Der langjährige Chefdirigent und Composer-in-Residence der hr-Bigband, Jim McNeely, ist am Freitag, 26. September 2025, im Alter von 76 Jahren in New York nach kurzer schwerer Krankheit verstorben. Jim McNeely war einer der profiliertesten Orchesterleiter des zeitgenössischen Jazz. Als Komponist und Arrangeur hat er für die renommiertesten Jazzorchester in den USA und Europa gearbeitet. Von 2011 bis 2022 war McNeely Chefdirigent der hr-Bigband, danach führte er seine Arbeit noch zwei Jahre als "Composer in Residence" weiter. Erst im Juni 2024 gab McNeely zusammen mit der hr-Bigband ein umjubeltes Abschiedskonzert im hr-Sendesaal und wurde zum ersten Ehrendirigenten des Ensembles ernannt. Bonjour à toutes et à tous et bienvenue dans ce nouvel épisode du Carré, un podcast d'Horizons Marines, la chaine des podcasts de la mer, du fait maritime et de ses acteurs. Aujourd'hui, on va vous parler du livre « Voyage en France Australe » publié par Bruno Fuligni aux éditions Allary. Publié en septembre 2025, cet ouvrage présente en détails des territoires maritimes français peu connus et loin de toute civilisation.  Situées dans l'océan Indien, les TAAF pour Terres Australes et Antarctiques Françaises, sont de petits bouts de terres perdus au milieu des mers.  On en dénombre aujourd'hui cinq répartis sous forme de districts : les îles Éparses, l'archipel Crozet, les Kerguelen, les îles Saint-Paul et Amsterdam, ainsi que la Terre Adélie. Depuis des siècles, ces terres appellent de nombreux aventuriers à les visiter et découvrir leurs innombrables secrets.  Et c'est probablement attiré par ces mystères que Bruno Fuligni, écrivain et maître de conférences à Sciences Po, a entamé un voyage en novembre 2024.  Un voyage ayant accouché d'un livre « Voyage en France Australe » publié récemment. Als Geiger hat er mit allen wichtigen Ensembles der Alten-Musik-Szene konzertiert. Als Dirigent ist er Garant für ungewöhnliche, frische Aufnahmen und wird genau deshalb längst auch von großen Orchestern wie den Berliner Philharmonikern oder dem Concertgebouw Amsterdam ans Pult geholt. Mit seiner sprühenden Energie sorgt Minasi für mitreißende Aufführungserlebnisse: Voll burlesker Agilität, voll expressiver Poesie und Tiefe.

Das hr-Jazzensemble experimentierte im Juli '25 erneut im Klanglabor des Hessischen Rundfunks. Es ist die älteste kontinuierlich bestehende Combo des modernen Jazz in Deutschland, eines der ältesten Ensembles weltweit. Auf dem 6. Deutschen Jazzfestival Frankfurt 1958 erklärte der hr-Intendant Eberhard Beckmann die "German Allstars" um Albert Mangelsdorff zum "Jazzensemble des Hessischen Rundfunks". Es sollte für den Sender arbeiten und hatte schnell einen so ausgezeichneten Ruf, dass internationale Stars Schlange standen, um mitzuspielen. (Sendung vom 15.9.)

2016 haben die Bandmitglieder der „Drahtzieher“ aus Ravensburg sich auf einem Festival zu Ehren der Gypsy-Swing-Legende Django Reinhardt kennengelernt: Bobby Guttenberger (Gitarre) stammt aus einer uralten Sinti-Familie in Ravensburg - Kontrabassist Kolja Legde und Gitarrist David Klüttig wohnen bei ihm quasi um die Ecke. Im Trio ergänzen sich die drei Musiker perfekt und präsentieren sich als großartige Geschichtenerzähler. Es gibt unzählige Ensembles, die bis heute die Klassiker von Django Reinhardt interpretieren, aber nur wenige haben dem „Gypsy-Jazz“ auch neue Impulse eingehaucht. Zu diesen Ausnahmen gehört zweifelsohne das Trio „Die Drahtzieher“. Beim Label Fine Music haben die Musiker nun ihr neues Album „Mer Diga Men“ veröffentlicht - das ist Romanes und bedeutet so viel wie „Wir sehen uns". Überschäumend und mitreißend ist diese hervorragend abgemischte Produktion der drei Instrumentalisten - meint unser Jazzkritiker Georg Waßmuth.

