Nosodes are an inseparable and indispensable part of our homeopathic practice since their earliest introduction to homeopathy by Constantine Hering in the year 1827. There are various myths and misconceptions related to the usage of Nosodes in homeopathy such as their source material, potency being used, repetition, suitableness to certain ages, etc. Their usage might be limited in the homeopathic clinical practice due to preconceived notions and perceptions. A structured survey (13 multiple-choice questions and 2 open-ended questions) was undertaken and published a decade back. The challenges and results of the survey are discussed in this episode of the podcast. Send a text to Melissa and she'll answer it on the next episode. Sleepless nights don't need to end in groggy mornings or a growing pile of quick fixes. We look at why sleep breaks in specific ways—racing thoughts, grief that tightens the throat, tired-but-wired burnout, 3 a.m. wakeups after overwork, and fussy teething meltdowns—and match those patterns to gentle homeopathic remedies that support deep, restorative rest. No sedation, no override—just targeted support that helps your body remember how to sleep. We start with a candid listener question on why a child may not respond to remedies, exploring dosing, potency, storage, and environmental blockers like strong mints or topical melaleuca. From there, we lay out a clear approach to homeopathy for sleep and share real case studies: Coffea Cruda for the mind that won't shut off; Ignatia for grief-driven insomnia; Kali Phos for frayed nerves and shallow sleep; Nux Vomica for 3 a.m. wakefulness tied to stimulants and heavy dinners; and Chamomilla for kids who are inconsolable, angry-crying, or teething. Each story shows how a well-matched remedy, plus simple habits like dim lights and no late screens, can shift sleep within days.Along the way, we talk practical sleep hygiene, the role of the vagus nerve, and how small choices—magnesium baths, quiet reading, steadier meal timing—signal safety to your nervous system. For those who find nighttime spiritually charged, we offer perspective and a blessing that reframes the bedroom as a sanctuary of peace. Homeopathy has become a bit like a game of telephone.A system of medicine grounded in clear principles — similars, totality, the single remedy, the minimum dose, and careful observation of response — has often been reduced to “take this remedy for that symptom,” or stretched to include any protocol, combination, detox, or nosode-based approach that uses potentized substances. In this episode, Denise Straiges and Alastair Gray ask what homeopathy actually is — and what it is not. They trace how the definition has shifted over time, from Hahnemann's original principles through later debates in education, pathology, germ theory, and modern prescribing trends. The question is not whether people can use homeopathic medicines in different ways. The question is whether all of those uses should be called homeopathy. For students, practitioners, and serious home prescribers, this conversation is an invitation to go back to first principles — and to ask whether the word homeopathy still means the medicine Hahnemann gave us.AHE is currently enrolling for fall. As artificial intelligence becomes more common in homeopathic practice, questions about the future of traditional repertory books are becoming harder to ignore. In this conversation, I'm joined by Hilery Dorrian, Marcus Fernandes, Marco Ruggeri, and Jay Carter, each bringing a distinct perspective on the relationship between technology, education, and clinical practice. Together, we discuss whether digital tools and AI strengthen or weaken critical thinking, how learning from books differs from learning from screens, and what may be gained—or lost—as homeopathy becomes increasingly digital. While opinions differ, everyone agrees on one essential point: technology can be a valuable tool, but sound judgment, deep learning, and human connection remain at the heart of good homeopathic practice. Episode Highlights: 05:14 - Why Repertory Books Still Matter 06:30 - benefits of digital repertorization software 12:03 - AI and its implications for homeopathy practice 14:39 - Impact of technology on critical thinking 19:03 - The Role of Human Judgment 21:06 - The Importance of Human Connection 25:54 - The Value of Books in Learning 29:02 - The Future of Homeopathy and AI 33:04 - Caution with Technology 40:46 - Role of AI and software as tools to enhance, not replace, the practice of homeopathy About my Guests: Marco Ruggeri is a classical homeopath, registered practitioner with the Society of Homeopaths, founder of the Similia digital homeopathy platform, and former software developer who combines his expertise in technology and homeopathy to provide personalized consultations and innovative tools for practitioners worldwide. Hilery Dorrian, an esteemed practitioner based in the United Kingdom, brings over 35 years of experience in homeopathy to her work. With a foundation in acupuncture, she offers a distinctive perspective on the integration of homeopathy and traditional Chinese medicine for holistic health. Hilery has been a pivotal figure in education, having taught at The Centre for Homeopathic Education for two decades and the College of Integrated Nutrition and