Today's class is about how God Himself moves things, moves people, moves history, moves events to accomplish everything He desires, to fulfill His plan of winning the world into the knowledge of Living God and today we will see an amazing part of that plan coming to fruition.   Today's story is truly a story of how God ACTS - how He acts in the heart of Saul, a persecutor of followers of Jesus, working to imprison believers.   As Saul was walking on the way to Damascus suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him and he fell to the ground as he heard a voice saying, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?" His response, "Who are you, Lord?"   This is an important question! The response he hears is, "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting." Note "I am", this is significant because these are the very words God calls Himself - the "I Am."  These words show that  Then and Now: Jesus is alive! And thus there is hope, a future and life transforming power! Theophany - a visible manifestation of a deity  burning bush at Sinai Israel at Mount Sinai - voice of God from heaven and the mount on fire transfiguration of Jesus And now Saul encounters God Jesus is who He said He is! Jesus gives sight to the blind. Saul is left blind following the encounter with The Light (Jesus). The others with him, led him to the city and for three days he was blind and did not eat or drink anything. However, while he was physically blind his heart was opened and could "see" who Jesus is. When we don' know Jesus - we are blind, but He gives sight to the blind when we come to know Him.     As we continue reading: A disciple name Ananias. through a vision from the Lord, was told to go to see Saul because God tells him that He has given Saul a vision of a man named Ananias who will restore his sight. That Saul will be expecting him. However, Ananias knows who Saul is and is hesitant to go. But the Lord says, "Go! This man (Saul) is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel. I will show him how much he must suffer for my name."   Knowing Jesus changes everything!  Ananias goes to Saul and says, "Brother Saul, the Lord - Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here - has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit!" This is a personal Pentecost for Saul.  Then scales fell from Saul's eyes and he is able to see and was baptized.  Saul's heart was changed when he met Jesus. Our lives, too, are changed by Jesus. Knowing Jesus changes our hearts, our lives and our eternal destiny. Knowing Jesus brings new purpose to life! Now this man that was sent to Damascus to arrest Jesus followers, is now in the synagogues preaching that Jesus is the Son of God! People were astonished to see the change in Saul. Saul continued preaching growing more and more powerful, baffling the Jews by proving that Jesus is the Messiah. Saul went from being a persecutor of Jesus Followers to sharing the Good News of Jesus and gaining more Jesus Followers for God's Kingdom. Saul was sold out to Christ and nothing but sharing Jesus' story was important to him.   This week's READING ASSIGNMENT:   Acts chapter 9-10 (read and reflect on these two chapters together).     Now What? Because the Light of the World (Jesus) dwells in us by His Spirit, we are the light of the world, and so must shine our Light. How? 1. We must shine our Light (Jesus) by doing good works. 2. We must shine our Light (Jesus) by deliberately having others see our good works. 3. We must shine our Light (Jesus) by directing all glory to our Father in heaven, not to ourselves. Dinner-time Discussion Towards Being Doers of the Word: 1. What good works are we doing?! Name them. Who, exactly, can see the light of Jesus because of our practical expressions of Christ to them? Name them. Matthew 11:2, John 5:33,35. 2. How can we deliberately have others see our good works? Also, how could we trumpet the good tasks of others in a way that unbelievers will see it? Philippians 2:14-15, 1 Peter 2:12 and 4:10-11. 3. What happens when we take credit for an act of service 'for the Lord'? Isaiah 9:2, and 49:6 and John 8:12 and Matthew 23:5.

It's great to be back with you after the Christmas break. In the last study we completed the Gospel of John. Today, we continue with the writings of the Apostle John with the book of 1 John. In his Gospel, John proclaimed that Jesus, the “light of the world” had come to illuminate truth and to lead men and women to God. Here in 1 John, John urges all to forsake darkness and live in the light. Do you yearn for direction in life? Follow the light. Do you doubt and wonder what's real? Turn on His light. Reflection to Reflection In this week's message, we looked at what it means to be a reflection of the true Light—Jesus. From John 8, Jesus confronts the Pharisees who believed they were enlightened but were actually casting shadows with their legalism and self-righteousness. Jesus boldly declares, “I am the light of the world,” and challenges them—and us—to consider what kind of light we're reflecting. We're reminded that we're not the source of truth, but reflectors of it. Just like the moon reflects the sun, we're called to reflect Jesus. And when we do, we bring light into dark places. But when we reflect fear, pride, or worry, we create blind spots for others. Jesus offers freedom, not burden. Week 2 of our 'Jesus Is' is all about Jesus' "I am the light of the world" statement. Maybe today you haven't experienced the life that Jesus can give but you are worn out from trying to make your way through life in the dark. One of the amazing things about life is the fact that we know so little about some things which are very common, and we take those things for granted--not sensing how very important they are to our survival.

Jesus, who existed before all of time, came into a world immersed in sin and opposition to God. Though the world does not understand or appreciate or absorb the Light Jesus brings, it cannot overpower it!Out of the super-abundance of God's grace and truth, we have received grace upon grace, favor upon favor, gift heaped upon gift in the person and work of Jesus Christ!Prepare for this week's message by reading through and meditating on John 1:1-18.

In John 3 a Pharisee named Nicodemus comes to Jesus under the cover of darkness. He's nervous, curious, and unsure of just who Jesus is (though he confesses that he must be from God). This exchange, held so quietly and privately, became a powerful revelation of what it means to follow Christ and to fully embrace the kingdom of God.

From John Chapter 8 verses 12-24 we see the famous passage of Jesus saying that He is the light of the world. We can also see the leaders challenging this and Jesús answering them well. We will also take a look at some other passages that show us that we too are to be lights, pointing to THE LIGHT Jesus.

The world lay in darkness until the light of God was sent. That light entered on that Christmas day in a baby, who was Jesus Christ. He came bringing the light men needed. He is the light that enlightens every person.Do you have this light? This is the true meaning of Christmas. Listen carefully so you do not miss out.

Today's Scripture: John 18:15-27 “My most common prayer request these days is that God would give me consistent, uninterrupted sleep, because in the middle of almost every night, I lay awake for several hours wrestling. I wrestle with preoccupation, with self-doubt, with the dissatisfaction of unmet expectations and unrealized goals and dreams, with pressure that I put on myself or that I fear others will put on me, with the burdens of the day behind me and the day ahead of me, and with the sense that my work is never going to be satisfactory or complete. In other words, I wrestle over the unique calling of leadership—which is both an unspeakable privilege and a burden that must be carried, often alone...” Scott Sauls Main Idea: Jesus uses our sin and betrayal to draw us deeper into His love. Jesus doesn't abandon us in our betrayals, He actually uses them for His glory and our good. I. Sin exposes in us the object of our real and authentic trust.