Die Fantasien von Henry Purcell zählen heute zu den beliebtesten Stücken für Gambenconsort – auch wenn sie die letzte Komposition für diese Art Ensemblemusik sind. Henry Purcell ist einer der letzten Komponisten, der Musik für Gambenconsort komponiert hat. Danach starb die Gattung aus; die Violine und ihre Virtuosität eroberte die Musikwelt. Henry Purcell ist in seinem kurzen Leben eigentlich mit anderen Werken berühmt geworden: seinen Opern, Schauspielmusiken und Songs. Doch seine Fantasien für drei- bis siebenstimmiges Gambenconsort sind heute so beliebt, dass sie in zahlreichen Aufnahmen vorliegen. Die komplexen kontrapunktischen Studien mit spannungsgeladenen Dissonanzen lassen den Interpretinnen und Interpreten in der Gestaltung viele Freiheiten, die von den Ensembles in den letzten Jahren immer weiter ausgereizt wurden. Johann Sebastian Bachs Musikalisches Opfer gehört zweifellos zu dieser Kategorie. Das Ensemble Diderot unter der Leitung von Johannes Pramsohler hat sich nun mit einer neuen Aufnahme diesem faszinierenden Kosmos gewidmet. Michael Gmasz ist begeistert.Die Geschichte ist bekannt – und doch immer wieder erzählenswert: Im Jahr 1747 besucht Bach seinen Sohn Carl Philipp Emmanuel am Hofe des Preußenkönigs Friedrich II. in Potsdam. Der König, selbst passionierter Flötist, gibt dem Thomaskantor ein Thema – das sogenannte „Königliche Thema“. Bach improvisiert, nimmt es mit nach Hause und komponiert daraus ein musikalisches Monument: das Musikalische Opfer. Johannes Pramsohler, der Gründer und künstlerische Leiter des Ensembles Diderot, ist ein Musiker mit Forschergeist und feinem Gespür für historische Klangwelten. Seine Interpretationen sind nie akademisch – sie sind lebendig, atmend und voller Energie. Und genau das spürt man auch in dieser Aufnahme: Die Musikerinnen und Musiker des Ensemble Diderot sind nicht nur exzellente Solist:innen, sondern auch ein eingeschworenes Kollektiv, das sich mit Hingabe und Neugier dem musikalischen Dialog widmet.Die Besetzung ist bewusst kammermusikalisch gehalten – ganz im Sinne Bachs, der das Werk nicht für eine bestimmte Instrumentierung vorgab. So entsteht ein intimer, fast privater Klangraum, in dem sich die Stimmen begegnen, umkreisen, widerspiegeln. Besonders in der abschließenden Triosonate wird deutlich, wie fein aufeinander abgestimmt die Musiker agieren: Da wird nicht nur gespielt, sondern zugehört, reagiert, gestaltet. Besonders hervorzuheben ist die Transparenz des Klangs: Jeder Kontrapunkt, jede motivische Wendung wird hörbar gemacht, ohne dass die Musik je trocken wirkt. Mit dieser Bach-Aufnahme beweist das Ensemble Diderot erneut, dass es nicht nur musikalisch, sondern auch konzeptionell zu den spannendsten Ensembles der Alte-Musik-Szene gehören. (mg)

Jede 8. Person in der Schweiz singt mindestens einmal pro Woche, viele davon in Chören. Die Schweiz hat eine der höchsten Chor-Dichten Europas: Weltliche Laienchöre, Kinderchöre, Profi-Ensembles und auch auf vielen Kirchenemporen wird fleissig geprobt. Was beschäftigt die Schweizer Chöre? Wir haben nachgefragt bei unterschiedlichen Ensembles und ordnen ein. Dazu zu Gast bei Kultur-Talk der Chordirigent Patrick Secchiari. Er leitet mehrere Chöre, darunter das Vokalensemble ardent, die Kammerchöre in Seftigen und Glarus und der Teamchor Jona und ist für die musikalische Leitung und den Chor der Thuner Seespiele zuständig. Ausserdem hat Patrick Secchiari an der Hochschule der Künste Bern Chorleitung unterrichtet. Weiter ist er Mitherausgeber verschiedener Chorbände wie Tour de Suisse und Swiss Choral Music.