Homeopathy. Renowned internationally, she is a frequent contributor to esteemed journals and magazines in the field. At the forefront of her profession, Hilery continues to impart her vast knowledge through lectures, workshops, and conferences, sharing over 12 hours of invaluable insights tailored for homeopaths, students, and healthcare practitioners alike. With a bustling practice, seeing upwards of 50 patients weekly, Hilery remains deeply committed to enhancing wellness through her profound expertise in homeopathy. Marcus Fernandez is a British homeopath, educator, author, and founder of the Centre for Homeopathic Education, one of the largest accredited homeopathy colleges in the UK, with more than three decades of experience teaching and practicing homeopathy worldwide, and is also the author of Homeopathy at Home and host of the Homeopathy at Home podcast. Jaylon Carter works at the intersection of artificial intelligence, education, and digital strategy, helping individuals and organizations apply emerging technologies in practical and responsible ways. With a background in product development, project management, digital marketing, and communications, he has led AI-focused workshops, webinars, and academic lectures, including guest presentations at Juntendo University in Tokyo. As an advocate for the thoughtful integration of AI into healthcare and learning, Jaylon has explored the application of artificial intelligence in homeopathy, including the development of tools and systems that enhance access to homeopathic knowledge and clinical resources. A published author, TEDx speaker, and technology educator, he combines strategic, creative, and technical expertise to help professionals leverage AI effectively while maintaining a balanced understanding of its opportunities and limitations. What if one of the most important skills for supporting your dog's wellbeing was learning how to observe more closely? In this fascinating and wide-ranging conversation, I sit down with professional classical homeopath Lucy Reynolds to explore the world of homeopathy—for our dogs, ourselves, and the animals in our care.Whether you're completely new to homeopathy, cautiously curious, or already have remedies in your cupboard, this episode offers a thoughtful introduction to the principles behind this often misunderstood modality. With a background as an Army officer and helicopter pilot, Lucy brings a uniquely analytical and methodical approach to homeopathy. Together, we explore what it means to "think like a homeopath," how homeopathy differs from herbal medicine, where it can sit alongside conventional veterinary and medical care, and why observation is one of the most powerful tools available to any guardian.Lucy also shares her experience working with farmers through Homeopathy at Wellie Level (HAWL), helping empower animal caretakers to use homeopathy confidently within their own care protocols. One of my favourite parts of this conversation is Lucy's practical deep dive into homeopathic remedies. She shares the remedies she recommends keeping on hand for both humans and dogs, how to think about when they might be useful, and practical guidance around dosing and administration. This episode beautifully complements my recent conversation with Dr Lise Hansen, offering another perspective on what it means to approach health through the lens of the whole individual rather than simply managing symptoms.Connect with Lucy ReynoldsWebsite: https://www.theclassicalhomeopath.com/aboutInstagram: https://instagram.com/theclassicalhomeopathArticle Lucy mentioned: https://www.theclassicalhomeopath.com/post/the-hushed-homeopathic-leptospirosis-outbreak-trial-that-you-didn-t-know-existedHomeopathic Research Institute: https://www.hri-research.org/Homeopathy 247 https://homeopathy247.com/Connect with me!Website: https://mysticdogmama.comInstagram: https://instagram.com/mysticdogmamaCome join my free Facebook group, First Light. Welcome back to the Homeopathy247 podcast! In Episode 204, Mary Greensmith sits down with the brilliant homeopath Madhavi Naik to demystify one of the most common—and often misunderstood—terms in holistic health: constitutional prescribing. If you have ever wondered why homeopaths ask such detailed questions about your personality, sleep habits, and food cravings, this episode will clear it all up! What is Constitutional Prescribing? When you visit a conventional doctor, the focus is usually on your specific physical complaint (like a headache or a cough). Homeopathy works beautifully in reverse! Madhavi explains that a constitutional prescription looks at the totality of your symptoms, prioritizing them in a specific hierarchy: Mental Generals: Your emotional state, intellect, and memory. This is the most important layer! Physical Generals: How your body interacts with the environment. Do you run hot or cold? What are your sleep patterns, energy levels, and food cravings? Physical Particulars: Your chief complaint (the main reason you sought help). By looking at the complete picture, a homeopath finds a remedy that matches your current, unique state of being. Layers of Healing and Evolving States Madhavi highlights that nobody is locked into a single "remedy personality" for life. We are constantly evolving, and so are our remedy needs! She shares a great