Flying over San Diego, you can see them: Fingers of green extending through neighborhoods all across the city. San Diego's urban canyon's serve as refuges for people and wildlife alike, but they're also often isolated islands of habitat. This can keep animals from accessing the resources they need to survive. And human neighbors aren't always able to access these spaces, either. In this episode, join me and Michelle Thompson as we search for reptiles in one of San Diego's urban canyons, discuss what makes canyons special, and explore how the San Diego Natural History Museum is setting the foundation for the long-term health of these spaces. There's nothing like a relaxed, sit-down conversation – especially when discussing complicated things like faith, love, and art. True Tunes is committed to long-form dialogue in a world that is increasingly (and tragically) defined and governed by social media metrics and pithy one-liners. This conversation with Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Jennifer Knapp may be our longest yet – but we wouldn't have it any other way. Knapp has come a long way since her debut LP, Kansas, was certified Gold 25 years ago. She followed that with two more critically acclaimed and commercially successful LPs in the Christian music market and earned increased respect and opportunities to share her craft on mainstream stages. She gathered two Grammy nominations and sold a million albums in three years, but things were not well behind the scenes. In 2002, after fulfilling her contractual obligations, Jennifer dropped out of the scene, disconnected from the industry, and moved to Australia. After an eight-year hiatus and coming out as gay, Knapp returned in 2010. Jennifer recently revisited her debut, re-recording Kansas with producer Steve Hindalong to celebrate its 25th anniversary. On this episode of the podcast, Knapp visits John and Michelle Thompson in their East Nashville home to talk about her journey, her faith, and what it has been like to go back to Kansas. We'll also hear a bit from Hindalong about how the project came together. A healthy discussion with the minister of health more than halfway through her mandate, on whether we are getting good return for our health care dollars.
This episode's guest is Dr. Michelle Thompson, the medical director of the Lifestyle Medicine Institute at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). This conversation explores how Dr. Thompson is bringing lifestyle and integrative medicine into major health systems. She began her journey practicing integrative medicine but leveraged the six pillars of lifestyle medicine to bridge the gap with conventional medicine. This hybrid path allowed her to excel at practicing in traditional settings and facilitated introducing integrative and lifestyle medicine principles into larger health systems. Dr. Thompson also shared evidence that there is growing momentum behind the integrative and lifestyle medicine movements, including acceptance and adoption of its principles within health systems. She encourages physicians who may have previously left the system to consider returning and joining a hospital system that is open to change and supportive of these modalities. Building upon recent podcast conversations, such as the episode with Dr. Joe Pizzorno, this episode emphasizes the importance of unity amongst the many disciplines within health-promoting care. Download and listen to this episode to learn more about: How clinicans can transform medicine by being bold and authentic in how they choose to practice The responsibility of clinicians, residents and medical students to help shift the culture in medicine to better align with the principles of lifestyle medicine The importance of showing empathy towards patients and letting them drive their own health journey Physician burnout and the importance of clinicians prioritizing self-care And much, much more Related resources: American College of Lifestyle Medicine: About the UMPC Lifestyle Medicine Program Whole Hearted Medicine: Meet Dr. Michelle
If you get nothing else from listening to this memorable episode of Raise the Line, you'll at least have the chance to do a breathing exercise in real time along with host Shiv Gaglani and his guest, Dr. Michelle Thompson, who is triple board certified in lifestyle, integrative, and osteopathic family medicine. Dr. Thompson has come to rely on a breathing practice for her own daily wellbeing and offers to do it along with all of her patients as well as countless medical students, residents and colleagues. In fact, as a strong advocate for provider wellness, she's created full-day programs for physicians and nurses to learn tools like breathwork for resilience and self-care. “Self-care is not selfish. If we are caring for ourselves, we are more available to others,” she explains. In addition to her role as medical director of the Lifestyle Medicine Institute at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Thompson is a national force in establishing lifestyle medicine programs in health systems across the country, as nearly 100 organizations have done. Taking it a step further, UPMC is building a new hospital in the city that Thompson says is going to have a “lifestyle village” on the first three floors to facilitate the efforts of community members to choose healthy habits. Join us as we explore the impact lifestyle and mind-body medicine is having on patient care, employee wellness and medical education in Pittsburgh and far beyond in this perspective-shifting conversation.Mentioned in this episode: University of Pittsburgh Medical Center

