Every tech advancement in ministry comes with pros and cons, champions and nay-sayers, benefits and costs. For church leaders, it's not always easy to figure out what their congregants really need, how to play to their ministry's strengths, and what strong discipleship actually looks like in a tech-driven world.Recent Barna State of the Church research, in partnership with Gloo, uncovered five tech trends that show why adopting a blend of digital innovation and in-person ministry matters more than ever for leaders. Brad Hill, Chief Solutions Officer at Gloo believes these shifts aren't just about digital tools and strategies. They show a need for pastors to build trust, educate their congregants, and create meaningful digital experiences that truly connect people to God and each other. Brad joins Dale on today's 95Podcast to share practical ways that Gloo supports churches of all sizes with their efforts to use technology to reach new people.Show Notes: https://www.95network.org/technology-and-the-church-w-brad-hill-episode-278/Support the show

In this episode, Dr. Bryan Gill contemplates what it means to “consider the lilies” in his latest essay. From fly fishing the Cahaba River and standing in awe of how the beautiful Cahaba Lilies thrive through adversity to reminiscing on days of his childhood walking through flower gardens with his Grandaddy, lilies are a constant theme in this essay. What does it mean to “consider the lilies?” Bryan explores parenting, worry, fear, and enjoying life despite the craziness happening around us all when we stop to consider the lilies. We hope you will enjoy this essay and, whether it's visiting the Cahaba River to gaze upon the Cahaba Lilies or strolling through your own backyard, take a moment to consider the lilies for yourself. “‘Consider the Lilies' is the only Commandment I ever obeyed.” –Emily Dickinson, The Letters of Emily Dickenson “We have overprotected children in the real world and under-protected them in the virtual world.” - Jonathan Haidt "If you're going to make your kids tough, and they better be if they are going to survive in the world, you can't interfere when they are doing dangerous things carefully.”- Jordan Peterson Use Promo Code TSO For 20% off of your next purchase from www.redbeardsoutfitter.com or in-store We would love to hear from you; if you have any questions, comments, poems, and or recommendations for us, email us at thestoriedoutdoors@gmail.com Music written and recorded by Brad Hill.

J. Wayne Fears grew up in the Cumberland Mountains roaming around on a mountain named Tater Knob. His dad was a trapper and an expert woodsman, and his mom was a country schoolteacher. From his dad, he learned to live in the wilds, and from his mom, he obtained a love of the written word. When other kids were playing team sports, J. Wayne was spending days, often alone, trapping, hunting, and fishing. J Wayne served in the U.S. Army. After his time in the Army, he graduated from Auburn University and went to work as a wildlife specialist with the University of Georgia to develop wildlife resources in a rural test county in South Georgia. The resulting program was published as a feature article in the March 1966 issue of Outdoor Life magazine. This article gave J. Wayne and his work national attention and introduced him to the world of outdoor writing. Wayne is a prolific writer, having written thousands of articles in nearly every major outdoor publication and 40 books. He is also an explorer, photographer, survivalist, hunter, and storyteller. If we listed all he has accomplished, it would be an entire podcast. In this episode, we delve into the art of storytelling and survival skills and hear gripping tales of adventure, including one harrowing experience in the wilds of Canada where our guest, J. Wayne Fears, faced the ultimate test of survival. Joining us is Craig Haney, a long-time best friend of J Wayne, adding his unique perspective to our conversation. In this episode, we had the opportunity to sit on the tranquil front porch of Robin Taylor. Robin is a staple in the outdoor community of Alabama and creates some of the most striking photography and paintings. Birds were chirping and woodpeckers were rattling as we rocked in our rocking chairs overlooking a quiet pond in front of Robin's house. It was a fantastic conversation and we covered a variety of topics. We discussed everything from milky way photography to landscape and wildlife painting, exotic travel, his award-winning fishing lure collection, and synchronized fireflies. Robin's love for the outdoors and his quiet faith is so evident in how he treats people as well as how he cares for God's creation. In this episode, Brad Hill reads an essay written by previous guest, friend of the show, and staple member of the Alabama flyfishing community, Andre Davis. This essay is a look into the passion that so many of us share in this world of flyfishing in the state of Alabama and beyond. We hope you will enjoy this essay, but more than that, we hope it encourages you to find your own adventures and write your own stories in the Storied Outdoors.
