Niko Moon has been a songwriter for more than a decade. He's written eight #1 songs, he's written songs for Morgan Wallen, Zac Brown Band and many more. But in 2019 he decided to pursue his own solo career. He released Good Time that went number #1 on the country charts and since then he's never looked back. He came on the Doc G Show back in 2023 and he was nice enough to stop by the show again this week! Doc and Niko talked about his daughter growing up, keeping the workouts going when touring, starting Happy Himalayan, becoming an independent artist, releasing These Are The Days, and releasing Money Can't Buy! Meanwhile on the rest of the show, Doc and Mike bask are searching for a Chili's endorsement, and looking to see if they can get Genesis back together for a reunion concert. Make sure to listen! Jamaican-born, North Carolina-based singer and songwriter Sanya N’Kanta has written songs about race and immigration, but his new EP is about the simple pleasures of family and home. N’Kanta started off in music producing hip hop, but he’s adept at all kinds of styles, with an impressive vocal range. He is a self-taught musician and multi-instrumentalist, and a self-avowed “studio rat”, who has already completed another album, due early summer 2021. Sanya N’Kanta moved to North Carolina a few years ago from Chicago, after a long bout with illness. Later, he’d discovered that there had been a carbon monoxide leak that had been slowly making him sick, in the basement studio of his place in Chicago. On his recent EP, These Are The Days, he concentrates on the joy of family and focuses on feeling good, clearly full of gratitude for life, place, family, and home. Sanya N’Kanta gets the whole band together to play some of these songs, rooted in classic rock sounds, remotely, from North Carolina. - Caryn Havlik Set list: “Waste My Time”, “North Carolina”, “Hold On” Watch “Waste My Time”: Watch "North Carolina": Watch "Hold On":
Together with American Songwriter, we had the pleasure of interviewing LZ7 over Zoom video! From the start, LZ7 has kept a relevance and honesty about their music, which comes from a heart that sees the best in young people. The band draw on experiences from their own lives which give the listener a deeper perspective of where they come from, what they are all about and where they are heading with their music. As always, Lindz is at the front of LZ7. The band includes many faces so you might see a different set of our family at each show. LZ7 is on a quest to perpetuate music that bypasses the intellect and speaks straight to the soul. With their infectious melodies, huge drops and back-to-back anthems, LZ7 knows how to rock a crowd. And rock the crowd is just what they did are their 2019 album ‘These Are The Days’, featuring favorites like “G.O.A.T”, "Breakthrough, in addition to "Legends".At the end of 2020 LZ7 premiered the music video for new single “Won’t Run Out” with EDM.com, this followed a slew of successful singles LZ7 has released since the COVID-19 pandemic started back in March, which started out with the fan filmed self-isolation video for “Peace & Love” that premiered with Hollywood Life. This episode of Across The Margin: The Podcast presents an interview with Sanya N'Kanta, the Jamaican born and Charlotte-based musician who has made a name for himself with his genre-blurring style, bringing together rock, reggae, hip-hop, house music, and electro-pop. Sanya’s latest release, an EP entitled These Are The Days, is an ode to his lifelong love rock n 'roll. Common themes throughout These Are The Days are growth, friendship, morality, the importance of time with family, and healing. While the songs on Sanya's rousing new EP are largely more optimistic and personal than his previous work, his recent singles “I.C.E. at the Door” and “The Lesser of Two Evils,” act as hard-hitting commentaries on the dark political realities of 2020 and America's fraught history. Sanya is a multi-faceted musician and storyteller, and these two songs are a great example of his commitment to incorporating socially conscious themes into his music. In this episode Sanya expounds upon immigrating to the United States and his early experiences in the country, his youthful infatuation with American rock n’ roll music, a recent brush with carbon monoxide poisoning that put his life at risk and changed the way he viewed life and creating art, the intricacies behind the crafting of These Are The Days, and much, much more. Sometimes God wants us to know that a "sweatpants" kinda life is okay. But we continue to force ourselves into the "skinny jeans." Matthew 11:28 -- "Come to me all you who are weary and heavy burdened (skinny jeans) and I will give you rest (sweatpants). You'll just have to take a listen to understand and we promise you'll want to listen to our chat with Jodi (she's 100% authentic)! Hailing from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Jodi King is one half of the husband and wife duo Love & The Outcome. After throwing caution to the wind and selling their condo along with everything in it, touring Canada selling CD's out of the trunk of their Jetta, the couple landed a record deal with Word Entertainment / Warner Music Group in 2012. Their self-titled debut album, Love & The Outcome, released the following year to critical acclaim and the duo has since become one of the most compelling emergent voices in the Contemporary Christian music space. Their highly-anticipated sophomore album, These Are The Days, released the same week their first baby boy Milo was born. The ‘band' was complete eighteen months later when Ziggy entered the world! Instead of packing it in and getting ‘real jobs', Jodi and Chris bought a bigger vehicle and took the family on the road. In Jodi's words: “When you're a wife, mom, artist and living your life in public, perfection is impossible… walking with purpose is not. This shift in perspective from ‘I've got this' to ‘God, I know that you've got this' is what sets this work apart”. To date, Love & The Outcome have amassed a loyal, engaged audience, earning over one hundred million streams globally, tens of millions of impressions, achieved multiple Top #5 songs on the Billboard chart and shared stages with their peers including for King & Country, TobyMac, Lecrae and Switchfoot. With 20 GMA Canada Covenant Awards and nominations, Juno Award and KLOVE Fan Award nominations to their name, Jodi and Chris continue to share their music worldwide. "Sanya N'Kanta is a Jamaican-born musician currently based in Charlotte, NC who writes, performas, and produces songs with a wide range of musical influences and styles. Ahead of the release of his new EP, These Are The Days, he recorded a stunning, stripped-down performance of two songs from that release along with another brand new track, and we had a great conversation about music and life. 00:00 - BTR Live Studio intro 01:12 - "North Carolina" - Sanya N'Kanta 05:17 - Sanya N'Kanta interview 43:11 - "The Hard Lesson" - Sanya N'Kanta 46:32 - "The Tide" - Sanya N 'Kanta 50:42 - outro 51:53 - end. In May 1991, Queen shot their iconic video for These Are The Days of Our Lives. Six months later, lead frontman Freddie Mercury was dead from AIDS. In this episode we look at one of the worst disease outbreaks in modern history, and how Freddie Mercury - one of the century's the most charismatic & resilient creatives - worked through it. If you happen to enjoy contemporary praise music, you more than likely have heard These Are The Days of Elijah. (It happens to be one of my favorites. It is very singable and I can really get into it.) But how many of the performers and the singers know what that was all about? What exactly are The Days of Elijah and why are we singing about them? Elijah, for those who don’t know, was the archetype of all prophets. He wasn’t the first, he wasn’t the only, but he was major. The song begins, These are the days of Elijah, declaring the word of the Lord and these are the days of your servant Moses, righteousness being restored, and though these are days of great trial of famine and darkness and sword. Still, we are the voice in the desert, crying, prepare ye the way of the Lord. Now what does all this mean? Why Elijah? Why Moses? It is clear to me that the person who composed this song was driving at something important, but what exactly? Well, the place to start is naturally, The days of Elijah. He may be not only the archetype of all prophets, but also the most blunt.

In this episode I catch up with the wonderful Jann Arden in the midst of the worldwide Corona Virus epidemic. Last week she was supposed to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame at the Juno Awards but the ceremony was cancelled amid fears around the outbreak. Last week she streamed a mini-concert from her living room as part of a movement by artists to entertain those in isolation and to urge people to stay at home. Jann Arden is a huge recording artist in Canada and had international success in 1994 with her "Living Under June" album. She has just released her 14th album "These Are The Days" and has released more than 40 singles. She has been nominated for 19 Juno awards and won 8 of them. She has contributed to movie soundtracks and is a regular on Canadian television. Leonard Cohen visited her in the studio when she was recording one of his songs and wrote to her afterwards to tell her how her version "stays with him". Aside from music Jann has written four books and regularly appeared in challenges with TV Host Rick Mercer which caused her to become a viral sensation to a new generation of fans. Her live shows are as popular for her story-telling as for her music. She has even hosted a gala at the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal. Her sit-com "Jann" was a smash hit in Canada in 2019 and the new season drops soon. Hey Firecrackers! I spoke with Canadian Queen, singer-songwriter, author, podcaster, actor, Jann Arden LIVE! at the YYC Comedy festival in Calgary a few months ago in May, and it was such an amazing, in-depth conversation to be able to share with an audience (and her dog Midi!). And now we finally get to share it with you! We talk about personal expectations, fears about acting, fighting for Calgary, moms, dads, dogs, Jann's production, finally "becoming a person" and oh my gosh so much more! We talk persistence, patience, and maintaining relationships over years, a career, your whole life. This past year, Jann has put out a new album (These Are The Days), a new book called Feeding My Mother, continued her fantastic podcast with Arlene Dickinson, The Business of Life, AND she’s heading into the second season of the amazingly popular CTV show: JANN. In 1998 my friend Niamh Kavanagh was making an album and she recorded some cover versions of a Canadian singer songwriter Jann Arden. I then listened to Jann's orignal versions and I have been hooked ever since. She has even hosted a gala at the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal and is in pre-production on a sitcom. Jann's mother is a huge fixture in her life. Her parents lived 60 meters from her on her land. A few years ago Jann's father suffered a stroke resulting in severe memory loss around the same time her mother began showing signs of Alzheimers which was diagnosed two days after her father died. I spoke to Jann on a surprisingly snowy morning in Calgary, just 6 weeks after she had finally agreed to put her mother in a Memory Care Centre. She was dealing with the emotion of this and her mother's distraught dog. After we spoke her day became even more strange; the first chapters of James Comey's autobiography had been released and he had used a quote from her on the first page of chapter one. If you were one of the people asking "Who is Jann Arden?". Well this is the podcast that will tell you everything you need to know.
