Celeste's Fingers Were Removed Because Of THIS

Celeste Rivas Hernandez's fingers were removed because of this, according to a detail buried in a prosecution court brief that hasn't gotten the attention it should. We start there and work backward through everything else that came out at the d4vd preliminary hearing. A call left David Burke's phone at 12:04 in the morning, from a remote road in Santa Barbara County, to Celeste's number, hours after prosecutors say she had already died. Nobody answered. An LAPD criminalist testified about Bluestar reactions across a garage floor, rubber mats, the bricks beneath them, a rowing machine, a tarp, a charging cord, and a bag of wipes, all presumptive positive. The defense got that same witness to concede she can't call any of it definitively blood, and pointed to two chainsaws never swabbed for DNA. Then the hearing's final session, the one prosecutors built their case around. A medical examiner testified Celeste died from two sharp-force wounds and had been dead for weeks before her remains were found. A detective walked the court through her phone, messages dating to when she was eleven, close to fifty images labeled illegal material involving a minor, and texts from January 2024 showing she was thirteen and pregnant. Her mother cried through the testimony. Burke has pleaded not guilty to every count against him. A bindover ruling is expected soon, and we go through what the evidence actually supports before that decision comes down. None of it is decided yet. That call belongs to a judge, not to this podcast. Links Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? What was on Celeste Rivas Hernandez's fingers before prosecutors say two of them were removed. That's the detail sitting in a court brief that most coverage of this case hasn't touched, and it's the thread running through everything we cover in this breakdown of the d4vd preliminary hearing. A call went out from David Burke's phone at 12:04 in the morning, from an empty stretch of road in Santa Barbara County, to Celeste's number, hours after prosecutors say she was already dead. An LAPD criminalist testified that Bluestar sprayed across a garage floor lit up on rubber mats, the bricks beneath them, a rowing machine, a tarp, a charging cord, and a trash bag of wipes. All presumptive positive. Defense attorney Blair Berk pushed back hard, getting the criminalist to admit she can't call it definitively blood, and raising two chainsaws that were never swabbed. Then the hearing's final session. The medical examiner testified Celeste died from two sharp-force wounds and had been dead for weeks before her body was found. A detective walked jurors through her phone records, messages dating back to when she was eleven years old, close to fifty images labeled illegal material involving a minor, and texts from January 2024 showing she was thirteen and pregnant. Her mother cried in the gallery through the testimony. Burke has pleaded not guilty to every count. The bindover ruling is expected soon. We take every piece of evidence the state put forward and hand it to the defense to answer. None of it lands on a jury's desk until a judge weighs every piece of it first. Links Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Why two of Celeste Rivas Hernandez's fingers were missing is a question prosecutors answered in a court brief most people covering this case have skipped past. Tonight we don't skip past it. Start with the timeline. At 12:04 in the morning, from a desolate road off Highway 154, David Burke's phone called Celeste's number, hours after prosecutors say she was already dead. An LAPD criminalist described spraying Bluestar across the garage, getting strong reactions on rubber mats, the bricks underneath, a rowing machine, a tarp, a cord, and a bag of wipes. All presumptive positive. Blair Berk, for the defense, got that same criminalist to admit under cross-examination that none of it can be called definitively blood, and pointed to two chainsaws that were never swabbed for touch DNA at all. Then the hearing's final and heaviest session. A medical examiner testified Celeste died of two sharp-force wounds and had been dead for weeks before she was found. A detective walked the court through her phone, messages tracing to when she was eleven, close to fifty images investigators labeled illegal material involving a minor, and texts from January 2024 indicating she was thirteen and pregnant. Her mother cried in the courtroom gallery. Her father stared at the floor. Burke has pleaded not guilty. A judge decides soon whether this case reaches a jury, and tonight we walk through everything the state has put on the record so far. None of it is settled tonight. A judge still has to decide if it goes further. Links Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? d4vd has a music video where his character drags a body into a car. Prosecutors are now alleging he did that, for real, to a fourteen-year-old girl. We put the fictional version and the criminal allegation side by side. Before any of this, David Burke was a homeschooled kid recording songs on an iPhone in his sister's closet, building