Greeting's heathens and witches, Welcome to the Horn and Cauldron podcast… Samhain is third and final harvest festival, which takes place on the October 31 (April 30 southern hemisphere), which is about halfway between the autumn equinox and the winter solstice. It's a time for mute dinners, dumb suppers, costumes, trick or treating, jack-o-lanterns, divination, bonfires, and all that fun Halloween stuff. When you think of Halloween or Samhain you probably think of the full moon at night. The moon has been of the more romanticized and popular focal points for magic throughout time. It waxes and wanes, sometimes disappearing entirely. Furthermore, sometimes it's out during the day! In this episode, we'll be discussing the magical properties of the moon, its cycles, and how you can use them in your practice. We also provide correspondences, discuss our experiences with lunar magic, and go on some fun tangents! Greeting's heathens and witches,Welcome to the Horn and Cauldron podcast…Mabon takes place on the Autumnal Equinox, when day and night are equal. Created in the late 1900s, Mabon is a newer festival, but cultures throughout the world have been celebrating the Autumn Equinox for thousands of years. It's a time of sharing and giving thanks, transition, preparing for winter, reflection, balance, and of course… feasting! Since Mabon is all about finding a balance, this is a great time to talk about grounding. Grounding (AKA earthing, rooting, or raising energy) helps us balance ourselves, like the idea of “go out and touch grass.” Grounding can help reduce stress and improve mental focus, as well as replenishing and casting off our own magical energy. So, hang out with us while we talk all about grounding and our personal experiences with it! Greeting's heathens and witches, Welcome to Pub Chat! These episodes are for us to have a more free-form way to discuss listener questions, shorter subjects, as well as magical happenings, musings, and of course, go off on tangents. In this week's Pub Chat we explore Dark Religious Parasitism. The idea that there is a malicious entity negatively affecting people and their relationship to their deities and practices. So grab yourself something to drink and join us for a strange conversation about a relatively novel interpretation of what is happening these days. Ohh, and fear not, there is much vamping and many side quests! Definition: The noticeable shift in an organized religion from its patron's doctrine to ones of hate utilizing misinformation and manipulation of teachings, selective following focusing solely on the out of context misinterpretations of select passages to reinforce hateful rhetoric, and/or the complete abandonment of key tenets if or when they oppose the new regimes focus of hate. These are additionally supported by otherness speech meant to segregate those who disagree or question the new regime, opportunistic practice where one applies the tenets of their faith to only a select group or at socially opportune times to hide or coverup hateful practices behind “goodness”, coded language to communicate and spread in group think, and outright lying publicly and to the self in order to not address or internalize the new regime of hate! The contagious spread of these parasitic creatures follow a spiraling path in both individual and group infection starting with small changes and spreading to ever greater hate. These creatures feed off not only the worship and faith energy of the newly infected followers but also of the spreading destruction of the original deities' tenets and teachings like an insect bite that liquifies its victim for easier consumption. ===== Social Links =====Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/NerdJiveWebsite: https://www.nerdjive.com/Etsy Shop: https://norgroveenterprises.etsy.com Jon's Social:TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@NerdJiveInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/NerdJiveTwitter: https://twitter.com/NerdJiveFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/NerdJive Julie's Social:TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@goddessjulessInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/goddessjules/Twitter: https://twitter.com/goddessjuless
Greeting's heathens and witches,Welcome to the Horn and Cauldron podcast…Astrology is quite old, with the first records of its practice going all the way back to ancient times. It was originally used to help predict agricultural patterns and the weather. Over time, it was used for other purposes and was a part of everyday life for centuries. Even still, what we think of as astrology—sun sign horoscopes—wasn't popularized until the early 1900s. In this episode, we talk about western astrology basics: the planets, the houses, and the signs. We discuss aspects of our personal charts, ways you can analyze your chart, where magic lives in your chart, and a healthy dose of getting into the weeds! You may want to pull up or create your own birth (natal) chart so you can follow along! To do that, you'll want to go to an astrology website or app to make one. You'll need your date of birth, location of birth, and time of birth (as close as possible, if you don't know the exact time). Greeting's heathens and witches,Welcome to the Horn and Cauldron podcast…Deity worship was a crucial part of everyday life in ancient Egypt, and we know of more than 1,500 gods by name. With the exception of the reign of Akhenaten (17 years, in 14th c BCE), the Egyptians were a polytheistic religion. Today, we know the Egyptian deities by their ancient Greek names, and we'll be talking about Amun, Ra, Horus, Hathor, Sekhmet, Maat, Osiris, Isis, Set, Bastet, Anubis, Ptah, and Thoth. Greeting's heathens and witches,Welcome to the Horn and Cauldron podcast…One of the Anunnaki, Enki is the Sumerian god of water, knowledge, crafts, and keeper of the divine powers called Me. Enki is a complicated and many faceted god, and as patron god of one of the oldest temples in one of the world's oldest cities, many of the themes associated with him echo through time, mythology, and religion. In this episode, we discuss Enki's iconography, family, and his temple. We also talk about the ways you can work with Enki and what his energy is like, share our personal takes, and experiences with him and the idea of leaving offerings. We also read an excerpt of one of Enki's primary myths, “Enki and the World Order.” Note: In this episode, we mention @miniminuteman's videos about Ur. We were incorrect—he does not visit Ur in these videos, but he does visit several sites in southern Turkey, some of which are even older than Ur. It's also the season most associated with snow and ice. For this year's 104 series, we're delving into elemental magic, and what better way to start with snow and ice magic! While technically a subset of water magic, snow and ice have unique properties and spells that make the great to add to your spell repertoire. We also discuss ways to honor the season of Yule, extending that holiday feeling all the way through Imbolc. There's deities associated with snow and ice, too. Of course, we round out the episode by talking about how we celebrate Yule. Greeting's heathens and witches,Welcome to the Horn and Cauldron podcast… Cursing and hexing is a controversial subject within the pagan community. The whole idea around curses being evil or giving you bad luck is not as deeply rooted in magical practice as you might think, especially in ancient times. In this episode, we explore the concept of the Three-fold Law, and the phrase "An it harm none, do what ye will" and how they came to be, and the division of ‘High' or ‘White' magic and ‘Low' or ‘Black' magic. We go over several ancient curses, from a variety of sources—some of which dating back thousands of years! As usual, we spend a bit of time talking about our own experiences and preferences with curses and hexes. So, we recently watched an interview with Guillermo del Toro and Mike Flanagan where this question was posed and couldn't help but explore this idea as a novel approach to self-analysis and a fun way to celebrate the spooky season.

Welcome to the Horn and Cauldron podcast…Mabon, which takes place on the Autumnal Equinox, is about balance and gratitude. I like to think of the modern witchcraft sabbats, and the Norse blots as ways to honor, explore, experience, and add magic to the seasons as they pass by. There's nothing wrong with having a favorite season, but have you considered finding joy in each season as you experience it? We've often talk about how moving to a small cabin in the woods at the edge of civilization has taught us how to understand and live with the change in seasons. Not everyone has the ability or desire to live in a cabin at the edge of the woods, dispensing wisdom and the occasional potion to visitors and passersby, but you can find your own way to live with the seasons, even if you generally hate the cold of winter, or the heat of summer. In this episode, we go over the mundane and magical ways you can incorporate seasonal harmony into your routine. We also talk about the ways that living in harmony with the seasons has helped us, and how we incorporate it in our lives.
