In the newest Spike Lee joint, two undercover police officers infiltrate the Klux Klux Klan. Ron Stallworth, an African American, and Flip Zimmerman, a Jewish man, accomplish this by having Stallworth handle business by phone and sending Zimmerman in to the face to face contact situations. Through clever detective work, fantastic manipulation, and some luck, Stallworth and Zimmerman eventually become members of the infamous Klan. Does this film hold up against Lee's previous works? Or is the Blackklansman an attempt to tell a convoluted message? Listen in to find out in this week's episode of The Amateur Auteurs! On this weeks show, we discussed topics on awareness and victories. I big victory would be "Aubrey and the Three Amigos Tour". Drake is expected to drop his fifth studio album Scorpion prior to the start of the 41-date tour. Ticket sales begin May 18th and for those in the DMV, the tour will be here on Sept 12th & 13th. Get those tickets now! Another big victory, specifically for the DMV is local rapper "Q Da Fool" signing with Jay-Z's Roc Nation. The Maryland native is working hard on a new EP alongside Atlanta’s Zaytoven and wants to put the region on his back. Congrats homie!! On the awareness front, Spike Lee teams up with Jordan Peele for the funny, pointed, uneven BlacKkKlansman. Ron Stallworth, the first African-American police officer in Colorado Springs, Colo., works under cover to infiltrate the Ku Klux Klan in 1979. Stallworth and his partner Flip Zimmerman risk their lives to penetrate the KKK at its highest levels and is based on the book Black Klansman by Ron Stallworth. It is scheduled for release August 10, 2018 which is the one-year anniversary of the deadly Charlottesville, Va., white nationalist rally. We've got another one! This one here has definitely been on "meme" tour, lol. A woman called the police to report a Black family for barbecuing with charcoal in an area designated for gas grilling. As you might imagine, the rule is not heavily observed. This woman called the police on the family and then wept when they arrived, speaking about how she had been harassed by them. Thankfully, a member of the family recorded the woman calling the police before they arrived. So there was no discrepancy. As a result of this woman’s actions, she’s now become an official meme. She got exactly what she deserved! We know you probably didn't get enough. GOOD NEWS...we'll be back next Wednesday!!!
