In the spring of 2014, Erik Swoope '10 laced up his cleats for the first day of rookie camp with the Indianapolis Colts. While the NFL is a rare destination for any aspiring professional athlete, this was especially unusual for Erik. Erik Swoope never played college football, nor high school football, nor youth football--nor had he watched the Super Bowl in more than a decade. Yet somehow, Erik made the practice squad--and then the real squad, spending the next several years catching touchdown passes from Andrew Luck as an NFL tight end. In this episode, Erik tells his story, from growing up in Lake Elsinore and playing AAU basketball, to finding Harvard-Westlake and University of Miami, to then converting his ACC basketball skills to the route-running and pass-catching of the NFL. Through it all, however, Erik has found success by conveying both the inner confidence to pursue new challenges and the humility to seek wisdom and guidance from others. Among the many figures Erik cites as profound mentors are Jon Wimbish and Greg Hilliard of Harvard-Westlake, Jim Larrañaga of University of Miami, and Rob Chudzinski, Jimmy Graham, Jack Doyle, Reggie Wayne, and Andrew Luck of the National Football League.

(The Vampire Plague of 1725) *** Margaret Allen was hanged to death. But it's the strange life she lived and the odd nature of her crime that still interests people in her case. (The Hanging of Margaret or Bill) *** 12-year-old Gabriel enjoyed playing games with an online friend. But when he borrowed less than two dollars for an in-game purchase from this friend, then ignored his requests to continue playing, he found himself dying the most horrifying murder you can imagine. And despite law enforcement knowing who the murderer is, he is free now – and no one knows where to find him. It is a brutally horrible story you do not want children in the room for. (A Deadly Gaming Friendship) *** Being the victim of a stalker is terrifying – not knowing when or where the person might show up next, or what they'll do to you when they do show up. But there are those who have an even more terrifying situation – where the stalker follows them their entire lives, and there's nothing they can do to stop it – because the stalker is paranormal. On today's episode, Evan and Stampede Blue's Stephen Reed preview the Indianapolis Colts' playmaking group before training camp begins later this month. What are the biggest takeaways from Indy's WR and TE corps?Led by T.Y. Hilton, Michael Pittman Jr., Parris Campbell, and Zach Pascal, the Colts' top four wideouts are very solid with a lot untapped potential. With how much Indy has been hyping up MPJ and Campbell throughout the offseason, is 2021 the year where the baton is officially passed from Hilton?Looking over the tight ends, how should we feel about Mo Alie-Cox and Kylen Granson potentially being the Colts' TE1/2 long-term? Both complement each other so well, and are poised for big years in Jack Doyle's potential swan-song season. All of this, plus so much more, in a jam-packed episode you won't want to miss on the Colts' wide receivers and tight ends! Unless you live under a rock, you'll know that in 2020 the nonprofit sector saw HUGE increases in giving through Donor Advised Fund (DAF) giving accounts. There was an outpouring of generosity across the nation, and many donors with DAF giving accounts stepped up to make sure that organizations received critical funding when they needed it most.Watching this play out in 2020 got me thinking more and more about the growing importance of donor advised funds, the donors who control them, and how nonprofits can and should engage both with DAF account holders and the financial institutions that manage these accounts. That's why I was thrilled to recently get the chance to talk with Jennifer Risher. Jen is a retired Microsoft executive, author of We Need to Talk: A Memoir on Wealth, and co-founder of the #HalfMyDAF movement. Jen and her husband David (CEO of Worldreader) founded the #HalfMyDAF movement in 2020 to incentivize donors who have DAF accounts to distribute more money from their giving accounts more quickly to make greater impact right now.Jen and I sat down to talk about why she and David launched the #HalfMyDAF movement, how nonprofits can and should engage with DAF donors, and what the role of financial institutions is in the DAF giving ecosystem. We also talk about the growing pool of matching funds that #HalfMyDAF is making available in 2021 to incentivize more DAF giving account holders to spend down at least 50% of their DAF holdings -- you won't want to miss this opportunity!Every nonprofit needs to be paying attention to donors who are giving through their DAF accounts. Jen and David Risher will be joining my friend Jack Doyle, President of Amergent (a Moore company) for a FREE webinar called #HalfMyDAF and the future of Donor Advised Funds on March 9 at 12pm Central Time (US and Canada). I invite you to join them for this free webinar that will provide a TON of value!
