Frnd Crcl, pronounced "Friend Circle," is a band based in Vineland, NJ, steadily making a name for themselves in the pop punk scene. Formed in 2018, they began to turn heads with the release of their sophomore album, Internet Noise, which dropped during the chaotic year of 2020. Often compared to pop punk heavyweights like Blink-182 and Sum 41, FRND CRCL is now aiming to carve out their own unique identity with their upcoming release, JRSY FRSH, set to drop on May 30. Joining me on the podcast today is Zac Johnson of FRND CRCL. We dive into the band's journey—past, present, and future—and explore our perspectives on creativity in today's ever-evolving music industry.
In this engaging conversation, Mikey, Justin, and Aaron Smith from FRND CRCL discuss the band's upcoming album 'Jrsy Frsh', the return of their original bassist Adam, and the dynamics of their music. They explore the challenges of creating music videos in the age of short-form content, share experiences from their recent tour, and reflect on the recording process with their long-time collaborator Tyler Sky. The discussion also touches on the reception of their new singles during live performances, their future touring plans, and the vibrant music scene in Nashville, alongside a light-hearted chat about the NHL playoffs. In this engaging conversation, we dive into the cultural significance of Gritty, innovative strategies for boosting attendance at live music events, and the resurgence of live music in the post-pandemic era. Power chords and crashing boards. Mikey, Tom, and Justin talk music, hockey, and anything else that gets in their way. Tom and Mikey are lifelong friends that grew up on Long Island during the glory days of alternative music where our local bands were As Tall As Lions, Brand New, Taking Back Sunday, Bayside, The Sleeping, Envy on the Coast, you get the point. We spent many nights together at The Downtown, catching any pop-punk, indie, hardcore, or emo band that came through. This was not a phase, Mom! Fast forward 20 years and we are still just as passionate about the scene as we were during our girl jeans and youth XL band tees days. Tom and Mikey are diehard New York Islanders fans, but Justin (Bolts fan) likes to remind us that we are #notanislespodcast. As we got older we realized we can like more than one thing and running beside our love for music has always been our love for hockey. We have realized we are not alone in this thinking, actually there are many of us that love these two things! This podcast explores just how connected they are!NEW EPISODE EVERY TUESDAY!
