POPULARITY
Many of former President Trump’s Cabinet members and executive branch staffers from his first administration have publicly disavowed him. Who would serve in his White House if he wins again? Pro-cryptocurrency donors have made almost half of all the corporate contributions to political action committees this election, spending hundreds of millions of dollars on both sides of the aisle. A decade after the events of “Black Klansman,” undercover police detective Ron Stallworth relocated to Utah to infiltrate the same Bloods and Crips who waged gang warfare in LA and now expanded into the rich, mostly white Mormon church. New York curators have uncovered a waltz by Frederick Chopin. The short and turbulent composition captures the Polish composer’s sorrow while in exile.

Trey's Table Season 3 Episode 10 The genius of Spike Lee Do the right thing. Malcolm X. Jungle Fever. Black Klansman. Spike Lee has firmly established himself as one of the greatest filmmakers of our time. The movies I just mentioned are the first ones you think about when his name is mentioned. In this podcast I'd like to focus on a few of his movies, which in my opinion don't get enough credit and attention. These films reflect the best of Spike Lee's creativity, humor and his passion for using cinema to raise consciousness about the pressing issues facing the African-American community. Spike Lee, born Shelton Jackson Lee on March 20, 1957, in Atlanta, Georgia. Lee's filmmaking journey began at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, where he honed his skills and developed his unique style. In 1986, he burst onto the scene with his breakthrough film, "She's Gotta Have It," a trailblazing independent feature that explored contemporary relationships and launched Lee's distinct voice. One of Spike Lee's defining characteristics as a filmmaker is his ability to tackle important social and political themes head-on. His films often provide thought-provoking commentary on race, identity, and the complexities of the African American experience.

Book Vs. Movie:BlacKkKlansmanThe True Story Ron StallworthThe Margos visit the world of nonfiction with the too-nutty-to-not-be-true story of retired police officer Ron Stallworth who in the late 1970s infiltrated the Kuy Klux Klan in Colorado Springs, Colorado. On his journey, he met racists throughout the region who were not precisely clever but had designs of terrorizing nonwhites and Jewish people. After his assignment, he transferred to work at the Utah Department of Safety--never speaking about the job until after retirement. His 2014 book Black Klansman: A Memoir explains how and why he joined the Colorado “Organization” and how it felt to be the only person of color on the police force. We also learn how the KKK planned to bomb gay bars and cross-burnings throughout Colorado Springs. During his recruitment process, Stallworth spoke with the Grand Wizard, David Duke, and even took a photo with the noted racist creep. Director & screenwriter Spike Lee and producer Jordan Peele adapted the memoir into a 2018 film starring John David Washington, Adam Driver, and Topher Grace that won wide praise was a box office hit and earned Lee an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.
If you're casting an unconventional character and you need someone the audience will relate to—no matter how strange his story—you might want to call on Paul Walter Hauser. Clint Eastwood did for the leading role in his movie Richard Jewell, Craig Gillespie did for I, Tonya, and Dennis Lehane did for the current Apple+ series Black Bird. (Spike Lee has used him twice—in Blackklansman and Da 5 Bloods.) Jessie has been a fan since the TV series Kingdom, and Leonard is still catching up with this gifted performer's work.
Lost Highways: Dispatches from the Shadows of the Rocky Mountains
In 2019, Spike Lee's 2018 film "BlacKkKlansman" won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. The film brought national attention to the story of Ron Stallworth, the first Black Detective to work in the Colorado Springs Police Department, who infiltrated the Ku Klux Klan in the 1920s. But what many people don't know is that Colorado has been home to THREE Black Klansmen. In this episode, Noel and Tyler talk to experts, scholars, Theo Wilson (the most recent Black Klansman), and more as we explore the story of Dr. Joseph Westbrook, who infiltrated the KKK in the 1920s in an effort to protect the thriving Five Points community in Denver.

In the latest episode of What's Your Limp? Jordan talks with actor Paul Walter Hauser (Richard Jewell, I Tonya, Cruella). Paul quickly climbed the ranks in Hollywood and has worked with some of the best actors and filmmakers in the industry. But it all makes sense when you watch his performances, because he holds his own with every legend he's shared the screen with. Not only that, but he's a genuinely good person, which explains why so many people are so eager to work with him. However, even though Paul has built a career for himself that 99% of actors would kill for, it hasn't been without his struggles. In this episode, Paul opens up about his insecurities from imposter syndrome, to body image issues to anxiety and more. He also dives into how he's attempting to better himself as a person and is actively working on making necessary changes.Paul is an incredibly humble, honest, genuine and kind-hearted person. He's one of those people you can't help but root for - and I think all of that is apparent in this conversation.

In this episode, Kenny Gravillis joins David Jensen and Cecily Chambers to talk about how he has navigated the waters of being a black-owned agency in the mostly white-dominated entertainment marketing field. Kenny is the co-founder and chief creative officer of Gravillis, Inc.—a boutique graphic design firm that specializes in television and film marketing campaigns. He takes us across his journey to finding success in his field along with the challenges he has encountered, especially when it comes to seeking representation, diversity, and inclusion, and later on, moving forward those needs in the industry. He then discusses how it is not his job as a marketer to make the audience feel comfortable and why it is important to be authentic and use power for good. Join this conversation as Kenny shares more about his experiences working with Spike Lee and Melina Matsoukas and designing iconic movie posters like Straight Outta Compton, Black Klansman, Bohemian Rhapsody, and Star Wars (to name a few). His experiences have been recorded down in his 2009 memoir Shadows & Light: Journeys With Outlaws in Revolutionary Hollywood as well as being the focus on the documentary, Danger God and Love and other Stunts. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Literally the hardest episode I have ever had to record due to the many mishaps of here and there. Nevertheless, I persisted and the episode is here (though a bit late). On this episode, the Trash Trio is talking about RAM's obsession for Gundam, Lin's love for Neil Gaiman, and dilchh's crush for Kafka Tamura. Lin and dilchh also agreed on how charming and dreamy James McAvoy was in Becoming Jane. Nevertheless, their love for James McAvoy would never beat the love that Delanie has for Xi Jinping in Xi's the One! Also, for some weird reason, RAM read a sexy/horror book when he was young? Notable mentions in this episode: Make Good Art, Kafka on the Shore, The Good Omens, Anansi Boys, The Graveyard Book, American Gods, and Becoming Jane. Oh, I also did a review of Black Klansman by Ron Stallworth. Streaming platforms like Netflix's Black Lives Matter Collection, Prime Video's Amplifying Black Voices, HBO's Celebrating Black Voices and Hulu's Black Stories are highlighting more black films and documentaries to showcase the African American struggle, triumphs and systemic racism. This is a whole episode about nothing with the guys from Things With Todd. They briefly tell us what they're working on but then we start talking about dentists, Todd being a facebook Black Klansman, how polite everyone has gotten, our quarantine behavior, and the political leanings of Tony the Tiger. It's random. Enjoy. Website: www.things-with.com Todd Instagram: @thingswithtodd Tubo Instagram: @ogdannyocean
