Reflection to Reflection In this week's message, we looked at what it means to be a reflection of the true Light—Jesus. From John 8, Jesus confronts the Pharisees who believed they were enlightened but were actually casting shadows with their legalism and self-righteousness. Jesus boldly declares, “I am the light of the world,” and challenges them—and us—to consider what kind of light we're reflecting. We're reminded that we're not the source of truth, but reflectors of it. Just like the moon reflects the sun, we're called to reflect Jesus. And when we do, we bring light into dark places. But when we reflect fear, pride, or worry, we create blind spots for others. Jesus offers freedom, not burden. The more we reflect Him, the more that freedom grows. ____ Partner with New Tribe: Give | https://newtribe.church/give/ ____ Connect with New Tribe: Website | https://newtribe.church/comeexperience/ Instagram | / newtribechurch Facebook | / newtribechurch YouTube | / newtribechurch

God has made our Righteousness as our Light - Jesus is our Light of Righteousness
God has made our Righteousness as our Light - Jesus is our Light of Righteousness
Summary of the Passage (Matthew 5:13-20): In this passage, Jesus uses the metaphors of salt and light to describe the influence and role of His followers in the world. He emphasizes that they are to preserve goodness and bring light to darkness, making a visible impact through their actions. Jesus also speaks about His relationship with the Law, explaining that He came not to abolish it but to fulfill it. He calls His followers to a higher standard of righteousness, surpassing that of the religious leaders of His time. Discussion Questions: 1. Verse 13: Salt of the Earth: - What does it look like to "salt" in our daily lives? What are some practical ways to preserve goodness and add favor to our communities, workplaces, homes, etc.? 2. Verses 14-16: Light of the World: - What does it mean to let your light shine before others? Can you share an example of a time when your actions pointed others to God? 3. Verses 17-18: Fulfillment of the Law: - How did Jesus fulfill the Law and the Prophets? What does this fulfillment mean for us as His followers today? 4. Verses 19-20: Righteousness Surpassing the Pharisees: - What does it look like to have a righteousness that surpasses that of the Pharisees and teachers of the law? How can we strive to live out this higher standard in our own lives?

Week 2 of our 'Jesus Is' is all about Jesus' "I am the light of the world" statement. Maybe today you haven't experienced the life that Jesus can give but you are worn out from trying to make your way through life in the dark. In this message, Pastor Kevin shows us that Jesus is the light of the world.
Preacher: Kathy Maskell Scripture: John 4:3-6, 23-26, 34-38 John 4:3-6 3 So Jesus left Judea and went back once more to Galilee. 4 Now he had to go through Samaria. 5 So he came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph. 6 Jacob's well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about noon. John 4:23-26 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” 25 The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.” 26 Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he.” John 4:34-38 34 “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work. 35 Don't you have a saying, ‘It's still four months until harvest'? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. 36 Even now the one who reaps draws a wage and harvests a crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together. 37 Thus the saying ‘One sows and another reaps' is true. 38 I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor.”
One of the amazing things about life is the fact that we know so little about some things which are very common, and we take those things for granted--not sensing how very important they are to our survival.

12.24.2023 | The Light Jesus Came To Bring | Pastor Jeff Wickwire
Jesus, who existed before all of time, came into a world immersed in sin and opposition to God. Though the world does not understand or appreciate or absorb the Light Jesus brings, it cannot overpower it!Out of the super-abundance of God's grace and truth, we have received grace upon grace, favor upon favor, gift heaped upon gift in the person and work of Jesus Christ!Prepare for this week's message by reading through and meditating on John 1:1-18.
To what did Mother like to compare herself in relation to Christ? An oil lamp. He is the light of the world. She never wanted to think of herself as an independent light. Her light was from Him. But she did think that she would be able by her fidelity to keep oil in the lamp so that Christ could shine through her.
April 2, 2023 Sermon by Thomas Hamilton. Salt and Light: Jesus came to seek and save the lost Matthew 9:1-17
In John 3 a Pharisee named Nicodemus comes to Jesus under the cover of darkness. He's nervous, curious, and unsure of just who Jesus is (though he confesses that he must be from God). This exchange, held so quietly and privately, became a powerful revelation of what it means to follow Christ and to fully embrace the kingdom of God.
Lisa 6:3 - "Got Jesus - Got Life!" John 1:1-4. In Him we have Life and Light. The trials in your life will never understand the light you carry, because darkness can never understand the Light Jesus. Carry Jesus He is the only Light of the world.
From John Chapter 8 verses 12-24 we see the famous passage of Jesus saying that He is the light of the world. We can also see the leaders challenging this and Jesús answering them well. We will also take a look at some other passages that show us that we too are to be lights, pointing to THE LIGHT Jesus.
So, after listening to the previous episode, how are your toes? If they weren't stepped on, that's a good sign. It means you're on the right track. YES! God has something for everybody to do in this life. Read the Bible and we find that it's Love God and Love People. We can add Live Right, Reveal the Light (Jesus). It's that simple. BUT sometimes our desire for greater significance takes us to places and pursuits God has no desire for us to grasp for. If propelled by narcissism, we can easily mistake our yearning for "personal greatness" as a "call of God." Dangerous territory, my friend. The world lay in darkness until the light of God was sent. That light entered on that Christmas day in a baby, who was Jesus Christ. He came bringing the light men needed. He is the light that enlightens every person.Do you have this light? This is the true meaning of Christmas. Listen carefully so you do not miss out.

Like John, we are witnesses to the Light. God sent John. Furthermore, we are sent by Jesus with the courage to face any situation confidently since we have God's power to enable us. Listen as Leroy Armstrong teaches about the mission of John the Baptist.
Today's Scripture: John 18:15-27 “My most common prayer request these days is that God would give me consistent, uninterrupted sleep, because in the middle of almost every night, I lay awake for several hours wrestling. I wrestle with preoccupation, with self-doubt, with the dissatisfaction of unmet expectations and unrealized goals and dreams, with pressure that I put on myself or that I fear others will put on me, with the burdens of the day behind me and the day ahead of me, and with the sense that my work is never going to be satisfactory or complete. In other words, I wrestle over the unique calling of leadership—which is both an unspeakable privilege and a burden that must be carried, often alone...” Scott Sauls Main Idea: Jesus uses our sin and betrayal to draw us deeper into His love. Jesus doesn't abandon us in our betrayals, He actually uses them for His glory and our good. I. Sin exposes in us the object of our real and authentic trust. (Jeremiah 17:9-10) (John 13:36-38) (Romans 1:16-17) (Hebrews 11:1, 17-19) II. Sin is always an issue of identity. (Galatians 2:11-14) (Galatians 5:14-15) III. Jesus is the way to and the essence of acceptance and love! (John 6:38) (John 3:35) (John 5:20) (John 10:17) (John 15:9) (John 17:24)

We feel this tension of the 'already but not yet' reality that we live in as Christians. We are in a season of waiting. Much like the Israelites in the Old Testament who were longing for the Savior to come, we are also longing for our Savior- who we know to be Jesus- to return again. We are waiting. And we are called to wait well and diligently. Therefore, this season of Advent should amplify our hearts to acknowledge that we are awaiting our Savior. To Acknowledge and rejoice that He has already come- and that He will come again.
