Former Cincinnati Bengal and sports commenter Solomon Wilcots joins us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham to discuss his time at the NFL combine and who impressed him the most when it comes to who the Bengals should target with their first-round pick. Lap and Solomon discuss what a lot of Bengal fans are debating right now, should the Bengals take or trade up for TE prospect Brock Bowers or take their future right tackle with their first-round selection? It's a win-win for the Bengals at pick #18 because anyway they decide to go they will be getting an immediate impact player. With the 2024 tackle class being one of the best in recent memory one or maybe two of those tackles will be there and would immediately start at right tackle. On the other hand, the Bengals haven't had a solid long-term tight end since they drafted Tyler Eifert in 2013. Brock Bowers is viewed by many to be a generational-type prospect and the idea of him, Jamaar Chase, Tee Higgins, and Joe Burrow all together is very exciting to think about. The Bengals did sign free agent Mike Gesicki, to a one-year deal but the Bengals need to address the position in the draft as they haven't drafted a tight end since Drew Sample in 2019. Let us know in the comments below who you would draft in the first round! Brock Bowers or right tackle? We want to thank Solomon Wilcots for being a fantastic guest and for joining us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham brought to you by First Star Logistics. The NFL trade deadline has become an event in recent years, with a flurry of deadline moves in 2017 and 2018. With the 2019 deadline coming up on Tuesday, October 29th, John (@SuperFlexDude) and James (@_JamesTheBrain) go “head vs. heart” on several players who could be on the move. The head says the logical landing spot for players like Kenyan Drake and Tyler Eifert are a little boring for fantasy purposes; the heart says O.J. Howard ends up on the offense where he has always belonged, and Larry Fitzgerald goes out a world champion. Several teams become sellers as the trade deadline looms, with their season being lost and going nowhere, and several fantasy relevant players suddenly become available for trade… at least in theory. Contenders have a chance to load up for the playoff run, non-contenders can free up cap space and add draft picks. But which players will relocate, and where are they headed? The guys look at each player both logically and from a slightly irrational fantasy/fandom perspective. And included in the predictions – both safe and bold – include two starting NFL quarterbacks, including a future hall of famer in the prime of his career! All that and more on this week's pre-deadline episode! August is HERE! The regular season is right around the corner, and that means fantasy drafts are almost upon us. We'll give our take on six players who don't quite stack up in our rankings like they do in expert consensus rankings (ECR). But first, I wanted to get Pat's take on several bold statements. Does he REALLY think Dalvin Cook will be a top 5 running back (3:30)? What can you expect from the Cowboys' WRs (4:45)? Plus, you're not going to believe how high he is on Anthony Miller (8:00)! Finally, Pat predicts an INSANE amount of TDs for Davante Adams this season (9:30). Next, I'll give a tip on one round in particular where you can find some nice WR value (11:25). Let's get into the league news & notes and talk about the return of Pat's TE man crush, Tyler Eifert (12:35). Speaking of healthy TEs, Jordan Reed says he is 100%. I get Pat's take on which one of those two could have a better season (13:30). Should we panic about Doug Baldwin yet (18:20)? Let's talk rankings! Listen in as I put Vance McDonald (28:00), Doug Martin (37:00), and Mike Williams (46:00) in the spotlight for Pat, and he counters with Demaryius Thomas (34:00), Alex Collins (42:00), and D.J. Moore (52:30).
