In the spring of 2014, Erik Swoope '10 laced up his cleats for the first day of rookie camp with the Indianapolis Colts. While the NFL is a rare destination for any aspiring professional athlete, this was especially unusual for Erik. Erik Swoope never played college football, nor high school football, nor youth football--nor had he watched the Super Bowl in more than a decade. Yet somehow, Erik made the practice squad--and then the real squad, spending the next several years catching touchdown passes from Andrew Luck as an NFL tight end. In this episode, Erik tells his story, from growing up in Lake Elsinore and playing AAU basketball, to finding Harvard-Westlake and University of Miami, to then converting his ACC basketball skills to the route-running and pass-catching of the NFL. Through it all, however, Erik has found success by conveying both the inner confidence to pursue new challenges and the humility to seek wisdom and guidance from others. Among the many figures Erik cites as profound mentors are Jon Wimbish and Greg Hilliard of Harvard-Westlake, Jim Larrañaga of University of Miami, and Rob Chudzinski, Jimmy Graham, Jack Doyle, Reggie Wayne, and Andrew Luck of the National Football League.

What makes the best the best? Ultimately the best are where they are because of the mindset, habits, and rituals they have—both in their respective “arenas,” but also in private, during the unseen hours. Success isn't something that happens to you. It's something you attract and you create. Successful people do the little things better than everyone else because they know all the big things arise from them. The highest performers in all walks of life have taken full ownership. They got to where they are and have stayed there because they have chosen to establish, tweak and repeat positive habits. They understand that you can't be selective when it comes to excellence, that how we do anything is how we do everything.Sustain Your Game teaches you how to bring your A game to every area of your life. With advice from top CEOs, journalists, social scientists, and more, you'll learn the framework for how to beat stress, stagnation, and burnout.

As the Indianapolis Colts prepare for their Week 3 matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles the personnel availability for both teams is not pretty. Each squad faces a loss of multiple heavy contributors, which ironically also will feature the return of Carson Wentz for his 2018 debut. The Colts won't have Jack Doyle, Anthony Castonzo or Marlon Mack against a very stout Philly front seven, but the Eagles' backfield is coming in with a depleted backfield and receiver corps which may be a lot for Wentz to deal with in his first game back. Today we welcome Kevin Hickey (Colts Wire) to dive into what the Colts have left for them to throw at the Eagles on both sides of the ball, and Michael Kist (Bleeding Green Nation) joins in the second half of the show to take a look at the other side of the equation. The Colts certainly have their hands full this Sunday, and will likely see tight end Erik Swoope elevated to the active roster in place of Doyle, and we should expect Margus Hunt to pull double duty with, both, Denico Autry and Hassan Ridgeway already confirmed to be OUT in this one. Can the Colts defense find success by going after the Eagles' offensive strengths? Will Jim Schwartz be able to out scheme Frank Reich considering their familiarity with each other's respective tendencies? We look at all of these situations and much more in our Week 3 primer to get you all set for this weekend's game. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
On today's daily update, Matt Taylor talks with Erik Swoope regarding his first since the 2016 season. Also, Caroline Cann previews Sunday's matchup in Washington with Marlin Jackson.
Matt Taylor sat down with Tight End, Erik Swoope, to chat about getting back on the field after missing the entire 2017 season.
The running backs and tight ends for the Indianapolis Colts couldn’t be looked at more differently heading into the 2018 NFL season. The backfield looks to be almost completely composed of pieces with very little NFL experience while the tight ends have some established leadership from multiple veteran presences at the position, and have a nice mix of skill sets as well. Many are excited about both positions, recognizing that if the potential can be realized from both units, the offense could be quite a show this year. Jack Doyle and Eric Ebron will hold the most prominent roles among the tight ends, but Erik Swoope and Darrell Daniels have had some experience and adding Ross Travis to the mix makes for a very interesting training camp to see how the skill sets will mesh together. Nyheim Hines and Jordan Wilkins are adding a lot of intrigue to the Colts backfield which is currently believed to be led by second-year firecracker Marlon Mack. We don’t know yet about the future of Robert Turbin, but Christine Michael and Josh Ferguson will be in the mix this year as well. Any fan has to love the big-play ability with this group, but there are many aspects of the position that will require some real improvement in order for this year’s compilation to succeed.