Marco Grob, Fotograf und Regisseur trifft auf Schauspielerin Hedy Kaufmann. Bei Dani Fohrler geben die beiden Einblick in ihr Leben. Marco Grob (60), Fotograf und Regisseur Marco Grob lässt sich nicht blenden, wenn er auf den Auslöser seiner Kamera drückt. Er sucht die Wahrheit. Seine Porträts wirken, als hätte man einen kurzen Blick in die Seele der Abgebildeten erhascht – egal, ob es Präsidenten, Hollywood-Superstars oder einfache Menschen in Extremsituationen sind. Die Leidenschaft für die Fotografie packte ihn schon als Teenager. Sein erstes Studio richtete er im Keller des Elternhauses in Olten ein. Der gelernte Maschinenzeichner zog unmittelbar nach seiner Lehre in die grosse, weite Welt. Von New York aus startete er schliesslich eine beeindruckende Karriere. Er hat nicht nur unzählige internationale Berühmtheiten fotografiert, sondern war unter anderem als Fotograf für das «Time Magazine» rund um den Globus unterwegs. Dabei dokumentierte er auch schwierige Themen – etwa die Arbeit der UNO im Kampf gegen Landminen. Im Zentrum seiner Arbeit steht stets die Geschichte hinter dem Gesicht. Dafür brennt er. Auch heute noch – nun wieder hauptsächlich von Olten aus. Hedy Kaufmann (90), Schauspielerin Seit ihrem ersten Bühnenauftritt als Kind lebt Hedy Kaufmann für das Theater. Ihr Vater - Balser Kriminalkommissar - betrieb nebenbei unter anderem eine Märchenbühne. Der kleinen Hedy schrieb er ihre ersten Rollen auf den Leib. Mit unbändiger Energie und grossem Charme steht sie auch mit neunzig Jahren noch auf der Bühne – nicht, weil sie muss, sondern weil sie mit ihrer Spielfreude gar nicht anders kann. Sie ist Teil eines besonderen Ensembles des «Kulturhuus Häbse» in Basel. Die Schauspielerinnen und Schauspieler dort sind zwischen 65 und 90 Jahre alt. Ihre Produktionen sind Publikumsmagnete – stets ausverkauft. Das Ensemble «Die Dritte – e goldigi Generation» bietet humorvolles Theater in Baseldeutsch. Hedy Kaufmann war zweimal verheiratet. Die dreifache Mutter lebt heute allein in ihrer liebevoll eingerichteten Wohnung in Basel – und fühlt sich dort - als Alleinlebende - wie sie sagt, «vögeliwohl». __________________________________________________________________ Moderation: Dani Fohrler

Die 1631 komponierte Johannes-Passion des Renaissance-Meisters Christoph Demantius, interpretiert vom herausragenden Ensemble Polyharmonique unter der Leitung von Alexander Schneider, lässt uns in die faszinierende Klangwelt der frühbarocken Passionsmusik eintauchen.Dass man Christoph Demantius heute weitgehend vergessen hat, ist eines jener musikhistorischen Rätsel, die nur schwer zu erklären sind. Der 1567 in Böhmen geborene und bis zu seinem Tod 1643 in Freiberg als Kantor wirkende Komponist hat ein umfangreiches Werk hinterlassen, aus dem seine Johannes-Passion wie ein einsamer Monolith herausragt. Entstanden im Jahr 1631, lange vor den bekannten Passionen von Bach und seinen Zeitgenossen, stellt dieses Werk eine der bemerkenswertesten Passionsvertonungen aus der Spätrenaissance bzw. der frühen Barockzeit dar – und das Ensemble Polyharmonique verleiht ihm nun in einer faszinierenden Neuaufnahme frisches Leben.Im Gegensatz zu späteren Passionen gibt es hier keine Rollenverteilung mit Solisten und Chor – die gesamte Erzählung wird in einer kunstvollen sechsstimmigen Polyphonie vorgetragen, bei der jede Stimme gleichermaßen am Geschehen beteiligt ist. Die Intensität, mit der Text und Musik miteinander verbunden sind, sucht ihresgleichen. Die klangliche Transparenz und die filigrane Stimmführung des Ensemble Polyharmonique sind dabei schlichtweg atemberaubend. Alexander Schneider, selbst Sänger und Gründer des Ensembles, hat für diese Aufnahme zudem einen behutsam zusammengestellten musikalischen Rahmen geschaffen: Werke von Andreas Hammerschmidt, Heinrich Schütz und Johann Hermann Schein ergänzen Demantius' Passion zu einem klanglich abwechslungsreichen Programm, das uns ein lebendiges Bild eines mitteldeutschen Karfreitagsgottesdienstes jener Epoche vermittelt. Wer sich auf diese außergewöhnliche Passionsmusik einlässt, wird mit einem tiefen Hörerlebnis belohnt, das weit über die Karwoche hinaus nachhallt! (mg)

