Jodi and Chris of Love and the Outcome have been through the hardest season of their lives. First, their record label was sold. Then COVID shut the word down and like other musicians, Jodi and her husband Chris had no way to do shows and provide income for their family. Then their house flooded and was basically destroyed. They were displaced for over a year and a half. Then their trailer was stolen containing all their music gear and some things they managed to save from the flood. All gone. It was literally, one crisis after another, and no way they could fix it themselves. But God. Join me for this amazing story and conversation with the irrepressible Jodi King and hear how God showed up in the everyday miracles of people being good humans. Jodi says it's seasons like this, that you really learn WHO God is. There is so much wisdom to glean in this conversation you may want to take notes and have the Kleenex nearby.
Jodi King from Love and The Outcome sits down with Julianne to discuss losing followers over choosing love, finding God's presence in the midst of a flood displacing her neighborhood, and how to find your tribe of women. James Kurtis welcomes back guest co-host Ayiesha Woods - GRAMMY® nominated singer, songwriter and musician. They look at the unique challenges the pandemic created for artists with small children, and connect with Jodi King from Love & The Outcome to talk about balancing home life while making ends meet when regular touring hasn't always been an option. Jodi and her husband Chris Rademaker recently released their third studio LP, ‘Only Ever Always'. The full-length project was released on the heels of the one-year anniversary of the flood that destroyed the couple's Nashville home, which occurred only a week after they recorded their current radio single, "I'm Not Lucky, I'm Blessed." The recent flooding of their home inspired the 13-track collection as the couple realized rain precedes the rainbow. Episode 360 In today's Throwback Thursday episode, we're bringing you back to episode 193. It's an episode with Emily's friend, Jodi King. In this episode, Emily and Jodi talk about intuition, creativity, and how everyone can access it. Art was an “accidental” career for Jodie, born from following her intuition and painting what she felt like painting. She literally got discovered in her own home by people seeing her art on the walls of her house (how does that even happen???). At first, she felt like she didn't belong in the art world though. Art galleries felt high-end, fancy, or off-limits. Longing to be as free as possible – like “fling-paint-on-the-wall-kind-of-free” – Jodie found a passion for abstract art. What initially looked like a kindergartener's attempt at painting, evolved to something much more. Through meditation, she was able to ground herself and offer a path for her creativity to come through in a way that you can feel. Whatever energy she has, becomes part of the art. And not just for Jodie. She wants others to know about this too. Following your intuition, throwing paint at the wall if you want, or any way you choose to express your creativity, it all carries a vibration. Through her desire to learn more about art, she discovered we're all creative, we're all artists and now she teaches others to paint from the same place of honesty that she does. She developed “Honest Art Workshops” and talks about some of the transformations happening with her students in this episode. Don't forget to tag me on Instagram if you are inspired to create something after listening – we'd love to see it! Highlights you wouldn't want to miss: Intuition is not a roar, it's a whisper. It's a curiosity. The benefit of going straight from meditation to the canvas. Art has a vibration. We can heal ourselves through art. It's a remembering of our magnificence. What you put out comes back to you. When we ask a question and just listen, we're always going to be guided. The six stages of the creative process. How Jodie's creative process applies to entrepreneurs. With creations, you're putting on the outside how you feel on the inside (good or bad!). 2021 was a whirlwind of a year for Love & The Outcome. In the spring of 2021, Nashville was hit with a rainstorm causing flooding across many communities in the city. Jodi and Chris's home was just one of the many destroyed by high waters. They're now in the process of fixing up their home and at the same time, preparing to release a new album. Today on Connections, Jodi King shares what that experience was like. She'll also talk about their latest single, I'm not lucky, I'm blessed and the inspiration behind their new album. We had an incredible spring gathering this past Thursday where we had Jodi King with Love & the Outcome there to speak and worship with us. Jodi spoke about her life as a Christian artist, mom, wife, and how God