In this episode, I had an inspiring conversation with Gurdeep Pall. Gurdeep Pall is a Corporate VP and Head of Product Incubations at Microsoft today, and is known in the industry as the inventor of VPN (Virtual Private Networks) and launching Skype for Business/Teams. In this episode we dive deep into the power that AI unlocks for enterprises and just how companies can utilize it to its full potential. We also discuss the power of search engines and language, how to reinvent and transform a mammoth organization like Microsoft, and his inspiring 30+ years career at Microsoft. Gurdeep's Bio: Pall has been with Microsoft since 1990 – a long and fruitful thirty-one years in which he rose from a software design engineer to the Corporate VP for the Information Platform and Experience team. He was the inventor of VPN (Virtual Private Networks), led the Skype Acquisition and integration at Microsoft and worked on several noteworthy projects, including Windows NT 3.1, Windows XP, Skype for Business (now Teams), and many others. Pall was born in Chandigarh, India. In later adolescence, he considered following in his Brigadier father's footsteps by joining the Indian army. “There was something inside me that kept telling me that this was not what I was meant for,” he told Khushwant Singh at The Global Sikh Trail in an exclusive interview. Instead, he pursued computer engineering at Birla Institute of Technology where he graduated with his undergraduate degree. What goes up and never goes down? Spoiler alert: It's a bit of a trick question. Just like anything in life, there will be ups, but there will be downs. Whatever's going on, there always is a flow of ups and downs. And in order to really enjoy and coast on the way down on that roller coaster of life, we have to be willing to go through grind, even though it might be slower. In 2008 Jeff Lerner was a professional piano player with an injured wrist facing eviction and divorce, struggling with depression, and $495,000 in debt. In the 10 years that followed he founded three 8 figure businesses (and lost 50 pounds and got remarried), a turnaround he credits to a unique approach to "ENTREpreneurship" called "the 3 Ps". In 2019 he founded ENTRE, which enrolled over 200,000 students in 3 years and in 2022 was named to the Forbes Business Council. He currently splits his time between ENTRE, podcasting, and publishing free training online. He is also married, a father to 4 children, never misses a workout, and still plays the piano every day… Get Jeff's book HERE! We feel like every time we have moved, we've been faced with a new situation and trials, which in the end has increased our commitment to each other. There's a big importance for intimacy and how much value we put into it in marriage because we have found that as we have put a lot of focus and energy into this aspect of our lives, we have developed greater fulfillment, satisfaction, and confidence in our life. Your kids know if you're putting them first or something else first and Rosie talks about how she has seen a complete difference in how our kids were towards her when her attention wasn't focused on them vs. how they are with how focused it is on them now. As we have become more unified in our marriage, our children approach us more as a unit now and no longer try to pit us against each other because that no longer works like it used to. “There's no situation that can't be changed, if you want it to change.” Committing to marriage and children 2:21Investing in intimacy 9:46Saying yes more 17:14Expressing gratitude 22:23Outside influence coupled with inside influence 28:23“If you're not putting your kids first, and you're talking about work, they're rolling their eyes in the back of their head because that's in the way of them getting 100% to you. But if you find a way to give 100% of you to them and reach your potential around that, they'll sell out so much to you that it will become so easy to reach your potential around them because they will facilitate it.” 20:49https://www.facebook.com/theirishmummy/https://www.instagram.com/the_irish_mummy/ Pick up a copy of Journal to Joy. This episode is for any woman who wants to be certain she is living, loving and serving others to her greatest God-given capacity and potential. As I read "Maximizing Your Potential" by Myles Munroe, I was struck with the realization that we often unknowingly play smaller than what God intended. My goal is that by the end of this podcast episode you will start to question what you've previously believed you were capable of and start asking yourself… What else do I have in me? What else might God have for me to experience and give? I know you are a leader and a visionary. Your vision is SO BIG there is no doubt in your mind that it was God provided. Me too! And yet, Myles Munroe provided such a powerful example of being conditioned to play small that I had to share. When we become more aware, we get to dive deeper into our personal relationship with God and our understanding of what He wants for us. I hope you find this episode helpful. I would love to hear your thoughts on this episode. What was your biggest takeaway? You can share on social media and tag me (Rebecca Tabbert on FB and IG) and/or go to www.rebeccatabbert.com and you will find a couple of ways to connect with me there. You have likely been on some really good teams where everyone enjoyed working together and together, you accomplished some pretty