Daryl Davis is a Black musician who befriends white supremacists to try to get them to give up their old ways. He's led more than 200 to renounce racism, and more than 50 Klansmen have surrendered their robes to him. Years ago, he was playing piano in a Maryland truck stop when a man who turned out to be a Klansman said Davis was the first Black man he'd ever heard who could play like Jerry Lee Lewis. Davis corrected him, asking: "Where do you think Jerry Lee Lewis learned to play?" He's been educating racist ever since.Davis has gotten criticism for engaging with racists. but in this podcast, he explains to writer Greg Gilman that one of his goals is to prevent lone-wolf attacks, like the one carried out by Dylan Roof in a South Carolina church in 2015.Davis is the focus of Accidental Courtesy: Daryl Davis, Race & America, a documentary by Matthew Orenstein now playing on Amazon Prime. About Greg In Good Company:GREG IN GOOD COMPANY is hard to squeeze into genre box, but their blend of rock, pop, folk, funk and punk is earning them praise from listeners, blogs and radio stations that give their unique take on alt rock a chance. The Los Angeles-based band has been performing in southern California since being founded in 2015 by singer/songwriter/guitarist Greg Gilman, and began to build an online presence after the early 2016 release of their debut, self-titled EP. Singles included "Save Me" and "2 AM," catching the attention of LA radio station the New 88.5 FM in 2017, as well as receiving airplay on Laguna Beach's KX 93.5 and even across the country on WXRY 99.3.Other members of the band include pianist/vocalist Lee, lead guitarist Marty Vites, bassist Alex U'Ren and drummer Alexa Brinkschulte. They have recently completed their debut full-length album, "American Way," which will be released in the summer of 2018.Greg in Good Company's music - a combination of upbeat catchy melodies, funky bass riffs, soulful vocal harmonies and thoughtful lyrics - is often compared to Mumford and Sons, The Lumineers, The Strumbellas and Weezer, while also reminding listeners of the classic rock that ruled the airwaves decades ago. Ben catches up with Greg Gilman, Founder of Science Blockchain, to talk about launching one of the world's first security tokens. Greg talks about his journey from security token discovery to evangelizing and managing the process with venture firms new to digital ownership. Greg recalls his initial conversations with institutional investors; answering their questions about custody and calming their fears about custody and legalities. Greg goes into why Science Blockchain decided to issue such a complex security token, and why it was so important to deliver value back to token holders -- who are limited partners -- who have a vested interest in Science's portfolio companies. Greg discusses his partnership with Argon Group and Tokenhub, to ensure full and ongoing compliance for Science's security token. He mentions the role Open Finance Network, Polymath's wrapper and Habor's R-Token standard play in managing the downstream, post-sale life of a security token. Greg offers some thoughts on what it will take for security tokenization to go mainstream with retail and institutional investors, and why that could lead to an explosion in wealth when illiquid assets become liquid. Ben and Jay dissect the conversation and how much the security token space has changed in the past few months; how issuers are testing the infrastructure on themselves; and the challenges and realities of post-issuance compliance and trading. They compare and contrast investment practices of VCs with their new blockchain-based brethren. Jay talks about the "anticipointment" left in the market by utility tokens, and why it has muddied the waters on security tokens. He talks about how the media are trying to handle the unknowns of security tokens. While Ben explains why security tokes are more comparable to investment options that have been around for decades, just with greater liquidity.
