Tauntauns! We review The Mandalorian and Grogu Super Bowl ad and our switchboard is overflowing with your opinions and comments. The RFR audience has a lot to say about the "Big Game" commercial for the upcoming film. Maul: Shadow Lord is coming soon and will it feature the long-desired showdown between Darth Maul and Darth Vader? Is there a Star Wars/Avengers Marvel Comics crossover on the horizon? Plus, we review the all-new Marvel Comics Jar Jar book co-written by Ahmed Best and more.
Did your brand just spend $7 million on a 30-second ad that alienated or ignored half its potential audience? Agility requires a willingness to challenge long-held assumptions—like the idea that a celebrity and a massive budget are all you need for a winning Super Bowl ad. It demands that brands move from gut feelings to data-driven insights to understand what truly resonates with their audience. Today, we're going to talk about the biggest advertising event of the year: the Super Bowl. Millions of dollars are spent, careers are made, and brands have one 30-second shot to capture the zeitgeist. But beyond the spectacle and the morning-after buzz, what actually drives results? We'll dig into the data behind the ads, exploring which brands successfully connected with key audiences, what the data says about using celebrities, and how the smartest brands think about the Super Bowl not as a single event, but as a strategic play in a much larger game.To help me discuss this topic, I'd like to welcome, Nataly Kelly, CMO at Zappi. The Big Game in America happened and it was a Super Dud! More videogames are being turned into movies, which leads to Alex and Jakub discussing what games they think would work well as movies. Jakub has an update on the cyberpunk city of the future. Discord makes a bold choice and it instantly backfires. The older you get, the more you realize there are two sets of rules; rules for the rulemakers and the rules for everyone else. This week is an embarrassment of riches! The ‘Lympics (Amy's pronunciation) and “The Big Game” overlap this week, and the ladies are here for it. They are all over the athletes' fashion and swag, including Haiti's opening ceremony outfits, the USA ladies' eagle “blanket skirt”. Snoop is in the mix with his signature coverage of the games. Maya is obsessed with speed skater Erin Jackson. J.D. Vance gets booed. The Tongan greased-up guy is back, but unfortunately, he's dry and wearing a shirt. We're cheering for Korey and Cory, the curlers from Duluth! Amy thought the Quad God would have bigger quads. Lindsey Vonn crashes. ChatGPT helps Amy find a skiing outfit. Maya wants to watch The Cutting Edge again. IYKYK. Toe pick! Maya and Amy reminisce about 80s movies where an athletic underdog triumphs over poverty and local jerks. Amy gives a football update leading up to The Big Game. Maya mistakes fireworks from the Plymouth Fire & Ice Festival for combat noise. Maya and Amy imagine what kind of trouble they'll get into when they are 80 and live together.

In this episode, Rivers and Carter are joined at Disgraceland Studios by TWO of our all-time favorite guests, comedians Joe Kaye and Kelly McInerney! We kick this one off by chatting about "The Big Game" and, more importantly, the halftime show from Bad Bunny and the other halftime show by Kid Rock. Then, we chug a tangerine-flavored energy drink made by the Mexican juice company Jumex. That leads us down a weird rabbit hole into the wacky world of performance art. For years, Dan Bongino built a reputation around loud, emphatic promises that he possessed explosive knowledge about Jeffrey Epstein, repeatedly telling audiences that the truth would eventually come out and that he knew where the bodies were buried. He positioned himself as someone with insider awareness, hinting at catastrophic revelations and suggesting that accountability was imminent if only the public waited. These claims helped drive attention, engagement, and credibility among listeners who believed Bongino was uniquely informed and prepared to expose powerful figures tied to Epstein's crimes. In practice, however, those promises never materialized into concrete disclosures, documented evidence, or meaningful breakthroughs. Despite years of rhetoric, Bongino failed to deliver names, records, or verifiable reporting that advanced public understanding of the Epstein network beyond what was already known through court filings, investigative journalism, and victim testimony. As more primary documents have since emerged through litigation and records releases—without Bongino's involvement—his earlier bravado has aged poorly, exposing a gap between his public posture and actual results. What remains is a case study in performative outrage: big talk that generated attention, but ultimately produced no accountability, no new facts, and no tangible contribution to unraveling the Epstein operation.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.com

