How you react to times in which you are separated from your husband or wife reveals much about the depth of your love for one another. If a separation for a few weeks is treated with indifference and the heart does not yearn to be reunited, how can such a lukewarm reaction reveal a deep affection- If, however, such a separation of husband and wife only increases the longing and desire to be in the arms of one another, does that not reveal a depth of love and affection- What is true of your earthly marriage is especially true of your heavenly marriage to the Lord Jesus. Do you hunger and thirst to be with Jesus or do you seldom even think about it- Do you care- True love cares.----A test that the Lord has given to evaluate our love for Jesus is whether we long to see Him face to face and to enjoy uninterrupted communion with Him forever in heaven -2 Timothy 4-8-. It is the love of this world that will hinder you from longing to be with Jesus. When your heart and affections are firmly fixed upon this world, why would you want to leave it to be with Jesus -Matthew 6-21-- Are you grasping so tightly to this world that Christ's coming -whether His coming for you at death or at His Second Coming- hardly affects your love and obedience to Him-----As we conclude our study of the Song of Solomon, let us focus our attention upon these two truths from our text- -1- Jesus Longs to Hear the Voice of His Beloved Bride -Song 8-13-- -2- The Bride Longs to Be with Her Beloved Savior -Song 8-14-.

THE SUPREMACY OF CHRIST 2 COL. 1:18 Introduction: Jesus Christ  Image of the invisible God  Firstborn over al creation  By Him all things were created  In Heaven and on earth  Visible, invisible, thrones, powers, rulers and authorities  You name it, He created it  He is before all things, and remains eternal  In Him all things hold together  Verse 18 introduces us to three more titles 1.He is the head of the body, the church  After dealing with the cosmic significance of the Son in his eternal being  Brings us now to Christ and the church  Note the church is not described as a body of Christians  He is the head of the church, without Him the church is dead  This link between Christ and the church exists by the in dwelling of the Holy Spirit  On His resurrection day Jesus became the head of the church  On that day He breathed the Holy Spirit on them and said receive the Holy Spirit  This was for regeneration, it is a verb indicating that Jesus was giving the Spirit in order to bring forth life and a new creation  But church is the body of Christ: critical truth  That is why whoever persecutes the church on earth is persecuting Christ in heaven  When Saul was still breathing murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples, Jesus showed up and spoke to him  He did not say why are you persecuting my children, followers, my disciples  He said Why are you persecuting me  Whoever touches you, touches Jesus in heaven  Therefore learn to keep your focus, leave your battles to the Lord  Fulfill your purpose, accomplish your mandate  Don’t focus on things that will cause you to disengage  Don’t focus on things that delay you  Don’t be scared, don’t give up, don’t give in, keep the pace  The Lord is coming soon, time is running out, run, run faster  The church operates by His power  The church functions as his representatives: represent Him well  As the head of the body, the body is totally dependent on Him  As the Head He is the command center for every member in the body, and for the body as a unit  He is the command center for every activity in the body 2.He is the beginning  Rev. 22:13 Read  He is the Alpha and the Omega  The beginning and the end  There is no beginning without Him  Every beginning stems from Him  There is no end without Him  He remains Jesus even at the end of everything 3.He is the firstborn from among the dead  This is about His rank  He died and He rose again  But Lazarus rose from the dead  So did Dorcas and Eutychus  They were resuscitated but He was resurrected  The difference between resuscitation and resurrection  With resuscitation the person keeps the same body and therefore will die at some point  With resurrection, there is a new and different body  According to 1 Cor. 15  The perishable body is raised imperishable  The body sown in dishonor is raised in glory  A body sown a natural body is raised a spiritual body  When Jesu comes, some will be transformed and some will be resurrected, but for the church, we shall all be like Him  Why: Rev 1:17-18. He is alive for ever and ever What does it mean for the church, His body  God placed all things under His feet and appointed Him head over everything for the church  Which is the body, the fullness of Him who fills everything in every way  The fullness of Christ resides in His body  The church, by virtue of it being the body of Christ, may partake of all that Jesus Christ is and possesses  This for the purpose of continuing His mission and ministry in the world  The Holy Spirit helps us to reproduce the life, ministry and mission of Jesus Christ  We function as the representatives of Jesus Christ  And now God has kept you and I alive on earth and alive in Christ  Re commit yourself to this cause  Re dedicate yourself to his plan, his mission and his mandate  Lord lif