exciting things. And…you had fun doing it. And on the rough days, you picked each other up and addressed the challenges together. Like me, you've probably also been on some teams where everyone seemed to be pulling in opposite directions, where no one seemed to want to be there, and where results were mediocre at best. It wasn't a good experience, so you're in no hurry to go back. You might even be on that kind of team now. Since both scenarios are common, how do we intentionally build great teams? What's the secret sauce that allows leaders to attract and retain great people, exceed performance goals, have everyone get along, and create a truly enjoyable experience for all involved? That's exactly what we're going to talk about in today's episode--but with a particular focus on leadership teams--where the stakes are often much higher. In fact, the future of an entire enterprise is often determined by how well a small group of people can work together to guide the organization. Guest Bio: My guest today is Jack McGuinness. Jack is an executive coach, author, and co-founder of Relationship Impact, a consulting firm focused on helping organizations build great leadership teams. Jack is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and served with the Army's famed 10th Mountain Division. Since leaving active duty, Jack has also been the Chief Operating Officer of a boutique management consulting firm, and the CEO of a contract managing company, as well as an adjunct professor at the John Hopkins Carey School of Business. Jack's new book, _Building Great Leadership Teams: A Practical Approach for Unleashing the Full Potential of your Leadership Team,_ is the focus of our conversation. What You'll Learn: What gets in the way of leadership teams being effective? What is your approach to helping build great leadership teams? Why are leadership teams so important? What is the leader's role in building a great leadership team? How do you measure the effectiveness? I think one of the most essential skills that any player-coach, leader, or business owner can develop is the ability to mentor people and see it as a real skill. I think that sometimes when we're having these conversations with people, and when I talk about mentoring, I'm talking about sitting down, having a one-to-one and having a conversation that doesn't mention KPIs or results, but just a real conversation. The ability to ask questions that make people think and feel challenged, but get them to think through their challenges to help them get creative, to help them think about where they are now and what's getting in their way and how to help them get unstuck, to help them think through what their actions could be and what options they've got to solve that problem and ultimately achieve their goal, then that's our role as a mentor. We often dream up our businesses based on a passion or an innate talent, only to realize afterward that we're neck-deep in back-end details for which we're not prepared. Enter Brittany Dixon, organizer extraordinaire. A productivity coach and host of The Productivity Podcast, she is on a mission to help creative business owners work smarter, not harder! On this episode of Teacher Turned Entrepreneur we are learning how Brittany found her calling and the systems she has put in place to support her own successful business – systems she's sharing with others through her group and one-to-one coaching, courses, podcast and growing community. The goal is simple: To create support systems that free us up to stay in the “zone of genius.” You'll learn from Brittany some concrete tips for identifying process breakdowns, optimizing through automation and outsourcing essential functions as you scale. If your entrepreneurial dreams are being slowed down by common stumbling blocks like digital clutter, difficulty with time management or back-end admin processes then this is the conversation for you! It's all about quieting the noise so you can focus on what fuels your best ideas and clearest thoughts. With tools like her BCO Method and ROAD to Scalability, Brittany brings actionable frameworks that will resonate with any entrepreneur tempted to say “yes” to everything only to be left scrambling to keep up with all the moving parts that result! Getting organized needn't be overwhelming, thanks to Brittany's step-by-step approach. “We've got some pretty well-oiled systems in place,” she says, “and once you've got those systems in place you don't need as many people to manage it.” Want to learn more about Brittany and the tools, templates and accountability she provides? Check out this link for her Productivity Community and much more. Click here to listen to, rate and review this or previous Teacher Turned Entrepreneur episodes. Here are key takeaways from the conversation:· Never discount side hustles – whose momentum often turns them into the main event!· Have you identified your Superpower? Everyone has one and it's the natural point of entry for would-be entrepreneurs looking to leverage their innate talents!· Stay focused on the big picture! It's easy to get overwhelmed with the day-to-day, so why not let an expert establish systems and expedite your basic back-end processes?· It's okay to say no. When it comes to our businesses, every opportunity can be exciting but additional, time-consuming back-end management has to be factored in.