The designs were influenced by military chic, cinema such as Nosferatu (1922) and Cabaret (1972), 1920s flapper fashion, and the French Revolution. The show marked the first appearance of the skull motif that became a signature of the brand.The collection's runway show was staged on 21 February 2001 at the Gatliff Road Warehouse in London, as part of London Fashion Week. It was McQueen's final show in London; all his future collections were presented in Paris. Sixty-two looks were presented in the main runway show, with at least six more in the finale. The show was staged in a dark room with a carousel at the centre. “Students will often refer to voice lessons, to choir rehearsal, as therapy. I felt that there was something to that. I wanted to make the connection between individual therapy and voice lessons and group therapy and the choral rehearsal. What is it about the choral organism that becomes a space that can be therapeutic? I found a lot of commonalities in group and individual counseling and what we do.”Dr. Sarah J. Graham was just promoted to Professor of Music at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho, where she teaches courses in music, humanities, ethics, and conducts the Concert Choir. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Whitworth University, a Master of Arts in Classroom Teaching and English from Pacific Lutheran University, and both a Masters and Doctorate in Music Conducting from Michigan State University. She is currently finishing a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling through Capella University in Minneapolis. Dr. Graham has been teaching for over thirty years, twenty of which have been in higher education. Much of her current work has to do with mental health and teaching pedagogy. She recently spent her sabbatical working on an internship in counseling and compiling a 15-week guide for incorporating “Mental Health Moments” into the classroom. Michael Gmasz gratuliert ganz herzlich!2015 von Absolventen der Guidhall School of Music und der Royal Academy of Music gegründet, hat sich das Mela Gitarren Quartett in den vergangenen zehn Jahren als eines der herausragenden Ensembles seiner Art etabliert und feiert heuer sein 10-Jahresjubiläum mit einer neuen CD Einspielung. 2023 hat eine größere Umbesetzung stattgefunden, die nun einen qualitätvollen Schritt in die Zukunft erlaubt, und mit dem Gewinn des prestigeträchtigen Wettbewerbes der Guitar Foundation of America jüngst einen Höhepunkt gefeiert hat. Auf CD melden sich die Melas nun erstmals in neuer Besetzung ausschließlich mit Bearbeitungen von Ouvertüren und Tänzen, die ursprünglich für Orchester bzw. Klavier entstanden sind.Die Auswahl von Werken ist dabei genauso abwechslungsreich wie die Bearbeitung derselben. Das reicht von hochvirtuosen Arrangements wie der eröffnenden Ruslan und Ljudmilla Ouvertüre von Glinka oder Camille Saint-Saëns Danse Bacchanale aus der Oper Samson et Dalila bis hin zu sehr zarten und einfühlsamen Tönen und Klängen bei Debussys zwei Arabesken oder der Ouvertüre zu Humperdincks Hänsel und Gretel. Dazwischen wird mit Holst, Elgar, Ravel, Rachmaninow oder auch Joe Hisaishi getanzt. Hier wird Gitarrenensemblemusik auf allerhöchstem Niveau geboten, technisch brillant, mit allen Spielarten, die modernes „klassisches“ Gitarrenspiel kennt und musikalisch absolut überzeugend. The Loveland Marching Band won the Colorado 4A State Marching Band Championship and the Class AA Championship at the Bands of America Super Regional in San Antonio, Texas. Arau began his teaching career in 1997 as the Director of Bands at Walt Clark Middle School in Loveland, Colorado. The Walt Clark Honor Band was featured at the Colorado Music Educators Association Convention in 2003.Mr. Arau's professional affiliations include the College Band Directors National Association, the National Association for Music Education and the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles. This week Nick Averwater continues his conversation with Michael Parsons, Director of Instrumental and Popular Music at Briarcrest Christian School in Memphis, TN. Michael is also Director of Sound Fuzion, a pop vocal ensemble at the University of Memphis.In this episode we'll learn more about how Michael uses pop music ensembles like Soundscape, which is a group of 16 instrumentalists and vocalists, to recruit students for Briarcrest's many music ensembles. This is it! The final episode of 2024. Happy New Years! Goodbye to the title of MOVIEHUMPERS. For 2025 GOING forward we are THE PROJECTORS. We jump into next month's theme as early as tomorrow but we close out a most wonderful time of the year with a New Year's themed flick that we probably liked a little better in our youth. We were certainly the target age range in terms of “pitching coolness” with this ensemble featuring young stars who got their starts in the eighties and nineties. Ensembles can definitely be a challenge. You can't deep dive into everyone but you really got to establish some personality and spin a lot of plates and it can be confusing to know when your character is funny or if they're just annoying. Sure, we can see ourselves in some of the characters in this setting of New Year's Eve in 1981 New York City but sometimes the abyss stares back at you. Risa Bramon Garcia's only feature film is the holiday ensemble “200 CIGARETTES” from 1999 and it stars many such as Paul Rudd, Christina Ricci, Kate Hudson, Ben Affleck, Martha Plimpton, Courtney Love and Dave Chappell among many others. Elvis Costello is also in this and based on some evidence we see at the end of this film we think that Elvis may have done something very very bad. Like Cosby style bad. Maybe he did maybe he didn't but there's some smoke and the implications are there. We should probably detain him and ask some questions at the very least. Goodbye, MOVIEHUMPERS.