This is our virtual Sunday School Lesson for March 15, 2020. Follow along here, or download these notes.Today we are discussing the birth of our Savior as recorded in the first chapter of Luke’s gospel. Before you begin the podcast, make sure you have your Bible, a notepad  or journal, pens, pencils, highlighters, etc.If you don't have your Daily Discipleship Guide (Sunday School Book), you can Download Daily Discipleship Guide. Study notes and questions for discussion:The Son of God came into the world as a lowly baby, born of the young virgin Mary. This tiny bundle of joy, both fully man and fully God, left the glory of heaven in order to rescue His people from their sins. God’s people had been waiting for centuries for their promised King. As they were on the lookout for a powerful deliverer to arrive on the scene, the humble servant Jesus quietly descended to earth in a way no one expected. The promised Messiah had appeared, though His arrival took shape in such a quiet, meek way that most did not recognize it. In this session, we will take a look at just a few of the truths surrounding Christ’s birth that point to His coming to earth to bring majestic rescue to His precious people. 1. Jesus was born to be the promised eternal King (Luke 1:26-33).Turn to page 28 in your Daily Discipleship Guide and read Luke 1:26-33. On page 28, fill in the blanks:The virgin birth affirms that the eternal Son of God took on human flesh. The virgin birth is significant in that it serves as a reminder of Old Testament prophecies (Isaiah. 7) while also affirming both the deity and humanity of Christ. What are some reasons Christians must affirm, believe, and defend the supernatural conception and virgin birth of Jesus? (pause the podcast and write your responses in your notepad or journal)2. Jesus was born to be the promised mighty Savior (Luke 1:51-55). Turn to page 29 in your Daily Discipleship Guide and I read Luke 1:51-55. Notice the tense of the verbs used to describe God’s actions in this passage. If you mark in your Bible, underline, circle or highlight the verbs in this passage. When you find yourself in a difficult, unstable season of life (perhaps like the one we are in today), how can the reality of God’s sovereignty and power help you endure faithfully? (pause the podcast and write your responses in your notepad or journal)Why is our merciful Savior better than just a powerful one? (pause the podcast and write your responses in your notepad or journal)3. Jesus was born to be the promised humble Servant (Luke 2:4-7).Turn in your Daily Discipleship Guide to page 30 and read Luke 2:4-7.What are some positive examples of condescension (humility) that you have witnessed or experienced?  (pause the podcast and write your responses in your notepad or journal)Read Philippians 2:5-8On page 30 in your Daily Discipleship Guide, fill in the blanks:Christ’s Humiliation: Although God the Son was equal with God and worthy of all the glory God receives, He chose to humble Himself by taking on human flesh. He left His glorious state and came in the likeness of sinful flesh, and He experienced a humiliating death on a cross by becoming sin for us so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.As we conclude this Bible study, I want to ask you these questions to ponder all week long, and the rest of your life:How will you honor God the Son’s condescension to this earth to save sinners? Will you commit yourself every day to living for Jesus by surrendering your life anew to Him? Will you allow the Holy Spirit to guide you in action and speech? With whom will share your praises of our mighty Savior so that they would come to Him in faith for salvation from sin, humbling themselves before Him?As daily follow up to keep this Bible study alive in your mind during the week, turn to pages 32-34 in your Daily Discipleship Guide. Will you devote yourself to completing each day’s assignment? Remember, you must take the initiative with your own discipleship. And will you take the initiative to be responsible for the God-given mandate to disciple you own family?

We all want to hear from God. Somewhere within - even in those who don't believe in God - our souls cry out to be heard, known and loved by God. But are we willing to quiet ourselves and the world around us in order to hear Him? As guest pastor, David Burke, shares this week: If we expect that He only speaks in loud, mountain top experiences, then we'll become very disappointed at how little we hear from Him. Because while God does speak to us like that, most often he comes to us in the whisper...

Prayer is the very thing that brings vitality to the armor of God in the battle. Without prayer, the armor of a believer can get stiff and out of place. Prayer acts as the essential oil to lubricate the armor to work the way it is designed to work through dependence upon Christ and His strength. Our prayer life is an indicator of who we are depending to over in the battle. Ephesians chapter 6:18-20 is the best way to put on display our practical understanding of Ephesians 6:10. Even in our prayer life, we need the power of Christ (through the Holy Spirit) to pray as we ought. This is a reminder that in our weakness and lack of endurance in prayer, we can rest in Christ's perfect prayer life, death and resurrection to bring forgiveness and empower us each day to depend on Him through a growing prayer life. As we depend upon Him in the power of the Spirit our prayers eventually grow from our own personal requests to also include those of others in the body of Christ, and then toward further advancement of the Gospel with great clarity and courage. How are you engaging prayer? Where do you need to rest in the forgiveness of Christ and let him strengthen you to depend upon Him? As we move forward into 2020, please engage in these three areas of prayer with one another beginning in Life Communities and going into men's and women's time. 1. (Grind) Share practical life situations for prayer 2. (Gospel Clarity) Praying for neighboring and work and practical gospel engagement. 3. (Guts) Prayer for boldness and clarity to communicate the values of the Kingdom and gospel message in word and deed in areas of life). The Westminster Catechism begins with the question: What is the chief end of man? The answer provides a succinct way of thinking about our primary purpose in life: Man’s chief end is to glorify God and to enjoy him forever. As we consider this ‘purpose statement’ we tend to pay a lot of attention to the first part, and rightly so! We should give our lives to pursuing the glory of God. But there’s a reason for the second part: The Bible has a lot to say about our enjoyment of God and the joy we have in Him (Psalm 16:11; Philippians 4:4). But that leads to an important question: Is God our true and ultimate source of joy? Or we could ask the question this way: Do we long to draw near to God? Do we yearn for Him and desire Him? As we come to Psalm 84 we read the testimony of a man who longing for God. He longs to be near to the presence of God. He also expresses that there is joy, or blessedness, to be had by those who long for God.