· Calendar everything! That means family/self-care priorities as well as business imperatives and daily routines that keep the whole life-work enterprise afloat.· Digital Clutter doesn't develop into a problem overnight – nor can it be magically erased! It takes time and a strategy.· Less is More: Having a structure for online folders is important, but keep it simple and manageable. An over-engineered system can defeat the purpose and prevent filing.· Hiring contractors is easier than ever! So consider keeping it simple by outsourcing rather than scaling full-time staff.· Before considering automation, be sure that your processes are operating smoothly. When you automate broken pieces, you're creating broken systems. Here's a quick look into the episode:· As so often is the case, Brittany got active as an entrepreneur after she was let go from her 9-to-5 – “best thing that ever happened.” She was working in the catering and event space with young twin girls when she decided to add a side hustle as a home organizer that in the course of a year turned into her full-time gig.· After reading "Ordinary Superpowers: Unleash the Full Potential of Your Most Natural Talents," Brittany realized that her “little” side hustle had tremendous potential!· From its inception in 2017, Brittany's business has grown exponentially based on her ever deeper understanding of the “back end stuff” that was keeping online businesses, consultants, coaches and others from growing their enterprises.· The kinds of things Brittany helps clients figure out:o Time management.o Productivity.o Email and digital file organization.o Client onboarding.o Assembling and running a team.· Brittany works with her clients via:o Her Productivity Podcast.o Her Productivity Pod community.o Group coaching through her Hustle to Flow program, including materials and group calls.o One-to-one coaching/consulting that pinpoints and overhauls business pain points.· The things that tend to be the biggest client stumbling blocks:o Time management is a consistent baseline issue because of all the moving parts.o Client processes: Ensuring smooth onboarding, offboarding and overall management of relationships. o Digital Clutter: Cutting through the avalanche of data coming in and going out.· Brittany's Top Tips for Mapping Effective Time Management Systems:o Lifestyle By Design: What are your goals for family time? Figure out commitments to kids, spouse, self-care, then put then on the calendar!o Business By Design: You can't say yes to everything. Beyond the things you want to do are all the ancillary functions that also require time and attention – things like marketing, admin, back-end email management require scheduling.o Routines By Design: Establishing personal best practices sets you up for flow and rhythm in all realms. So calendar your priorities, then stick to them!· For Digital Clutter, which is a scourge familiar to all entrepreneurs, Brittany deploys her BCO Framework to manage files, time blocking, strategy and other functions:o Business Development: How you're growing the business.o Client Services: Everything you're providing your customer base.o Operations: All the admin that supports the whole enterprise.· Strategies for cleaning up BCO backlogs and data:o Set up a folder structure and start dragging files where they need to be.o Sort different functions into categories that make the big picture clearer.o Beware: Don't overwhelm yourself with too many sub-file folders!· How Brittany runs her own business:o She has only contractors; not FTEs and no plans to onboard any.o An online business manager keeps Brittany on track with strategy and processes.o A podcast manager takes care of her production and support.o A bookkeeper takes care of accounting.o A booker promotes Brittany's appearances as a podcast guest.· About Brittany's ROAD to Scalability:o Recognize: Evaluate what's working and what isn't.o Optimize: Ensure that systems offer ROI, are standardized and streamlined.o Automation: Are the tasks you do on a routine basis integrated into systems?o Documentation: Keep roadmaps for back-end processes that anyone who joins the team can easily follow or replicate.· Brittany's Recommended Reading:"Ordinary Superpowers: Unleash the Full Potential of Your Most Natural Talents," by Mark Henson.o "The 5 Second Rule: Transform Your Life, Work, and Confidence with Everyday Courage," by Mel Robbins. Sometimes this world weighs so heavily it can bend you over double. What can we learn from Jesus' setting free of the bent-over woman (and the religious leader's annoyed response!) about what it means to get free? This is the question Nichola Torbett takes on in this week's episode. (Also, if you've ever wondered what the heck "binding and loosing" is, there might be a hint here.)
Sometimes genius is slow coming to the surface. Think your youngster is a slow learner? It's possible he's just not interested in the trivial. The fact is that many of our most famous people showed no indications of being outstanding when they were young. To the contrary, many of them, like Thomas Edison, were actually considered slightly slower than their contemporaries. Two of the world's best loved humorists, Will Rogers and Mark Twain, showed little interest either in school or in humor in their early years. As a child, Albert Einstein was slow in learning to talk; then as a boy he was considered backward. Ignace Paderewski, the great Polish pianist, was in his late teen years before he showed any interest in learning to play the piano.

