The Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (Mass Moca) is starting a record label aimed at developing artists, focusing on creativity, and giving exposure to musicians who are creating under-appreciated art. The first record on this new label came out last Friday. The Kasawambwe Brothers of Malawi recorded this album with help from Mass Moca. I spoke to Harlan Steinberger who runs a studio in Los Angeles called Hen House Studio. He's worked with artists like Willie Nelson and Sunny War, and has been recording music for decades. I had the chance to speak with him about this exciting new project, and what's in store for the future of Mass Moca Records. I hope you dig it!

Belgian psychedelic post-metal masters Psychonaut return with their triumphant new album World Maker, released 24th October via Pelagic Records. This record takes the form of life lessons for guitarist/vocalist Stefan De Graef son, who at the time of album writing, learned he was to be a father. There's very little as life changing as that, and although misery would follow not long after the birth of De Graef's son as the devastating news that both his own father and Psychonaut bassist/vocalist Thomas Michiels' father had been diagnosed with advanced cancers, the record is still focused on the positive experience of becoming a dad. It doesn't matter if you can relate or not, you'll be able to understand the feeling in this record, regardless. Psychonaut may never make an album quite like this again, that is how unique an effort it is, but long-term fans won't be turned off by it either as so much of what makes them who they are is present. It's the most contemporary the band has sounded, and with that, comes something truly unforgettable. Long-time listeners of Roots Music Rambler will recognize the name of the band Sparkle Carcass. They happen to be one of Francesca Folinazzo's favorite Chicago-based bands she sees play live frequently. And to their credit, they are well-known in the windy city as an alt-country, dive bar sorta crew. Well, Cody Palmer and crew today released their second studio album and he joined us on Roots Music Rambler to talk about it. The LP is called Maraschino Chevy and brings out their honky-tonk, beer-slingin', toe-tappin' sound nicely. Palmer joined Frank and Falls to talk about the album, his songwriting process, a musical mom whose healthy rivalry with him helped form his work and a lot more. He talked about how he and wife (and band member) Reilly Downes balance their independent musical projects while participating in one another's and a lot more. We also talk about Sparkle Carcass's first Maraschino Chevy single “Sippin' on a Cool One” which was originally released by a band called Rollin' Country around 1977. The Dean's List with Host Dean Bowen – Parents continue to lose faith in American public education as satisfaction survey reaches a new low. Gallup's Megan Brenan wrote in a news release that “Only about one-quarter of Americans think K-12 schools are headed in the right direction, while just one in five rate them as ‘excellent' or ‘good' at preparing students for today's jobs, and one in three say the same for college.”