The boys break down the Big Game, but fair warning: they spend more time on Bad Bunny's celebrity filled halftime performance than the snoozer on the field. From there, they pivot to their latest favorite "old man sport": curling! They jabber about how it weirdly connects with their other favorite old man sport (golf) before inadvertently professing their love for unassuming Olympic hotties. Speaking of golf, AJ and the Iceman lament the rowdy crowds at golf's drunkest event, the Waste Management Phoenix Open... while simultaneously plotting to join them(?). There's also a lot of googling about Captain Planet. Throw on Varsity Blues in the background, and enjoy the chaos. PS. Schedule your colonoscopies.. or we'll do it for you.

On Valentine's Day 1983, two new, beautiful sister ships, the Americus and the Altair sank in the Bering Sea in calm water while on their way to the king crab grounds near the Pribilof Islands. Fourteen men lost their lives in the worst disaster in the history of U.S. commercial fishing. A massive investigation ensued to determine what happened to the boats and what could be done to make commercial fishing safer. Those lost: The Americus: George Nations Brent Boles Larry Littlefield Rich Awes Victor Bass Jeff Nations Paul Northcutt The Altair: Ronald Beirnes Jeff Martin Lark Breckenridge Troy Gudbranson Randy Harvey Brad Melvin Tony Vienhage Sources: Much of this episode is based on the book Lost At Sea by Patrick Dillon. I've read this book three times, and I highly recommend it. Dillon extensively researched the losses of the Americus and Altair. He talked to fishermen, families of those lost, investigators, marine architects, and many other experts and observers. He tells a heart-felt and fact-filled story, not only about the “A” boats but about the commercial fishing industry and the politics of commercial fishing in the early 1980s. There's so much more in his book than I've told you here, and if you're like me, you won't be able to put it down once you start reading it. For some fans of (American) Football, the Super Bowl is a major event. For some others, it's a chance to watch some unique commercials and movie trailer. For many, it's all about the HALFTIME SHOW! Needless to say, we're not the biggest fans of Football (or sports for that matter), but this Super Bowl held a bigger promise for us: a Big Game Spot for THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU, and a Halftime Show featuring Puerto Rican megastar BAD BUNNY!Some Star Wars and Puerto Rican culture, what could go wrong? With THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU release date only 3 months away, and it being the first Star Wars theatrical release since 2019, it seems that the marketing blitz for this film is...bizarre? Despite the Tauntauns, the hype for this film is somewhat lacking and we discuss all of it!In other Super Bowl news, after BAD BUNNY's show, the event is now called the BENITO BOWL. This performance was one of joy, love, and celebration of Puerto Rican and Latin culture, and as a Puerto Ricans this show was really transcendent and emotional. We discuss our reactions to this performance and the political connotations (and reactions) it presented. The Super Bowl isn't the finish line. It's the starting point. Daniel sits down with Doug VandeVelde, Chief Growth Officer at WK Kellogg, to break down why Raisin Bran is making a Super Bowl appearance and why fiber is the next big cultural and consumer shift in health. From spotting early consumer signals, to turning a Super Bowl ad into a year-long growth strategy, to choosing William Shatner as the face of the campaign, Doug unpacks how legacy brands stay relevant at the biggest stage in marketing. They also dive into what success actually looks like beyond the Big Game, how Kellogg integrates marketing, product, and distribution under a growth lens, and why transparency is the marketing hill Doug would die on. Zohran's warmth of collectivism has swept through New York like a purging fire. The death toll of NYC's socialist experiment is already at 17 and that's just the homeless. But wait, there's more.
