This band was born out of the social awareness that Gary Bartz possessed. Gary of course in one of the leading voices of the alto and soprano saxophones and at 81 is still very active as a player and teacher. Bartz rose to prominence with Art Blakey's Jazz messengers, Max Roach's Quintet, McCoy Tyner's Ensembles and most significantly with Miles Davis all by the early 70's. During his time with Miles Davis , Gary Bartz formed his NTU Troop and the music of the Troop reflected the times in America, the assassinations of prominent figures, the Kennedy's, Malcolm X, Dr. M.L.King and the ongoing Viet Nam War and of course the civil rights of Black Americans. The band included Bartz on alto and soprano saxophones, the big voice of Andy Bey. electric and acoustic bassist Juini Booth, drummer Harold White and master percussionist Nat Bettis. The album entitled "Harlem Bush Music" is out Jazz Feature. It was recorded in New York in November of 1970 and as Gary Bartz states "this music is dedicated to two warriors, John Coltrane and Malcolm X".. Tonight's Jazz Feature is our final tribute to Black History Month but not ever the end of Black History!
Juan and Terence invite guest Harold Sonny White who is responsible for writing the paper on the Alcubierre White warp drive. On this week's episode, we sat down with a Ray & Sawyer White, the 5th generation of their family business - a lumber company. While most people would not associate lumber with technology, our conversation with the Whites focused on how new technology is allowing for a shift to sustainability in an industry that's thought to be the opposite. Ray and Sawyer also share what it's been like to grow a business in Kentucky through 5 generations of their family and where they hope to take the company once it's their turn to run it. After a hiatus from the podcast, during the age of Covid-19 and the ever constant use of Zoom, I decided to relaunch the podcast with interviewing the cast/crew of my new horror web series, Safer-at-Home. Check out the installments page on YouTube. BIOS Adam Cabrera is one of the baddest mothas you'll ever meet but nice as hell, would give you the shirt off of his back if he didn't love it so much. He comes from a small town in New Mexico, and is making his way through this world one film or short film at a time. He also had a dog but doesn't anymore! Alex Henderson grew up in Calabasas, played football and graduated from Norther Arizona University. After many concussions he decided to leave the world of sports in pursuit of story telling. He suffers from night terrors and sleepwalking. Harold White, Jr raised in Nashville, TN grew up around 10 brothers and sisters, one of the most positive people in the world, and always knew he was a go-getter since walking at the age of 6 moths. Playing baseball could've paved the the way for his future but storytelling has always been his greatest gift. Having kids has only taught Harold one important thing in life....make sure they know they can be whatever they want to be. Harold's favorite saying is 'Be Phenomenal or Be Forgotten.' Harold wants everyone to know that he is only in the position because of God and his family. #StayPositive --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/mimosaswithmichael/support

NASA engineers unveil warp ship design concept—IXS Enterprise In 2012, NASA engineer and physicist Harold White announced he was working on a solution to the energy problem in Miguel Alcubierre’s 1994 theory for faster-than-light space travel. His goal? To reduce the requirements from the mass-energy of Jupiter to something the size of NASA’s Voyager 1 probe. Now, as part of the project, White has collaborated with Mark Rademaker to create a CGI design concept of a warp-capable ship, which they have named it the IXS Enterprise. See the ship design.