a following inside Fortnite lobbies. Prosecutors say that's also where he met Celeste Rivas Hernandez, when both were still teenagers, years before his career took off. Signed to Darkroom and Interscope at seventeen, Burke created an alter ego, Itami, meaning pain, an agent of chaos he described wearing a blindfold, a concept pulled from a manga about a detective whose alter ego commits the murders he solves. The comparison he used himself was Tyler Durden. His videos showed the character with a bloody knife and, in another, taking a woman's arm. The forensic case built during the preliminary hearing doesn't rely on any of that. A trace analyst matched cuts on a garage pool to fragments recovered on Celeste's leggings. DNA tied both the Tesla and the home to her. A criminalist described real blood scrubbed from the garage floor, feet from containers of fake blood. Cell tower records placed Burke's Tesla in Santa Barbara County three times after Celeste allegedly died. She was fourteen, went to his home on April 23, 2025, and was never heard from again. Her remains were found in the Tesla months later. Burke has pleaded not guilty to murder, illegal acts involving a minor, and mutilation of human remains. We walk through what the physical evidence actually shows. Links Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? There's a music video where d4vd drags a body across the floor and loads it into a car. Prosecutors now allege he did the same thing his character did, to a fourteen-year-old girl, and that overlap is the thread running through everything else in this case. Before the fame, David Burke was a homeschooled teenager recording songs on an iPhone in his sister's closet, building an audience inside Fortnite lobbies. Prosecutors say that's also where he met Celeste Rivas Hernandez, years before either of them were adults, and the relationship kept going while no adult around either of them intervened. At seventeen, signed to Darkroom and Interscope, Burke created an alter ego called Itami, pain in Japanese, an agent of chaos wearing a blindfold, a concept he traced to a manga about a detective whose alter ego commits the murders he then has to solve. He compared it to Tyler Durden. The videos put a bloody knife and a severed arm on screen. Then the forensic testimony from the preliminary hearing. A trace analyst matched cuts on a garage pool to fragments on Celeste's clothing. DNA tied the Tesla and the home to her. A criminalist described blood scrubbed from the garage floor, steps from containers of fake blood. Cell tower records tracked Burke's Tesla to Santa Barbara County three separate times after she allegedly died. Celeste went to Burke's Hollywood Hills home on April 23, 2025. She was fourteen. Her remains were found in his Tesla months later. Burke has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder, illegal acts involving a minor, and mutilation of human remains. We go through the persona, the industry that profited from it, and the physical evidence now on the record. Links Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? There's a video that exists before any of this happened, where d4vd plays a character dragging a body into a car. Prosecutors are now alleging he did the real version of that scene to a fourteen-year-old, and tonight we sit with what that overlap actually means. David Burke's story starts small. Homeschooled, recording in his sister's closet, building an audience in Fortnite lobbies. Prosecutors say that's where he met Celeste Rivas Hernandez, both of them still teenagers, and the connection continued for years without anyone in either of their lives stepping in. At seventeen, newly signed to Darkroom and Interscope, Burke introduced an alter ego, Itami, the Japanese word for pain, an agent of chaos wearing a blindfold, built from a manga concept about a detective whose double commits the murders he investigates. He put that character on camera holding a knife, taking a woman's arm. Then the physical evidence entered the record. Investigators matched cuts on an inflatable pool in Burke's garage to fragments found on Celeste's leggings. DNA connected the Tesla and the home directly to her. A criminalist testified about real blood scrubbed from the garage near shelves of fake blood used for props. Cell tower data placed the Tesla in Santa Barbara County three times in the weeks after she allegedly died. She was fourteen when she went to his home on April 23, 2025, and was never heard from again. Her remains surfaced in his Tesla months later, the day after what would have been her fifteenth birthday. Burke has pleaded not guilty. Tonight we trace the character, the industry around him, and the forensic case now in front of a judge. Links Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Start with the paperwork instead of the crime scenes. In 2008 an Ohio judge approved a marriage for a girl who was fifteen and seven months pregnant. In 2024 California deputies documented that they had told David Burke how old Celeste Rivas Hernandez really was. Two records, two dead ends. One full conversation covering both the d4vd case in Los Angeles