sometimes calls us to do things that we don't think we're capable of doing. She mentioned that "sometimes the long road isn't the wrong road" which is absolute truth along with so many other things she touched on during this night. Jodi is 100% authentic and can make you laugh out loud while also sharing what God has taught her up to this point of her life and He is still teaching her. If you missed being there in person with us we encourage you to listen to the podcast while on the go or you can go back and watch the full event on our website or our Facebook page. Sometimes God wants us to know that a "sweatpants" kinda life is okay. But we continue to force ourselves into the "skinny jeans." Matthew 11:28 -- "Come to me all you who are weary and heavy burdened (skinny jeans) and I will give you rest (sweatpants). You'll just have to take a listen to understand and we promise you'll want to listen to our chat with Jodi (she's 100% authentic)! Hailing from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Jodi King is one half of the husband and wife duo Love & The Outcome. After throwing caution to the wind and selling their condo along with everything in it, touring Canada selling CD's out of the trunk of their Jetta, the couple landed a record deal with Word Entertainment / Warner Music Group in 2012. Their self-titled debut album, Love & The Outcome, released the following year to critical acclaim and the duo has since become one of the most compelling emergent voices in the Contemporary Christian music space. Their highly-anticipated sophomore album, These Are The Days, released the same week their first baby boy Milo was born. The ‘band' was complete eighteen months later when Ziggy entered the world! Instead of packing it in and getting ‘real jobs', Jodi and Chris bought a bigger vehicle and took the family on the road. In Jodi's words: “When you're a wife, mom, artist and living your life in public, perfection is impossible… walking with purpose is not. This shift in perspective from ‘I've got this' to ‘God, I know that you've got this' is what sets this work apart”. To date, Love & The Outcome have amassed a loyal, engaged audience, earning over one hundred million streams globally, tens of millions of impressions, achieved multiple Top #5 songs on the Billboard chart and shared stages with their peers including for King & Country, TobyMac, Lecrae and Switchfoot. With 20 GMA Canada Covenant Awards and nominations, Juno Award and KLOVE Fan Award nominations to their name, Jodi and Chris continue to share their music worldwide. Contemporary Christian musicians Chris Rademaker and Jodi King followed God’s call to pursue a musical adventure as the husband-wife duo Love & The Outcome. They share their experiences of selling their home, walking through grief, newlywed life on the road as musicians and their transition into parenting. Jodi especially talks through how she leans on the Holy Spirit in her parenting, managing expectations and other people’s reactions. I’ve had to learn how to just know the Holy Spirit. So in the moments when we’re in public and I’m parenting, I focus on Him. It’s so easy to turn and see everyone else’s reaction to what I just did was or I can just try and do my best to really listen to the Holy Spirit in the moment so that I can feel confident in my decisions. I love how Chris and Jodi open up about playing shows and bringing their two young sons Milo and Ziggy along for the ride. There’s so much encouragement for moms of littles in this episode, including letting our standards slip a little so we can still experience community even if it’s messy and involves take-out food instead of handcrafted meals. Maybe it’s just a season. But maybe it’s forever. I don’t really know what the Lord has. But letting go of some of my ideals has been so good. I have to acknowledge that I have a 2.5-year-old and a 1-year-old. Life looks like this right now, and it is the dream if I choose to be present to it and enjoy it. What we chat about: When Jodi and Chris met and started a touring band Their Enneagram types and how they work together as a couple How the Lord directed their path through grief and loss Parenting and challenges that come when touring with kids Dwelling in the Holy Spirit to make decisions Transitions in parenting and learning to lean into the Holy Spirit vs worrying what others think The concessions you make to connect with community when you are in a busy season Freeing yourself up from pre-conceived plans of what life “should” look like A new way to look at living the dream and choosing to be present in what your life is like now Links Mentioned: The God I Know music video The King of My Heart music video He is With Us music video L&TO albums: These Are the Days** & Love & The Outcome** **Amazon affiliate link to help support the production of this podcast.