case of a 50-year-old caregiver who needed Arnica for physical soreness, Bryonia for an acute allergy cough, and finally Sepia to address the deeper, constitutional layer of caregiver overwhelm and insomnia. Obstacles to Cure A homeopathic remedy cannot override a physical obstacle. Madhavi shares a funny personal story from her days as a medical student: she took Staphysagria for severe eye pain, only to realize two days later that she simply had a stray eyelash trapped against her cornea! Homeopathy works with your body, but maintaining causes—like poor nutrition, environmental toxins, or physical irritants—must be addressed for true healing to take place. Most veterinarians spend their careers learning how to diagnose disease. Dr. Maureen Ann McMichael became interested in a different question: why was the animal sick in the first place?A board-certified veterinary critical care specialist and former veterinary school professor, Dr. McMichael has worked in emergency medicine, academia, and specialty practice for decades. Along the way, she began questioning some of the foundational assumptions of modern veterinary medicine, from nutrition and chronic disease to pharmaceuticals, injections, and the growing corporatization of pet healthcare. In this episode, we explore the changing landscape of veterinary medicine, including the surprising role that corporations like Mars now play in the industry. We discuss species-appropriate diets for dogs and cats, fasting as a tool for healing, environmental toxins, glyphosate exposure, and why chronic itching, anxiety, and behavioral issues may be telling us something important about an animal's terrain. The conversation also ventures into territory rarely discussed in veterinary circles: homeopathy, the placebo effect in animals, emotional trauma in pets, and the possibility that animals process stress, grief, fear, and even purpose in ways that directly influence their health. Dr. McMichael shares stories from her own practice, including working dogs that became ill when they lost their sense of purpose, animals whose symptoms appeared linked to past trauma, and research showing remarkable placebo responses in dogs with epilepsy.Whether you're a pet owner, a homeopathy skeptic, or simply curious about what a terrain-based approach to animal health might look like, this conversation offers a perspective that challenges many of the assumptions we've come to accept about disease, healing, and the animals who share our lives.Learn more about Maureen's work with the New Biology Clinic at https://newbiologyclinic.com/.Support Terrain Theory on Patreon! Some conversations stay with you long after they end, and my discussion with Dr Heather Herington was one of them. A naturopathic medical doctor and homeopath, Heather shared how her experiences with trauma, loss, and the death of her husband shaped both her life and her approach to healing. We explored her belief that recovery involves more than physical health, combining biochemistry with storytelling, emotional expression, and the arts. Heather also reflected on her experiences with homeopathy, challenges within the healthcare system, and why helping people reframe their personal narratives can be an important part of healing. Episode Highlights: 04:01 - Dr. Heather's Journey into Homeopathy 05:15 - Transition from Practice to Creative Arts 07:14 - The Impact of Personal Loss 10:25 - The Role of Homeopathy in Healing 14:01 - Expressive Arts as a Healing Tool 18:34 - The Importance of Creativity in Healing 22:00 - Current Issues in Canada: MAID and Gender Dysphoria 25:29 - Balancing Awareness and Action 28:04 - The Therapeutic Power of Different Voices 32:21 - Dr. Heather's Books 36:43 - Challenges with Social Media and Censorship About my Guests: Dr. Heather Herington is a naturopathic medical doctor, homeopath, author, and performer with extensive expertise in trauma recovery and the treatment of complex, difficult-to-resolve health conditions. Her unique approach combines two essential elements of healing: restoring biochemical balance within the body and helping individuals explore, tell, or revise the stories and experiences that have shaped their lives. With a deep understanding of the connection between mind, body, and emotions, Dr. Herington works with individuals experiencing psychological trauma, chronic pain, autoimmune disorders, addiction, and other chronic health challenges. She believes that true healing occurs when both the physiological and emotional roots of illness are addressed. Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Herington is an accomplished writer of nonfiction, fiction, librettos, and radio plays, as well as a stage and voice-over performer. She is a passionate advocate for the expressive arts and their power to facilitate healing, personal transformation, and resilience. Through her work, she continues to inspire others to embrace creativity as a pathway toward health, recovery, and well-being. In this episode, Mary Greensmith sits down with natural medicine expert and homeopath Josie Semmes. If you or someone you love struggles with chronic fatigue, rapid heart rate, or dizziness upon standing, this is an episode you will not want to miss. Josie shares her incredible journey toward better health and explains how homeopathy offers real hope for those living with POTS. What Exactly is POTS? POTS stands for Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome. It happens when your body's signals misfire as you go from lying down to standing up. Instead of your blood vessels constricting normally, your heart rate spikes dramatically. This can cause severe dizziness, extreme fatigue, brain fog, and sometimes fainting. Josie explains that POTS is not a one-size-fits-all condition, and many individuals feel a huge sense of relief when they finally get to share their full symptom picture with a holistic practitioner. The POTS Trifecta During the episode, Josie discusses a fascinating pattern she frequently sees in her clinic known as the "Trifecta." Many people dealing with POTS also experience hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (a connective tissue condition) and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS). Because homeopathy addresses the whole person, all of these connected conditions can be supported at the exact same time. Real Progress and Success Stories Josie shares two incredible success stories: The Post-Vaccine Case: A healthcare worker developed severe POTS symptoms after her second COVID vaccine, accompanied by a swollen, numb tongue. By focusing on that unique acute symptom, Josie found a remedy that dropped the client's POTS symptom score from a 50 down to a 2 out of 120! The Teenager with the Trifecta: A teen who developed POTS after having mono was highly reactive to food dyes and chemicals. After taking a well-matched homeopathic remedy (Belladonna), her chronic fatigue lifted, she could eat normally without reacting, and she regained the energy to simply be a teenager again. Nutrition and Conventional Medicine Josie emphasizes that homeopathy can be safely used right alongside your conventional prescriptions. She also highlights the absolute importance of nutrition—sometimes, just ensuring you have enough protein can dramatically shift your fatigue levels, giving your body the vital energy it needs to bounce back. This episode is one from the archives where I'm joined by Ashley Frager — homeopathic practitioner with a deep interest in environmental health, non-toxic living and the role of maintaining causes in chronic illness. This conversation was recorded when What Heals was Raw Health Rebel Podcast, but in many ways it feels even more relevant now.We go into one of the most overlooked pieces in healing. Environment. Toxic load. Fragrance. Household products. Why some symptoms keep returning. And what happens when the body is still being exposed to something it cannot tolerate.Ashley shares her extraordinary health story, from becoming severely unwell in her early twenties to discovering constitutional homeopathy and completely changing the trajectory of her life.We talk about how she moved into homeopathic practice, why she became so interested in the everyday products people were using in their homes and how maintaining causes can quietly block progress. This is not about fear or perfection. It's about asking a deeper question: what conditions are we asking the body to heal in?If you've ever felt stuck in a case, wondered why symptoms keep returning, or been curious about the link between homeopathy and environmental load, this is a conversation worth listening to.Key takeawaysWhy maintaining causes can stop healing from holdingEnvironmental toxins, fragrance and household productsConstitutional homeopathy and Ashley's personal healing storyWhy some symptoms may be warning signs rather than the real problemThe importance of looking beyond diagnosis and into the whole personWhy “clean” or “natural” products are not always as clean as they appearHow everyday exposures may quietly add to the body's burdenWhy laundry detergent and air fresheners are often a good place to startWe also talk aboutPANS, PANDAS and the pressure to chase a diagnosisWhy homeopathy does not prescribe by diagnosis aloneBioenergetic testing and Ashley's clinical observationsThe “fragrance loophole” and why scent can be so pervasiveGreenwashing in non-toxic productsThe difference between sensitivity and the body's warning systemSymptom suppression and why rashes may matterThe frustration of treating while the obstacle remainsWhy healing sometimes requires changing the environment tooSend us Fan MailJoin Lisa's new global homeopathy community, The Atrium, here. How do we know what a homeopathic remedy actually does? That question takes Denise and Alastair into one of the things that truly sets homeopathy apart: provings. In this episode, they talk about how remedy knowledge is gathered, why Hahnemann insisted that it come through experience — not “mere intellectual exertion” — and why the paper trail behind our materia medica matters. They also look at what happens when that trail gets muddy: incomplete provings, speculative remedy pictures, intellectual shortcuts, and remedies being used or sold without clear proving information. The conversation moves from Causticum and Hahnemann's own proving symptoms to Langhammer, Scholten's periodic table work, nosodes, isopathy, and the modern temptation to simplify what was never meant to be simplistic. If you've ever wondered where remedy pictures come from — or how to think more critically about what's in the materia medica — this episode is for you.Strange, Rare & Peculiar is a weekly podcast with Denise Straiges and Alastair Gray of the Institute for the Advancement of Homeopathy and the Academy of Homeopathy Education. This season, we're focusing on truth — what it means to Aude Sapere (“dare to know”) in homeopathy today. From Hahnemann's original insights to the realities of modern practice, research, and education, Denise and Alastair bring over 50 years of experience to conversations that challenge assumptions and invite curiosity.