and the Siders 16 kids case in Vinton County, Ohio. The evidence segment walks through what a preliminary hearing has put in front of a judge. An LAPD criminalist testified that presumptive testing produced strong reactions on the rubber mats covering a Hollywood Hills garage floor and on the bricks under them. There were positives on a rowing machine, a green tarp, a charging cord and a trash bag containing wipes. A blue inflatable pool with nothing visible on it glowed in one area, and a second criminalist matched plastic fragments from the autopsy into the cuts in that pool. Blair Berk's entire cross has been about what nobody tested. The second segment goes back to who David Burke was. Homeschooled after seventh grade, raised on gospel music until thirteen, signed to a major label at seventeen, and the author of an alter ego named Itami who commits murders in his own videos. The third brings in retired FBI special agent Robin Dreeke for Ohio. Sixteen children removed from a home in Hamden. A room measuring roughly twelve feet by twelve, according to the sheriff. An attorney general who said waiting longer would very likely have meant a death or multiple deaths. Four adults charged with sixteen counts of endangering children each, all pleading not guilty. Two files, two states, and the same missing piece in both of them.Burke has pleaded not guilty and denies all wrongdoing through his attorneys. The connection between these two cases is not the crime. It is the signature. Ohio put a marriage license in front of a judge for a fifteen-year-old who was seven months pregnant, and it was approved. California deputies documented telling David Burke how old Celeste Rivas Hernandez was, and filed it.Everything in one place: the d4vd evidence conversation, the David Burke origin conversation, and the Siders 16 kids conversation with retired FBI special agent Robin Dreeke.Start in a Los Angeles courtroom, where an LAPD criminalist described spraying a Hollywood Hills garage and watching the floor mats react, then the bricks underneath. Then a rowing machine, a green tarp, a charging cord, and a trash bag holding wipes and a scrap of fabric. A blue inflatable pool that looked untouched still produced a glow, and a second criminalist fitted plastic fragments from the autopsy into the cuts in it. An alter ego named Itami, described in his own words as an agent of chaos, who commits murders in his videos. Then Ohio. Sixteen children, eighteen months to eighteen years, removed from a house in Hamden after a warrant tied to an unrelated matter. A room the sheriff said measured roughly twelve by twelve. An attorney general who said waiting longer would very likely have meant a death or multiple deaths. Four adults charged with sixteen counts of endangering children apiece. It went unanswered, and the car was back in the Hollywood Hills by about seven.Everything the state has shown at the d4vd preliminary hearing runs through one rented garage in the Hollywood Hills, and the defense has to answer for all of it.An LAPD criminalist told the court that a presumptive chemical test reacted strongly on the black rubber mats covering that garage floor, and again on the bricks she found underneath them. A rowing machine tested positive. A green tarp tested positive. A charging cord tested positive. A trash bag with wipes inside it tested positive. An inflatable pool that looked spotless and smelled fresh had one area glow under the same chemical, and a second criminalist later fit plastic fragments recovered during the autopsy into the cuts in that pool like puzzle pieces.Sitting a few feet from all of it were jugs and trays that tested negative and were written into the report without much fuss.Tony and Robin go item by item. Not to summarize the hearing — to interrogate it. What does the defense say about the pool? What does it say about the chain saw handles that were never swabbed for touch DNA? Or the third saw found in a closet and never collected, or the footwear impressions nobody could lift and nobody ever compared to a shoe?Blair Berk already got the state's own criminalist to say she cannot call it definitely blood. A label. A management team. Two sheriff's departments. Every one of them had a piece of the picture, and prosecutors say the relationship at the center of it began when Celeste Rivas Hernandez was young enough that the number alone ends most conversations.Long before the d4vd preliminary hearing, David Burke sat down for an interview and explained a character he had invented. He said he was writing a manga about a detective. The detective had an evil version of himself who showed up at random moments. That version committed murders. The detective then had to solve them.He named the character Itami, which means pain in Japanese. He called him an agent of chaos and compared him to Tyler Durden in Fight Club. Then he put him in the work. A bloody knife in one video. An animated sequence in another. A video before his debut album in which Burke drags a body and loads it into the trunk of a car.Tony and Robin use that as the doorway into a bigger question: who was this young man before any of