriously, if these guys were staring at you every time you walked up to your room, how comfy would you feel staying here? On this episode of ActorSpeak, Austin Basis speaks with actor Brittany Ishibashi (Runaways, Supernatural, The Office, This Is Us, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows). In Part 1, we talk about seeing RENT, her life-changing car accident, Richard Green, Joan Scheckel, GHOSTFACERS, and how she uses music to inform her work. The amazingly talented Brittany Ishibashi most recently starred as the villainous Tina Minoru in Marvel's hit show Runaways on Hulu, and as Tamiko Masuda on CBS' Hawaii Five-0. She also played another iconic villain, Karai, in Paramount's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. Born in Orange County, CA, Brittany was raised in a home filled with the arts. Brittany discovered her passion for musical theater at a young age, and went on to be a triple threat- excelling in dance, music & acting. She continued her formal education at UCLA's prestigious School of Theatre, Film & Television, while building her acting resume outside of class. Her first big break came right after she graduated from high school & was cast by J.J. Abrams on the hit show Felicity. Brittany has gone on to work consistently over the years on numerous television series, including: This Is Us, The Unicorn, Political Animals, The Office, Grey's Anatomy, Grace and Frankie, Young and Hungry, and Supernatural. After an exciting debut at Comic-Con, she reprised her role as Maggie Zeddmore in the Supernatural spinoff series GHOSTFACERS- which has developed a worldwide fan base. Brittany's energy, spirit & talent comes through in everything she does. This was especially true when she brought her dramatic chops to my short film The Fear We Share & blew everyone away with her stirring performance. She is a talented friend who provides a solid laugh track whenever we get together!