We're pulling the curtain back on what actually drives “morning” sickness—and how to find real relief with safe homeopathy, steady nutrition, and smart daily habits that work in the real world. From hormonal surges to blood sugar swings after a long night's fast, we map the common traps and the simple moves that flip the script. We walk through a clear, symptom-matching guide to top remedies. If you've done the therapy, set the boundaries, and still find your body holding onto stress, symptoms, or chronic issues, this episode will shift how you understand healing entirely. In this conversation, Dr. Kelly Kessler sits down with Marcus Fernandez, a global leader in homeopathic education and Principal of the Centre for Homeopathic Education, to explore what it really means to heal at the root—not just manage symptoms.Marcus shares how a personal health experience led him from a completely conventional path into natural medicine, and why true healing isn't about fixing the body—it's about activating the intelligence already within it. Together, they unpack:Why so many high-achieving women still feel unwell even after “doing the work”The difference between symptom suppression and true root-cause healingHow homeopathy works (and why it's more individualized than conventional approaches)The hidden ways we've been conditioned to give our health power awayThe 4 foundational pillars (MEDS framework) that create real, sustainable wellnessWhy your body already knows how to heal and what blocks that processThis episode is not about rejecting modern medicine. It's about becoming informed, empowered, and deeply connected to your own body again. If you've been overriding your body for years…This conversation will show you a different way back.Marcus Fernandez has been at the forefront of homeopathic education for over three decades. As Principal of The Centre for Homeopathic Education (CHE), he's trained thousands of practitioners through a curriculum that balances classical knowledge with modern application. His work is rooted in a belief that natural medicine should be practical, empowering, and accessible - not mystified or gatekept. His latest book 'Homeopathy at Home' reflects that ethos. Designed to be used, not shelved, it offers simple, step-by-step guidance for everyday ailments using natural remedies. Its success, reaching #1 in Amazon's holistic medicine category, reflects a rising demand for family-focused, self-directed wellness. Marcus also created an AI-powered virtual assistant that lets people ask home prescribing questions 24/7 - a project born from his desire to make quality natural health advice as available as online misinformation. While his formal background is in homeopathy, Marcus speaks just as comfortably about men's health, slow living, and holistic longevity. He co-hosts Beyond the Shed, a raw and reflective podcast spotlighting unfiltered conversations about men's emotional health — part of a wider mission to create space for honesty, healing, and ownership in the way we care for ourselves and each other.Whether he's teaching herbal remedies in a London classroom or exploring health span strategies on a podcast, Marcus brings curiosity, compassion, and depth to every conversation. His message is clear: the body already knows how to heal — we just have to give it the right tools. Marcus' warmth and wisdom makes natural health both useful and deeply human.Connect with Marcus:https://www.youtube.com/@Homeopathy-at-Homehttps://marcus-fernandez.com/https://www.linkedin.com/in/marcus-fernandez-98252523/https://www.instagram.com/marcusfndez/https://www.facebook.com/people/Marcus-Fernandez/100009253627766/?skhttps://www.amazon.co.uk/Homeopathy-Home-Everyday-Treatments-Complaints/dp/1837823189

Send us Fan MailThe science is clear: A one-size-fits-all approach to education or mental health does not work. But what about physical health? I am hearing more and more parents complain about the healthcare their children receive. At the same time, I am being overwhelmed with ads for potions, diets and supplements that promise to cure everything instantly. This is why I was eager to speak with Marcus Fernandez. Marcus has spent three decades advocating for preventative, homeostatic approaches to physical health. He is the Principal of The Centre for Homeopathic Education and the author of several works, including Homeopathy at Home: Everyday Treatments for Common Complaints. I asked Marcus to define what homeopathic medicine is, when and for whom it is appropriate, and how to distinguish between, what he refers to as, “evidence-based” approaches and the exploitive, false promises that crowd our inboxes and social network feeds. More information about Marcus, including links to the The Centre for Homeopathic Education and his book, is talkingaboutkids.com.