it? Homeschooled after seventh grade. Gospel music only until thirteen. A social life built entirely inside gaming lobbies. Signed to a major label at seventeen with a valuation in the millions and no anchor anywhere near him. They also give the other argument its full weight. Violent art is not proof of violence, and treating lyrics as confessions is how innocent people get railroaded. But prosecutors allege Burke did the specific thing his character was written to do, and a whole machine of executives and managers watched a nineteen-year-old sell his own darkness without anyone asking what was underneath it.Burke has pleaded not guilty and denies all wrongdoing through his attorneys. Almost everything social in his life happened through a screen. His mother pushed him to stop crying about copyright strikes and make his own songs, and two years later he was seventeen, still in high school, and signed to Interscope.Nobody handles that at seventeen. But the part that stops people cold is what he built alongside the career.Burke created an alter ego and named him Itami, which is Japanese for pain. He described the character on camera as an agent of chaos, an evil version of himself in a blindfold. The idea came from a manga he was writing about a detective whose alter ego commits murders, murders the detective then has to solve. His own comparison was Tyler Durden in Fight Club.He put it in the videos. A bloody knife. A woman described as the ghost of the person the character killed. An animated sequence where the character takes an arm. And a video in which Burke drags a body and loads it into a car.The counterargument matters and it gets its due here: violent art proves nothing by itself, and thousands of artists make it without ever harming a soul. But prosecutors allege Burke did the exact thing the character did. Tony and Robin follow that line all the way back — the isolation, the money, the industry that sold the darkness and never asked a single question.Burke has pleaded not guilty. Celeste Rivas Hernandez was fourteen years old.END_LINKSJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Testimony placed David Burke's phone and his Tesla off Highway 154 in Santa Barbara County in the small hours after prosecutors say Celeste Rivas Hernandez died. While he was out there, according to an LAPD detective, the phone made one outgoing call. It rang through.Three days of d4vd preliminary hearing testimony have turned one rented Hollywood Hills garage into the center of a murder case. The state's criminalist described spraying Bluestar and watching the floor mats react, then the bricks beneath them, then a rowing machine, a green tarp, a charging cord, and a trash bag holding wipes and a scrap of black fabric. She described a blue inflatable pool with nothing visible on it at all. It smelled fresh months later and had a dryer sheet clinging to it, and she testified that one area of it lit up under the chemical anyway. Another criminalist matched plastic fragments taken during the autopsy directly into the cuts in that pool. And in the middle of all of it, sitting in plain view, were jugs that came back negative.Tony and Robin work through the state's evidence piece by piece and ask how the defense answers each one, because Blair Berk is going to have an answer. She already got the criminalist to concede she cannot call the reaction definitely blood. She already put the untested chain saw handles on the record, along with the third saw pulled from a closet that investigators decided was not worth collecting. The alternate-suspect theory needs somebody else, and multiple people lived in that house. The state says her DNA is in his car and in his home. Somewhere between those two facts is the case.David Anthony Burke has pleaded not guilty and denies all wrongdoing through his attorneys. Celeste Rivas Hernandez was fourteen years old, and everything in that courtroom exists because she is not here.END_LINKSJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Every red flag in the Celeste Rivas Hernandez case got logged by somebody, and not one of them connected the dots in time. Tony Brueski breaks down the full D4vd case for True Crime Today, starting with a welfare check that should have ended very differently. Celeste was reported missing from Lake Elsinore three times in early 2024. That led Riverside County deputies to musician David Burke's phone number, and LA County deputies to his West Hollywood front door. Burke showed them a yearbook photo and claimed he'd met her only once. Deputies told him plainly that she was thirteen and a runaway, then left without further action. Prosecutors allege what came next was deliberate. Burke is accused of paying one of Celeste's junior high classmates a thousand dollars to hand her a new phone so contact could continue uninterrupted. Over the following year, prosecutors say she traveled with him to Las Vegas, London, and Texas, met his family, got matching tattoos, and had his name on her ring finger, all while still in seventh grade. The case takes an even stranger turn when you look at Burke's own music. His breakout single, the album it's from, and the alter ego he built around both all echo the allegations prosecutors are now making about a Hollywood Hills home. Seven months passed between investigators finding Celeste's remains and Burke's arrest, a stretch that included three grand jury panels, a friend fleeing to Montana to avoid a subpoena, and Burke's family fighting the grand jury in a Texas courtroom. He now faces first-degree murder with special circumstances, including lying in wait, murder for financial gain, and murder of a witness. That financial gain allegation is the piece prosecutors say ties everything back to Burke's career. Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Two sheriff's departments, one phone call, and a yearbook photo, that's as close as anyone came to stopping what happened to Celeste Rivas Hernandez. Tony Brueski lays out the full D4vd case for Hidden Killers, starting with the welfare check that should have changed everything and didn't. Celeste was reported missing from Lake Elsinore three separate times in early 2024. Riverside County deputies traced her phone records back to musician David Burke and called him. LA County deputies then went to Burke's West Hollywood home. He showed them a yearbook photo, claimed he'd met her once, and deputies told him straight to his face that she was thirteen and a runaway. Then they walked out the door. Prosecutors say what followed was calculated. Burke allegedly paid one of Celeste's junior high classmates a thousand dollars to slip her a new phone so contact never had to stop. Over the next year, she reportedly traveled with him to Las Vegas, London, and Texas, met his family, got matching tattoos, and had his name on her ring finger, all while she was still in seventh grade. Then there's the art. D4vd's biggest song, his album title, and the alter ego built around it all echo what prosecutors now allege took place inside a Hollywood Hills home. Seven months separated the discovery of Celeste's remains from Burke's arrest. Three grand jury panels heard testimony in that window. A friend fled to Montana to dodge a subpoena, and Burke's own family fought the grand jury in a Texas courtroom rather than answer questions. He now faces first-degree murder with special circumstances, including lying in wait, murder for financial gain, and murder of a witness. Prosecutors say the financial gain charge points directly at motive tied to Burke's public career. Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? A thirteen-year-old went missing three times, and two different sheriff's departments still couldn't stop what happened to her. Tony Brueski walks through the entire D4vd case for Hidden Killers Live, from the welfare check nobody escalated to the charges that followed. Celeste Rivas Hernandez disappeared from Lake Elsinore three times in early 2024 before her parents' reports led Riverside County deputies to musician David Burke's phone number. LA County deputies handled the welfare check at his West Hollywood home, where Burke pulled up a yearbook photo and said he barely knew her. Deputies confirmed her age and runaway status to his face, then left, closing out a report that should have triggered far more scrutiny than it did. According to prosecutors, that's when things accelerated. Burke allegedly paid a classmate of Celeste's a thousand dollars to deliver her a new phone so the two could keep talking. Over the year that followed, prosecutors say she traveled with him across the country and overseas, met his family, got matching tattoos, and wore his name on her ring finger while still in middle school. The unsettling part doesn't end there. D4vd's most successful song, the album it came from, and the persona built around both all mirror what prosecutors now allege happened inside a Hollywood Hills home. His debut album, released two days after prosecutors say Celeste Rivas Hernandez was killed, has a name that lands differently after the charges. A 2025 music video depicts imagery that mirrors the prosecution's allegations. This episode examines the art, the charges, and whether any of it matters at trial. It also examines a seven-month gap between the discovery of remains and the arrest. Three grand juries. A close friend who fled across the country to avoid testifying. Burke's own parents who challenged subpoenas in a Texas court rather than answer questions about a child who visited their home. The DA filed first-degree murder with special circumstances: lying in wait, financial gain, murder of a witness. Illegal material involving minors found on his iCloud. Forty terabytes of evidence. The preliminary hearing begins July 21, 2026.LINKS:Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? D4vd case — the reckoning. David Burke's breakout song, his debut album, and a music video he released in 2025 all carry names, titles, and imagery that take on a very different meaning after the charges filed by the Los Angeles DA. This episode examines those parallels and the legal question of whether any of it is admissible under California law.Beyond the art: the investigation moved slowly. Seven months between the discovery of Celeste Rivas Hernandez's remains and