If you think True Tunes host and founder John J. Thompson is objective about music - merely a dispassionate observer or fact-gathering journalist... think again. "Before I wrote about music," he admits, "before I worked in the industry at all - before I promoted concerts or started True Tunes back in the 80s - I was a kid with a guitar, bad hair, and way more confidence than talent. Inspired by heroes like T Bone Burnett, Steve Taylor, Bob Dylan, Bono, Mark Heard, Bruce Cockburn, The 77s, and all of the bands Terry Scott Taylor was in, I knew I had to make music. Everything I have done since then has flowed from this original inspiration. I am definitely biased about this stuff." And despite how busy he has been helping other people with their projects, It's been a long time since Thompson has released new music of his own. With the release of a new double single: "Ghost In The Needle" / "Not OK At All" that time has come and he is ready to show his hand. In this special "extended" 45RPM episode, JJT is joined by his wife - and longsuffering Wayside bandmate - Michelle Lynn Thompson to discuss their new songs in particular and their somewhat complicated creative relationship in general. Elsewhere in the show, he sits down with producer Matt Goldman, famous for his work with Underoath, The Chariot, Luxury, and others, to talk about the production process. Founder and Owner Michelle Thompson is a Legal Coach and operates Resistant Vision Coaching and Consulting, LLC. How Do I Work with Clients? At Resistant Vision, we have three steps to working with clients: Calming your nervous system using the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT/tapping), self-care, and pleasure inventories; Clarifying your goals and paving a path ahead; and Committing to your goals to bring about the life you want. As a coach, I work with lawyers to: Get out of the fight, flight, or freeze - no more feeling held hostage to your bosses and clients; Prioritize your well-being; Reconnect with the amazing ways you wanted to make a mark on the world; and Set a path forward to leaving your mark. As a result, clients have built the professional and personal habits they need to have a sustainable legal career and create the world they want without burnout and exhaustion. The Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), also known as tapping, is a simple tool that can clean up the feelings associated with trauma and physical hurts by tapping on acupuncture points while repeating phrases. This is fundamental to lawyers transforming their work lives, so they're not held hostage to work, their family, or the community. This is fundamental to creating pleasure in your life and spreading that pleasure. The four biggest challenges my clients face that undermine overall well-being and productivity are: Reducing Stress by Taking Charge of Your Time: How to Prioritize Yourself for Professional Success and Avoid Burnout; How to Build a Regular, Sustainable, and Long-Term Writing Practice: Writing Without Burnout and Compromised Health, and Writing with Support: Using the Tools of Social Writing to Keep Large Writing Projects Moving Forward. How to Use Billable Hours as a Planning Device to Direct Your Time, Your Focus, Your Priorities, and Your Energy. I give speeches and workshops about these four topics and more and would love to share what I know with your colleagues, department, division, or law firm. Hey, it's Craig Fisher. I am here with Michelle Thompson. She is the head of sourcing at Uber. And she is a longtime friend and colleague and collaborator. Michelle will be appearing at TalentNet Live and TheCandE's conference Nov. 2-3 in DFW. Register https://insde.co/78rj And we're glad to have you here with us, Michelle, how are you? Excellent. Thanks for having me. So, tell us a little bit about what's going on in your role currently, and what issues your team is seeing and how you're tackling? Yeah. So we've been going through kind of a reinvention for lack of a better term here at Uber for the past few years, I've been here for two and a half now. came over to build the sourcing space for tech, and then switched over to build the sourcing space for non tech. And one of the things that we're really seeing with all these interesting ups and downs and post great resignation, and all of this is that our candidate attraction strategy has to be way more focused, while at the same town way more diverse than it's ever been in the past. So part of the things that I'm working on are where does the talent that we won't really live in each of our verticals? And how are we going to attract them? And how are we going to sell the story of why Uber Uber, as you know, is a global company with a lot of reach. They're one of the companies that definitely came out of out of COVID. You know, stronger, faster better than before. So though our, our needs have shifted their continuous. So it's been a really interesting model. I think when I came on board, they had literally just shuttered all the all of the offices and kind of screeched everything to a halt. And what they didn't realize was within 30 days, the Uber Eats side of the business will just explode. I think the first two months I was here, they added 34,000 restaurants to the platform. And then since then, we've added about 18 different variations of what we can do with that model. So Uber, pharmacy and grocery delivery and liquor delivery and all these other pieces. Uber freight has been huge for us. But that keeps me on my toes as far as how that messaging gets out to reach that group of candidates that not only has the skill set that has the desire to come and work with a company that is in continuous flux.