In today's episode, we're exploring one of the most misunderstood approaches to healing: homeopathy. But beyond the debates, what is homeopathy, really? How does it differ from conventional medicine? Why does it view symptoms so differently? And what happens when we begin seeing symptoms not simply as problems to suppress, but as communication from the body itself?Joining me for this conversation is holistic veterinarian and veterinary homeopath Dr. Lise Hansen. Together, we explore homeopathy as an entirely different model of healing - one rooted in the idea of supporting health, observing the individual as a whole being, and working with the body rather than against an ailment. We discuss:what homeopathy actually is (and isn't)the philosophy behind homeopathic healinghow homeopathy differs from allopathic medicinewhy two dogs with the same diagnosis may receive different remediesthe meaning of symptoms through a homeopathic lensDr. Hansen's suggestions for a basic homeopathic first aid kitwhen homeopathy may not be appropriate and when conventional veterinary care is essentialThis episode isn't about telling you what to believe. It's an invitation into a broader, deeper conversation about healing, vitality, and the ways we've been taught to think about the body - both our dogs' and our own.Whether you're deeply familiar with homeopathy, a little bit curious, or even a little bit skeptical, I hope this conversation encourages greater curiosity, discernment, and reflection around what it truly means to support health. If this episode resonated with you, share it with a fellow dog mama who might need to hear it

Continuing the conversation with Kim Kalina, we explore her view that classical homeopathy remains the grounded foundation for all other approaches, including trituration, provings, and more intuitive methods. A central theme is whether the field truly needs more remedies, or whether deeper engagement with existing remedies may be more important. She also discusses ancestral healing, sharing how family trauma can appear to influence present-day symptoms in patients. The conversation touches on the importance of staying grounded in provings and energetic work through intention, awareness, and personal practice. Paola Brown first turned to homeopathy, a form of alternative medicine based on the principle of “like cures like,” after many years of suffering from unbearable bladder pain. She had been diagnosed with interstitial cystitis, a disease with no known cure. She jokes that homeopaths are called “the doctors of last resort,” and for her, they were exactly that. When she went to see one for the first time, among the first things she asked her doctor was: “‘Do I need to believe in this? Because I don't.' And my homeopath says: ‘No, you don't have to believe in this. I just need to find the right remedy.'”During the interview, she breaks down what homeopathy actually is, where it originated, and why it's faced regulatory barriers. In the United States, homeopaths are nationally accredited through the Council of Homeopathic Certification. But the FDA has increased restrictions on homeopathic remedies over the last decade, just at a time when many Americans are starting to seek out new treatment options.“We are so sick that we are looking for alternatives, and when we find those alternatives, we're finding that those alternatives are harder and harder to get access to,” Brown says.Earlier this year, lawmakers introduced the Homeopathic Drug Product Safety, Quality, and Transparency Act. Supporters say it would protect access to homeopathy by creating clearer rules.Views expressed in this video are opinions of the host and the guest, and do not necessarily reflect the views of The Epoch Times.
