Then COVID shut the word down and like other musicians, Jodi and her husband Chris had no way to do shows and provide income for their family. Then their house flooded and was basically destroyed. They were displaced for over a year and a half. Then their trailer was stolen containing all their music gear and some things they managed to save from the flood. All gone. It was literally, one crisis after another, and no way they could fix it themselves. But God. Join me for this amazing story and conversation with the irrepressible Jodi King and hear how God showed up in the everyday miracles of people being good humans. Jodi says it's seasons like this, that you really learn WHO God is. There is so much wisdom to glean in this conversation you may want to take notes and have the Kleenex nearby.

Singer Tauren Wells doesn't just have one of the most amazing voices in music today. He also has a deep passion and love for the Word of God. When you put these obvious giftings together, you have a treasure. That treasure was almost buried because of some discouraging words that a professor spoke to him in Bible college. He even wondered if he had anything worthwhile to say and stopped speaking and preaching for a few years. It wasn't until a counselor spoke new words to override the negative ones, that Tauren faced his fears and decided he had to share what God was teaching him. Join me for an unforgettable conversation with the incredibly gifted musician and yes, preacher, Tauren Wells. His humility is even more compelling than his voice.

No one knew she could sing like that. After the sudden tragic loss of her brother, Anne Wilson knew she needed to worship and spend time in the presence of God. She went to the piano in her family's home and sang her heart out to Jesus. It was this private moment that was overheard by her stunned mom who said, “Anne... I had no idea you could sing like that”. No one knew. Even Anne herself didn't realize the tremendous gift God has given her in music because she had other plans for her life. But moments like these can be God's way of leading us down the path He had for us all along. Join me for an unforgettable conversation with an unforgettable person, singer-songwriter, and new author, Anne Wilson. Her story is amazing but not as amazing as the God she's singing for.
Growing up, my experience going to church was in a contemporary building, with modern music and culture. But occasionally...I would visit a different kind of church with a friend and there, I was exposed to ancient rituals, rhythms, and sacraments that drew me in and touched my heart. Join me for a warm, rich conversation with Aaron Damiani. Aaron is the lead pastor of Immanuel Anglican Church in Chicago, and the author of Earth Filled With Heaven: Finding Life in Liturgy, Sacraments, and other Ancient Practices of the Church. Aaron invites us to discover how these historical practices of the early church can nourish our spiritual lives and be a beautiful way to connect with God and community. If your spirit is longing for new ways to go deeper in your relationship with Jesus, the answer just may be... rediscovering the old ways.
“Music is the only thing that doesn't need permission from your brain to get into your spirit. -Jonathan Traylor singer-songwriter Jonathan Traylor lights it up on my podcast this week in one of the most authentic conversations I've ever had. He shares his story of growing up with an abusive step-dad, who brought violence into the home but on Sundays, went to church. Young Jonathan was confused by the inconsistencies but his Mama never stopped praying. Jonathan found hope in that same God who showed up for his mom. He fell in love with Jesus for himself and even asked God for the gift of music, so he could serve in the church. Buckle up… because this conversation between a white woman in her 50s and a young African-American man is real and honest about Jesus, grace, and race.
“The greatest piece of who we are is our vulnerability…our open-heartedness is our genius…”LEANN RIMES is an American treasure and one of my all-time favorite recording artists.I am so excited to welcome her to my show this week for an incredibly deep conversation about life, emotions, mental health, God and much much more. This conversation will MOVE you and when I say it's DEEP, I mean it . We are both very open and vulnerable in this conversation and it won't soon be forgotten.Trust me, we are both incredibly open in ways maybe neither one of us have been beforeLeAnn is REMARKABLE in her CREATIVITY, TALENT, and PERSEVERANCE.Think about this as you listen. That's not to say it has always been easy for LeAnn, because it hasn't.She makes no secret of her love of GOD and the role how PRESENCE has played in her life. You're going to hear what that presence means and the important role this plays in her singing. That FAITH has also been instrumental in guiding her career and her personal life.LeAnn is going to tell you how she handles ANXIETY, being PLUGGED IN all the time, and finding ways to take good care of herself through it all. We're also going to dig into why it's dangerous to TIE YOUR IDENTITY TO EXTERNAL ACHIEVEMENTS and how LeAnn's thinking about that has evolved over time.Like any highly creative person, she's also prone to CREATIVE HIGHS and the crashes that often come after. Those ups and downs are real, not only for her but for everyone. You'll want to hear how she manages those types of emotions so you can use that wisdom in your own life. We're going to close with two things LeAnn knows a lot about…Working on getting LOVE from other people…And advice for making your DREAMS come true.I think she's well “VERSED” to talk about these things, and after you hear her, you'll think so too.
How did the celebrity culture infiltrate the evangelical church and what should be done about it? Writer Katelyn Beaty has written a thought-provoking book, Celebrities for Jesus: How Personas, Platforms, and Profits are Hurting the Church. She traces the history of the celebrity pastor, mega-churches, publishing deals, and stages and screens; and exposes the dangers of fame without accountability and spiritual maturity. This is an important topic and Katelyn doesn't come to it as one with a vendetta, but as one who loves the church, loves Jesus, and is concerned about where we're headed. We should be too.

When pain is crushing you, darkness feels like it is surrounding you, and you are overwhelmed by the things that need to be done that you simply don't have the energy to accomplish… what should you do? Maybe you feel like, well God uses everything for good so I should be joyful knowing that truth. Do you feel like something is wrong with you because you can't feel joyful? When your heart is breaking - don't you just want to hide until you don't feel this way anymore?Enter lament. Something I had never experienced in my life until I discovered my wife's affair and our subsequent divorce. It was standing in an empty home, the home that we were planning to raise our kids in, that I let out an authentic, God-honoring, non-stoic, expression of my grief. There are many examples and Bible passages on lament, there's an entire book dedicated to it! Today, we are going to read and reflect on the power of lament in the book of Ruth. //Everything you need is hereIncluded in that link is a list of resources and references I use in this podcast and can help you grow deeper in your faith as well. If you're in the middle of a trying time in your life all you want is some peace. My peace is this imagined place of sitting back in a comfortable chair with my feet up. The tension in my core muscles and neck is released as I trust the chair to support me. I picture that I'm on this beautiful wrap-around porch as the warm breeze of spring blows through the open windows and the aroma of new blooms fills the air. I'm at rest.I've recently realized that what I've been describing is earthly peace. The dictionary defines peace as a state of tranquility or quiet - but peace in the Bible is different. It's more than just the absence of conflict or a state of rest and I will be sharing with you today what I've been learning about biblical peace. //If you would like to dive deeper into this, or other verses in the Bible, if you have a verse you would like to submit to have included in a future episode if have questions about the Bible that you would like answered in a bonus episode, or simply want to connect with me... text VERSED to 58228 or click hereAlso included in that link is a list of resources and references I use in this podcast and can help you grow deeper in your faith as well. We all want to have better relationships, right? The Bible is deeply relevant when it comes to how we treat other people and it gets all up in our business. And I love it! On this episode of the podcast, I'm sharing some lessons I've learned about loving our friends and yes, I'm still learning. I never want to just let my close relationships be on auto-pilot, but I want to nurture them to be healthy and vibrant. The wisdom in Colossians 3:12-14, tells us there are things we need to take off and things we need to put on. We are to wear love! What does that look like practically?