It's no secret that Amazon's marketplace is growing incredibly quickly. With so many new brands entering the fray, how can sellers make their listings stand out in such a saturated market? For Mina Elias, a 7-figure Amazon seller, the answer lay in making efficient use of Amazon's advertising platforms. As his expertise in this area grew, so did requests from fellow sellers asking Mina to optimize their advertising campaigns. This inspired Mina to create Trivium Group, an Amazon advertising agency that specializes in PPC and DSP advertising campaigns, helping sellers get their products in front of shoppers, earn more money, and grow their businesses. In this episode, Mina joins us to discuss Amazon DSP campaigns, an often overlooked advertising option. He guides us through the differences between DSP and PPC campaigns, the best time for businesses to start making use of DSP, and the risks and rewards of using this promotional tool. We also dive into the secrets behind Mina's entrepreneurial success, including how he grew his business from 3 employees to 30 in one year and the systems he uses to help him manage his team. According to Mina, “The number one hack I've figured out as a business owner is that using consultants is a great time-saving shortcut that can help you grow your business incredibly fast. For example, I can learn how to do Google Ads in three months, but with just six one-hour consultations with a Google Ads consultant, I can be just as good.” If you want the inside scoop on how to create a winning Amazon DSP strategy, then this is an episode you don't want to miss out on! Sallie Wagner is an intentional life coach, successful speaker, author, attorney, real estate broker, and Life Alchemist. Sallie can coach you into action for rapid concrete results. You're not going to get different results doing the same things on repeat. Sallie created a program where she utilizes EFT and NLP to help her clients overcome fears, let go of limiting beliefs, and chase their dreams to live the life they want and deserve. In this episode of the One Big Tip podcast, you will learn Sallie's framework to move past your trauma and become the person you were destined to be. Sally Wagner is an intentional life coach who helps her clients change their mindset and utilize their skill set so they can take action. Or, as Sally likes to put it, she encourages her clients to ‘get off your asset.' In her coaching program, Sally uses Emotional Freedom Techniques and neuro-linguistic programming to finally help people get out of their own way to chase their dreams. Sally's road to success took many turns until she tapped into her skillset and had a clear vision of where she wanted to see her life. After a long career in law and real estate, Sallie decided to venture into coaching, where she could make the most significant impact. Sallie created a three-part framework that she shares with her clients who work with her to move past trauma or self-destructive behaviors that are holding them back from success. Her framework consists of creating the proper mindset, knowing your skill set, and taking action even if it's messy. The first part of the framework focuses on mindset. This term has become part of our modern language to mean many different things. In this framework, mindset is more than just having positive thoughts. Sallie wants her clients to be their authentic selves and portray that to the world. When you have the mindset of knowing who you are and what you stand for, people gravitate toward you. The second part of the framework is the skillset. A large part of my skill set is learning how to communicate effectively with others to get your point or message across while still aligning with your authentic self. Most people allow emotion to dictate their decisions. When you work on having the right mindset, you take emotion out of the equation and substitute it for knowledge. If you base decisions on knowledge, you are more likely to make the right decisions and think critically. The last leg of Sallie's framework is taking action. Too many of us know what we need to do but don't. People will never reach their goals without action, but action alone is not enough. You have to take action that will move you in the right direction to get you the desired results. The magic happens when the three parts of the framework come together seamlessly. Only when you have the right mindset, hone your skillset, and take action can you start to see results. The key to keeping the results flowing is to create systems and processes. These two things make a workflow that you can follow to successfully achieve the desired results repeatedly. It works like a puzzle; all you need to do is pop the pieces into the equation. The next step to ensure success is finding an accountability partner. Many of us know what we need to do, but we constantly self-sabotage and can't get out of our own way. Having someone keep us accountable helps us stay on track. The more we stay on track, the more positive results we see. This creates a positive cycle that you want to engage in. Sallie has found a 76% success rate for her clients when all the pieces of her framework come together. If a client is having difficulty achieving the proper mindset, that's when Sallie employs EFT therapy and neurolinguistic programming. These two therapies rewire the brain to help it heal and move past trauma. With this unique approach, Sallie helps peopleSupport the show