In this episode we talk to Andre Davis. Andre is an avid outdoorsman who finds peace and restoration in the demonstrative power of God's nature. He is a proud big brother, uncle, son and husband. Andre' has spent a lifetime outdoors hunting, fishing, hiking, building, playing music and teaching. Married to a sixth grade teacher, his household is full of the desire to teach and lead our youth well, with the joyful expectation of watching them become better than ourselves. Andre' has a non-profit called Skillz and Gills where kids are taught the basics of fly fishing, how to set up a rig, fly casting, all about waterways, ecosystems, conservation, and fish handling. He's a staple in the Alabama fly fishing community, a mentor of the Mayfly Project, an avid fly tier, and friend of the show. Many of you may be surprised to know that Andre is also an excellent writer and storyteller. We've had the privilege of reading several of his personal essays and we talk about those on the show. We had Andre on once before at the international fly fishing film festival at Cahaba Brewery last year, but we wanted to extend our conversation with him this year. We know you will enjoy hearing from our friend, Andre Davis. In this week's episode, we sit down with Captain Robin Simms, who just received her certification to operate 150 foot vessels. Robin is a longtime friend of the show and vital member of the Alabama flyfishing community. We previously had Robin on the show in a mini episode at the international fly fishing film festival at Cahaba brewery last year. We go into more depth with Robin in this episode and discuss Alabama women on the fly, her guide services, and a host of other topics centered around a life lived on the water… Including a harrowing story from her time in Alaska involving a very little boat on very big waves. We absolutely love what Robin brings to this episode, as well as what she brings to the outdoor community with her innovative approach to getting new people on the water. We hope you enjoy! People are searching for help, hope, and encouragement now more than ever. With the influx of mental health issues riddling our country today, people are struggling to find solutions to their problems. And think about it, where do most people go when they have questions and seek a quick answer in today's culture and society? You guessed it - ‘Dr. Google.' However, one thing we know is that those answers may not always be accurate or the most faith focused, which leads to so many people within the church forming negative views of things such as technology and artificial intelligence. But that sparks the question and frames our conversation today: Can technology and artificial intelligence be used in a way that helps strengthen and develop the church rather than tearing it apart? And what is the Church doing to address the challenges facing today's generations? Thankfully, our guest today, Brad Hill, is a man who has been deeply involved in solving technology challenges for the church for over 20 years. Brad serves on the executive team at Gloo, which is known for being the trusted platform that releases the collective might for the church, and he is responsible for marketing, sales, success, and all facets of growing and serving Gloo's network of churches, networks, and faith partners. Prior to Gloo, our guest co-founded Ministry Brands, which is the world's largest church/ministry technology company. As President, he completed over 40+ roll-up acquisitions and led the company to win Private Equity deal of the year for 2017. In addition to his experience starting, building, and coaching companies for Kingdom and business impact, Brad has also served in lay leadership at several churches across multiple denominations, and he currently lives in the Denver, CO area with his wife and two kids. Our prayer throughout today's podcast is two-fold: (1) if you are a person who is exploring online for help, you are not alone. There are people doing everything in their power to provide you with best resources possible to navigate in these challenging, often overwhelming times. (2) To affirm those who are skeptical of technology and A.I. to understand that although many use those things to do a world of bad, there are some people today using tech to do a world of good! Pray that God would continue to lead the way and guide their skill sets to do His work so that His will would be done.Find out more about Gloo: https://www.gloo.us/ Mental Health Coach Training Program: https://lightuniversity.com/mental-health-coaching/
In this episode, we talk to David Parham about all of the amazing places in Alabama to find adventure. David grew up in Birmingham, attended college in Tuscaloosa, and currently lives in Huntsville working as an engineer. He grew up climbing and was driven outdoors by finding anywhere he could go climb. Climbing quickly turned him into a camper and as he would go climbing for a weekend and would need a place to sleep. Through camping and climbing he then turned into a waterfall hunter. Waterfalls served as a spectacular place to cool down while camping and climbing during summer. Waterfall hunting led to hiking and thus the process of finding waterfalls. When he's not at home, at work, or at Jiu Jitsu, he loves exploring the outdoors with his 2 daughters and wife. They love spending time exploring North Alabama and seeing all the different views, caves, and waterfalls that it has to offer. David is an advocate for wild places and backyard adventures in the state of Alabama. We discuss being intentional about getting our children in the outdoors at an early age. As well as how sometimes the most beautiful places are the most unexpected places. Be sure to tune in to this episode with David, a.k.a. The Huntsville Adventurer.
