Public Faith, Private Strength: Living as Children of God The Homily begins by reflecting on the daily act of making choices, . . . . . . beginning with a personal story about struggling to wake up early for school. This serves as a metaphor for the broader and more meaningful choices we face in life, such as choosing to be kind, forgiving, and generous. However, the most crucial decision is choosing God. God's Children Choosing God brings not only spiritual benefits, such as being gathered, cleansed, and made into God's children, but also emotional strength and confidence . . . much like the boost we feel when a parent is present and supportive. The Homily continues and draws parallels between this and recognizing God's constant presence. We hear briefly the biblical story of Jesus raising Lazarus, and true faith requires more than good works; it demands a public and unwavering profession that Jesus is the Son of God. This faith should be visible even in ordinary moments, like praying before meals in public. The season of Lent is highlighted as a special time to renew this choice for God, affirming that only in Him do we find true fulfillment and salvation. Listen to this Meditation Media. At the Last Supper Jesus opens his heart to the apostles and to us. St. John shares Jesus' own description of the Father's love for us: it is the same love that he has for his only Son, Jesus. If and when we truly believe this, it changes everything and serves as the foundation of our Christian life. https://comeawaybyyourselves.com
Our dear Lord is at the doorstep of Holy Week, i.e., the commencement of His Passion and death on the Cross. His sentiments and thoughts center on His mission to accomplish, and that is to save mankind, all men and women, from the beginning of time to the end of time. So many souls to save! So many also who would reject His plea to conversion! So much pain, sorrow, sadness, etc. Anyhow, He proceeds. He knows and wills that everyone become part of His Family, the family of the Blessed Trinity. He wants to gather everyone together as His children. But first He needs to face His Passion. We accompany Him, with our own Calvary of sorts, because only by passing through death can we resurrect with our Savior!

Maria was born into one of history's most harmful cults, the Children of God. Maria joins us in the first of two chats to detail what the group was like from the perspective of a child. Maria brings her knowledge and expertise as a psychologist to the conversation, sharing both the harms that children experienced in the group, and also the results of a 2024 study which she authored which details the serious consequences in adulthood of growing up in a cult.

Pastor Kevin Love preaches on the book of 1 John, Children of God.
This Sunday, we continue our powerful series, The Least of These, with a message straight from the heart of Jesus! In Mark 10:13-16, the disciples tried to push the children away, but Jesus did the opposite—He welcomed them with open arms. In a world that often overlooks the weak, the small, and the powerless, Jesus declares, “The kingdom of God belongs to such as these!” What does that mean for us? It means that no one is too small, too insignificant, or too unworthy for God's love. Whether you feel unseen, unvalued, or forgotten, come hear how Jesus calls you His own. Passage: Mark 10:13-16

Join Dr. Greg Beutel as we explore the concept of being God's children. In "Out of Context: We Are All God's Children," we challenge the common belief that everyone is automatically a child of God, examining biblical insights on faith, adoption, and what it truly means to reflect God as His children.
How is life different for us under Christ vs. under the law? When you believe, God looks on us…As if we were Jesus, As if we had never sinned, As if we had perfect obedience. Galatians 3:23-4:7
Everything God has done in history, He has done as Christians' covenant God
In 1 John 3.1-10, John pulls back the curtain to show the spiritual "behind the scenes" of our lives in a way that clarifies, challenges, and calls us to faith in Jesus and mission with him.

Through Jesus, we are adopted as God's children, heirs to His love and joy. This truth fills us with unshakable confidence—we are never alone. Knowing God's love transforms us, drawing us closer to Him in prayer and inspiring us to love others.
1 John 3:1-3 = John challenges us to live as Children of God. We are His children now, and our righteous and loving Father loves us and desires only the best for His Children. Let us live in the hope and confidence of a Father who loves and cares for us.
This cult has a very long history and as many names. It is most well known for being a sex cult during the '70s and '80s, as well as a "family" many celebrities were born into.
John 1:12-13 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. These verses were written in contrast to the previous statement about Jesus coming to His own, meaning the nation of Israel, and their not receiving Him. As we know, they not only didn't receive Him, they killed Him. They declared Him an imposter and a demonized fraud, which John revealed later in his gospel. In contrast to the children of Israel are the children of God, described in verses 12-13. First, they received Him by faith as they believed in His name. In the minds of John's readers, that meant they trusted in the works of Jesus. A child derives his identity and his name from his father. John recorded Jesus saying that a son does the works of his father (John 8:38). When Jesus asked Peter about His identity, Peter declared Jesus to be the son of God (Matt. 16:16), understanding Jesus' works to be the works of His Father. Those who believed Jesus to be the Son of God, doing the works of the Father, received Jesus for who He said He was. Second, God gave those who received Him through faith the right to become His children. That right of sonship wasn't something they earned. It was a right given when God regenerated them. So the right was received by virtue of new birth. Third, those who received Him and believed in His name did so because they were born of God. John made it clear that this birth wasn't by natural means. He explicitly said it was not a right they obtained because of their physical heritage. They weren't born into it through their earthly parents. They also didn't receive the right to be a child of God because of a choice they made of their own wills, meaning the faith they had was not produced naturally apart from God's power. Furthermore, the right to be children of God was not conferred upon them by an agency of man. Someone didn't simply declare that these people who received Jesus were God's children. No, as many as were born of God, the spirit of life in the son of God was given to them, and they believed in His name and received Him. Not by choice, but by the transforming, regenerating power of the Spirit of God according to God's choice. The apostle Paul put it this way in Romans 8.2. “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death.” John had said that in Jesus was life (vs. 4), so when God gives birth to His children, He gives them His life, His Spirit, the Spirit of the Son, the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit creates new life in someone, they believe in Jesus' name and receive Him. Thus, they are children of God. If this experience is yours, then you know that in receiving Jesus, you have received His life. The assurance that God gave you so you know you are rightfully God's child is faith in Jesus as the Son of God, sent to do the Father's will and works on your behalf. You were born again, not to live for God. You were born again so Jesus might live for you! The Son of God was born again in you. He first came into the world in Israel. Now He has been born anew in you, the new Israel of God. The earthly Israel did not receive Him, but as many as are in the new Israel, have received Jesus as the Light and Life of the world. As we live to love with Jesus, we testify to our birthright and love in His name for the glory of God. I invite you to become a partner in our ministry. Pastor Michael Field February 23, 2025 1 John 2:28-3:10
In this week's sermon, Pastor Jacob Michalski focuses on The Beatitudes and what it means to "live the good life." He explains that the word "blessed" in the Beatitudes equates to "happy" or having "the good life," and then contrasts Jesus's unexpected view of who has the good life with common perspectives. While people typically think of the good life in terms of comfort, security, and material success, Jesus declares that the good life belongs to those who are poor in spirit, mourning, meek, hungering for righteousness, merciful, pure in heart, peacemaking, and even persecuted. Pastor Jacob emphasizes that this seemingly paradoxical teaching reflects Jesus's eternal perspective rather than a temporal one, and points out that the Beatitudes aren't a checklist but rather an assessment tool to see if one's heart aligns with God's perspective on the world. He concludes by encouraging his congregation to reflect on these teachings and compare their own definition of the good life with Jesus's vision.
Fr. Mike reminds us that, unlike Adam and Eve who gave into "the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life," we are called to surrender our hearts and minds to the Lord and reject the things of this world. Today's readings are 1 John 1-3; 2 Thessalonians 1-3; Proverbs 30:20-23. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear.
