What better way to end ROH 2002 than with the first face we saw at the very first show? One half of Da Hit Squad, Steve "Monsta" Mack joins me on this episode to recap Ring of Honor's biggest show of the year, Final Battle! Colt Cabana and CM Punk have another great match, Xavier has the best showing of his career against Paul London, and we get a star-studded main event four-way. But this episode has so much more than a recap of a show. Mack takes us through that first year of Ring of Honor, and we talk about what made ROH so special, how it set the tone for companies like AEW, and how to tell Mack and Mafia apart. This episode is filled with laugh, emotion, and so many great stories and insight. This is a blast, folks. Back in the day when ROH was young, it wasn't exactly...politically correct...to say the least. It felt like a product of its time, spawned in the wake of ECW and the Attitude Era, but with much better wrestling than what was available on our TVs....right?? Well, join Jeff & Shane as they travel back to 2002 and revisit "A Night of Appreciation" so as to see if it truly is a case of "better in our memories"! It's Eddy Guerrero's farewell to ROH as the WWE Intercontinental Champion, it's Danielson vs. Spanky, Spanky vs. Michael Shane, Low Ki vs. AJ Styles, and that's just the sexy stuff. It's also Da Hit Squad not being used to their potential, Elax, beeyotches & high flyers, and most heinously it is the era of Donnie B! Monsta Mack was one of the first men to sign on to Ring of Honor in 2002; he was part of the very first segment fans saw live, and on the VHS as well. As one-half of Da Hit Squad, along with Mafia, Mack played a huge role in establishing the foundation for ROH during the that first year. He set the tone for the hard-hitting, Japanese influenced style (along with his fellow Homicide-trained brethren), stood as defenders of the Code of Honor, and should have been something bigger when it came to that nascent tag title scene. So why wasn't he? Why did it just seem to abruptly end in early 2003? Those answers and more are unveiled as Monsta Mack joins An Honorable Mention for one in-depth conversation on his ROH career!Topics include the early East Coast indy scene trend setter, Jersey All Pro Wrestling, how he first found out about ROH, his reflections on the tag title tournament at Unscripted & what happened with The Natural Born Sinners that night(the answer to where was Homicide, REVEALED!), working Scramble Matches with The SAT & Special K, plenty of Low Ki and Homicide stories from behind the scenes & discussion on the reputations they have built up. We also dive deep into the long thread of how & why it all ended for for Monsta Mack in ROH. Plus Monsta Mack's thoughts on how Ring of Honor should recognize its roots in Madison Square Garden & why he's ok with the very first segment from an Era of Honor Begins being left off the Honor Club.Join Jeff & Shane as they take a tour through the early days of Ring of Honor with a jovial and personable man who experienced Ring of Honor from the inception!-=-=-=-=-=-An Honorable Mention Podcast is hosted by Jeff Schwartz & Shane Hagadorn every Tuesday on the Creative Control Network.