Burke's arrest. Three grand jury panels. His close friend arrested in Montana for fleeing a subpoena. His family challenging the grand jury in Texas courts. The LAPD blocking the coroner's report for months.Burke faces first-degree murder charges with special circumstances: lying in wait, financial gain, and murder of a witness. Prosecutors also found illegal material involving minors on his iCloud. Forty terabytes of evidence total. D4vd case final chapter — David Burke's music catalog reads differently after the charges. His breakout hit. His album title. A music video that shows imagery mirroring what prosecutors allege. Whether California's creative-expression protections keep any of it out of trial is an open question. What's not open is how it looks from the outside. This episode covers the investigation timeline from September 2025 through the April 2026 arrest. Why did the LAPD take seven months? Why was the coroner's report blocked for three months? Why did Burke's friend run to Montana? Why did his family fight a grand jury subpoena in Texas courts rather than talk about the child who had stayed in their home?Charges include first-degree murder with special circumstances. In the Mackenzie Shirilla case, the Ohio Supreme Court denied jurisdiction over an "untimely" appeal filed during a leap year, prompting a new motion for reconsideration based on a potential split of legal authority. Additionally, the federal court has significantly limited a previously "horrific" temporary restraining order against Reckless Ben, while simultaneously requesting clarification on the LLC's members to confirm diversity jurisdiction. Finally, an extension was granted in the TikTok psychic $10 million defamation appeal, with her opening brief now due at the end of July. D4vd murder case: how did two sheriff's departments have David Burke's name, number, and address in a missing child investigation and still fail to protect Celeste Rivas Hernandez? She was thirteen. She was reported missing three times. Deputies called Burke, went to his home, and confronted him with her age. What they did with that information — and what they didn't do — is the center of this episode.Prosecutors allege Burke paid a thousand dollars to one of Celeste's junior high classmates to give her a replacement phone after her parents cut off contact. Over the following year, she allegedly traveled with him to Las Vegas, London, and Texas. She met his family. She had matching tattoos with him. She had his name permanently inked on her ring finger. This is the first of three parts in a Hidden Killers investigation into the D4vd case — and the adults who allegedly let every red flag pass.LINKS:Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? They spoke to him face to face. What happened after that visit — and the chain of failures that followed — is the foundation of this three-part investigation.Prosecutors say Celeste was reported missing from Lake Elsinore three separate times. They say Burke allegedly paid a classmate to deliver a phone to her after her parents confiscated hers. They say she traveled with him to Las Vegas, London, and Texas and met his family. She had his name permanently tattooed on her ring finger. She was in seventh grade when the relationship allegedly started.Every adult in Celeste's orbit had at least part of the picture. The defense statement issued after David Anthony Burke's arrest is notable for its precision — and for what it does not say. His attorneys stated that "the actual evidence in this case will show that David Burke did not murder Celeste Rivas Hernandez and he was not the cause of her death." That formulation makes two specific denials while leaving substantial territory unaddressed: it does not deny that the fourteen-year-old girl's remains were found in a vehicle registered to Burke, nor does it deny a connection between them. This look back examines the legal significance of that framing.Retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer analyzes both the defense posture and the broader investigative picture. Charges have been filed — first-degree murder with special circumstances alleging financial gain, lying in wait, and the killing of a witness, along with additional counts related to the victim's age and the condition of her remains. Burke has pleaded not guilty and remains held without bail. A preliminary hearing is pending. The segment also addresses the pattern of witness behavior documented in the investigation: multiple individuals in Burke's circle reportedly resisted testifying before the grand jury, with one arrested for failure to appear and another reportedly compelled to attend. Coffindaffer assesses what this pattern typically indicates in a case of this magnitude, and how prosecutors and investigators work with reluctant witnesses. The Rivas family, who immigrated from El Salvador, has waited for answers through sealed proceedings and court-ordered security holds. We revisit where the matter stood at the time of our reporting, distinguishing court-confirmed facts from investigative reporting and opinion.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video?
